  4. Bsnl Evdo Tariff Increase

As BSNL is now offering roaming in EVDO, you will get at least 1X signal and where EVDO is not available (it is not there at most of the places) you will be able to surf at dial-up speed.

  9. Voicemail And Call Conferencing

CDMA devices get heated up with use, NOKIA 6275 is no exception. But I didn't find such resetting. I used it for more than 1000 hrs of call and I used to use it for conference calling every day.
  10. Airtel Cheating

I never had similar experience with BSNL (who will take the stolen money, thus no fraud) or with my current TataIndicom postpaid connection. Tata has been voted as the most trusted Indian brand.
  11. 3G spectrums will be vacated by the Defence and will be available for auction as Ministry has decided for an independent OFC network costing Rs. 10,000. The project will be undertaken by BSNL where Huawei or ZTE will not be allowed for security reasons. The news goes as under: Cabinet clears Rs 10k-cr optic fibre network for defence THE Union Cabinet, in a late night meet on Thursday, approved a Rs 10,000-crore project to build an alternate optic fibre cable (OFC) network for the defence paving the way for 3G auction to be held early next year. The country’s armed forces, which currently occupy a bulk of the 3G airwaves, will move their communication requirements to this network that will be built by BSNL, thus freeing up airwaves for commercial telephony. The armed forces, which had vacated 10 MHz or two slots of 3G spectrum to be used for commercial telephony, had agreed to free an equivalent amount of airwaves till June-July 2010 provided the Department of Telecom got Cabinet approval for the alternate (OFC) network by December 3. State-owned BSNL will put out the tender for the Rs 10,000-crore project on its website on December 7 and expressions of interest will have to be made by January 15. ET has also learnt that Chinese equipment majors such as Huawei and ZTE will not be allowed to participate in this project due to security concerns. Besides, other bidders also cannot source equipment manufactured in China. Even equipment imported from the West will have to pass stringent security tests in the government-controlled test bed for every product before the same can be installed in the alternate communication network project. In the first of its kind in India, all successful bidders will have to transfer technology, manufacture all key components in collaboration with domestic firms and also part with their IPR rights due to the security implications of the project. Given the scale of the project, it is unlikely to go to a single vendor and multiple vendors could comprise a combination of private and public entities. According to sources, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra and state-owned outfits like CDAC, ECIL and BEL along with telecom equipment majors such as Motorola, Ericsson, Alcatel Lucent and Nokia Siemens Networks are likely to be among the bidders. 12. NO, NO, No, NO.... WRONG QUESTION... The question should be "ANY IDEA, WHETHER UNINOR is expected to launch its services???" :rofl_200: :rofl_200: Here you go, they have launched their service. The news article is as under: Uninor starts mobile services, calls at 29p/m New Delhi: Uninor, a Norwegian-Indian JV on Thursday became the latest entrant in the country's competitive mobile telephony market, where it would offer GSM services at rates as low as 29 paisa per minute. Uninor is the first among those who were offered licences last year to launch services. It will be operating in seven circles. "The company has launched operations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh East and West, and Bihar including Jharkhand," Telenor Group CEO and President Jon Fredrik Baksaas said. Uninor is a JV between Norway's Telenor and India's Unitech. The network of Uninor will cover a national footprint of close to 600 million subscribers from day one, he said. To find its bearing in the cut-throat market, the company introduced two tariff plans. 'Talkmore 29 paisa' would allow users to make calls at 29 paisa a minute and STD at 49 paisa a minute. The other plan 'Callmore 29 paisa' also offers local calls at 29 paise per minute and STD at 49 paise per minute with a daily rental of Rs 2. PTI
  13. But remember, TV on Photon+ can be viewed when there is HSIA network strength. In most of the places, if you travel, the network available is CDMA, not HSIA. So, watching TV will be a nightmare. However, for the start, the subscription rate is okay.
  14. BSNL has introduced promotional 3G tariff which is quite attractive. The features are as follows: 1. One single prepaid plan 2. Video and voice call rate is 30p/min both local and STD 3. Data usage rate 1paisa/10kb (no unlimited plan though and it is not sure whether 1paisa will be charged for 1kilo bits or kilo bytes. If it is kilo bits, then not cheap) 4. 25 MB data usage and 50 video calls free. BSNL on its promotion is saying that it is cheaper than 2G. Then why on Earth they are not reducing the 2G rates?
  15. Internet Radio Hardware

^^^ Wrong. For this, a Wi-Fi router and a correctly configured Wi-Fi radio are sufficient. No PC required. A stand-alone dedicated device cannot be compared with clumsy PC or cumbersome laptop just for playing internet radio. e.g. Phoenix WiFi radio costs $149 only (check it here)
  16. Both MTS and Virgin have poor marketing strategy. While Virgin never tried to launch service in most of the cities, MTS has handset availability problem. MTS connection is not scarce, but people are buying TataIndicom handsets (some models don't support MTS) to use MTS connection.
  17. Though a one-paisa-per second tariff translates into 60 paise per minute and so, works out to be costlier than a 50-paise-per-minute tariff, in actual, it will prove more economical. This is because in a 50-paise-per-minute plan, one has to pay 50 paise even if a call is for 20 seconds. Similarly, if one makes a call for 70 seconds, he will have to pay for two calls. But in the case of a pay-per second plan, one has to pay for the duration of the call.
  18. Can't believe! It's only Rs 19 for each MNP (Rs. 38 in total)! I'm eagerly waiting.
  19. Today Times of India featured the news of introduction of new tariff of video calls @ 30p/min in Chennai. However, the STD video calls are 50p/min contrary to the advt in BSNL's site. The article goes as under: FAST AND CHEAP BSNL launches video calls at 30p/min TIMES NEWS NETWORK Chennai: Even as private telecom operators are slugging it out in the ongoing ‘pricing strategy’, state-run telecom operator BSNL seems to have pushed the limits of the ‘first mover’ advantage of rolling out 3G services. The company launched an extremely aggressive pricing of 30 paise per minute for local and 50 paise for STD video calls, making it as cheap as the current pricing existing in the market. BSNL’s 3G service, launched in Chennai on Friday evening, will be available on both pre-paid and post-paid connections. 3G will make available other facilities like mobile live TV and high-speed internet with download speeds up to 3.6 mbps. Customers will be able to watch 24 television channels at present. BSNL plans to add other facilities like video streaming and video-on-demand soon. With BSNL offering these services at such low rates through a ‘promotional plan’ for a period of one year, the 3G pricing strategy too looks to have been set. The 3G spectrum auctions is set to take place this fiscal. “We expect one lakh customers to subscribe to our 3G service in a month-and-half,” A Subramanian, chief general manager, BSNL, Chennai, said during the launch of the service. BSNL has already rolled out 3G in about 240 cities and towns in India.
  20. Trai Must Act

What will the common people do with 5000 SMSs? It would be far better should a thousand SMSs be charged Rs. 5 to Rs. 10.
  21. Sms Tariffs And The Reality

Optimism.... I like it. Let us hope for it to arrive soon.
  22. Yes, there is one in my Dell Business laptop Vostro 1400.
  23. Sms Tariffs And The Reality

I never used to tell the customer care executives about my addon packs (especially about my SMS jumbo pack as it was free for me, activated to me by one of my TataIndicom friend). I use to enjoy 3000 SMSs for free previously. But when I wanted to migrate from Business Silver into New Platinum plan (as it allows full talktime of Rs350 and the rent becomes effectively zero) they told me that my SMS jumbo pack is not allowed with New Platinum plan. They also sent me an Excel sheet of addon packs compatible with different plans. Still I chose to migrate into the new plan as it saves money as the call rate is cheap (any local call is 50p), allows full talk value (Business Silver gives Rs 150 out of Rs 224 rental, effective rent comes to Rs 74, and the call rate is more, especially STD @ 1.50, previously it was Rs. 2.65). In the process, I lost the SMS Jumbo pack (it was free for me, now I pay Rs 50 for 1000 SMSs), free call conferencing (now I pay Rs 25 for it), a total of Rs 75 which gets balanced by full talk value of the New Platinum plan against Rs 74 less talk value of Business Silver plan. Still I gained in other counts: my call charge became less (local landline calls became 50p instead of Re 1) and I am saving Rs. 50 on STD Jumbo pack (Re 1/min is default for my current plan as against Business Silver plan which needed the STD Jumbo pack to make it Re 1/min). I seldom cross 700 SMSs per month, so I chose to compromise.
  24. Sms Tariffs And The Reality

Is it so???? I am also on the same plan and for me 3000 Local/national/roaming SMS FREE @ Rs50/month, which comes to 1.67p/SMS... I think, Tata reduced the SMS count now , since I activated this pack may be two years back... Yes, you are right. I used to use the same SMS pack before. But when I switched my call plan to a newer attractive one, the 3000SMS pack was withdrawn. I had to choose the new 1000SMS pack. I think you are not venturing newer attractive voice plans which Tata Indicom has launched time to time. Two years' time is quite a long time, my friend.
  25. Sms Tariffs And The Reality

I am already enjoying SMS rate of 5p (local or national) with Tata Indicom's 'SMS All India Pack 1000' with a monthly Rental of Rs. 50 which allows me to send 1000 Local & National SMS to any phone. This facility is not available in Maharashtra & Goa.
