BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
digitalnirvana replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
The government agencies are to be blamed here not RIM. They will try to play hardball but the government should be clear what is wants and that should be uniform for all operators. Instead the government is dilly dallying and sending out mixed signals. If RIM is not subject to any bans so far then why is Nokia being treated differently? Inefficiency is the buzzword for the government. -

Microsoft details the Windows Phone 7 'Mango' update at MIX 11 As expected, Microsoft detailed the upcoming Mango update for Windows Phone 7 at the MIX 11 developer event Las Vegas. The update is expected in sometime during the American Fall. It will offer many of the missing essential features, such as true multitasking including third party programs, built-in hardware acceleration for Flash and video content, as well as more complete Xbox integration, including a possible controller interface. Joe Belfiore detailed some of the behind-the-scenes developer features that enabled true application multitasking. A big part of this was how the Live Tiles of the apps would be able to display information, and the manners in which they can be accessed without navigating directly to them. Some of these features were demonstrated with a preview version of the Spotify digital music service app, which allowed users to pause, change tracks etc, while navigating through the phone. The Qantas app was also showcased, giving customers a wealth of “glance and go” information right from the tile, from check in and gate information to maps and flight details. The Mango update and its SDK will also allow developers to access the camera and motion sensor of the phone, allowing them to be used in apps. Developers would also have access to audio and file transfers. Other Mango features that were showcased included a barcode scanning app by Amazon, and customizable ringtones. The Internet Explorer 9 browser for WP7 was also showcased, winning a speed test against iOS and Android’s native browser. Microsoft also announced the release of the Silverlight 5 platform, allowing for improved graphics performance within apps, as well as audio playback for HTML5 webpages. Developers will also be happy to know that Microsoft will be releasing a software development kit for Kinect for Windows soon. It will release the source code after the software development kit is released. Apps such as Skype, Angry Birds, and IMDb were also announced for the new future. RIM CEO gets angry when asked about BlackBerry problems in India and the Middle East RIM’s recent experiences in India and the Middle East have been long and tortuous, with the company slowly being forced to turn over control of its much-used and famously-secure BlackBerry services in the respective regions for reasons of national security. An agreement has yet to be reached on that front, and in the meanwhile, Research In Motion has had to contend with the rising market share of Android and iOS smartphones. While RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazardis is not best known for his oratory skills, a recent BBC interview put in to light the stress the company is undergoing. When asked about the “problems [RIM] has had in terms of security, and the various arguments” with governments in India and the Middle East, Lazardis called the question unfair, vehemently defending the security of platform, and calling an end to the interview due to the sensitive nature of the issues being discussed: “That’s just not fair. Because first of all, it’s nuts. We have no security problems... we’ve just been singled out, because we’re so successful around the world. It’s an iconic product, used by businesses, it’s used by leaders, it’s used by celebrities, it’s used by consumers, it’s used by teenagers, we were just singled out.” “Alright, so it’s over, [the] interview’s over. Please, you can’t use that word, it’s just not fair… We’ve dealt with this, this is a national security issue, turn that off…” Surprisingly and a bit irresponsibly, this part of the interview was made available by the BBC, allowing us to satisfy our morbid curiosity in the face of a struggling platform. RIM has quite a few of its eggs riding the PlayBook basket, a QNX-based underdog tablet scheduled to launch in the U.S. and Canada on April 19th. You can see the relevant portion of the interview below: http://www.youtube.com/embed/n987fbiJJb4 Source: thinkdigit.com -
White iPhone 4 could be available in "two weeks" Apple is set to launch the highly anticipated white iPhone 4 in the next “two weeks”, fuelling speculation that the iPhone 5 will not be launched in June as originally anticipated, according to reports. White iPhone 4 Apple is set to launch the much-delayed white iPhone 4 in two weeks time, say Bloomberg sources. The new version is understood to be coming available in the USA on AT&T and Verizon Wireless by the end of this month. However, this news has fuelled speculation that the iPhone 5, which was expected to launch in June, will no longer be released this year. Bloomberg’s sources say that that the white iPhone 4 was postponed after the company found that the white paint peeled under heat. In a statement last June, Apple said: “White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July [2010].” Last month, Phillip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, hinted on Twitter that a white model would be available by this spring. Very heavy handed treatment towards Nokia when BB has been getting away scot free so far. I doubt the government is putting it's efforts behind this issue to actually solve it. As of now it just looks like a sham wherein it screws someone, that someone says give me time to fix, and the government then screws someone else. -

Vinay sir, Every tech company has it's fair share of hits and misses. E.g. google failed with orkut, waves, partially buzz. Apple failed and was almost bankrupt before Jobs came back and built iMac/iPod etc. There is general tendency to single out and criticize MS for their failings and this post is just a tongue in cheek attempt to exploit this by highlighting the various failures of MS. It is designed to invoke furious responses both for/against MS and if you go the telegraph site where this is hosted, there are many comments exactly like that. Your points are all valid and I respect them as clearly you have firsthand experience of these MS products more than most of us. I myself used Win 3.1, Win 98SE, WinXP and now Vista SP3 and find Win rock solid for everyday computing. Clarifying that I did not want to belittle MS. The post is only meant to invoke discussion about what MS products we do not like - that does not mean we don't like everything with MS name, but ofcourse it is valid that we like some products and don't like some. PS loved the bit of selling IE6 for Idli party over 1.44MB disks -
Please suggest one of the 3 shortlisted handsets
digitalnirvana replied to ddbajaj's topic in Handset Suggestions
Rajan bhai good detailed post. One edit, OP is asking for 9330 not 8330. @ddbajaj imported 9330 is available from Hitesh and Tushar see their posts in buy sell forum. BIS will not work on imported BB. Android is better OS compared to BB you need to check what your requirements e.g. if you need QWERTY then BB is best. -

Karthik and Rudradeep, This is tongue in cheek post and highlights the gripes raised during MS bashing, ofcourse MS has revolutionzed the computing experience and made the PC ubiquitous by providing a homogenous user experience with Windows. However much Apple fanboys hate MS, it's contribution to computing cannot be ignored. But we must also recognize that as the size of a brand grows, it becomes less nimble and less prone to making drastic changes. Same has happened to MS, it is a behemoth and a sitting duck while more agile players like Google eat away at it's market. MS has taken on - Sony in game consoles - won with XBox - Palm computing in handhelds - had advantage earlier, but no clear winner as webOS is staging comeback - Sun in server operating systems - this space is still fragmented with Win server, Solaris and Unix, no clear winner - Oracle and IBM in databases - not sure how the picture is here - AOL in internet access - won by mandatorily including IE, also windows 9x bundled AOL starter packs - Google in search and mobile/tablet operating system - currently not winning I would say the future of MS would be the computing ecosystem i.e. cloud. If it purely sticks to offline OS it risks becoming irrelevant with the increasing use of Chrome. -

It should be just ##778 without the call key is it not? I searched the internet and it seems if you find the correct EPST.apk you can overwrite the current one. If you have a nandroid with working EPST try to extract the .apk from there and replace the current .apk file. [GUIDE] Extract files from Nandroid backups .

True MTS is the fastest moving among CDMA operators in WB. RCDMA and TI are stagnant. -
Thanks for this. The dual cores would cost in the mid 30Ks if they were made available in India going by the price of the single core handsets.

Chandan I have used that site and while it is for a worthy cause, there was (not sure if still is) a trojan on the homepage. Similar is www.freerice.com where one has to take quiz to donate rice grains.

Very well put I totally agree. The point of this topic is to channelize positive thoughts and energy, empower with knowledge and contribute towards social upliftment. Many people here must be doing their bits towards social causes and there is a tendency not to make it public because often people mistake it for bragging, but we can discuss such things freely here because everyone is supportive and with such huge and vibrant community like this forum, if we all come together and share our ways of improving other people's lives, we can make positive difference. Cannot edit post title so mods kindly update as appropriate.
