In the past 50 years, fishers have exterminated 90 percent of large fish populations. World's Fish Supply Running Out, Researchers Warn ------------------------- Understanding disease and what we can do to preserve health. Disease is a survival mechanism. It is the body’s way of informing us that something is wrong, something needs to be changed. One way of getting rid of the disease is to say, “shut up” to your body rather than listen. This is easily done by taking pain-killers or other symptom suppressing medications. A backache may be a warning that a certain movement will obstruct healing. By taking a painkiller and ignoring that warning, one may end up with a chronic complaint. The best results are obtained when we follow nature rather than oppose it. When we consider the meaning of disease it transforms from being a hindrance, to being a path to personal growth. To follow the path we may have to change something radically. One of the reasons human beings are prone to so many diseases is that we are far removed from our natural state. Often the solution is to revert to this natural state. The most common causes of disease are - 1. Wrong eating habits 2. Stress 3. Environmental conditions (Bacteria, virus and parasites can only infect a weak host and are therefore not the cause but the results of disease). Of all these the easiest to change is our eating habits. A look at our anatomy makes it obvious that we are predominantly herbivorous. Our dentition, our long intestinal tract and our absence of claws are evidence. All carnivores drink by lapping, and herbivores by gulping. We drink by gulping. We are descendents of apes that are predominantly herbivorous but can also eat insects and small animals. During evolution the mind is much quicker to adapt than the body. We have developed new and varied eating habits by means of our mind but our bodies lag behind in adapting to this new diet. The best way to regain health is to revert to our natural diet.[/b] One of the most unnatural, foods in our diet is milk and milk products. Humans are the only animals that drink milk after infancy and that take another animals milk.] Cow’s milk contains 2 times the protein and 3 times the fat of human milk since cows grow to full size much faster than we do. Protein is a growth food. By logic, at no time in our lives should we need more protein as a percentage of our diet than in infancy. Calcium and protein are basic components of each and every living cell in the universe. Its no wonder the cow is able to make protein and calcium rich milk from her diet of grass. Reverting to a 100 % natural diet alone is a cure for diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and many forms of allergies including asthma, constipation, indigestion, arthritis and gout, and other diseases. Just as the herbivorous cow succumbs to BSE (mad cow disease) when fed slaughterhouse by-products, so we too suffer from diseases through eating foods not meant for our species.

It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind. Vegetarian food leaves a deep impression on our nature. If the whole world adopts vegetarianism, it can change the destiny of humankind. Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. So I am living without fats, without meat, without fish, but am feeling quite well this way. It always seems to me that man was not born to be a carnivore. - Albert Einstein it appears from his writings that he was a proponent of vegetarianism for some uncertain number of years but only practiced it himself for the last year of his life.

yes i cannot change the world.. but i can change myself best to the world.. i am responsible for whatever happens around me.. so i have to change myself first.. i will never say "i will change only if the world changes.." Remember more than 80% of your food is already veg and for the remaining non-veg food how much resources is being used.. plants, grains, water, land etc.. using these resources for making veg foods, we can remove hunger from the world, save forest, reduce global warming etc.. --------------------- How Meat-centred Eating Patterns Affect Food Security and the Environment the production of 1 kg wheat costs 1,300 L water the production of 1 kg eggs costs 3,300 L water the production of 1 kg broken rice costs 3,400 L water the production of 1 kg beef costs 15,500 L water Source - Wiki Environmental effects of meat production - Wiki - Read Grazing and land use, Water resources, Effects on aquatic ecosystems, Fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.. Source Qualcomm Inc, the company that provides the popular mobile TV broadcast network – FLO TV, has made enhancements to the technology deployed by it. The upgrade was announced by the Qualcomm at the Mobile World Congress 2010 being held in Barcelona. FLO-EV the evolved version of the existing MediaFLO technology has been developed by Qualcomm. Through the deployment of this enhanced technology Qualcomm would be able to launch its mobile TV service in international market. Furthermore, the FLO-EV technology enables to install the mobile TV operations in a region at an affordable cost. It has been estimated that the costs can be lowered by 30-50% by using FLO-EV technology. It also offers the opportunity to expand the number of TV channels that can be offered. Currently with the use of MediaFlo technology Qualcomm could air its FLO TV mobile TV broadcast in US cities. Mobile TV is emerging as one of the most popular mediums with the increasing usage of the mobile phones across the globe. The competition is on a toll in the mobile TV broadcast domain with new players joining the race and the existing players constantly working upon to offer the services with a difference. Observing this trend Qualcomm is looking forward to retain its stance and has to keep investing in the technology. The FLO-EV technology possess the capability to raise the quality of video delivered, reduce power consumption in devices that receive the TV signals, and allow for rapid channel changing and a 50% increase in channel capacity.

‘Don’t humans have to eat meat to stay healthy?’ Both the US Department of Agriculture and the American Dietetic Association have endorsed vegetarian diets. Studies have also shown that vegetarians have stronger immune systems than meat-eaters and that meat-eaters are almost twice as likely to die of heart disease, 60 percent more likely to die of cancer and 30 percent more likely to die of other diseases. The consumption of meat and dairy products has been conclusively linked with diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, clogged arteries, obesity, asthma and impotence. ‘Isn’t eating meat natural? Hasn’t it been going on for thousands of years? Aren’t our bodies designed to eat meat?’ Actually, human bodies are better suited to a vegetarian diet. Carnivorous animals have long, curved fangs, claws and a short digestive tract. Humans have flat, flexible nails and our so-called ‘canine’ teeth are minuscule compared to those of carnivores and even compared to vegetarian primates like gorillas and orangutans. Our tiny canine teeth are better suited to biting into fruits than tearing through tough hides. We have flat molars and a long digestive tract suited to a diet of vegetables, fruits and grains. Eating meat is hazardous to our health; it contributes to heart disease, cancer and many other health problems. ‘What’s wrong with drinking milk? Don’t dairy cows need to be milked?’ In order for a cow to produce milk, she must have a calf. ‘Dairy cows’ are impregnated every year in order to keep up a steady supply of milk. In the natural order of things, the cow’s calf would drink her milk (eliminating her need to be milked by humans). But dairy cows’ babies are taken away within a day or two of birth so that humans can have the milk nature intended for their calves. Female dairy calves may be slaughtered immediately or raised to be future dairy cows. Male dairy calves may be killed immediately or are confined to tiny veal crates too small for them even to turn around in. The current high demand for dairy products requires that cows be pushed beyond their natural limits, genetically engineered and fed growth hormones in order to produce huge quantities of milk. Even the few farmers who choose not to raise animals intensively must both eliminate the calf (who would otherwise drink the milk) and eventually send the mother off to slaughter or release her into the street after her milk production wanes.

//btw have u seen a lion hunting in wild does he caress its prey when he kills it thats mother nature , coz thats what nature has made him to do // agreed, but i believe mother nature did not create humans to follow the same... //what we humans shud do , is not torture animals in machines , but thats not going to happen , this is industrial world where money matters most // the only way to stop torture is to stop using products coming out of tortures.. where there is a will there is a way.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ‘Animals kill other animals for food, so why shouldn’t we?’ Most of the animals who kill for food could not survive if they didn’t. That is not the case for us. We are better off not eating meat. Many other animals are vegetarians, including some of our closest primate relatives. Why don’t we look to them as our example instead of to carnivores? ‘The animals have to die sometime, don’t they?’ Humans do, too, but that doesn’t give you the right to kill them or to cause them a lifetime of suffering. ‘Vegetarianism is a personal choice, isn’t it? Why are you trying to force it on everyone else?’ From a moral standpoint, actions that harm others are not matters of personal choice. Murder, child abuse and cruelty to animals are all immoral. Our society now encourages meat-eating and the cruelties of factory farming, but history teaches that society also once encouraged slavery, child labour and many other practices now universally recognised as wrong. ‘What will we do with all those chickens, cows and pigs if everyone becomes a vegetarian?’ It’s unrealistic to expect that everyone will stop eating animals overnight. As the demand for meat decreases, the number of animals bred will decrease. Farmers will stop breeding so many animals and will turn to other types of agriculture. When there are fewer of these animals, they will be able to live more natural lives. ‘If everyone switches to vegetables and grains, will there be enough to eat?’ Yes. We feed so much grain to animals in order to fatten them up for consumption that if we all became vegetarians, we could produce enough food to feed the entire world. In the US, for example, animals are fed more than 80 percent of the corn the US grows and more than 95 percent of the oats. The world's cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people—more than the entire human population on Earth. ‘Don’t vegetarians have difficulty getting enough protein?’ The problem is the possibility of getting too much protein, not too little. Most meat-eaters get about seven times as much protein as they need! Vegetarians can get enough protein from whole wheat bread, potatoes, beans, corn, peas, mushrooms or broccoli—almost every food contains protein. Unless you eat a great deal of junk food, it's almost impossible to eat as many calories as we need for good health without getting enough protein. By contrast, too much protein is the major cause of osteoporosis and contributes to kidney failure and other diseases of affluence.

a vegetarian diet is still preferable to a meat-based one, since the vast majority of grains and pulses raised today are used as feed for cattle. By eating vegetables directly, rather than eating animals such as cows who must consume 16 kilos of vegetation in order to convert them into 1 kilo of flesh, one is saving many more plants' lives (and destroying less land). It is impossible to live your life without causing some harm; we’ve all accidentally stepped on ants or breathed in gnats, but that doesn’t mean we should intentionally cause unnecessary harm. Just because you might accidentally hit someone with your car is no reason to run someone over on purpose.

why cant we take it this way.. nature did not want us to feel the pain of killing plants, fruits and vegetables, so they were created without mouth, eyes etc.. but i believe in any destruction of life beyond the need of ones survival is violence.. be it plants/trees.. Also one who consumes non-veg is indirectly depending on plants.. plants->animals->human i directly depend on plant based food.. this way i can reduce cruelty to plants too..

Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
savramesh replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
DoT still to decide on 3G auction; finance ministry says way clear With differences between the Union law and finance ministries now over on the thorny issue of auctions for 3G spectrum, it is now for the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to decide on the schedule. However, while its top officials met to discuss the next course of action and whether the auctions can be done before this financial year concludes on March 31, it appears DoT still needs time. A Raja, the minister, continued to say he is still waiting for advice from the finance and law ministries. And, a senior official who attended the internal meeting said it would take a few days more for a final decision. This, when Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla both said it was now for DoT to move. Chandrasekhar was also directly chairing the high-level committee to monitor vacation of spectrum by the defence forces. Asked whether there was a pressing need to complete the auction by March 31, he said: "I don't think it particularly matters if it happens this year or the next year...they (DoT and the finance ministry) will take the decision, based on how the revenue can be maximised." Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had factored in expected revenue of Rs 35,000 crore in the current year’s Budget from the 3G auction. The hope is to use the proceeds to partly cut the huge fiscal deficit, estimated to touch 6.8 per cent of gross domestic product in 2009-10. The auction was scheduled for January 14 and then got delayed because of unavailability of enough spectrum and differences over the number of slots to be auctioned. DoT has currently enough spectrum to auction two slots. The third slot would be available by September and the fourth by 2013, in each of the 23 telecom circles. The Finance ministry had cleared the decks for the auction before the end of this financial year, by assuring the law ministry that it would ensure all successful bidders the availability of spectrum by September 1, instead of selectively releasing spectrum depending on availability. The law ministry had said auctioning slots without the spectrum in hand could cause legal problems. Successful bidders, it had warned, could demand compensation on investments they make to roll out service if they do not receive spectrum on time. The law ministry has since also accepted the finance ministry’s suggestion of deleting a clause in the draft agreement that provided for a full refund, plus interest, if spectrum was not allotted to successful bidders by December 31. -

The polling options are accurate.. Thanks SRK for explanation.. Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind. i think i am the only vegan here..
