I don't know whether MagiCall is the best or not, but I'm using PPC's leading software house Spb's `Phone Suite' for call filtering on my Htc Touch which is very user friendly. With this, you can easily black list the last call number. There are options to accept all but black listed numbers, accept white listed numbers only, block all incoming calls or accept all calls. Besides this, there are quite a few added features of this software which are very helpful. For example, you can reject a call with a customized sms. You can quickly call a person by simply tapping on a photo with its `photo call' feature, etc. I cannot attach it as it is 1.62MB in size. Download the trial version of it. Double click on the .exe file, install it on your desktop/laptop while keeping your PPC syncronised, put any of the serial numbers - 5C3M578358C4 / 5C39E638333F / 5C3EJ3488577 / 5C325663A672 to have the full version. It will prompt to tap on the PPC to install it there. That's it.

Thanks a lot. I use to use O2 PPC which was a GSM handset and I became a fan of Windows mobile. Tata didn't offer updated handsets (its only PPC PDA Konquer is obsolete, which uses 2003SE and very bulky, and also overpriced). It's only RIMWEB which introduced me to helpful friends. Now I can use a TOUCH on Tata network!

Today I've started using my HTC Touch. Sadik sent it to my Didi's address in Kolkata on 27th(BlueDart might not be covering my native place, so Sadik asked for a Kolkata address). I went there yesterday and brought it here today. Thanks to Sanjeev Sharma, who let me know the troubleshooting steps while he was activating his Touch (also bought from Sadik from the current lot). It took me only 15minutes to get it activated. The Tata people were also very helpful. I gave them the ESN(Hex) and they gave me the new MIN within minutes. I edited the MIN in the handset and after the auto restart, it started working. My 1yr old NOKIA 6275 is now history.

Yes, I too agree with you. Earlier, the PDAs offered by Asus like P750, P525, P526, P320 or P535 were overpriced vis-a-vis their features. Now in India, PocketPC will started to be used in significant numbers.

Yes, Hritik is correct. I too have `Lifetime Walky' which is rent free. Whatever amount I make calls, I am required to pay only that. The most attractive component of its tariff is local mobile calls of any operator, which is charged @Rs 1.2/3min. Even BSNL doesn't extend this low rate for their on-net calls to mobiles from landline. Walky to Walky calls anywhere in India is Rs 1.2/3min. But this attractive plan has been withdrawn from new customers.

Even after BSNL started giving Broadband of `upto' 2Mbps, the target is quite far in many fronts. Its unlimited connection is limited to 256 Kbps only. And although the tariff has come down, it is quite high compared to world leaders. With speed still low vis-a-vis tariff, the penetration level of Broadband will take time. Reduce tariff, increase speed, see the surge in user base! This must be the tag line after the mobile boom in India.

My dear friend, go for HTC P 3400. It is a Windows 5 PocketPC with 2 megapixel cam, big touch screen, SD card hotswap expansion, MP3 and all other advantages of a windows mobile. The price has sharply come down and it is available well within your budget (10K bucks, it isn't `bugs' ).

Tata provide prepaid details for last 10 calls made on its website, free of charge. One-time registration is needed in www.tataindicom.com/myaccount.aspx after that a 4digit password is received on the phone. Login for the first time and change the password. After that just login to view last 10 call details. Only problem is that, the call details get over-written, details for full month is not available. This problem should be looked into by Tata Indicom.

Really good for moderate users. But service providers like AirTel is not present nationwide with their landline and broadband services. They are concentrating only on mobile services. Even in metros, BB and wireline services are not available. Way to go.

Tata is going to offer 4 new tariff plans for its mobile postpaid subscribers. The basic plan (Honest 150) with a rental of Rs 150 will carry a free value of Rs 50 and all calls (local or STD, mobile or landline) will cost 90p/min. The second one (Honest 275) will have no free value, but all calls will cost just 50p/min on-net or off-net, intra or inter-circle. The third one (Honest 440) is a copy of Reliance 440 plan, where all on-net calls will be free nationwide. Other local calls will cost 50p/min and STD off-net will be Re 1/min. And there will be one new Business plan named Business 299, which will carry a free value of Rs 249 making effective rental Rs 50 only. All local calls will be 50p/min and all STD calls will be Rs 1.50. This will be a significant improvement over the Business Silver plan which with a rental of Rs 224 offers a free value of Rs 150 and local mobile calls cost 50p/min, landline Re 1/min and STD is impractically costly, Rs 2.65/min.

All the four plans are now available nationwide (Mumbai may be an exception, courtesy TataTele Maharastra). I have already migrated from Business Silver to Business 299 plan. But the cosmetically facelifted website of Tata Indicom is yet to boast news of the new launches. The IVR also is not providing details of these plans when contacted.
