Yes, skype for windows mobile can very well be used on this phone, however, it works great with wi-fi and so-so with the wireless modem (Rconnect). As for push email, I never got the chance to use it here in India, but in US it works like charm. -
Reliance Comm, Hutch To Offer Blackberry Services
basant_jp replied to basant_jp's topic in Reliance Communications
No...it's a paid service, and is included by UTStarcom for this phone as bundled software...If I remember correctly, the client on this phone is from Good Technology (http://www.good.com/corp/index.php). -

Blackberry does support existing POP/IMAP email accounts, however to be able to use the push email support with POP/IMAP, you have to forward the account to default blackberry email account (although it won't be true push email as it synchronizes every 15 minutes). Though I agree with you, other then email, there is just nothing appealing in Blackberries (atleast to me). Infact, I am pleasantly surprised with the push email client provided with the UTStracom PPC 6700, it works brilliantly and equally good as RIM's blackberry. -

It is well known that Blackberry has CDMA phones too, Swaroop specifically asked about Blackberry Pearl (a new model from RIM), which does not seems to be available in CDMA so far... -

Guys...I tried to find out this handset in Delhi, but no luck so far. I contacted the Customer care and as usual, they just said it is available in Delhi, but nobody knows....where?? I was also told that as per the details available, it is only for the enterprise customers...When I asked for who qualifies as 'Enterprise Customer' or what's the definition of the same, they were dumb as always. Anyway, does anyone of you who know actually qualifies for Enterprise Customer in case of Reliance? -
Price is 33k. It is already being discussed here. http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?showtopic=7926&hl=

Moreover the handset supports Ev-DO...so whenever the 3G service is started by Reliance, it will be a fancy (and useful) addition to its feature... and reason for GSM users' envy -

News published in Dainik Bhaskar yesterday...Hope there is some truth in it. -
Below is what Airtel website says (http://www.airtelworld.com/datacard/faqs.htm). I even checked with the Airtel CC, they do not have any specific information on EDGE availability, all they told me is that EDGE/GPRS is available all over India, which I am sure is not right. Anyway, this list may be outdated, so it is better to check locally for the availability. Hutch has also mentioned a list of 43 cities/areas where EDGE is currently available. The link can be accessed at http://hutch.in/PlanetHutch/PlanetHutch_services_edge.asp Are you referring to Airtel data card or the Airtel broadband? Whatever, as I said, your experience may be different than mine. Cheers!

Guys..let me share my experiecne with the data cards. I have been using Reliance data card (Sierra) for more than 18 months now. I have also used Airtel, Hutch and Tata data cards (not actually bought them, but yes, did use them for a good period of time). Here's is what my experience was with all these cards (cost and tariff details as per the provider's website) - Airtel Data Card Cost of card - Rs 6099 Best tariff plan - Rs 999 for unlimited use (include 100 free SMS) Good - Can roam internationally My experience - I used Airtel data card for about two week in different parts of Delhi (mostly east and south Delhi). I got download speeds ranging between 10 and 14 KBs at all places. I also used this card in Jaipur once but there were no EDGE data available at that time, hence it was pathetic. This is the problem with Airtel, EDGE connectivity is available only in select cities, I guess some 15 cities. So if at all you plan to go for Airtel data card, make sure with the provider that EDGE data is available (though my presumption is that the card won't be available in a city where EDGE data is not available). Hutch Data Card Cost of card - Rs 5999 Best tariff plan - Rs 699 for upto 1 GB use, 5p/10 KB thereafter Good - Can roam internationally My experience - I have used Hutch data card several times. Speeds were better than Airtel to some extent, average download speeds ranging between 10 and 15 KBps. I used this card in Jaipur, Lucknow and Hyderabad as well and I got the same speeds. This is one good thing with Hutch that availaility of EDGE data is far better than Airtel. As per my knowledge, it is available is as many as 50 cities. However, same goes with Hutch, confirm EDGE data availaility in your city/area before going for it. Tata Data Card Cost of card - Not given on website Best tariff plan - Rs 700 for upto 1 GB use Bad - Can't roam internationally My experience - I used Tata data card in Jaipur for a few days. The speeds I got were between 5 and 14 KBps. I was not impressed with the Tata card as the speeds were quite fluctuating when compared with the EDGE data cards. These cards are RUIM(TSIM) enabled so you can subscribe to the data plan on your existing tata connection (if your handset is TSIM enabled) and can use the same TSIM in data card (or vice versa). Reliance Data Card Cost of card - Rs 4900 Best tariff plan - Rs 1500 for unlimited use, Rs 650 for upto 1 GB use (include 100 free SMS) Bad - Can't roam internationally My experience - I have been using Reliance data card for a pretty long time now, and I must say that I am quite satisfied. I constantly get 14-18 KBps download speeds in Delhi, even while roaming I get almost the same speeds. Since I have tried all the data cards, I feel Sierra (Not sure about ZTE) card is the best, it is stable and provides consistent speeds. Availability of the same CDMA 1x network throughout the country is one very good thing with CDMA operators. That means you can use the data card at any place where Reliance network is available, and you will get more or less the same speeds that you get in a big city. PS : While reading my experience with data cards, please bear in mind that other than the hardware, the connection speeds largely depends on the technology and the network strength in that area. I am not a harcore Reliance fan, it is just that I found Reliance data card the best after trying all other available data cards. Your experience with them may differ. Cheers! Basant

When I say 3 lines, I do not mean three physical wires going through , but what I mean is 'three different channels'. DSL technology splits the normal copper line into three information channels. One carries data from the Internet to the computer, another channel transports data from the computer to the Internet and the third channel handles regular phone calls. "Splitter" attached to the line assigns voice and data transmissions to different frequencies (as rightly said by linuxguy). Digital bits travel on the inaudible frequencies of the phone line. That keeps them separate, and that's why all the signals - voice and data - can work in parallel without colliding with each another. This is the reason that in most cases either of the service works even in case of faults...of course, it largely depends on the type of fault. I used the words '3 lines' just to make it more obvious and easier to understand. Cheers!
-
Not really...unless someone cuts the cable completely. Cable consists of three different lines, one each for telephone, broadband and iPtv....so unless the cable is cut completely, fault mostly occurs in one of the three lines, not all of them at one go. Those having DSL broadband must have seen their BB running even when the Telephone line is dead, or the vice versa...

I visited the Exhibition yesterday. Lots of good stuff but was not as good as the Mobile Expo last year. Okay, I am writing about some of the cool stuff I noticed at the Exhibition. Major exhibitors include Nokia, LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, T9, Haier, UTStarcom, Imate, ZTE, Yulong, Airtel and Reliance. Right at the entrance, I came across huge pavilions of Nokia and LG, and I moved in to LG pavilion first. LG guys have really displayed their handsets well, working handsets were available to try your hands on, though there were no clear demarcation of handsets 'to be made available in India'. They had displayed some pretty neat CDMA handsets. Chocalate series handsets were an attraction. Then I went to the Nokia pavilion. They have highlighted N series handsets only in this exhibition. Among all, N95 was the one I truly liked, not that others were not good, just because I had not N95 before. Anyway, there were hardly any others models, Nokia 6265 in black was the only CDMA phone displayed there. Overall, nothing that you have not seen before. Motorola pavilion is worth mentioning. Expecially because in the last year's Mobile Expo, Motorola's were the worst pavilion with only V3 in display. This time, it was one of the best pavilion and spread hugely in the center most part. They had V3i, L6, L7, PEBL, MotoFlip, V3i D&G, Moto Krazer and some others on display. Samsung pavilion was okay kind of, mostly the new thin series handsets were in display. Only thing is that you don't find them very different, they all look like same... Apart from these handsets, just like the past, they have also displayed the 5 MP camera phone with optical zoom, 8 MP and 10 MP camera phones. Sony Ericsson pavilion displayed P990i and a few more Wlakman series phones. No futuristic models were displayed, all models were the ones currently available here. It was the most boring and hopeless pavilion. My opinion on Some of the interesting models and things in this exhibition 1. 2 handsets I liked the most - LG LX550 - Chocalate series handset, available for CDMA (Korea) and WCDMA/GSM (Europe) networks. This phone has very good looks, had very interesting, unique and super fast UI, excellant color display and dual camer (2 mega pixel main camera and VGA front camera, though the front camera is hardly visible). Picture and video quality seemed excellent on the handset. Check out the pic- Nokia N95 - It needs no description. 5.2 MP camera with DVD quality video recording. Double slider, slides up and down, both. Dedicated buttons for music playback, which can be accessed by sliding down. Looks a bit bulky but it is to be expected with the big display and 5 MP camera. 2. Most innovative product - Motorola is the best with innovations. 'Bluetooth Wireless Gateway' was the product which I liked a lot. It is a small device which can route your music to any sound system through Bluetooth (if your phone/laptop/PC support stereo bluetooth). Imagine, listening to all your music saved in the phone on a high-fi system, and that too without wires. One can also connect a tv or music system to this device and can then listen to them on the Bluetooth stereo headset... I was amazed at how beautifully it worked! I am gonna buy it for sure. It is priced at 3990/- and if you buy it at the exhibition, you get 15% discount. Actually, this discount is valid on anything that you buy at exhibition. The other amazing product that I saw was a Bluetooth Jacket...yes, a bluetooth enabled jacket! Again, by Motorola. It is a fantastic looking jacket with in-built speakers on the collars through which you can listen to music from your cell-phone. It has a dedicated control panel on the left hand arm through which all the features of the jacket can be accessed. Among others, It also has an Ipod connector built-in, so that you can connect your Ipod to listen to it through the in-built spekers. I put on the jacket and it felt like some James bond kind of stuff...Simply awesome. I would have bought it then and there itself, but sadly, it is not available in India yet. I have a few pics of the jacket, but not now. Will post them as soon as I have them. Check out some other pics from the exhibition -
