Sprint Htc Hero - The Latest Android Kid On The Block
digitalnirvana replied to dkaile's topic in HTC
Hi all, I have possibly bricked my hero, was on 2.1 NFX stock ROM. I was trying to flash a custom splash screen hence I did all of this. Initially my fastboot showed S-ON and HBOOT as 1.47.0000. Step 1 I flashed the file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759955 and then my fastboot showed S-OFF and HBOOT as 1.47.0000. Then I tried flashing my custom spash screen through fastboot but it gave error remote not allow so I tried to flash eng spl. Step 2 Then I flashed the Eng SPL from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765237. After this the phone does not boot. If I do a battery pull and put the battery again, the charging red LED comes on. If I press the power button the LED goes off and then I have to repeat battery pull for LED to show again. The phone is apparently charging but HTC sync shows disconnected so not sure if RUU would work. Appreciate help. Thanks. -

Gmail Motion - A New Way To Communicate

OK bit late in the day for Apr fool jokes but nevertheless here is a good collection: With the logo changed to infer that the website was founded in 1911, users are given the choice to change the look of videos to make them silent and sepia-toned. Virgin buys Pluto Sir Richard Branson today released information about Virgin's latest tourism-based business venture. Virgin news announced that the company has bought Pluto and will attempt to have it reinstated as a planet. Sir Richard said: "Virgin has expanded into many territories over the years, but we have never had our own planet before. This could pave the way for a new age in space tourism." The company have even created a special vehicle - due to be launched this time next year - which they hope will be capable of 're-structuring' Pluto by leaching on to asteroids and 'bulking up' the planet in order to reach the required planetary mass. Butterfly Attacks Qualcomm, an American wireless telecommunications research and development company, is behind viral Internet videos which surfaced this week appearing to show incidents of severe butterfly attacks in various locations across the USA. The videos confront witty reports that their own prototype of Mirasol display is responsible for triggering aggression from the insects. Not Apr fool but funny Moussa Koussa, defected Libyan minister Some more here. -

Here is one more good one Planet of the Apps. BTW lol at Google each year they come up with something great - one year they came up with pigeon rank (i.e. they used pigeons to rank their pages in terms of relevance). -
Report: Android app market growing faster than iPhone apps BARCELONA -- The Android Market is growing at three times the rate of Apple's App Store, according to a report released by mobile security firm Lookout. The number of Android Market apps increased about 127 percent since August, while the number of apps in the Apple App Store grew at a rate of 44 percent during that period, the company said in its latest App Genome Project report, which is based on an analysis of more than 500,000 mobile apps for those mobile platforms. "The Android is maturing fast," but the Apple App Store still has significantly more apps, Lookout Chief Technology Officer Kevin Mahaffey told CNET in a phone interview. Based on Of the apps available to U.S. users, which reflects the apps Lookout analyzed, there are 350,000, apps for the iPhone compared to Android's 88,000, which more than doubled from 39,000 in August, according to Lookout. Overall, however, there are more than 150,000 Android apps, according to Google. Apple may have a higher percentage of paid apps but the number is rising on Android - from 22 percent of the total to 34 percent since August, while the number of paid apps in the Apple App Store declined slightly, from 70 percent of the total to 66 percent. "If apps continue to be developed for each platform at this same rate, the Android Market will have more apps than the Apple App Store by mid-2012," Mahaffey said. Google To Hold Back 'Honeycomb' From Phones
digitalnirvana replied to digitalnirvana's topic in Android
This was bound to happen, Big G has finally started curbing the openness of Android, and definitley many opensource proponents/devs/modders will be angry but - if Google can pull this off it will damage iOS and Apple massively - because Steve Jobs always used to criticize Android's fragmented user experience compared to iPhone's " one model, one experience" - if Google can find balance between open source and consistent user experience then Android will be winner. -
LG Rumoured To Make Google Nexus S Tablet, Possible Lead Device of Android 2.4
digitalnirvana posted a topic in Android
There is a distinct purpose served by the Google Nexus phones, they are the lead devices for their platforms at release, showcasing just what the new versions can do – its features, its capabilities – in a completely vanilla form. To that end, it is not very surprising that a Google Nexus tablet is rumoured to be in the pipeline. The rumours are quite fair – after HTC and Samsung, Google has given LG the chance to make the Google Nexus tablet. LG has shown it can handle the hardware with the LG Optimus Pad – being the first to squeeze in a 3D camera, a hi-res 1280x768 resolution 3D-capable display, 4G connectivity, and a dual-core processor in a Honeycomb tablet. That leaves all the fine-tuning of an all-vanilla Nexus tablet up to the geeks at Google. Since Honeycomb is already out, it stands to reason the LG Google Nexus tablet will run the rumoured phone-tablet OS – Ice Cream Sandwich or, version 2.4. This is the OS that Google seems to be prepping the Nexus One and S for, with the Android 2.3.3 update. Source: thinkdigit.com -

BSNL Provide EVDO In SIM
digitalnirvana replied to me_saket's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
^ Sougata I know WLL technology still thanks for explaining, AFAIK 033 WLL will work till Kalyani not beyond - what I meant to say is that Tarang is not CDMA FWP/mobile commercially wherein you can use it across circles (though MDA did circumvent that, remember the 40p STD scheme, RIM introduced WLL and allowed national roaming using BSNL network, all was good till some BSNL guy found out). -

^ Tarang is not CDMA per se, it is WLL, remember the early RIM numbers starting with 3? Same technology. -
Google is set to join forces with MasterCard and Citigroup to let users of its Android mobile phones pay for purchases using ‘near-field communications’ (NFC) technology, reports say. The move confirms suggestions made by Google when the NFC-enabled Nexus S handset launched, and would give the search giant a response to Orange’s UK plans to use Barclaycard’s technology for mobile phone ‘contactless’ payment. Apple is also rumoured to be considering using ‘NFC’ chips in its future iPhone products. The Wall Street Journal has reported that “The planned payment system would allow Google to offer retailers more data about their customers and help them target ads and discount offers to mobile-device users near their stores. Google isn't expected to get a cut of the transaction fees.” That approach would differ from rumours about how Apple could implement its system, but no clear details have yet emerged of any manufacturer’s plan. Apps, however, could be used to enable holders of credit cards to turn their phones into mobile wallets. A number of companies, such as discount site Groupon as well as Google, are known to be working on ways of making mobile phones received highly targeted offers or adverts. Google’s Chief Executive Eric Schmidt has repeatedly said that Google wants to take advantage of how much mobile phones know about their owners. Location data, combined with time and shopping history could be used to tailor ads, for instance. Mr Schmidt has also spoken enthusiastically about the potential for phones to be used to make payments. In the UK, millions of contactless payment cards are already in circulation. Card companies, however, have declined to say how many users actually take advantage of the technology, rather than using their cards in the conventional ‘chip and pin’ way. Source: telegraph.co.uk

This will be different from using a credit card app, what this means is that the mobile itself can be used as a card - you can go to a shop and just swipe your mobile against the card machine and using NFC the mobile will be used for ‘contactless’ payment.

Raccon I got your point too, and I meant to say that I prefer a full hardware QWERTY keyboard on mobiles too rather than a new standard like ABCD, because I am so accustomed to QWERTY on computers.

If iPhone comes with OMH this will be a game changer. CDMA market is US dominated and so far no OMH there. Once Apple gives OMH then others will also face the pressure. My only point is that in the US (as well as Europe, but that is GSM) most phones are bought as part of a package where you are locked to the provider for two or three years. Here no SIM/RIUM is a boon the the provider. So how will the OMH approach work out there? Of course the OMH only provides the info which is not coded into the phone, i.e. the phone only picks up what it does not find within itself from the UMH-RUIM. so they may still code in some masala! It will not work there, because the networks provide phone with contract. In these markets usually the user gets the phone free and the network recovers the cost through rental over contract duration, this suits both the user and the network - the user gets free phone, plus usually gets upgraded to an advanced phone before the contract ends, and the network gets assured revenue over defined term. This works because the market has a proper way of verifying credit worthyness of user - this is vital otherwise users would just take a contract and not pay their bills as had happened to RIM. OMH will only be relevant for emerging markets like China and India where the market is not matured enough to provide such contract locked phones. In India the majority of the market is prepaid and with low cost handsets. If and when the market matures and a concept like social security number comes in these markets which can track credit records of customers, then a contract locked phone might be viable.

Hi Ankit welcome to the forum. Please check and buy from Sadikk bhai who is selling for 5K, this is better for you than buying from US and going through complex configuration process which would cost extra. -
^ Think it is so that users do not need to adapt to a new keyboard as most are used to QWERTY.
-
On a computer I can touchtype i.e. type without looking at keyboard so those like me who are accustomed to QWERTY would find it easier. QWERTY is an international standard, so ABC keyboard would be like reinventing the wheel.
