  7. With the Protect service now available, Blackberry users can finally feel at par with iOS and Android users. Blackberry Protect works well, and is a must have app on any Blackberry smartphone. However, we wouldn’t recommend you give up the desktop backup software altogether. Pros Simple backup and restore service Ring a misplaced phone feature Cons Locate phone via GPS doesn’t work very well While the Apple iPhone users had the MobileMe service and Android users could back up contacts and other data to their Google account, Blackberry smartphones were conspicuously missing out on such a service. For a smartphone family that is targeted at the corporate users, the fact that this feature was not available was a bit of a surprise. However, the wrongs have been corrected. The Blackberry Protect service, after a long period of testing, has finally been rolled out to the users. Let us see how good it actually is, since there is a lot resting on this app, as far as data backup and restore features are concerned. We tested this app on the Blackberry Bold 9780. How to get it? Well, there are two ways. Either download from the Blackberry App World, or wait for the Blackberry Protect logo to show up on your home screen, taking you automatically to the download page. The download size is just above 2 MB, which isn’t much if you use the Wi-Fi or 3G to download, but will take a while on a GPRS/EDGE network. Once downloaded, the Protect logo, which aptly looks like a shield, will be placed either on the menu list, or in the applications folder. You can place it anywhere you want to, anyway. Interface Typical Blackberry’s look and feel here, with the dark blue and black interface. On the first screen are the basic details the account you have linked this to (essentially, your Blackberry account), the date of the last backup was done on, the next backup scheduled date (depending on the duration you select), whether to back up only using a Wi-Fi network and whether to allow backup while on roaming. Below this information are three icons, which are backup, restore and status messages regarding the service. Performance The Blackberry Protect service can backup contacts, calendars, tasks, memos, browser bookmarks and text messages. However, these can be configured according to your requirement, as to whether you need to backup any of these or not. Once everything is configured, click on backup, and the service will create a backup of everything you have selected, on to the server. The app will how the progress of the backup, and usually takes about 2 minutes to 10 minutes, depending on the amount of data which is being sent to the server (on the GPRS/EDGE network). Once this is done, you can head off to the URL http://www.blackberry.com/protect and access the account there. Weirdly, you will not see a list of your contacts there, or access your messages and documents. Backup data from an Android phone to the Google account, and you can see contacts, messages and documents whenever accessed. What the web service also offers is features like “ring misplaced phone”, detect lost phone and even send SMS to Blackberry device. The ring feature, when activated there, will turn your Blackberry’s profile to Loud, and emit a loud ring till you cancel the command from the phone. This is useful, if you have misplaced a phone under a tower of files, or in a bag full of stuff! The locate feature utilizes GPS to track a lost phone. However, a couple of issues here: one, the GPS feature on the phone has to remain switched on and two, it doesn’t work if the lost phone is currently inside a building. The third feature of sending a display message to the Blackberry works well, but cannot really see the point of that service, unless you want to send messages to either yourself, or threaten someone who has stolen your phone! Our Take Finally, Blackberry phones get an integrated backup and restore service. Much awaited, much tested, and thankfully, works very well. However, while an online backup and restore service is welcome, it should just act as a second layer of data backup. We suggest you use the desktop software regularly to backup contacts etc. just to be on the safe side. Price: Free Specifications Online backup service, restore from backup, auto-backup, access via app and web browser, ring lost phone feature, detect stolen phone via GPS, send display message to BB device, works with all Blackberry smartphones Ratings Features: 6.5 Performance: 7.25 Build: 7.5 Value: 8 Overall: 7.50 Contact: Research In Motion Website: http://www.blackberry.com/protect Email: N.A. 8. Handset Launches - News Snippets

HTC Incredible S - review Price: Rs. 28,900 (MOP) Full review here. The HTC Incredible S is a really good phone, and is one of those few devices we can call "well rounded". Very good performance meets a great display, and good construction meets a great keypad. The 4-inch display is a great compromise between bulkier 4.3-inch units and the smaller 3.7-inch ones. We're greedy though, and in lieu of dual core phones on the horizon, we'd like the Incredible S to be around 4,000 bucks cheaper, but all said and done, if you're hunting for an Android phone in this price range today, the Incredible S should top your shopping list. Pros Well built with a nice rugged, rubberised finish Good performer across all tests Good battery life, most welcome for an Android device Is one of those few devices with no serious flaws Cons Slightly expensive. At Rs. 24K would be a really sweet deal Contrast of the display could have been slightly better, ditto blackness levels Microphone near mouthpiece picks up micro noise and transmits it to the earpiece Not really a con, but this is a single core device so future proofing is "iffy" at the moment Source: thinkdigit.com

  12. Indian Space Research Organisation has built a supercomputer, which is to be India's fastest in terms of theoretical peak performance of 220 TeraFLOPS (220 Trillion Floating Point Operations per second). The supercomputer "SAGA-220", built by the Satish Dhawan Supercomputing Facility located at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of about Rs. 14 crore was inaugurated by K Radhakrishnan, Chairman ISRO at VSSC today, ISRO said in a statement. The new Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) based supercomputer, "SAGA-220" (Supercomputer for Aerospace with GPU Architecture-220 TeraFLOPS) is being used by space scientists for solving complex aerospace problems. "SAGA-220" is fully designed and built by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre using commercially available hardware, open source software components and in house developments. The system uses 400 NVIDIA Tesla 2070 GPUs and 400 Intel Quad Core Xeon CPUs supplied by WIPRO with a high speed interconnect. With each GPU and CPU providing a performance of 500 GigaFLOPS and 50 GigaFLOPS respectively, the theoretical peak performance of the system amounts to 220 TeraFLOPS, the statement said. The present GPU system offers significant advantage over the conventional CPU based system in terms of cost, power and space requirements, it said. The system is environmentally green and consumes a power of only 150 KW. This system can also be easily scaled to many PetaFLOPS (1000 TeraFLOPS). The previous fastest supercomputer in India was Eka, located at the Computational Research Laboratories in Pune, and was powered by Hewlett-Packard sponsored components. It has a theoretical peak performance of 132 teraflops. The latest TOP500 supercomputer rankings, now peg India at number 15 out of 29 countries in the list, with a combined performance of 333 TeraFLOPS. Source.

  18. Please see this - Digit tested the HD DTH services of the six major Indian service providers, Airtel digital TV (HD), Sun Direct HD, Dish TV TruHD, Tata Sky+ HD, and Videocon d2h, to tell you which is best suited for your needs. Overall Verdict Tata Sky+ HD was judged as the Best Performer for a host of parameters including its extremely responsive user interface. Quality of reception was flawless and it was the only service that offered six proper HD channels along with seasonal HD channel like Set Max. Tata Sky+ HD scored the maximum in terms of features offered. Except for preview while surfing, it has all other features. Videocon is the only one offering 3D support, but unless there is 3D content like movies or TV shows being broadcast, that feature is quite useless. Airtel Digital (HD) TV was judged as the Best Buy thanks to its economical pricing for the content offered. It scored the most in the Ease of Use section, thanks to its user-friendly interface and ease of operations, but the user interface could have looked better. Tata Sky+ HD and Sun Direct HD have beautiful and simple interfaces. Absence of universal remote functionality affected Tata Sky+ HD’s tally. Videocon d2h came in second thanks to the well defined interface. Videocon d2h 3D HD DVR was awarded the Editor’s Pick for its consistent performance across all the four parameters against which it was tested. It stood second in terms of Performance. It also scored the second highest overall. Moreover, the 3D function makes your service future proof if you have a 3D TV. It lost out on the total cost of ownership factor as it does not offer any discount on the HD-DVR box like the other competitors. But we are hoping that with cut-throat competition, Videocon will have to cut costs somewhere. As far as the best digital video recorder goes, Tata Sky+ HD was awarded the Best Buy thanks to the variety of recorder settings offered. The 500 GB hard disk which comes bundled with it, allows you to record more hours of SD and HD programs than the Videocon d2h and Reliance Digital HD DVR, for the same price point. Genre-wise Service Provider Recommendations English News - Tata Sky+HD English Entertainment - Tata Sky+ HD or Reliance HD DVR Infotainment - Airtel Digital TV (HD) Music - Reliance HD DVR English Movies - Tata Sky+ HD Hindi GEC - Tata Sky+ HD or Videocon d2h or Dish TV TruHD Sports Fanatic - Tata Sky+HD Source: thinkdigit.com
  19. ^ True does not make any sense to buy the 4 GB pendrive as they have stopped the offer, the 8 GB pendrive price is still valid though provided only 1 is bought. Your cost was ((Rupees 399*2) - Rupees 249)/2 = Rupees 274 now it is Rupees 525 - Rupees 249 = Rupees 276.
  20. Samsung Infuse 4G

This handset is being promoted lot by Samsung and AT&T, they are preloading it with Angry Birds with special level only for Infuse owners, also they are giving $25 credit and AT&T might be allowing sideloading (non market .apk installation) officially. Samsung Infuse 4G vs Galaxy S2 • While Galaxy S2 runs on latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Infuse works on Android 2.2 Froyo though upgradable. • The secondary camera of Galaxy S2 is 2Mp, better than 1.3 MP camera of Infuse 4G • The main cameras of both Galaxy S2 and Infuse are 8 MP but while Infuse can record HD videos in 720p, the camera of Galaxy S2 can go up to 1080p. • Infuse comes preloaded with Angry Birds game which is not there in Galaxy S2 • Infuse also allows for free downloads worth $25. • While Infuse boasts of a powerful 1.2GHz Hummingbird processors, Galaxy S2 has 1.2GHz dual core, ARM Cortex A9 processor • Infuse has a slightly larger 4.5 inch display than Galaxy S2 (4.3 inch) • Infuse has a larger battery at 1750mAh while Galaxy S2 has 1650mAh battery.
  21. Manjunath bhai, Thanks it worked was giving error from mobile. Rajan bhai, The pendrive mentions * Above price is a limited period offer with restriction of 2 pen drives per customer Will buying 3 4 GB pendrives work? Aalok bhai, Finally bought a cheap BT headset, was wary of spending more for something I will not use much. http://www.letsbuy.com/jabra-bluetooth-headset-2035-p-16359 Cost Rupees 999 - Rupees 250 = Rupees 749.
  22. India is not an initiator in R&D, we always use standards and frameworks invented or implemented by other countries but make a sham of reinventing the wheel. The Indian algorithm is something like creating a committe --> having meetings --> wasting public money in doing feasibility studies --> coming up with report --> revising the report under lobby pressures of industry --> more meetings --> revising the report under lobby pressures of politicians --> more meetings --> cost goes up --> more meetings --> feasibility report deemend unfeasible --> throwing report in dustbin --> implementing a half baked standard which is a copy of other country's ecosystem without properly adapting to our marker --> end up with neither here nor there system --> elections --> if new government then create new committee and start from beginning else carry on. This is true in all cases from telecom (USA uses CDMA, Europe uses GSM. We use both.) to constitution (USA uses president. UK uses prime minister. We use both.) We can never fully reinvent the wheel because we hardly ever invent anything. We are a services driven economy not innovation driven. In the end we are just going to adopt an outside country's system and pass it off as Indian reinvention. Instead of wasting efforts in such reinventing if we actually built on the good of readymade systems, and adapted it to our scenario, we would save effort and money, and also have better products. This discussion is way off topic so would stop here. Sorry to OP.
