  1. Writing Indian Rupee Symbol - Rs

    Now it is working again.
  2. Good idea, Kanaga. But in my case this SMS-based service will not help much.I've T2T pack on my mobile and thus snap any incoming calls from my relatives and friends (using Tata) and call them back. I also save a lot as my Ma calls my sister or vice-versa as I initiate the calls on conference and keep my phone mute (you know how much ladies talk!). Most of my Tata-using friends know that I'll call them back. But how I know whether a number starting with 92 is still with Tata or not when I'm getting an incoming call? If I snap the call and send an SMS to check and find that the caller has ported his number, calling back will be cost me.
  3. MTS Sub Category Forum Request

One more sub-section for BSNL CDMA also.
  4. TRAI could impose fine a la that in Thailand on operators for missing MNP launch date.
  5. See, with such a good handset and not having EVDO on it (even if EVDO signal is available) is really painful. This is what Sourav was telling in another thread. But when I was pointing out the same bottlenecks, Mufaddal spat fire on me. He became exasperated and termed me a CDMA-hater. Buying a good & costly handset what everybody cherishes. But narrow handset choice, difficulty in procuring a handset (not as easy as buying across the counter), difficulty in changing handset (not an easy proposition at all), low resale value (sometimes it is impossible to sell one, e.g. if I now buy a new handset, my two and a half year old hTc Touch will become nothing but a costly paperweight-- it will be difficult to reprogram it into another number) are what making prospective buyers of high-end CDMA handsets reluctant buyers. MNP is knocking at the door.
  6. Tata Photon + Music

Very good price. I would surely go for it if I was a Tata Photon+ user.
  7. My earlier BSNL number which I stopped using 4yrs back is still not reallocated.
  8. MTS Sub Category Forum Request

Separate section for MTS is not a bad idea albeit it has a very small subscriber base compared to Tata Indicom's CDMA subscriber base of almost 4crore.
  9. Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?

I'm a CDMA user from the date TataIndicom started service. I'm not a CDMA hater.I've used many handsets and now love to use my hTc Touch with 1X data and GPS. I just wanted to know about the success of the techies (also sellers) on data configuration, especially 1X, as people from most of the places in India will never see EVDO signal on their handsets in coming few years.
  10. Top 3 Handsets

Why starting topics with almost same content? Everybody knows that the top CDMA handsets are hTc EVO/Samsung EPIC/ hTc Incredible/ Samsung Fascinate (not in this order). And there is a thread already running live. @ Afzal: you can find your here. You can also see the voting result for the handsets. Experienced members have spent a lot of their valuable time there explaining the same issue. So please don't start new topic with same issue.
  11. Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?

I agree. I've found 1X is highly stable in Indian standard as compared to GPRS or EDGE. And very few places are covered/going to be covered with EVDO signal. See, my question about data usage is lying unanswered for 4days in EPIC vs EVO vs Incredible debate. When I asked whether anybody was using data on EPIC, nobody answered. Otherwise the thread was quite live. It's astonishing to see that some people are using these high end handsets for fun only. Without data, such costly handsets' one half stay unutilized. However steady and fast EVDO can be, with the present scenario of difficulty of activation of handset, non-availability of OMH super-high end handsets, easy availability of 3G, ease of change of handset in GSM (just take out the SIM and put it in another handset) will definitely play havoc in handset market of costly gadgets after the ensuing MNP launch. The sellers in RIMweb are already handicap of losing buyers from Tata subscribers base.
  12. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

Wonderful review. But only I can envy it, coz I'm with Tata.
  13. Huh?! It would be difficult for callers to know the operator of the called phone, but why would operators withdraw the packs (if that is what you mean)? I meant to say that nobody will subscribe to on-net call packs. For example, I'll withdraw my Tata2Tata unlimited pack as I'll not be sure my buddies are still with Tata or not. Why taking risk? Hence, the companies will find that there are no takers for the on-net packs after MNP.
  14. Many people are desperate because of the treatment they are receiving from their parent operator. It's not the case of "The other side of the road is greener". One point is clear, after the MNP, the on-net call packs will not be there, as it will be very much difficult for a caller to track which subscriber is with which operator.
  15. @ Kesav Bought Olive Nexus from ebay today. Tried to buy it directly from Olive, but after registration, they refused to ship it to our place. So, I went for it through ebay paying Rs. 91 more (it is Rs. 3590 in ebay as against 3499 if purchased online from Olive) Let me see when it gets delivered.
  16. I tried a number of times to contact Olive, but their AVRS asks me to wait while it will transfer the call. But finally the call snaps. I could not contact them. Can anybody provide me the address of Kolkata vendor for Olive Nexus?
  17. Tata is refuting the Demand-supply theory of economics. Who will buy this? I've never found anybody to use this wifi router+Photon plus device. Good suggestion, Kesav. +1 for you.
  18. Dual Sim Mobile Which Reliance Is Launching

Why are you spending time on this too old news (of 2007)? Dual/triple standby phones are available everywhere.
  19. ^^^ I'm quite an old member of that forum also. If I got my answer there, I wouldn't have asked it here. If anybody can help in configuration process, please. @Rajan...thanks.
  20. Thanks for your reply. My query was about BSNL EVDO's configuration on these devices only. There is no need for TataIndicom's stand-alone portable wifi router with built-in Photon+. BSNL provides EVDO modems with default username and password settings as "card" which are to be changed to "165" also its dialing number is #777. I wanted to know how these can be configured on these routers, especially the portable one.
  21. ^ I fully agree with Kanaga in each and every word he has uttered in his above post. I feel lucky now that I've my 2 and half yr old hTc Touch in my hand, otherwise I would have been using one of those worthlessly overpriced handsets or an avoidable worthless Chinese handset from Tata Indicom collection. My place is yet to be covered by Photon+ signal. They sent Photon+ devices to their company owned Exclusive store here, but they are still lying unutilized. With MNP round the corner, my handset will become redundant, as I'll port my BSNL postpaid number to a better 3G operator and use it on high-end handset. In that case I'll not use data on Tata Indicom any more. Tata will be a loser in the long run.
  22. MNP will bring the second cellular revolution in the country after 'Kar Lo Duniya Mutthi Mein'. Operators will come out with plethora of new tariffs/offers/discounts/freebies to hold back subscribers like Sourav. So, it will be 'Rakkho Duniya Aapne Paas'. We will be benefited.
  23. @Kesav: As per Rajan's post #455, Karnataka's schedule is distant possibility, so is ours (West Bengal). Let us see...
  24. It's final. No speculation or pessimism any more. And it is not Karnataka, but it is Haryana from where MNP will be launched and from 1st November itself. Union telecom Minister A. Raja has announced this. The news reads as follows: NEW DELHI, INDIA: Amidst the speculation that the mobile number portability (MNP) may miss yet another deadline, Union Telecommunications Minister A. Raja today said that the facility will be partially launched from November. While speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event organised by BSNL here today, Raja said the MNP will begin partially from November 1 from Haryana. He also said that in the first phase, MNP will be launched in 11 circles and the implementation will begin from the second or third week of November. An official announcement about this will be made on November 1. Though the DoT and TRAI had claimed that the much-delayed MNP will not be delayed further, and meet the October 31 deadline, operators were not sure whether the deadline could be met. MNP will allow users to retain their mobile telephone numbers even if they switch their operators. It has already been delayed four times. Initially, MNP was to be implemented by December 31, 2009 in all the metros along with the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The deadline was then changed to March 31, 2010 and then to June 30, 2010. The June 30 deadline was again deferred as operators were not ready with the infrastructure to provide the service.
