Third party application just to forward a message! How ridiculous! iPhone might have got much hype, but I would like to reproduce here some points which I wrote in this forum elsewhere and which should be taken into account before buying an iPhone. iPhone does NOT support MMS. When someone sends an MMS to you, and you are using iPhone, nothing happens. You don't get a notification either. Nothing can be copied and pasted a la what you can easily do in a Pocket PC or in any other smart mobile. You don't have the facilities like instant messaging or voice dialing. Voice dialing is a feature you can find even in sub-Rs1000 handsets. You cannot use a stylus on its touchscreen. It likes to be touched! Because the keypad works on touch only and because everybody's fingers are not the same size or shape, it isn't hard to make mistakes. It takes time to get used to the virtual keyboard. Camera is decent but not superb. It has a 2.0 MP cam. But no digital zoom or flash! And worst of it is, you can't video record unless you have third-party applications! You just can't buy a bluetooth headset and start listening iTunes over A2DP profile. It strictly supports the Apple iPhone Bluetooth headset only. Another bottleneck is you cannot transmit data like contacts or pictures via bluetooth! iPhone has fixed storage capacity only - either 8GB or 16 GB of flash drive. But you cannot expand its storage capacity as it doesn't have memory expansion slot! In today's world, even 16 GB will make you feel suffering from penury. I just made a list of negatives about iPhone. Still as it stands, the iPhone is worth to be owned if you want to get noticed. But are third party applications available for all the above bottlenecks? I hope the new version of iPhone, which is going to be launched shortly will be devoid of these problems. Despite having the drawbacks, it has got the power to make style statements.

Tata Is Going To Introduce 4 New Postpaid Mobile Plans
sougatadc replied to sougatadc's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
But my dear Honest (Kamal), it is not at all honest on the part of Tata Teleservices to copy a plan directly from Reliance and giving a nomenclature `Honest 440'. -
I am a rapidshare.com premium account user. I havn't found any change in speed after this new cosmetic facelift. Even with the earlier version, I could download 5GB of data from 2am to 8am using the night-unlimited plan of BSNL. I am not experiencing any improvement over this (my monthly usage exceeds 60GB on an average). I prefer using firefox over internet explorer. The new version of rapidshare.com is now directing it into internet explorer on the final step after I click on the `premium' tab. This problem can be overcome when I right click on the down arrow icon and specify my preferred download manager to queue and schedule the downloads. In that case pop-up opening of internet explorer is not there.

Tata Indicom New Life Time Connection, T2t Only 10ps & T2m 50ps
sougatadc replied to B R SHIVANANDA's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I don't think it is nation-wide offer. It has been written by the thread-starter B R Shivananda that this offer is for Karnatak only. -

Tata Indicom Launches New Pre-paid Recharge Voucher Offer
sougatadc replied to KumaarShah's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
In a few circles, Aircel has introduced `Rate Cutter' recharge voucher priced at Rs 246/month only which cuts the local call rate to any operator's mobile or landline to absolute zero. So, it becomes unlimited free local calls to any phone against Rs 246 only. It is in a nascent stage and Aircel is fighting artificial congestion in some networks. It is taking time, but will surely set the trend. -
Std Prices Slashed By Bsnl 1.20p/m
sougatadc replied to robbyji's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
With all these operators slashing STD rates, TATA is lagging behind. They have some offers like Regional corridors (50p/min against a monthly additional rent of Rs50 within some states regionally) and reduced STD rate of Re1/min against an additional monthly rent of Rs100. But reducing STD rate altogether is required after this spate of rate reduction by other players. TATA's some otherwise attractive plans like 'Business Silver' have STD rate as high as Rs2.65/minute. -
Orpat To Launch Mobile Handsets In India
sougatadc replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
My dear Kamal, it is again a news article which is much delayed. Orpat is already in the mobile phone handset market since last year. A number of low cost handsets are available at retail outlets at our place. But these handsets, all re-branded Chinese products, like Spice and Simoco are not sucess stories as most of the buyers do not prefer these unreliable handsets. -
Tata Teleservices Launches New Tariff Vouchers

Then it must be a delayed featured story in the Economic Times. I found these newly introduced plans at least 20 days back on the official website of Tata Indicom. -
Tata Teleservices Launches New Tariff Vouchers
sougatadc replied to @ksh@T's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I don't know from where you got the news that these were launched 'today'. These plans are available for quite a few days now. The 'Platinum 349' plan is not that attractive on the count that the free value of Rs 349 is for making local calls only. While Business Silver and Gold plans cover all calls (local+STD+ISD) in the free value. -
Updated : Samsung Touchwiz (f480) Launched In India !
sougatadc replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
But, there are cons even if it is the leader. iPhone does NOT support MMS. When someone sends an MMS to you, and you are using iPhone, nothing happens. You don't get a notification either. You cannot forward an SMS! It doesn't have anything named `Sent items' in text messaging. One can try many things in round about ways. But why on earth there shouldn't be any telephone directory for mobile phone subscribers in today's world, where the number of mobile users are far more than that of landline owners.

Updated : Samsung Touchwiz (f480) Launched In India !
sougatadc replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
It's a pity, all the best handsets are in GSM. We, the CDMA subscribers will just go on watching and envying. -
One can have every details of a BSNL landline subscriber in printed directory while not even name of the same person is available legally if he / she is a mobile user. This is highly irrational. TRAI should take step to rectify this.

Mtnl Cuts Std Rates To Rs 1.25 Per Minute
sougatadc replied to @ksh@T's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
If you are ready to belch out Rs 750 a month, then you will be able to enjoy unlimited internet usage @256kbps along with full waiver of rent of your landline phone. This is Home UL 750 Plus plan. And if you want better internet speed, it will require Rs 1350 a month for 512kbps net connection (Home UL 1350 plus plan). -
Aircel's new offer at Kolkata will just revolutionize India's mobile market. With the new offer, one can have a new connection at Rs 49 only and 1yr validity is just Rs 150 and the lifetime connection costs Rs 248. And with monthly recharge of Rs 246 only, one can make unlimited calls to any network, mobile or landline! This will make all other operators, market leaders or smaller players alike, to revise their tariff in a positive way. It is a `do it or perish' condition for all.

Tata has introduced lifetime (upto their license period of 2017) plan for prepaid customers. Existing customers will require to recharge with Rs. 200 (talktime Rs 10) which will give local calls @ Re 1 and STD @ Rs 2. New customers will require Rs 99 to convert into lifetime validity. Validity remains till the subscriber continues recharging at least with Rs 200 per 180 days.

In today's world of falling rates in telephony, Tata has decided to go for negative revision of their tariff. In postpaid sector, Tata used to offer unlimited incoming free while roaming against Rs 150. They revised this plan to restrict it with 750 minutes of incoming calls free while roaming. Now they are going to restrict Tata to Tata local calls with that ceiling (750 minutes). It was unlimited local calls for Rs 75. Now the unlimited plan will cost Rs 125. I wonder, what will they do with Rs 325 recharge card in prepaid sector. This card allows unlimited local calls Tata2Tata in a month. Will they raise this price also?

Airtel Reduces Std, Roaming Charges
sougatadc replied to coolrajiv's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
even in delhi situation is worst. they claim best network but netork is worst you can see the call drop in every 4-5 minutes if you are driving on city roads. even on Ring Road call drops a lot. Bharti is the worst service provider I have ever seen If this be the situation in places like Poona or Delhi, AirTel must try to improve their service. -

Tata Launches New Walky-talky
sougatadc replied to kesav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Yes, they say that it has 'Nikkel' batteries. If it is NiMH battery, then it will be a great news. But an organisation like TATA should be careful about their official website. Besides the spelling (Nikkel), they also has written spelling of Kolkata as 'Kolkatta'. Also at the page tataindicom.com/myaccount.aspx, in new user sign-up portion, for corporate and small-medium enterprise customers, they have advised to download the form and contact the 'Tatat' Indicom customer care centres. Absolute negligence this, if considered as an official website of an organisation which is now 57th largest brand in the world with valuation of $11.4 billion. -
Tata Offers Long-distance Calls At 50 Paise
sougatadc replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Like other regions of India, the postpaid mobile customers of Tata Indicom in states of West Bengal including Kolkata circle, Bihar and Orissa will now enjoy STD to any phone in these states at 50paise per minute against a monthly rent of Rs75. Surprisingly, the state of Assam has been excluded like Andhra Pradesh is not there in South Corridor. -
Secret Service Codes for All LG Handsets
sougatadc replied to net_secrets's topic in Technical / OS related
No codes for the handsets which are currently in use? -
I don't know why Economic Times featured this article yesterday. This company (Way2Sms) is around for at least a year offering the service. They offer this service not for free, they earn revenue from sponsoring companies whose advt.s are carried out at the end of each sms. The sms is only 92 characters long including space instead of normal 160 characters, and you are allowing the company to insert a disturbing advt. in each and every sms and the receiver of your sms is bound to read a pesky advt. through your sms! You are receiving the free service and the addressee is reading the advt. This is not fair at all. I got registered with Way2Sms way back, at least a year ago. Their service is quite irratic. It's quite cumbersome to get registration done. You are not sure, when you will get the password of your account served on your mobile. After a long wait when you get the password finally, and when you send an sms to somebody, you are not sure when that will reach the addressee. There is no option of delivery confirmation. And many a times it happens that an old sms reaches late while a new one gets delivered early, spoiling the sequence of your conversation altogether. Sometimes it does not reach at all. You can check it yourself by sending test messages to yourself. That is why I seldom used this service. In today's world of very cheap sms packages offered by almost all operators, this will not be going to be a very great success. Instead, if any service is introduced where the caller and the called person, while making voice calls, listen to an advertisement for few seconds every minute to make the call free, may succeed. This is my opinion.

As CDMA handsets don't possess IMEI numbers, and Tata and Reliance use handsets which have software loaded specific to the network, they should extend immediate help to their bonafide customers by locking the outgoing calls on their stolen handsets, and tracking the whareabouts when being used with same or other UIM. This is the minimum help one can expect form the service provider company without having special contact in the customer care community. But, one becomes helpless when the thief don't continue to use the handset, he dismantles it and sell off its parts and battery. Regards..
