Viewsonic to release the first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet - ViewPad 7x Source. The race is on for the world’s first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet - 7-inch Asus Eee Pad MeMO or the Viewsonic ViewPad 7x. Looks like Viewsonic is getting ahead, announcing that they’d be the first to release a Honeycomb tablet in the smaller, 7-inch form factor, with the Viewsonic ViewPad 7x. Boasting of a 1024x600 resolutions screen, the Honeycomb tablet will once again be Tegra 2 powered, and weigh just 380 grams. Viewsonic has also managed to squeeze in HDMI and 3G (HSPA+) connectivity. The all important question would be pricing, has to be competitive to be successful especially as it is competing with the HTC Flyer, Samsung Galaxy Tab (7") and the Blackberry Playbook all have 1024x600 resolution.
  2. ^ Summary of the problems plaguing RCOM. What baffles me is that they must be knowing these but still not working to correct. It is the same with all ADA companies.

Tegra 3 ! Quad-core CPU ! 12-core GPU! Read on. Source. Nvidia’s Kal-El line of mobile processors, or Tegra 3, is expected to launch later this year, promising a quad-core CPU and 12-core GPU for tablets and mobile phones. With such massive processing power on its side, it is not surprise that Nvidia expects the Tegra 3 processor to outperform Tegra 2 by 5 times! To be precise, they expect it do outperform Intel’s not-so-ancient Core2Duo desktop processor. While we expect a lot more details from Nvidia at Computex, for now, the green giant has released a performance demonstration video showing the Kal-El Tegra 3 processor handling real-time dynamic lighting effects, something that no other chipset in the market, even the iPad 2’s graphics, can offer. The demo shows you what the Tegra 3 can manage with a quad-core CPU and 12-core GPU, and, a portion of it even shows you how it would render with just the two cores and GPU of the Tegra 2 – a stark difference that will make you reconsider purchasing a Tegra 2 bearing Android Honeycomb tablet, or any other tablet for that matter before Tegra 3 releases. Of course, for now, no real graphically-intensive games are even available for the Android platform – Nvidia is quick to point out that many are on their way. http://www.youtube.com/embed/eBvaDtshLY8
  4. That is horrible, worryingly this is due to ARPU drop rather than spectrum cost. If that cost is included then it will be worse.
  5. Source. Google has now launched a flight schedule search feature, though it insists it did not use ITA (Google was recently allowed to buy the company) technology. The news was posted on the official Google blog, and explained the company’s rationale behind the move: “finding flights is one of the most popular online activities, so to make it a little easier to find results for your travel-related searches, you can now see a quick summary of flight information right on the results page. Now, all users will require is a destination in mind, and when they enter a simple query 'flights from [source] to [destination],' they will get a some non-stop flight schedules, or a summary of daily flight details. A full time table is available as well, in a link entitled “Schedule of non-stop flights.” Looks like hopping flights aren’t supported yet. The feature will also allow users to see all the destinations possible from a particular airport, by searching 'flights from [source].' For now, though the service has been launched globally, it is available in ten languages – English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Turkish, and Catalan. Apropos ITA, Google will admittedly be using their technology in the future, providing even richer flight options and searches, not in the least, including price searches. The current move is apparently just “a small step towards making richer travel information easier to find,” and Google hopes to “make finding flights online feel so easy, it’ll feel like... well, a vacation!” Flights from source to destination All flights from source

ViewSonic's new ViewPad 10Pro to dual-boot Android and Windows Source. Viewsonic is launching a refresh to its ViewPad 10, called the ViewPad 10Pro. Boasting of the ability to dual-boot Windows 7 Pro and Android, the tablet actually will use Bluestacks virtualization to run Android apps on Windows 7 - while this maybe better than dual-booting in a way, it is not dual-booting, and can suffer from lowered performance, battery life issues, etc.,. We'll have to wait and see how Viewsonic ended up implementing it. The device will apparently be the first of the many tablets supposed to be powered by Intel's new Oak Trail mobile processors (in this case, the Z670 1.5GHz) this year. It will sport Windows 7 Pro, and Android 2.2 virtualized, but hopefully, Honeycomb will be offered instead, though we wonder if Google will be especially appreciative. Other features include a 3G radio, and 32GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded a great deal more with microSD card, or USB drives. It sports a 3500mAh battery, which is promised to deliver up to 4.5 hours of 1080p video playback via HDMI. We expect Viewsonic to make a more detailed presentation at the Computex 2011 trade show, so stay tuned for more details. This could turn out to be a smart product which can be a jack of all trades. There is a risk however, of being master of none.

Google Wallet announced, Sprint's Nexus 4G will be the first phone to take advantage of it Source. Google announced its mobile payment service Google Wallet, which will go live at various retailers in New York and San Francisco over the summer, then more cities will follow. The first NFC-equipped device to take advantage of it will be Sprint's Nexus S 4G, with more to come, or you can use a special NFC sticker on the back of your phone, similar to the Bling Tag. Google will subsidize merchants to upgrade their POS equipment for taking NFC payments. For the mobile payment backend Google Wallet is partnering with MasterCard's PayPass system for payment processing, which works for some of its cards with embedded chip to wave it in front of a terminal and pay. Citigroup is providing the banking services behind the project, and as far as retailers go, Google Wallet will be available at such stalwarts as Macy's, American Eagle, Subway, and The Container Store, among others. Google is not charging anything extra than the usual merchant fees MasterCard is charging for paying with a credit/debit card, but it hopes to make some cash out of it by pairing mobile payments with the so-called Google Offers, coupons and loyalty program. You can be at Macy's, for example, tap your phone at the Google Offers mark, and get today's coupon or special offers, then use them at checkout. As far as security is concerned, Google clarifies that Google Wallet acts as a virtual credit card, you can call and deactivate it, if your phone is lost or stolen. Still, you have to enter a PIN password for the payment to take place, as if you are paying with a debit card entering your PIN code, plus if your phone goes missing there won't be anything to call MasterCard with anyway. 18. Android OS & Apps - Security Threats & Vulnerability

No one is blocking rooting. Google has patched an exploit in Gingerbread, which was used for one click root as well as make the device vulnerable to malware so now one click roots will not work, but it is good that this patch has been done. Please read this for clarity. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14047939&postcount=72 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14049761&postcount=75 There will be no one ckick root for the Gingerbread OTA unless new exploit is found, but rooting can be done through odin/heimdall of a rooted kernel and/or cwm. So when the OTA comes, do not update, wait for a Gingerbread stock rooted ROM.

Toshiba Thrive spotted - a 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet due in Q3 The 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet called the Toshiba Thrive was spotted on pre-order for short while before being hastily pulled from an online-retailer’s listings.
