  8. Ipl Live On Youtube

Source In yet another audacious move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has signed a two-year exclusive deal with Internet giant Google for live streaming of the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches across the world. The matches will be telecast on its popular user-generated content platform, YouTube. This is the first time a sporting event will be telecast live on the Internet. Besides the live videos, YouTube users will have the option to see the matches the way they want through features such as the ability to choose one's own camera positions, freezing or fast forwarding the stream, access to an archive function that allows the replay of past shots and also, a feature called Fan Feed that will give them access to entertainment around the event. "The basic structure of the relationship is that we will place IPL live matches in this season and the next on YouTube," said Shailesh Rao, managing director, Google India. "We will also make available on-demand broadcast, clipping, videos and so on. We will do all of this on a global basis so that users from around the world can enjoy cricket," he said in an announcement made in Mumbai today.
  9. Source KOLKATA: The country's largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), which was among the first government banks to launch mobile banking services, claims to have developed the technology to support low-end /entry level mobile handsets for banking transactions. SBI's deputy managing director (IT) A Krishnakumar, said. SBI is working with its service provider, Spanco Telesystems, towards this. Till recently, only SBI customers with smartphones had access to the facility. SBI's decision to stress on alternate banking channels comes at a time when Reserve Bank of India (RBI) raised the ceiling on mobile banking transactions to Rs 50,000 per day from Rs 5,000 a day. "About 25% of banking transactions at SBI now happen using alternate channels like ATMs, internet/mobile banking and the ratio will rise further," Mr Krishnakumar said. He also indicated that SBI had teamed up with IBM for building a data-mining system for effective use of customer-centric information. "We have already launched the project," Mr Krishnakumar said here on Wednesday, on the sidelines of an IT event in the city. "Earlier, we faced difficulty in offering mobile banking facilities to our customers with low-end handsets. But now we have overcome this. We specifically asked Spanco to develop solutions for any new handsets that hit the market cutting across the price range." By using the mobile banking facility, SBI customers will be able to transfer funds using NEFT, check their account balance, get mini statements, place cheque book requests, pay utility bills and even insurance premium. SBI, however, did not share any numbers relating to its mobile banking customers, but the official indicated that the number is on the rise in the metros and urban centres. "We are adding thousands of mobile banking customers every day," he said. Recently, a leading service provider said more than 50% of its account holders are slated to come under this platform in the next five years, following the RBI's move. The country's mobile connections are expected to breach the 50-crore mark by 2010.

  11. Source Opera range of mobile browsers are the most visible set of apps amongst Indian mobile subscribers so much so that even some Indian telcos officially endorses its products. Today Opera announced that it has acquired Admarvel, a company providing solutions in mobile advertising space. The acquisition despite being small at $ 8 Million will provide Opera a way to monetize its mobile browsers – Opera mini and Opera mobile. Opera has been able to garner consistent share in mobile browser segment despite lackluster performance on desktop browser front. Admarvel’s product offering allows mobile Ad publishers to target users on the basis of countries, devices and carriers. Admarvel is a very interesting proposition for mobile publishers because they can easily target smart phone users more aggressively at the same time neglect small handset owners so as to avoid any ire. Opera in recent time has ventured into tie-ups with telcos across the globe. This acquisition could thus help it to serve its telecom partners by providing analytical & user targeting services directly . Google,a few months ago acquired Admob whereas Apple just gobbled up Quattro Wireless, another mobile advertising company. Mobile internet advertising spend at the same time is forecasted to touch $2 billion worldwide by 2014. This unprecedented global rise in mobile advertising segment has already attracted companies like iVdopia, creating niche in app advertising segment – predicted to be major receiver of mobile ad spending as handset makers facilitates higher app usages to corner market share.
