My dear friends, if you have Rs 5600 in hand to waste without any repentance over its loss, then go for these Chinese handsets. Have you noticed, The sets are quite heavy at 136g considering their small size? the description says there is no OS, how ridiculous! The phones also do not support java. With no after sales support and authorised service centres, you just pray to God that the handset continues to run. One glitz surfaces, you are helpless. So, please avoid these chinese handsets from manufacturers with no credentials. Your money is hard-earned. Don't waste it. Thank you, Regards...

You might have used WAP on your mobile, which uses much lesser quantity of data than while you surf full internet on your PC using your mobile as a modem. That is how you have been charged less while you surfed internet on your mobile.

source :: http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/S...20News/1249769/ source :: http://www.tataindicom.com/t-prepaid-plans.aspx (select Maharastra & Goa in drop-down list) The first link given by Kesav does not provide the amount required for the lifetime recharge. The 'Lifetime Go One' plan, which is for Maharastra & Goa circle costs Rs 249 according to Tata's official site's Maharastra & Goa page. Prepaid_plans..TTML_Maharastra.pdf But the advertisement which pronounces launching of the plan says it costs Rs 200. Tata_Lifetime.pdf Which one is to be believed? I have found many a times in reputed comapanys' website that they update data in a lethargic manner. So, how can one be sure that this plan will not be available nationwide? Their official website says that other circles are still offering lifetime plans for Rs. 489! How come this big disparity continue? This is not fair.

Does a Blackberry allow 'full' access of internet including opening of applets? Sans applets it is not possible to do mobile banking or train/flight ticket booking. Only surfing and file downloading aren't sufficient.
-
If mobile internet is your lookout then PocketPC is a good choice. I have used EDGE enabled PocketPC for internet, but didn't experience frequent hanging. Accessing e-mail is quite easy. But internet explorer on a PPC doesn't allow applets to open. So, mobile banking is a problem. I don't have any idea on Blackberry service, anyway.

Virgin Mobile Is Here For The Youth, Courtesy Tata

DoT clears Tata-Virgin deal Times News Network Putting to rest all controversy over the Tata Teleservices-Virgin alliance, the department of telecom (DoT) on Friday gave it a clean chit after receiving answers to its queries on whether the tie-up was above board. The DoT said Virgin Mobile India, the company formed under the tie-up, was not operating as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in India. While DoT had earlier said it had no problems with the tie-up, the GSM operators’ association, Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI), had written to the department alleging that Virgin was operating as an MVNO. In its latest communication to DoT on March 20, COAI again claimed that Virgin Mobile was offering full-range mobile services like a licence holder in violation of existing regulations and the services were similar to those offered by Virgin as an MVNO in other countries like the UK and Australia. The DoT had then sought clarification from Tata Teleservices (TTL) on certain points, including usage of the Indian operator’s network or spectrum by Virgin. The DoT based its final decision on Tata Teleservices’ arguments that it had no partnership for use of network or spectrum with Virgin and Virgin Mobile India was set up purely for non-licence activities. “The Virgin Mobile brand Tariff Plan completely belongs to Tata Teleservices/TTML and it is subject to the regulatory process and has been filed by Tata Teleservices/TTML with Trai. All customers, tariff plan and the revenue belong to Tata Teleservices/TTML,” the DoT said in its statement. TTML stands for Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra). In response to the DoT letter seeking details of the tie-up with Virgin, the CDMA operator said that it has obtained a trademark licence from UK-based Virgin Group to use the Virgin Mobile brand for marketing mobile services for youth. “Virgin is not launching any telecom services in India and thus it goes without saying that it’s not using network or spectrum of TTL,” the operator said in its response to DoT. On the question of whether Virgin’s model was akin to MVNO, Tata Teleservices maintained its stand that its tie-up with Virgin did not follow that model. Pointing out that MVNO’s definition worldwide included two things — buying of bulk air time under contract from an operator & reselling of minutes as well as customer ownership, Tata Teleservices said, “None of these are applicable or relevant to TTL’s launch of Virgin Mobile branded services.” MVNOs buy bulk airtime from mobile operators and sell packaged plans under their own brands. Virgin operates in most other countries as an MVNO. Indian regulations do not allow MVNOs to operate in the country. -

Do not think so. Some particular series under 92 would be reserved for Virgin. Tata software would treat it as offnet no. Contacted both TATA and Virgin Customer Care helplines. The executives attended me did not tell very clearly whether free call from Tata to Virgin will be available or not. -
Now there will be courses on 'How to use your mobile' from different training institutions!

Does Tata 2 Tata Unlimited free pack work for making call from Tata phone to Virgin mobile? Virgin mobile numbers start with 92 similar to Tata and its network is also dealt with by them. So, will it be fair to expect unlimited free pack on Tata phone working for making calls to Virgin also? -

Trai's Regulations On Unsolicited Commercial Calls
sougatadc replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Telcos to pay Rs 5-20K fine for every unwanted call 18 Mar, 2008, Times News Network Finally, there’s help at hand. Your mobile operator will be held accountable every time you receive an unwanted call from a telemarketer. Sector regulator TRAI on Monday notified that service providers will be subjected to a fine of Rs 5,000 for the first unsolicited commercial call made to a Do-Not-Call-registered subscriber, and Rs 20,000 for every subsequent call. All that the subscriber has to do is to inform his service provider within 15 days of the call. Justifying the move to impose stiff penalties on telecom operators over their failure to rein in unsolicited telemarketing calls, the regulator said, “There have been a number of consumer complaints to the authority about telemarketing calls. Financial sanctions, as an effective deterrent to non-compliance of the regulations, has become a necessity. The objective (of these penalties) is to increase the effectiveness of the regulations by providing some financial sanctions to non-compliant telecom service providers and reduce the nuisance and inconvenience caused to mobile phone subscribers.’’ Sources said that mobile phone companies are likely to challenge the TRAI directive. While no operator wanted to comment officially, sources said the operators are likely to point out that most of the unsolicited calls were being made by the 15,000 plus unregistered telemarketers and that they had no control over them. TRAI also directed that telemarketers be fined Rs 500 for the first unsolicited commercial communication they make to a DNC-registered subscriber and added that the fine amount would be increased to Rs 1,000 for every subsequent call. The Do-Not-Call service was introduced last year by the TRAI for those mobile subscribers who did not want telemarketers to disturb them with calls on house loans, credit cards, insurance and other services. So far, it has been a non-starter as even DNC-registered subscribers continue to be troubled by telemarketers. The regulator also said that it was forced to impose steep penalties as the issue of increasing telemarketing calls had caught the attention of Parliament, the Supreme Court of India, the Court of Delhi, the Reserve Bank of India and the State Commission (Consumer) of Delhi. However, it must also be pointed out that only a small section of India’s 250 million mobile subscribers has opted to sign up for Do-Not-Call registry. So far, only 8.3 million phone users have registered for the service. - a far cry from the initial prediction of 50-00 million cellular users likely to sign up immediately to get relief from pesky telemarketers. Beyond the metros, there are hardly any takers for the DNC. Even in the metros, which have a combined cellular base of over 50 million, only a small percent of subscribers have signed up. According to TRAI data, about 13,600 telemarketers have got themselves registered with the DoT. The NDNC is being accessed daily by around 600 tele-marketers for scrubbing their calling list. Out of approximately 1,522 million numbers uploaded by the telemarketers for scrubbing, 1,411 million numbers were cleared by NDNC for calling, TRAI added. -
Tata Teleservices Willing To Pay For Poor Services
sougatadc posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Times News Network 15 Mar, 2008 Virgin mobile has introduced unique 'credit on incoming call' feature. Now Tata is going to pay the subscriber suo motu if the network quality deteriorates. In Japan, commuters get compensation at the exit point of metro rail if it runs behind schedule. Small packets containing coins are handed over to them. Sahara Airlines introduced this feature by announcing compensation if their flight got delayed by over half an hour. Tata Teleservices, India's fifth-largest mobile phone operator, has offered to compensate subscribers "voluntarily" if the quality of their services was below standard. "We will come out with a customer chart setting more stringent quality norms compared to telecom regulator TRAI and if we fail to comply with those standards we are ready to pay penalty to our subscribers," Anil Sardana, managing director of Tata Teleservices, said. Sardana said the government is likely to meet the cellular operators on the issue of value-added services. He said the government approval was required not only in case of BlackBerry but for all value-added services. "We have been taking the government's approval for all value-added services even if its takes months but the same is not true in case of others so what we want is that rules should be same for all," he added. Tata Tele, Sardana said, has become the number two telecom operator in Delhi and the NCR with over three million subscribers and was aiming to become the top player in the region by March 2009. He said Tata Tele's average revenue per user had increased even as the ARPU of all other operators were under pressure due to falling tariffs. He, however, did not specify the actual accruals to the company. Meanwhile, the company also launched i-HELP Emergency Service that allows Tata Indicom users to contact their family and friends instantly in case of an emergency. To avail iHELP *44 Emergency, subscribers have to register with the company for three preferred numbers to be contacted in an emergency. A caller just has to dial *44 and the system calls as well as sends SMS to the three registered numbers, intimating them that the subscriber is in need of help. -

It Is So Easy To Recharge Tata Mobile
sougatadc posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Tata has introduced online recharge facility(except Maharastra) through net-banking. Go to the site http://www.ichoose.in/etrade/recharge.jsp and put your prepaid number and you can either top-up or validity-recharge by simple e-banking steps. I have recharged a phone through it. The point is it is faster than the whole process of scratching a card, getting on the network, putting the multiple digit number through keypad leaving aside the time it takes to go to a shop and buy a recharge card. The phone got recharged instantly. -

The only point to praise Tata is that they are offering this online recharge facility with all the flexibilities- like choice of recharge and top-up amounts (with full range available for RCVs and top-up any amount) and choice of gateway of any bank. On the other hand when individual bank sites offer e-recharge for different mobile networks, they fail to cope up with changes take place in RCV offers of different operators. As a result you cannot be sure whether you will get the particular recharge amount on the site or not. -

No news of postpaid in the official website of Virgin Mobile -
My Dear Kamal, AirTel's official site is silent about this great offer as mentioned by you. Similarly there isn't any tariff rate disclosed for unlimited usage GPRS plans (Mobile Office) in case of many circles. AirTel also cheats. As they debit monthly from your talkvalue for mobile office subscription. And you end up paying much more in the guise of admin charges. Regards...

Is this facility a unique feature of Tata only? Or is it available on Reliance, Idea, Vodafone, Aircel, AirTel also? I'm sure it is not available on BSNL or MTNL and will not be available in near future also. Regards.. -
