  1. But the Tata Teleservices personnel in the letter (excerpt above) did not mention that they have just changed the policy, he mentioned that they "have process to migrate". That means it was there already. Saket from Nagpur (Hetal's same state) also migrated himself from postpaid to prepaid earlier (see post #8 above). So why are you pointing at WB as an exception?
  2. Yes, this is a very big scam-like thing. I've seen many ignorant subscribers who just don't know that their balance is getting reduced every month through auto renewal of caller tune (monthly rental + song charge). And I've seen old persons who don't even know that his/her phone is having a caller tune. The CC personnel are not polite enough to revert the money for the unsolicited activation. Some people even give the suggestion to others that keep less balance in your phone so that auto-renewal cannot take place. Just imagine how ignorant people are about DND registry. Some people are just fighting unsolicited activations just by keeping their balance low. However, I do receive promo SMS prefixing TD/TM/TA/BL/TI on my Tata phone and BV on BSNL although I'm registered with DND. I get irritated and that's why I block these SMSs with Magicall.
  3. Most of the places of this country are not covered by EVDO signal. So, why invest on a device which will not be used? The users at big cities only can have the option of EVDO. But in not-so big cities and innumerable small towns, 1X is the only option. It is like buying a BMW with a hope that one day the roads in my town will allow traffic to move at 200km/hr.
  4. Great news. I'm waiting......
  5. I had a talk with the Tata Exclusive Store here at our place (Bolpur, West Bengal) right now. The personnel told me that the migration process is not new, it was very much there. He even showed me a list of subscribers who have migrated from post-paid to prepaid during last month and were paid back the security deposit. He also informed that migration in data service (Photon Whiz) was also carried out before the Pujas. So, it is nothing new. It is already there. Anyways, everybody in the forum came to know about the news. That's good.
  6. Good news in deed. Hetal, please tell me if it is now possible for me to migrate my postpaid Tata mobile number into a prepaid one? It is possible for a new handset from you to get registered against a prepaid number easily as you said.
  7. Samsung Epic 4G Vs Htc Evo Vs Htc Incredible

Not using data on such high-end phones is like having an HD LED TV with terrestrial connection for Doordarshan channels only. Tata Indicom has introduced internet packs which are very cheap... Rs 43 for 1GB and Rs 94 for 2.5GB. But these packs work only when accessed using userid and password as 'wapuser' while they charge @40p/min for tethering or 10p/10kb if userid and passwords are 'internet'. These are too costly. Moreover, this internet packs require proxy settings for use on the mobile. Can any techie throw some light on the possibility of using userid and password as 'wapuser' (also whether proxy is required or not) and use these attractive internet packs on the mobile itself. Tata's EVDO packs are not that cheap and also very few places are having Tata Photon+ signal. Even my home-town is not covered. Hence, going for 1X data signal is prudent and only option till now. I'm using this internet on my mobile and accessing full internet without any hassle. The speed is decent compared to GPRS packs available on other operators' services.
  8. We all are lucky here at West Bengal. My friends and colleagues use 3G internet on 3G handsets by subscribing to 2G GPRS data plans (pre/post paid both). Or in other hand, BSNL is smarter at your place, not allowing you to enjoy this. I can use 3G data unlimited on my postpaid mobile by paying Rs. 249/month while the prepaid users can have this by recharging with Rs. 274. Have you checked it whether it is accessible at your place also on 3G handsets? Check it. You might also be lucky like us.
  9. ^^^ Here also in WB, BSNL doesn't discriminate 2G and 3G subscribers as far as data usage is concerned. More specifically to say that there is no software loaded in the system to check whether a subscriber is a 2G subscriber or he is a 3G one. I use 3G internet on my ASUS P552W just by subscribing to 2G plan and setting the phone's connectivity to 3G. It's that simple with BSNL. With the same connection, if I set it to 2G, the speed just drops. Isn't it funny? BSNL is like that always, very much broadminded.
  10. Samsung Epic 4G Vs Htc Evo Vs Htc Incredible

Good effort by Gourang. Still the buyers will remain in confusion which handset to buy as they are so close in specs and price.
  11. LG 510 Related Issues And Queries

It is the normal procedure and you have the only choice to unlock the screen and say 'Ok' to the missed call message. As the default setting in this phone is the screen gets locked after each process, you will be required to unlock the screen to give any input under automatic voice responses e.g. if you are checking the balance by keying *369 and dial you will be asked to input 1 for English. At that time also you will find the screen is locked. You can input 1 or 2 for selecting the language only after long pressing the 'lock' key. If you find it annoying, you can change the setting, remove the auto screen lock. This will be the help, IMO.
  12. DND service is not foolproof. I always register mobiles with this. I've registered my mobile and done it for other mobiles of my family members. But still we regularly receive unwanted messages mainly from operator itself and also from other business houses. It is sometimes so annoying that I've installed Magicall and block pesky SMSs using block criteria. This is, however, annoying.
  13. NO, It is NOT working.. I mean if you use internet as userid, then you will be charged at 40p/min (depending on plan)... The usage doesn't use the 1GB pack... I am telling this from my experience.. Hope this helps.. Then I cannot upgrade my handset from hTc Touch to Incredible/EVO 4G/Samsung Fascinate/Palm Pixi or any other advanced handset where proxy cannot be configured. I was planning to switch into android world, but internet on my handset will be too costly to bear. Using an advanced handset in CDMA with Tata is so clumsy these days, there is no option left for me but to wait for MNP (whatever late it comes) and thereafter I would be able to choose good handset on GSM. Till then internet pack on my hTc Touch with userid and password as 'wapuser' is my saviour.
  14. I'm using this pack (using userid and password as 'wapuser' along with proxy) on my hTc Touch. Can anybody tell me whether this pack works with userid and password as 'internet' also? My friend has bought one LG510 which carries 1X data by default and can be used for EVDO also. In the data setting of the phone I found only userid and password setting options are there (no proxy setting option available). How data (using one of these packs) can be used on this phone?
  15. ^^^ How can you be so sure about the negativity? India is a huge country and its population is really big. Nowadays even less than 1% of our population can make a third class film earn back its investment. That is the enormity of our population. The biggies worldwide know this figures very well, that's why they are keen in investing here. High-end handset users will surely buy CDMA Iphones, provided these will not be too costly.
  16. New Launch: LG 6160 OMH

Yes, any OMH should be given warm welcome. In near future, the mass people will still go on using phones for voice communication only. High speed internet or video calling will remain luxury for many people.
  17. Great news! It would be the best if we were blessed with MNP in tandem. As TataIndicom is not accepting foreign handsets (requesting techies for a good CDMA handset on Tata for so many days and getting refused time and again, I'm fed up), it is now worth waiting for MNP. When MNP will be launched, I'm sure many subscribers with CDMA numbers will definitely switch over to GSM (with 3G, of course). The handsets options are much more in GSM and are readily available. There is no hassle to change handset either.
  18. Nokia didn't want to pay for the patent rights of Qualcomm, and went all by themselves into the CDMA designing. But we all know that there journey in this field is not a success. I've used four Nokia CDMA phones (two 2112, one 6255 and 6275) and found these to be not at all worth their prices. Both 2112 are now dead and 6255 and 6275 experienced many glitches, gave me troubles many times. IMHO Nokia's presence will be not felt in CDMA for long.
  19. How to Tag Places In Google Maps?

It can be done on www.wikimapia.org
  20. Issue still unresolved since 2005! This particular question was asked 5yrs back. Check it here. Mods please merge topics.
  21. ^^^ I think all sites are not yet optimized. For example the payment gateways don't initiate process in FF. And many vernacular sites produce garbage when opened in FF or any other browser (they are designed for IE only).
  22. Why don't they provide drivers for android. BSNL, Reliance, MTS or Tata should provide drivers for android immediately. There are cheap tablets galore. After Binatone HomeSurf, it is Zine ePad @ Rs7999/-. Check the attached advt on today's TI.
  23. These are the only few sites for which IE will thrive for now. It is the handicap of the web-designers who design the sites for IE only. In that way they violate the designing protocol. A page should not be browser or device dependent. And there are people who don't want to explore better browsers leaving behind IE, that's why there is still a considerable market share for it.
