  1. MTNL/BSNL is never going to keep their prices at the current level for long. Once private players start 3G services, PSUs will bring their prices to the same level; I feel. Both PSUs where never price makers, they always followed on others pricing(at least most of the time). Remember when one-second billing was launched, BSNL came up with 1p/s to all networks. But once Airtel,Voda and Idea launched differential tariff to other networks, BSNL too changed their tariff to 1.2p/s to off-nets.
  2. Portability rollout to hit Telcordia hurdle NEW DELHI: The much-delayed mobile number portability (MNP) in India could be a non-starter as the government has rejected the proposal of US-based Telcordia Technologies, one of the two companies chosen to implement the technology here, an official with direct knowledge of the development told ET. The foreign investment promotion board (FIPB), the government body that clears all major investment proposals, rejected Telcordia’s proposal on Monday on security grounds after the home ministry refused to grant its approval for the deal in its current format, a telecom department official said. When contacted, Ashok Sapra, MD (India) MNP Interconnections Solutions, said, “We are unaware of any decision of FIPB at this point, but we believe that the government of India will take a fair and reasonable view of our case.” “In the event of the government turning down or declining permission to us, we will certainly take recourse within the tenable norms and laws of this democratic nation.” The FIPB had deliberated on Telcordia’s proposal for over eight months and had deferred it several times during this period due to objections raised by the home ministry, including the company’s presence in Pakistan. Interestingly, FIPB had recently cleared a proposal by another telco that had operations in Pakistan. Telcordia had an equipment supply agreement with a vendor in Pakistan that ended last November. The communication, finance, commerce and other ministries had all said that they had no objections to the proposal. MNP was scheduled to be implemented from January 1, 2010, in the metros and category-A circles, while the rest of the country was slated to have this platform by April 1, 2010. But, the implementation of this facility has already missed three deadlines and the telecom ministry has set October 31 as the last date to launch the service. The FIPB’s rejection of Telcordia’s proposal implies that India will miss the October 31 deadline too. Syniverse is the other company that has been selected to implement MNP in India. The home ministry has also reversed its earlier stance when, in February, it had agreed to give conditional security clearance to Telcordia Technologies’ proposal. The home ministry had then decided to attach a rider that none of the staff of the US-based telecom firm that have worked in Pakistan, at any point of time, can be employed in the Indian operations. It had also said that the CEO of the Indian arm, a 74:26 JV between Telcordia Technologies and Deepak Talwar Consultants, will have to be an Indian. Indian regulations do not allow more than 74% foreign holdings in any company that offers communications and related services here. This resulted in Telcordia entering an agreement with Deepak Talwar Consultants for its Indian operations with the latter holding the remaining 26%. The US government had also put its weight behind the company. Minister-counsellor for commercial affairs at the US embassy, Carmine D’Aloisio wrote to finance secretary Ashok Chawla urging the Indian government to send the “right signals” to American companies looking to invest in India. “The company views India as a key market, and is currently committed to expanding its operations here. I hope that the company continues to thrive in India and your government sends the right signals about fairness and predictability in the India business climate, encouraging further American investment and participation in India,” Mr D’Aloisio had written in his letter. 13. BSNL WiMAX Review

latency seems to vary a lot. well as expected from wireless connection of course. I just checked BSNL's wimax page. 999UL plan is shown to have fixed speed of 512kbps and 'upto 2mbps' plans have data limit. Arun, are you sure you are on True Unlimited plan? This is the page : http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/wimax/wimax_homepage.htm
  14. BSNL WiMAX Review

Nice review. How is the latency to Us/Europe?
  15. ^^^ Which handset are you using? Usually Settings are stored on the phone and not overwritten. You can select which settings to use to connect for an application.
  16. According to new tariffs, RGSM gives just 1GB for 15 days at Rs.51. With my personal experience, I suggest using DoCoMo just for GPRS. (I use R-GSM for voice)
  17. There is no per-day limit. Just 6GB for 30days. The 48 GRPS-Pack gives 2GB for 30 days.
  18. ^^^ Go for DoCoMo's Rs.95 card for 6GB data per month. Good speed, Stable connection.

  20. Not before Mid 2011. Govt planned to provide spectrum on 1st Sep earlier. But there was some news of three months delay. So consider spectrum to be awarded in Nov, 6-8 months setting up and testing... comes to July!! On a positive note since Tata and Reliance have lost many circles we MAY see better data/internet plans on CDMA.
  21. when will RCOM start this service. Any idea if there are looking forward to implement it?
  22. CDMA 2000 1X Advanced, DO Advanced

  23. we have to wait and see the details of this plan.
