Indicom brand is not fully extinct yet. It is still available in Delhi. What is the reason? -
TATA Teleservices Rebranding: TATA Indicom Users To Be Migrated To TATA Docomo Brand; CDMA Network Upgrades

Makes little difference to me unless high speed CDMA data net is made healthy and this covers my city. -
^ Send me that. I want to try it out.

^ Rajan ji, the issue is well-settled at the world level. The fastest and the most accurate typing is possible only with swype. The world record set by a swyper is getting broken by another swyper only. See this: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/01/quadriplegic-new-guinness-world-record-swype/ Guinness set the challenge phrase: “The razor- toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” Many full sized physical keyboards will pose big problems to type this. And you have rightly pointed out that typing with swype is effortless. I'll not compare non-swype virtual qwerty with physical qwerty. Physical qwerty is nowhere near swype in respect of ease, accuracy and speed. I'm writing this post with swype with ease flawlessly.
-
^ It simply a personal choice. I love swype, the virtual qwerty. I tried physical qwerty on BB Torch and found it too cumbersome. It's so slow compared to swype's speed and accuracy with which I can type. Also repetitive key-press is energy-consuming and can lead to Carpal Tunnel syndrome which cannot happen with swype.

National Telecom Policy 2011 - No More Roaming Charges!

I was about to post the news flash, Sumit was faster. It's the best news my ears could listen. I'm so happy. Feel like dancing. Now the after-effect should be porting to pan-India....... -
Feeling sad.....

@arnuld, I think you'd love virtual keypad on capacitive touch screen if you test good handset. Swype is the best. It's much faster compared to qwerty. But for having nice experience you have to have a not-so-cheap handset. You'll be needed to use both hands to type with swype.

MTS Launches EVDO Data Plans For Mobile Customers
sougatadc replied to avishekghosh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
@Rudradeep, thanks. @Abhishek (mail_abhiks), don't you consider Sodepur in Kolkata? Tata's signal falters there frequently. Also the coverage deteriorated like anything along the Haora-Santiniketan railway line. West Bengal is the only state where Tata is continuing to provide EVDO in a single city, that too in its capital, a metro city. I don't understand their business strategy. Aren't there sufficient prospective EVDO subscribers in Bardhaman, Durgapur, Asansol or Siliguri? Anyways, this is becoming off-topic. -
MTS Launches EVDO Data Plans For Mobile Customers

Dear Santanu, I didn't know that the TataZone wap packs work on EVDO. But in any case these are useless on the handsets we are using as these cannot support google products. In India, we are happily living with a dichotomy: on voice front, we are having the lowest tariff and on data front, the tariff is high along with low speed, low coverage of high speed data. And there are FUP, NUC blah..blah... When I subscribed BSNL's EVDO the speed was superb, but now it has dropped, but I'm using it as it is the only truely unlimited EVDO that costs me only Rs. 272/month. The operators can take the data users for granted only because the number of users are low and are not organised. -

^^^ Dear Saket The thread you referred above was initiated by me. The Rs. 43/ Rs. 94 packs for 2GB/5GB are wap packs only. They are not at all EVDO (HSIA) packs. On 1X, these packs can give full html support on Windows mobile, but on androids these don't support google products- no gmail, no google maps, no market etc. So these packs are not at all comparable with the one MTS is offering for Rs. 97.99. -

^^^ Okay, dear Santanu, I'll think well before taking the decision. Now I'm with Tata only for its cheapest on-net tariff. I've written a mail today to Tata Indicom's MD's desk requesting them to think over introducing cheaper EVDO. Moreover, EVDO on Tata is absent altogether in Rest of WB circle. I don't know whether my mail will create any impact or not. Previously, Tata used to give much importance to opinions if mailed directly to them. -

Is is so? I didn't know. On what count it is better? ZTE is a worldwide accepted brand and Micromax is only a rebranded Chinese product. Anyways, I'm getting quite good speed, see the result of today: In fact, I've seriously started thinking about ending my tryst with Tata Indicom. I've quite a good number of relatives, friends and colleagues who are using Tata network. By using Tata2Tata unlimited local pack and 25hrs STD pack I save at around Rs. 2500/month. But MTS's data pack has compelled me to think otherwise. What if I port out to MTS? The voice tariff is also quite cheap with 1p/2sec local calls @ Rs. 95/year. And the data pack is simply the best. No NUC lilke Reliance. I don't know how many Reliance EVDO enabled handset owners here really use mobile data packs on their handsets. With NUC so high (it makes EVDO even costlier with higher data speed compared to 1X), aren't everybody just cramped to use internet over wifi only? -
End of an era that shook the world. iSad.....

I must thank Avishek a lot for apprising about this fantastic launch. I bought an OMH RUIM, and then activated it with HSD. The guys here at my place were not ready to recharge my number with Rs. 97.99. Avishek took all the pain to recharge my new number from his place. I'm now having this EVDO of MTS - 2GB for a month for only Rs. 97.99 I'm writing this post with this connection. Below is the speedtest result. -
