The Reliance Network: A bird's eye view Shilpi Das Reliance Infocomm has made adequate technological provisions to ensure uninterrupted network service to cope with the ever increasing number of users. The network management and the related equipment at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City (DAKC), Mumbai, from where the All India network of Reliance India Mobile (RIM) is monitored, projects that. The backbone of the RIM network is the optical fibres network that spans a total distance of 95,000 km across the country. These fibres help to carry voice and data traffic across the network. Built using high capacity G655 fibre optic cables, they can manage a total bandwidth of 9,200 Gbps. Even so, Reliance has plans to multiply the bandwidth by several times in the not-so-far future. Situated at various locations, are several Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), which receive and transmit mobile signals to and from Reliance IndiaMobile handsets. There are 3600 such BTS towers across the country, whose concentration varies with the density of users. A call made from a Reliance IndiaMobile handset to another Reliance IndiaMobile handset at any other location, is transferred through these BTS towers on Reliance IndiaMobile's "transport" network till it is transferred to the receiver. However, a single BTS tower can only handle a specific number of calls. So highly populated cities like Mumbai have more BTS towers than any thinly populated ones. According to Reliance, the CDMA 1X technology used by them, helps them handle 5 to 6 times more customers per tower than a conventional BTS tower used by any GSM operator. Every region of the country which has Reliance network, is linked through a 'Ring Architecture' which promises to provide security and route the calls/data through a different route if any part of optical fiber is broken. In order to supply uninterrupted service of network, special measures are taken in the National Network Operations Centre (NNOC) in DAKC, which monitors the All India Reliance network on a 24x7 basis. Set up in an area of 110,000 sq. ft., it is designed to ensure provision for new connection, detect network faults and degradations conclusively ensuring several measures of remedy. The large video walls around the hall allow experts to view and locate the region of the fault. The physical division of the monitors correspond to several operational groups like voice information, data information, and actual physical infrastructure. According to Reliance, once a fault occurs and is detected in NNOC, it gets resolved within the next four hours. Also, in case of a cable rupture or network faults anywhere around the country, the fault can be pinpointed with an accuracy of 15 meters. Besides this, NNOC also has a Situation Room, which is equipped to handle any crisis or outage in the network. For example if there is a threat for interrupted network service due to severe weather, then this Situation Room comes into action. Besides this there is an NNOC in Hyderabad which provides backup service if there is a glitch in DAKC. Recently, Reliance has been named as the 'Most Promising Service Provider' of Asia Pacific region and awarded by Frost & Sullivan. Witnessing the whole network management of Reliance at DAKC, the Technology and the infrastructure, such accolades don’t come as a surprise.

It is prepaid for international calling it is not connected with your current billing or normal prepaid account. To use it first u have to dial *347 and enter 12 digit code printed on card. If u have ISD disable then also it works. because to use it first dial *345 and then when prompted enter any ISD number with ISD and area code. If u dial without *345 then normal ISD rates will be applicable. it is safer to use..!! and voice clearity is good.

CDMA Or GSM, This Phone Talks To Both The Financial Express. SAN DIEGO: In what will bring down the wall between CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) mobile services in India, global handset manufacturers will soon introduce a multi-mode mobile phone that will work on both types of networks. This would mean that subscribers of Reliance Infocomm and Tata Teleservices will be able to roam in GSM network areas. CDMA technology pioneer and solution provider Qualcomm has already developed the multi-mode handset technology and some of the handset manufacturers like Samsung, which has already launched its model A-790 in some of the markets, have already started manufacturing and marketing multi-mode phones. The multi-mode phones are currently priced at around $500 (above Rs 20,000) as they have high-end multimedia capabilities. However, the phone to be launched in India will be priced much lower as it will be developed specifically for the local market with fewer features. According to a highly placed official of Qualcomm, CDMA operators in India are keen to launch multi-mode mobile phones so that their subscribers can roam in GSM networks as well. “One of the Indian CDMA operators is seriously looking at the option (of launching multi-mode phones) and is talking to handset manufacturers. The handsets will be targeted at high-end users like international travelers so that they can remain connected in pure GSM network areas. However, a possibility of low-end phones with basic features (like voice, short message services and dual mode capability) is also being explored by the mobile manufacturers,” a Qualcomm official told eFE on the sidelines of the ongoing BREW Developers 2004 conference in San Diego. At present, multi-mode phones are not considered suitable for the Indian market. These phones are expensive as they also have high-end multimedia features. However, Qualcomm technologists believe that a low-cost dual mode phone can easily be developed with only basic features to suit the price sensitive market in India. Interestingly, the new multi-mode phones will also provide flexibility to the subscribers to switch operators across both networks if CDMA operators switch to SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) based mobile phones in future. Currently, there are two major barriers that are keeping the two networks and their subscribers insulated from each other in India. One, CDMA operators are not offering SIM-based phones, binding their users to their own networks. Second, there have been no multi-mode handsets available to the users, who had to re-invest in a new mobile phone to hop on to another network. As CDMA operators have been claiming that SIM-based phones would be offered soon, experts feel that India will finally have an integrated mobile network (from the user perspective) by the next calendar year.

niket replied to Chirag's topic in Reliance Communications
Reliance Infocomm awarded as Most Promising Service Provider. Techtree.com - India. Shilpi Das. Reliance Infocomm has added another feather to its cap. It has been awarded the Most Promising Service Provider of the Year 2003 (Asia Pacific) award at the Asia Pacific Technology Awards. Frost & Sullivan organized the award function on May 27, 2004 where 24 awards were given out under different categories. These awards recognized the leading companies and individuals who have made their mark in various segments of the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) industry. The criteria used for judging the whole process included market share growth, revenue growth, product/service innovation and demonstrated contribution to the ICT industry. The panel of judges comprised of senior global executives from telecom equipment vendors, service providers and analysts and media firms from the Asia Pacific region. Since its onset, Reliance Infocomm has renewed its services continuously through the introduction of several schemes; the maximum of which are through its application suite, R World. For instance, it tied with several news channels like Aaj Tak, NDTV and CNBC to give the latest news updates and bulletins to its users. Also a relay of clips from Apsara Awards function was showcased via NDTV on Reliance India Mobile (RIM) handsets. Besides this, the company constantly inaugurates new schemes with different tariffs and services. However, whether Reliance lives up to its promises is yet to be seen. -

Current jatayu MMS client is very basic in nature. In other terms we really can't do real MMS because it lacks animations and video( animated GIF ) also. In RWW they have demonstration( Fake ) piece of RD 7230 and Samsung RCP . So with out holding real phone how one can judge which is better or which he likes. RD 7230 and Samsung RCP both comes with 300k cam.. I think only advantage of RD 7230 is capability to capture video and more memory. But in Samsung RCP cam is better positioned and has built-in flash also. And Ya.. rotating screen is awesome.

Last week I bought Nokia Prepaid phone. it seems good. but untill I don't have cable for it..
-
Very good decision...!! From first I prefer not to build illegal hacker community here because there is so many sites and forums who deals with that things.. why we join them.? There are so many things we can do? Use hidden features of phone. (Ex. Use of BitPim) Know latest offering Of Rim very first. Or customize BitPim to use with RIM phones so one don't need to use file system Tab. Instead directly he upload ringtones. So programmer think on this way so U give back something to BitPim. and add RIM phones to BitPim compatible phone.

It seems form last some news items that Techtree.com has some prejudices for Reliance. They should get facts first. It is better if they provides balanced views. This is not actually a news story also. Above sentence is just a crap. Yes it is right that there is no easy way out. But who need that.. Ya handset change is real prob.. reliance should think seriously on that matters.. because I know many guys who off from reliance only because they can't easily change handset... they have money to spend on phones so reliance should come up with better(EASY!!) handset change process.

Price war erupts in phone services mkt Source: Sify, March 10, 2004 A price war has erupted in the country's international phone services market after Data Access offered to connect calls from state-run Bharat Sanchar's network to key Western nations at a big discount to the existing price. Telecom operator Data Access said it had offered Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd a "settlement rate" of Rs 1.69 (US 3.75 cents) a minute for connecting calls to the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, far less than the nine rupees Bharat Sanchar currently pays for US connections. Unlisted Bharat Sanchar is by far the country's largest domestic phone services company, with slightly more than 35 million fixed-line and nearly five million mobile phone customers.Bharat Sanchar had called for bids from operators to carry its calls out of the country after Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd lost its monopoly on providing this service to the state-run giant in mid-February. As part of Videsh Sanchar's privatisation in February 2002, Bharat Sanchar was obliged to route outgoing calls with Videsh for two years, provided the rates were competitive.Bharat Sanchar has yet to decide on the winning bids and when they would go into effect, a senior official said, adding that it was now waiting for Videsh Sanchar's counter-offer.Indian companies together earn revenue of about one billion dollars a year from incoming and outgoing international calls, although incoming calls outweigh outgoing calls by about four times in terms of minutes. Four Indian operators with licences for international phone services -- Videsh Sanchar, Data Access, Bharti Tele-Ventures and Reliance Infocomm -- have bid for various routes in Bharat Sanchar's tender. New Delhi-based Data Access, a joint venture between Hong Kong fixed-line company PCCW Ltd and India's SPA Enterprises Ltd, is planning an initial public offering soon. Reliance Infocomm is 45-percent owned by Reliance Industries, the flagship of India's largest business group. Videsh Sanchar, part of the second-largest, Tata group, earns about three quarters of its revenue from international services.
