Apple Declares War – Slashes iPhone 3GS Price By Rs.15,000
sougatadc replied to nitink's topic in Other handsets
^ What is the harm in swapping, when hot-swapping is allowed? In fact hot-swapping is meant for that only. If we are not swapping any card on the go, then we are not using a particular facility of the gadget itself -
Arun ji, recently I'm finding the number of posts in my profile description is getting increased erratically or not getting increased at all after I'm posting a new post. In some cases, after 3/4 posts the number of posts gets one increase only. Please look into the matter.

I know Rajan ji you are clear in your views. I didn't mean that your indications were bad. However, personally I like the name Bharat. I don't know how you say there is belief of fascism and profanation in the word 'Bharat'. Who spread this idea? I never heard this. The Japanese call their country 'Nippon'. Is there any fascism in that? I didn't understand why and how the word 'Hindustan' is so bad if it is a derivative of Indus, a land east of Indus or Sindhu, as Dipan has explained. Only if it sounds to contain a particular religion's name, it cannot be 'insane', Rajan ji. Can you call the newspapers 'The Hindu' or 'Hindustan Times' as insane or dangerous?

Life was much simpler when apple and blackberry were fruits only ... -
^ Yes, that's it. So, while it is there in the constitution itself, why on Earth they couldn't answer a simple RTI question? No need to go to the Court for this. The answer is simple and clear.

Dipan, correct you are. I know 'Hindusthan' is nothing to do with Hindus only. I wanted to know why Rajan ji opined India, Bharat & Hindustan sound different, not conveying the same meaning/interpretation.

^^^ In today's scenario, if we consider ourselves patriotic enough, we will see our 'Bharat' as a nation united from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Nagaland. But India internationally is different as many countries are showing India's map differently. Some are excluding the Akshai-China and POK and some other are excluding Arunachal Pradesh. I recall Encyclopædia Britannica used to feature India's map without full Kashmir and Indian Govt. made it mandatory to stamp on the first page of the volume 'I' a sentence "The map of India shown in this volume is not correct". How many mouths can be shut in this way? Rajan ji, is the name 'Hindusthan' a bit blasphemous?

^ I was about to point it out. Many of the friends here in our forum are not finding the actual city name where they reside. Arun ji, our city database can otherwise include names of smaller cities from drop-down lists like this website or bank location search page of SBI. In that case many smaller cities will get featured. There may be a field to point the latitude/longitude of the place. Mine is N23°39'57.84", E87°40'44.49".

^ I agree with Karthik's view. Can Apple bring down price of iPhone 4 to wage a real war vis-à-vis myriad very high-end android handsets being launched quite frequently? -
Arun ji can you please arrange for improving the "City Name" database field?

I've stopped dreaming on Tata's EVDO at our place. I know they'll not launch it here in near future. I wonder what kind of business they are in! On the other hand, MTS being much younger in the field has started offering EVDO at our place.

Why both of them are vying for cheap phones as a gift to the better half? This is not fair -
Excellent find... thanks a lot. Used it for recharging 3 mobiles.

Vodafone Drops Defamation Case Against Man Who Talks Too Much

Rajan ji's call is a serious one. Still I want to confirm whether a user like me is eligible to vote or not. Will I be considered as an outsider if I vote and will my vote be cancelled on that count? I want to draw attention of Rajan ji to the fact that there are some non-RCDMA subscribers like me also who are here in this beloved forum to get enriched. Relevantly I recall our silent movement that recently shook the juggernaut of Anandabazar Patrika, the largest circulated Bangla daily from Kolkata. Our relentless campaign on a forum made them to succumb to the increasing pressure and they finally started to use unicode Bangla for the web version. On 1st June, 2011 they finally left the outdated system of dynamic fonts of Beatstream and has accepted modern universal unicode fonts. It's now browser and font independent. Also, saving a page and copying a portion or making a pdf are all now possible. Earlier it would generate junks. Voting for a cause is something I'm always ready. I didn't vote only because I'm non-RCMA. -

Vodafone Drops Defamation Case Against Man Who Talks Too Much

I got this news on my subscribed news thread from Mumbai Mirror in the morning today. I do agree that people have immense power in doing something which is considered otherwise impossible, if the people's power is modulated properly. In this case social networking site facebook provided the proper platform. Remember similar but much more powerful movement in Egypt which was mooted by a young facebooker (a girl of sub-thirty) giving an open call to everybody to the gather at the Tahrir Square. Eventually the peaceful uprising that transfixed the world could topple Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak who ruled for almost 30 years. The movement took space of only 18 days in January and February this year to do the impossible. I consider Dhaval Valia's effort against Vodafore is a ripple effect of the Egypt chapter. -
With iPhone4 refusing to be activated for EVDO or even 1X by our gurus, a considerable amount of hype was robbed off from it. I don't consider the phenomenon as a 'lull before the storm' as there isn't any such handset in the market yet which can just wipe off Epic or Fascinate right now.

TATA Indicom Launches ‘SMS Express’ Offer For Prepaid Customers

^^^ Then sending of long messages would be a difficulty. I've seen split portions of a long message not reaching the destination. And sometimes it gets difficult to make up the actual message from the concatenated parts of it. Often portions don't get delivered in proper sequence of splitting. -
Very very commendable effort Dipan. Kudos to you...

SMS delivery notification is a very simple and essential part of mobile telephony. I could not understand why on earth they didn't include it as a stock application in the OS itself. Why should we need to toil hard for such a small thing? Even the SMS applications, claimed to give such notifications, fail to provide audible notification -
^^^ Politicians are blamed only because they are the least educated and the most corrupted lot, albeit exceptions are there . We, the poor electors don't have any option but to choose among the otherwise avoidable bunch of people. There is no button on the EVM named "None of the above". Political analysts explain if such a button is introduced in the EVM, there is a possibility of democratic impasse that most of the electors of a constituency select that button. There is no solution for that impasse, if arises. This is not at all an improbable condition, particularly with educated electors. As long as this is there, the 'entertainment' will continue

The rulers will always try to kill the uprising, history says so. But this time Baba Ramdev's fast was tactfully reduced to 'much ado about nothing'. IMO, this fast lacked the spontaneity of that was found in case of Anna Hazare's. Why should Baba Ramdev give the opportunity to the ruling party to call his noble cause 'five-star fasting' sarcastically? Erecting an air-conditioned pandal for the fasting played negative role. And the supporters of the fasting satyagrah movement of Baba Ramdev were all his disciples (who follow him in doing Kapala-Bhati and Anulom-Bilom asanas). It was somewhat like Baba Ramdev's own movement, not a mass movement that we saw/participated in case of Anna Hazare's fasting. Anybody raising the black money issue should be supported. Everybody knows that huge amount of black money is there in Swiss bank. But Govt is making some persons scapegoats. The politicians should be booked. We all know that the politicians have the largest amount of black money. Let us all raise voice and play the role of ombudsmen so that govt cannot play tricks in this issue.

Flaunt Your Internet Speeds Results Here! (2G, 3G, Broadband)
sougatadc replied to Karthik R's topic in General Technical Discussion
Barring Hetal ji's internet connection, Saurabh's internet is the best one till date vis-a-vis speed and monthly rent (including tax). It is only Rs. 650 and it is truly unlimited. My BSNL EVDO is also very cheap (only Rs. 276 including tax) and without an FUP, but the speed is not that good. It's just okay. When it was launched, it worked so well, but with gradual rise in number of users, the speed reduced.
