  1. "This is the outcome of reading several postings in this forum. My effort is only in putting the pieces of information together as a step-by-step procedure. I have tried to write it in the for-dummies style. Jeeks, please forgive." If you are using a third-party USB cable RConnect installation may fail to detect your phone as a modem. This is what you can do to bypass the RConnect dialer installation. (RConnect software is merely a dialer that gives you some statistics like duration of the connection, amount of data sent/received etc. You don't lose anything by not using it.) It worked with my LG RD 5130 phone, Windows XP with Service Pack 1 and a third-party USB cable with Prolific 2303 chip. I guess the same procedure should work with any other handset and OS combination too. Just do these three simple(!) steps: (0) Select a working USB port in your computer. Check the port with some other USB device. Make sure that it works before trying anything else. (1) Connecting the Phone: Connect the phone to the working USB port in your computer. Windows will detect new hardware and ask for a driver. Keep your CD ready in the drive and Windows will install the driver automatically. Then it should say that "the device is installed and ready to use". Now go to Control Panel -> System -> Device manager -> Ports. Note the COM port to which your phone has been connected. (This will be something like COM3 or COM4 depending on the ports in your computer.) If Windows does not detect any new hardware when you connect the phone go to Device Manager and tell it to "Scan for new hardware". (2) Installing the Modem: Now go to Control Panel -> Phones and Modems. Select Modems tab and "Add" a new modem. Tell windows *not* to detect your modem and that you will select it yourself. Then from the given options select the "standard 33600 bps modem" as your modem type. In the ports setting for the modem, select the COM port to which your phone is connected. Select 11500 in the 'Maximum port speed". Go to the advanced tab in the properties of the modem and enter this string: "ATZ;AT+CTA=30" (without quotes) in the "Extra initialization commands" box. (3) Getting Connected: In your phone, go to Settings -> Phone -> Data -> Baud rate and select 11500. Then add a new dial-up connection by going to "Network connections" in Windows. Tell Windows to use your standard 33600 bps modem (which you installed in step 2). Enter #777 the phone number to be dialled (including the # symbol). No area code, nothing. Enter your 10-digit reliance phone number (without zero) as the username and password. Save the connection. Open it again and click "Dial" or "Connect". You should get connected if both the USB port and the cable are fine. Your phone will first display the words "PPP data" and then start showing some statistics including the duration of the connection. To disconnect, open the connection window and click "Disconnect". You can also click on the connection status icon in your notification area (rightmost portion in the task-bar) and click "Disable" or "Disconnect". To get statistics about the connection (duration, amount of data transferred etc.) you can see the "properties" of the connection. If you face any problem with the above procedure then please post it here and I am sure that there are many people here to help you including myself.
  2. Lg Rd 5130 Battery Backup Problem

I am using a 5130 for past 3 years. Till now I had no trouble with the handset. But now there is a serious problem. The battery charge gets drained in just one call. If I dont make any call then the battery charge remains for a few hours. When I put it on charger it says "Charging complete" in few minutes but the problem repeats. I changed the battery but no use. Has anyone faced this problem before? How much would it cost to fix this? Thanks, mani
  3. Lg Rd 5130 Battery Backup Problem

Update: I got my phone and charger checked in LG Service centre; they said everything is fine, but the panel needs to be changed because there is some loose contact caused by the old panel. The panel replacement will cost Rs.1125. I have decided to leave Reliance after 3 years and join the GSM world.
  4. Unable To Install R Connect (usb Cable Xp Sp2)

I missed what he said about his internal modem. Then your solution should work without any problem.
  5. Unable To Install R Connect (usb Cable Xp Sp2)

Hi Arun, Won't this cause a conflict ? I guess his internal model would have already been configured at COM1. If he renames his new (USB cable) port as COM1 then he will not he able to use the internal modem. Please explain. mani
  6. Unable To Install R Connect (usb Cable Xp Sp2)

This means that your cable driver was not installed properly. Check here: Control Panel -> System -> Hardware (tab) -> Device Manager -> Ports (COM and LPT). Your new port (COM4) will be listed here if it has been installed properly. If it is missing, try to reinstall the cable driver and check again. If this fails again you may have problem with either your USB port or the cable or the device driver for the cable. If you have another USB port in your computer try that. If you do not have another USB port, then try to install the cable in some other computer (your friend's for example) with Windows XP. If it fails there too then try changing the device driver. You can find drivers for PL2303 on the web. (I will try to attach them here soon.) If everything fails then you will have to return the cable to your vendor and ask for a replacement. I have only SP1 installed in my machine. So I am not sure if SP2 is what is causing the problem in your machine. I am sure others can help to clarify this.
  7. I have an LG 5130 handset and bought a USB cable from a third-party via Baazee.com (seller:Nisha@IndCables.com). The cable works for PC sync (only for contacts etc. not for pictures or ringtones). But I am not able to install the RConnect dialer software. I am using Windows XP without Service pack 2. The software fails immediately after installing the USB driver (3.0). When I connect the phone after that step and install the driver given with the cable the RConnect software is not able to establish the connection with the phone. The phone modem is not listed under Modems (Control Panel -> Phones and Modems) either. I have tried uninstall/reinstall several times. The USB port is working fine. The cable seems to be ok (it transfers data for syncing contacts). What else could be wrong ? Can anyone please help ? Thanks, mani
  8. How To Connect When Rconnect Installation Fails

Hi Alam, did you try to install a standard modem as explained in this post ?
  9. Lg2130 & Rconnect Driver For Mac Osx?

Hi Meanest Indian, Reliance says that it works only with Mac OS X 10.1.2 to 10.1.5. Yours is 10.3. How do you expect it to work ?
  10. Nokia 3105

Probably your phone does not have that feature (WAP). But don't worry. The Surf option in RWorld is a useless feature. You are not missing anything. You can get a cable and do real web-surfing (using RConnect) instead. (But of course you have to pay for it!)
  11. How To Connect When Rconnect Installation Fails

Hi Nazir, You can try the data-sync software (for your phone) with your cable to see if it works. You can download the sync software from your phone manufacturer's website. mani
  12. Lg2130 & Rconnect Driver For Mac Osx?

Correction!! What you download from RelianceInfo site includes the driver for FTDI chip based USB cable - for Mac OS X versions 10.1.2 - 10.2.5. (But what about other cables... like Prolific-based ones ?) If you have an FTDI chip based cable you are lucky. If you have not already bought the cable buy an FTDI chip based one. Better buy it from Reliance itself. The location I have mentioned in my previous post also provides a very brief Installation Guide.
  13. Lg2130 & Rconnect Driver For Mac Osx?

The modem driver for LG RD 2030 is available on Relianceinfo.com (Go to Reliance India Mobile -> RConnect -> RIM Data Cables -> Macintosh). But no cable-vendor provides the driver for Mac. All they know is Windows!! Where will you get the Mac driver for your cable ?
  14. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

Hi Devesh, Nice effort. But I have already explained the procedure in detail in a separate posting: How to connect when RConnect installation fails. mani
  15. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

Hi Shuvabrata, Did you try the installer for RD 2030 *after* the installer for RD 5130 failed to install with your USB cable ? mani
  16. How To Connect When Rconnect Installation Fails

Hi Nazir, Looks like your cable is not working. Since you bought it on Baazee you can report that the product is faulty and ask for a replacement. I bought from the same seller (Nisha-online) via Baazee and got my first cable replaced because it was not working. The first cable I got was from IndCables; then they sent me another cable from Enter Multimedia. It works with the standard 33600 bps modem as I have explained in the posting. It also works with linux (after a kernel recompilation - if you use some latest version of linux you won't need to recompile the kernel). mani
  17. How To Connect When Rconnect Installation Fails

I read in a posting that RConnect installer for LG 2030 works for LG 5130 too with a third-party USB cable. I haven't tried this yet.
  18. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

Hi Shuvabrata, Do you mean that everything else (except the taskbar) works after connecting ? In any case, try to disable displaying network connection status in the taskbar. To do this, Uncheck "Show icon in notification area when connected" in the properties of your RIM connection. I will try the 2030 installer. Thanks. mani
  19. Linux Driver For Prolific 2303

Does anyone have the Linux driver for Prolific 2303 chip based USB cable ? Where can I get it ?
  20. Linux Driver For Prolific 2303

Hi Raghu and Dacodecz, I recompiled the kernel again with the loopback device option selected (as 'y') and ran the pppd script given by Dacodecz. I got connected successfully!! Thanks a lot to both of you!! But I got an error while booting off the new kernel. Somethine like "char-major-xxxx" can not be found. I went a bit too experimental and tried to fix it. Recompiled the kernel with many options (mainly under Character devices) selected (as built-in modules) and tried to boot. Got a kernel panic. Anyway, my RConnect problem has been fixed and I guess we can take this linux problem to some linux forum rather than add a lot of irrelevant information (in short - junk?) to Rimweb. Thanks again. mani
  21. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

A Miracle! My cable suddenly started working with Windows XP. I did not install RConnect dialer; But set up a standard 33600 bps modem configured to the COM port to which my phone is connected. I have been trying the same for many days and failing. But yesterday it started working suddenly. I don't know why it didn't work all these days and why it started working now. I will investigate this further and post the findings here to help others. Thanks to all who extended their support to me.
  22. Linux Driver For Prolific 2303

Hi Dacodecz, I configured the (KPPP) modem dialer in Knoppix and tried to connect. The modem responds to the dial command (ATDT#777) by saying "CONNECT". But nothing happens after that. The connecting window keeps saying "Logging on to network". I tried all types of Authentication options. Though I have added the pppd option noauth KPPP forces us to choose some Authentication option. The choices are PAP, CHAP, Script based, Terminal Based and PAP/CHAP. I have tried all of them. Nothing works. I have attached the snapshots of the connecting window and the log window as images (connecting.jpg and log.jpg respectively). please see if you can help. mani P.S.: I am running knoppix26 (linux kernel 2.6.9).
  23. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

Hi Kumar, In the phone settings, do we have to anything in addition to setting the baud rate to 115200 ? Should we change the data settings to "Data in" and put the phone in "modem mode" before trying to connect ?
  24. Unable To Install Rconnect On Lg 5130

Hi Kumar, Thanks for your post. I have tried all those basic options. Seems there is some conflict between the driver for my cable and Windows XP. Now I am trying to install the modem in linux. If interested read this thread: Linux Driver for Prolific 2303 mani
  25. Linux Driver For Prolific 2303

Hi Dacodecz, I have downloaded knoppix 3.7 successfully and written a CD. I am able to boot from the CD and can browse both my windows and linux partitions. But I don't know how to configure the modem in knoppix. Is there a help page you can point to ? I tried the modem dialer application in KDE. I added an account and a modem and tried dialling it. Though it said "modem is ready" I could not get connected. I think I missed some ppp options there. mani
