  1. ^^^ The same handset is available at a discounted price of Rs. 12,999 at Dealsupto The specs described in different sites are confusing though. Some say its processor is of 800MHz (in the same page it is shown as 1GHz!). And the OS is froyo (not gingerbread).
  2. Help Wanted To Buy A New Netbook

^^^ msi is a quarter century old MNC involved in designing and making Mainboard, Graphics card, Notebook, Netbook, Tablet PC, Consumer electronics, Communication among other things. A good brand. Rajan ji's suggestion is good, you are getting better processor at a little more price.
  3. Thanks Pranav for your suggestion. I changed to Google DNS and now letsbuy is opening. +1 for you. It's germane to say here that I just purchased hTc Wildfire from Letsbuy after the fix.
  4. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

My earlier Samsung bluetooth headset WEP200 failed to get recognised on my Fascinate, and it feels clumsy to use Jabra stereophonic headset BT3030 always. So I went for Samsung HM1100. It is a bit larger compared to WEP200 but much better. It has noise reduction, only Rs. 900, light weight, and very good battery life (14 hrs of talktime and 330 hrs of standby). Best part of it is that it connects two phones simultaneously (Multipoint Technology). I connected Fascinate and hTc Wildfire at the same time. It worked flawlessly. Members using more than one phone can go for this. This is a nice option.
  5. MTS Mbonus for Prepaid

^^^ Avisekh Ghosh please provide the details of it.
  6. Common Charger Goes For A Toss

^^^ Yes, this being almost a standard now for data/charging, the batteries need to be standard also. Just like 4.5-Volt, D, C, AA, AAA, AAAA, A23, 9-Volt, CR2032 and LR44 batteries mobile batteries should also be of standard shape and size, with same connector specification and location. The capacity may vary with brand/quality. This will immensely help mobile phone users.
  7. Each and every website is opening sans the letsbuy.com site. So, what can I say Rajan ji? I'm now at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Till yesterday noon, it was opening without any difficulty.
  8. Tata Indicom's customer care has deteriorated a lot. Earlier I used to call them and lodged any complaint/request and the same used to be attended very quickly. If I wrote an e-mail, it was used to be given top-most priority. But recently my experience is somewhat different. If I call 121 to say the quality of calls have fallen very low along with the railway lines from Bolpur to Howrah, they say that it is a handset problem. My friend called 121 to lodge the same complaint, but she was asked what handset she was using. When she told them it was LG Cookie 510, they gave her the LG service station number and asked her to have her handset checked from there. This is totally an evasive exercise and really exasperating. With new and good quality handsets, we are hardly ready to see this type of unwarranted suggestions. Tata Indicom should stop all these nonsenses.
  9. On SMS packs, there should not be any roaming restriction. TataIndicom doesn't charge anything extra if SMS is sent while roaming.
  10. Thank you Himanshu for your feedback. Every BSNL subscriber will get benefited by this. Really a great move by BSNL. This is a rare case where BSNL is pioneering something. I'm sure, this will be copied by other operators also. Still on the new STV table on BSNL's official site, it shows that Rs. 50 will allow on-net local+STD @ 10p/min while Rs. 65 will allow only on-net local calls @ 10p/min. I wonder, who will go for the Rs. 65 STV then?
  11. iPad Alternatives

Huawei Unveils MediaPad: world's first 7-inch Android 3.2 tablet, dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU Huawei just introduced a downright luscious new slate over in Singapore, with CommunicAsia being the launchpad for the 7-inch MediaPad. It's the first high-profile 7-inch tablet we've seen in quite some time, and somehow or another, it's managed to leapfrog most of the currently shipping Honeycomb tablets with a build of Android we've only ever joked about. Huawei tells us that Honeycomb 3.2 is essentially the same as 3.1, but specifically tailored to 7-inch tablets as opposed to 10-inch. Packed within the MediaPad's 10.5mm shell, there's a 217 pixels-per-inch IPS capacitive touchpanel, GPS, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 802.11n WiFi, a battery good for around six hours of life and a bona fide racehorse as a processor: a dual-core 1.2GHz chip from Qualcomm. If all goes well, it'll ship in the United States in Q3 2011. It's a fair bit chunkier than the newfangled Galaxy Tab 10.1 (8.6mm), but still slimmer than the original Tab, which clocked in at 11.98mm. It weighs in at 390g (0.86 pounds), supports full 1080p playback, includes HSPA+ (14.4Mbps) 3G support, offers 8GB of internal storage (as well as a microSD slot) and comes pre-loaded with Facebook, Twitter, Let's Golf and Documents To Go. There's also a Bluetooth module, an HDMI output for catching those high-def flicks on the go, and the Flash 10.3 player ensures that those websites won't be a problem. Unfortunately, the company's left a great deal to the imagination -- like pricing, which is being "sorted with retail partners and providers" -- and all we've got for system RAM is a promise that it's "working with partners on specifics." Oddly enough, the company has "no current plans" to produce a WiFi-only model, which definitely puts a damper on those who aren't interested in ponying for carrier data. You can bet we'll be digging for more, but even with the surrounding mystery, calling us "excited" would be a severe understatement. Source: Engadget
  12. ^^^ I'm not going to visit any place out of Mumbai this time. And I'm not returning by train. So no recharging of Rs. 12 STV for time being and thus no feedback. Himanshu may post his feedback here, he has already have this recharge on 28th June.
  13. Happy Doctor's Day !

Best wishes from me too to all the Doctors on our forum and elsewhere.
  14. I was caught on the wrong foot. Considering Rajan ji's first post, I thought it was an offer similar to that of MTS or AirTel/Aircel. This 'offer' is avoidable, I think now.
  15. As Rs. 12 offer is not pan-India (it will not work in MTNL areas) and as I'm going to stay for the next few days in Mumbai only, it is useless for me this time. I'll recharge the next time I set out to roam. By that time the hiccups for new STV recharges will not be there, I hope
  16. Android on iPhone!

One stop guide along with user manual, FAQ, developers guide are available at idroidproject. This site provides latest iDroid software also. But as far as I know, Android works well on iPhone 2G and ipad but on 3G GPU support is not there although it runs fine. On iPhone 4, it is still under process.
  17. Beginners Guide To Android

While a call is on, tap on 'Add Call' button which allows Call Conferencing. This will put the current call on hold and will bring the initial dialling screen which has 'Call Log' tab. From that tab you can use the desired number. If you do not want to use any number from the call log to make conference call, you will need to return your original call to release the hold.
  18. Thanks Kanaga ji for the update. Let me see. I'll ask somebody to do that. Don't know whether it will get through here at Mumbai or not. Let me hope for the best.
  19. Excellent offer. After MTS (hTc Hero), Aircel & Vodafone (iPhone 4), Reliance has come up with this lucrative offer. High end phone with best possible use of data/video calls/SMS/voice calls. Tata is now way behind. I wonder when will they wake up.
  20. ^^^ Still failing in Rest of West Bengal circle. I missed the Rs. 12 recharge for free roaming incoming. I'm now roaming and will be roaming for the next 11 days.
  21. Help Wanted To Buy A New Netbook

No need to be disappointed, my friend if you are looking for Dell netbook only. Dell do offers netbooks in the series Inspiron Mini with 10" screen and Atom processor. Search it in ebay/letsbuy.
  22. Lets Ask Arun

Thanks Kamal ji for the information. Arun ji sent PM that day. Please add my city name 'Bolpur' in the drop-down list.
  23. ^^^ My dear Kanaga, I confirmed from the BSNL officer dealing with mobiles that no fresh STV is working as of now, not even on new connections. May be it will take some more time. There seems to be an inherent problem of planning. There are now two vouchers of Rs. 50, one for voice and another is for data. But easy recharge syntax does not provide segregation any recharge as voice or data. There are only two options: one is for recharge another is for top-up. To make it foolproof, BSNL should make any one of the two recharges as Rs. 51 (There is already a recharge of Rs. 49). BSNL should have made some dry-run of the STV recharge software before officially launching them. I'm leaving for Mumbai tomorrow, but cannot use the Rs. 12 recharge which would allow me unlimited free incoming on roaming for a fortnight :'(
  24. 5.7 Day Battery Life On Samsung Fascinate

Using applications (WiFi/Bluetooth/EVDO/1X) only when necessary surely helps in conserving energy. Disabling following applications also helps: Live wallpaper Screen auto-rotate Vibration with ringing Background data/Auto-sync Rajan ji, I've read that Li-ion/polymer batteries don't have memory effect. Did you experience any memory effect? You kept the phone switched off while charging and got better result. If all the applications are killed with say Advanced Task Manager, will not it yield same result? Battery life gets badly affected in low signal area. You must have spent the time in strong signal places. I experience rapid draining of battery of my Fascinate while traveling as it has to search for signal frequently. Extended batteries of upto 3500mAh are available on ebay for Fascinate but those require bulging back cover, the phone becomes ugly and heavy. Best option is to go for Seidio Innocell 1600mAh battery which although of better capacity (1600mAh) but fits in OEM back cover. It is available here in ebay.in but costly (Rs. 3622)
