  1. RIM customers give a 'thumbs up' to m-commerce for RIM bill payment · RIM bill payments through online channel jumps 40 percent in just two months · Reliance Infocomm offers largest number of bill payment options to customers DAKC (Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City), Navi Mumbai, August 6, 2004 Reliance IndiaMobile (RIM) customers have overwhelmingly responded to bill payments through R World, the data application suite of RIM, for paying their RIM bills. Since its launch in February 2004, the RIM bill payments through mobile phones using credit card has significantly increased. RIM bill payments through online channels including credit card and direct debit methods have witnessed a 40 percent jump over the last two months. "The RIM bill payment facility through mobile handsets is the most convenient way to pay mobile bills. R World provides me a unique platform, which offers PC type online transaction experience, while enabling payment through the mobile handset. I can view my bill details and pay my mobile bill even while travelling to my workplace, which can easily be completed in a single session unlike SMS based transactions," said Mr. Amarendra Mohanty, software professional from Chennai and winner of the contest organised by the company. "The online bill payment facility developed on our R World suite of applications provides real time transactions that offer one of the most secure m-commerce transactions. The early trends in online RIM bill payment clearly demonstrate an increasing confidence in online transactions. With more and more customers enjoying a pleasant experience in utilizing this 'anytime, anywhere' facility, we are witnessing a significant growth in contribution from the online bill payment mechanism," said Mr. Mahesh Prasad, President - Applications and Solutions Group. Reliance Infocomm offers its customers the widest array of options towards their mobile bill payment, which includes conventional methods as well as 'anytime' convenience of electronic and online payments. These include: Facility to pay RIM bills from data enabled RIM handsets (R World) using Visa, Master, Citibank eCard or Diners Club credit cards Facility to pay RIM bills through company portal www.relianceinfo.com using Visa, Master, Citibank eCard or Diners Club credit cards Direct debit facilities for ICICI bank and HDFC bank account holders using the net-banking option of respective banks Through 250 Reliance WebWorld stores across 111 cities Through 2679 drop boxes across the country where customers can drop their cheques for bill payment 679 collection points operated by channel partners where customers can pay bills by cash, cheque or credit card 83 counters at Reliance Infocomm offices and 161 bank counters across the country Tie-ups with 'Bill Desk' and 'Billjunction' portals for making online bill payments

  3. One more news related to this.. GSM Majors To Counter RIM Pre-paid Offensive KRISHNA GOPALAN. Posted online: Sunday, August 15, 2004 at 0017 hours IST. The FE MUMBAI, AUG 14: The price war in the wireless space has resurfaced. Just when cellular users were informed by service providers that their roaming tariffs would increase, Reliance Infocomm has announced a steep cut (as much as 60 per cent for some calls) in its pre-paid tariffs starting Monday. The move is likely to change market dynamics as it is the first major price war in the pre-paid segment. Cellular service providers have, however, said that any significant price cut is unlikely. “What might perhaps happen is that the user may get more value-added services like additional talktime or even free SMS for a limited period,” said a senior official at a cellular company. Officials at GSM companies are maintaining a wait and watch policy. “We need to study the issue in detail since we have just hiked our roaming tariffs. This has certainly upset our revenue projections,” one GSM operator said. He pointed out that any freebie will be difficult to sustain for an indefinite period. Not surprising since the pre-paid segment accounts for about 70 per cent of the overall wireless market and 80 per cent of the incremental subscriber base each month. But what do Reliance’s new tariffs look like? For an intra-circle call made from one RelianceIndia Mobile (RIM) phone to another, the pre-paid user will now shell out 99 paise per minute compared to Rs 2.49 earlier. This is lower than what a post-paid entry-level user would normally pay for intra-circle calls. The Next Round • Reliance cuts tariffs by 60 per cent for Reliance-to-Reliance intra-circle calls • GSM operators say a price cut will be difficult and free bies may have to be given • Pre-paid accounts for 70 per cent of the overall wireless subscriber base • Operators’ margins will be under pressure if tariffs are dropped.

  14. Gametrix lights Aladdin's lamp with scratch cards Thechtree.com Ever imagined of a prepaid card, which allows downloading games in mobile phones? Aladdin Multimedia and Gametrix Entertainment are set together to turn this concept into a reality. Aladdin Multimedia and Gametrix Entertainment have launched a scratch card, which allows the users to download games and other mobile entertainment content on their J2ME and GPRS enabled mobile phones. Priced at denominations of Rs.49 and Rs.99, each scratch card will have a secret access code, which will allow users to get access to download content on their mobile phones. Each game in the card is priced at Rs.10, which means that a card with an MRP of Rs.49 will have five games. Whenever a user downloads a game, Rs.10 is automatically deducted from his card. Only one user can use one card. There are 30 games available at present with this card, of which users have to select according to their choice. Speaking to Techtree, Ashwyn Kumar, executive director of Gametrix, said, "We are planning to increase the number of the games to 450 in one months time." Gametrix had earlier provided games to Reliance Infocomm. When asked about their tie-up with any GSM service provider, Mr. Kumar said, "We will be tying up soon with Spice Telecom. Besides this, we are also planning to tie up with yahoo.com, which will enable the GSM mobile phone users to download our games through the yahoo portal. Other than providing games in the scratch cards, Aladdin is also planning to include wallpapers and ring tones in their cards. Rajiv Warrier, managing director of Aladdin Multimedia, says, "In the first phase we are aiming to built a strong subscriber base. Once that is built, then we will launch new services in the card." He further adds, "The new additional services like wallpapers and ring tones, will be charged in a similar manner like games, where a certain amount will be deducted from the card for a certain wallpaper or ring tone." Gametrix site is http://www.gametrixinc.com/

  18. Lg Rd 7230 A Enpnacive Mess

Sometimes being abnormal will helpfull.. so be that.. Now for your linux problem read and do following it may help. because by doing just that my R-connect works.. following is specific for LG RD7230 . my kernel ver is 2.4 check your kernel ver by "kernelversion" command. u mentioned 2.0.4 actully 2.0.4 is very OLD version it is may be 2.4 If it is 2.0 then it is not USB enabled so I can;t help u. Step 0: Activating the R-Connect Services On your hand set, dial *412(i.e star-four-one-two) and wait for the success message. It may take 15 seconds to 2 minutes, according to the Reliance Website. Step 2: Configuring the phone Now enter following commands. modprobe usbserial modprobe ftdi_sio modprobe acm If any command returns "modprobe: Can't locate module" then u don't have required kernel modules. Step 3: PPP Configuration Look at /etc/ppp/options file and make sure it has following..lines. lock asyncmap 0 crtscts modem defaultroute usepeerdns noauth /dev/modem 115200 Step 4: A Last Step Now make a file called .ppprc in your home directory, containing the following line. user <your-phone-number> password <your-phone-number> Here, <your-phone-number> is your phone number (you guessed that? WOW!!), with the STD code, without the leading zero. For eg: if you are in Bangalore (STD code 080) and your Reliance IndiaMobile number is 12345678, use 8012345678. Now run following two commands. 1)killall -9 pppd 2)pppd /dev/ttyACM0 115200 debug usepeerdns defaultroute connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v "" at+cta=30 OK "atdt#777" CONNECT' mtu 264 your phone will start dialing after little time. if not then Pull out Cable and reinsert then apply above two commands. Note: dev file my LG 7230 in Suse is /dev/ttyACM0 so if /dev/ttyACM0 don't works then try /dev/ttyUSB0 And if pppd command not found then run all command as root
  19. Reliance plans more knowledge cities. Hemangi Balse & Tamal Bandopadhyay / Mumbai July 21,2004.Business Standard After Mumbai, campuses lined up for other metros. Reliance Infocomm, the information technology and communication initiative of the Rs 99,000 crore Reliance group, is planning to replicate a smaller version of the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City (DAKC) outside Mumbai to other metros. The company is planning to invest Rs 1,200 crore to set up these knowledge cities across the country. The mini-DAKCs will house Internet data centres, call centres, application development laboratories, network operations centres and auxiliary facilities. Reliance Infocomm has bought land in Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad to house these mini-DAKCs and is using land owned by its associate company, Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (IPCL), in Delhi, for its campus there. Sanjay Mashruwala, president, Reliance Infocomm, told Business Standard: “It will be a repeat engineering of what we see in the case of DAKC, although the campuses will be smaller. They are expected to be ready in a year. By doing this, we are decentralising activities of the data centres and reaching out into smaller regional complexes.” Once these centres are set up, the company will be in a position to offer 70-80 per cent of the total infrastructure that is required for business process outsourcing activities across the country. Reliance Infocomm is planning to offer connectivity infrastructure where enterprises, including portals, financial institutions and banks, can outsource their entire networking and back office operations to Reliance’s Internet data centres (IDCs). Reliance Infocomm’s IDCs are offering carrier-neutral facilities to international telecom operators like Sprint and MCI WorldCom. ESPN-STAR, which was outsourcing its back office operations from the US, UK and Hong Kong till recently, has now shifted to Reliance Infocomm’s IDC on a “fully managed” basis. The company is in the process of making its fourth IDC operational in Bangalore by raising the net floor space to 123,000 square feet. In contrast, other players in the arena like VSNL-Tata-Dishnet’s IDC has a net floor space of around 60,000-65,000 square feet and Satyam, around 35,000 square feet. With plans for data centres in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, the company proposes to establish a total capacity of over 205,000 square feet. Reliance Infocomm’s IDCs have 250 customers, of which 26 are banks and financial institutions, including Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, Syndicate Bank and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Besides, it also has servers of various government offices, including the education department of Maharashtra and e-mail accounts of the Mumbai police department. FMCG major Hindustan Lever is also its client.
