  1. Gaming fans can thank Sony Source We've heard of and used Universal Remotes that work with number television and DVD players. Wouldn't it be great if we had single controller for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii? If you are wishing to use this someday, your wait is going to be over soon, we guess. We say this because Sony has filed a patent for Universal Game Console Controller, reports Gamespot. As per the patent filing at U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the Universal Game Console controller has a touchscreen LCD displaying controls of the supported gaming consoles. Sony is slowly trying to enter the gaming console accessories segment with this fascinating product. A Universal Game Console Controller could be a killer product if it sees the daylight. The patent filing notes that the touch-screen LCD display shows button configuration layouts of the supported game consoles. Upto three different layouts can be saved on the controller. Sony, in the patent filing, says: "This document describes an adaptable or universal game controller which can be used to emulate the controllers of popular game consoles, such as, without limitation, the PlayStation.TM. made by Sony, a controller made by Nintendo, X-box.TM. game controllers made by Microsoft, Amiga CD-32.TM. controllers, Atari Jaguar.TM. controllers, Gravis Gamepad.TM. controllers, Sega controllers, and Turbographics controllers..." Universal Game Console Controller can also be equipped with additional storage, dual-shock feedback and/or speakers. A special receiver would be used to pass the controller data. This patent was filed back two years back and if Sony is working on the same at present, we may get to see it at the E3 Expo in June this year.

  3. Is This True ?

i think it should be the other way.. Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, for it is a 2-way mirror! Source btw that mobile trick is technically correct ??

  6. Science And Technology

Two-seater rocket may fly humans to space by 2011 Washington, Feb 22 (ANI): Spaceflight could soon be opened up to hundreds or potentially thousands of researchers rather than just an elite few, all thanks to the development of a piloted, two-seat suborbital rocket plane called Lynx that could fly humans and experimental payloads to space as early as 2011. According to a report in Nature News, the plane was announced recently at the Next-Generation Suborbital Researchers Conference, which drew more than 250 delegates, including space scientists, aerospace-industry representatives and government officials. Lynx will operate like an aircraft, taking humans and experimental payloads on 30-45-minute suborbital flights up to heights of some 100 kilometres and then returning to the landing strip from which it launched. "I think it's going to shock a lot of people by how transformative it is when access to space becomes like a laboratory instrument, when it becomes something you just go out and do," said Jeff Greason, president of XCOR Aerospace, based in Mojave, California. "The immediacy of being able to do science live from space every day of the week is going to be spectacular," he added. "By the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012, you're going to see spaceports struggling to deal with a flight rate that's completely unprecedented," said Greason. (ANI)
  7. Google Buzz - the new buzz in town!

Google Buzz rejects competition with Facebook or Twitter Google Buzz not meant to challenge Facebook or Twitter, but wants to supplement existing Web services as the executive responsible for Google Buzz told to eWEEK. Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product management at Google, also said he was encouraged by reliance on the service. Millions of Gmail users have created more than 9 million messages and comments. Bradley Horowitz says that Buzz does not “assassinate” Facebook or Twitter, but will facilitate communications across the Web. Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product management at Google, said he was encouraged by incorporating into the service, which also included 200 messages per minute for users to publish content to Buzz Mobile application on their mobile phones. “The way people are using Buzz is exactly as expected and intended,” said Horowitz. “It’s really meaningful interactions around significant issues in Buzz and is reaching the right audience and people are committed. This kind of value proposition is what justifies the existence of Buzz.
  8. India has delayed by two months the introduction of mobile number portability to end-May, the telecoms minister said on Monday. Source : Moneycontrol.com
  9. 3G auction notice in a week: Telecom Ministry “The government will issue notice inviting applications for its long-pending auction of third-generation wireless spectrum in a week," Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja said on Monday. Raja said after the notice issuance, it would take another 40-45 days for the auction to be conducted. The 3G auction had been delayed since January over differences between related ministries, including the Defence Ministry which holds much of the airwaves. The lack of this revenue in this fiscal year ending March 31 will impact India's fiscal deficit, which is at a 16-year high. "I don't think it really particularly matters if (the auction happens) this year or next year," Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar, the country's top bureaucrat said. "I think they will take a decision based on how you (government) will maximise your (government's) revenue." To a question whether the auction would be conducted during the current fiscal year ending in March, Andimuthu Raja said: "I can't assure that." "But NIA (notice inviting applications) will be released this week. Then you can take 40-45 days," he told reporters. Top firms such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Vodafone Essar are expected to bid. Analysts say the older operators need the spectrum as their networks are congested and they need to meet cut-throat competition unleashed by new entrants like Norway's Telenor and Russia's Sistema. India has been signing up 15 million mobile users each month, helped by call rates as cheap as 1 US cent a minute, making it the world's fastest growing market for wireless services. "For older players, it is like the devil and the deep sea," said Mahesh Uppal, director at telecoms consultancy Com First. "If you lower prices to add new customers, you risk messing up your network. If you reject them, you become uncompetitive." "3G is an efficient spectrum. 3G will give them a way to reduce the pressure on their networks." Analysts expect each phone company to spend up to USD 1.5 billion to get pan-India 3G spectrum, while building the high-speed wireless networks would cost billions of dollars more. The auction has been deferred since January on differences with the defence ministry which possesses much of the airwaves, though officials said last week the issues between the related ministries had been resolved. The government has already budgeted 350 billion rupees ($7.6 billion) of revenue for the current fiscal year and the lack of it could widen the fiscal deficit, which is at a 16-year high. Cabinet secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar said last week that it would not matter if the 3G auction happened in this fiscal year or the next, and that setting a date would be done according to how to maximise revenue from the auction.
  10. Nokia N900 Announced

Nokia N900 Faces Charger Issues in the UK Company says this hardware issue can be fixed at its service centre After the Sony Ericsson Satio faced software issues with units in the UK, it's now the turn of Nokia's flagship tablet, the N900. The N900, which is available all over UK through the O2 network, Vodafone and Orange is facing hardware issues with its microUSB charging port. Many consumers are reporting that the phone's microUSB port simply comes apart when they try to disconnect the charger cable post charging. This happens because the prongs that hold the charger port are too tight. Nokia has acknowledged this as a hardware issue and has clarified that this affects only a very limited number of N900s shipped. While stopping short of a product recall, Nokia has said that the issue can be fixed by simply taking the affected phone to a Nokia service centre. It doesn't seem to be rosy for Nokia in the UK of late. Just last month, Nokia's flagship N97 smartphone was removed from its list of UK offerings because of the high return rate.

  12. Google Energy

Google Can Now Buy And Sell Electricity! Thought Google was big enough as it is? Well, it just got bigger – and not on the internets. Google has been granted the right to buy and sell electricity! Yes, electricity. Google formed a subsidiary called Google Energy last December, with the sole purpose of buying and selling electricity in bulk. And now, they’ve just been given the go-ahead by FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). “Right now, we can’t buy affordable, utility-scale, renewable energy in our markets. We want to buy the highest quality, most affordable renewable energy wherever we can and use the green credits,” Google representative Niki Fenwick told CNET News. What does that mean? Well, Google isn’t going to become a power company just as yet, at any rate. Right now, their main concern is to have greater control over their extremely high energy costs for their large number of data centres, and to become carbon neutral. But don’t give up hope of having Google become your power company just as yet. The Google spokesman also told CNET – “We don’t have any concrete plans. We want the ability to buy and sell electricity in case it becomes part of our portfolio.”

  18. RMC cracks down on illegal mobile towers The civic authorities in Chhattisgarh capital have started cracking down on the telecom operators installing mobile service towers without valid permissions. In the last two days, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) had sealed 23 towers that were installed without permission from the authorities. The officials hinted that the action will continue. The authorities have disconnected electricity supply to the towers while those running with generators have been sealed, RMC town planner Sandeep Bagade said. Of the operators who faced the axe included state-run telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) and all major private operators. Sources said that about 350 mobile towers had been installed in Raipur by various mobile service providers. In December last, the RMC had served notices on the companies asking to regularise the 152 towers that were identified as illegally installed. As per the guidelines, the mobile service providers had to take certain clearances from the civic authorities before installing a tower. The RMC is reportedly charging Rs 50,000 fee per tower with all these clearances. Sources added that after receiving the notice, most of the towers were regularised after the companies paid the fee with penalty. Still, more than 50 illegal towers are there in the state capital, sources said, adding that the RMC had launched a special campaign to crack down on these towers.
  19. PMO wants DoT to complete 3G auctions by Mar 31 KOLKATA: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is unhappy with the delay in the multi-billion-dollar 3G spectrum auction. It has asked the Telecom Commission, the apex policy-making wing of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), to take all necessary steps to conclude the auction of 3G airwaves by March 31, 2010. It also wants DoT to ensure that such 3G spectrum is made available to four private service providers in all 22 circles, in addition to the slot reserved for state-owned BSNL and MTNL (only Delhi and Mumbai). “The PMO is unhappy about the uncertainty in the 3G spectrum auction, especially since the nine-member empowered group of ministers (EGoM) headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee has already fixed a definite timeline for concluding allotment of 3G airwaves by September in a specified number of slots per circle. Which is why it has written to DoT to speed up the process and conclude the auction by March 31, 2010, in step with the spectrum auction-cum-allotment timeline approved by EGoM,” a senior government official familiar with the matter told ET.
