I am using a Sierra 555 Aircard Only with Reliance CDMA 1X. Reliance launched it 3 years back, I purchased it for Rs. 14,500. Yes.. And lets not forget, the price finally came down to 4-5K. How did that happen.. did they stop their usual R&D ? Probably the simple fact is that Yes, all biggies do spend on R&D, but do they recover more in the name of R&D ? Nobody will do R&D for charity.. For eg. Apple i phone for Rs. 32K/36K.. goes beyond the usual R&D explanation. But one must take something seriously, what both the Techies are suggesting.. In case if SAR values are really higher in these sets, it would lead to havoc in the long run. Such problems build over time & symptoms take to appear, till then permanent damage is done to your health. Still, we won't be able to pin-point that its the 'unbranded Chinese' phone being used since last 3-4 years which has led to this.. Which means they will still thrive.. unless the biggies join hands to start a crusade against such devices and again invest in R&D to unearth the real, sad truth. (If fears are true)

Big AD in TOI Bangalore on the 29th os Sep with all features & no price.. Rs. 25000 is very steep for this instrument. Cultivating that trust factor in such phones will be difficult after the LG 9800 debacle. Ppl will think, soon this too will come down to Rs. 15000 level..

Dear All, If we Indians are the ones spreading good things about the new 'Chinese-touch screen Dual phones', we will be the first one, in the medium term, to reject these sets in future in case of issues. And this totally depends on the market feedback in terms of quality of product/sales/service. (Although, i am surprised to note chinese handsets with Warranty-how many service centres in India?) Simple.. Will you suggest a chinese instrument if it has worked well for a year: YES Will you suggest a chinese instrument if it has conked off in a month: NO Finally the market balances itself.. And yes, the 'common' lower/middle/upper class Indian is more than happy to flaunt such a product. They don't understand technology & give a damn, for who spends or who feeds on R&D.

Not yet launched in South i suppose.. But Jiten_Indian seems to have definately purchased it in India.

Not just that guys.. Any Dual makes a lot of sense for ppl who are on frequent roaming.. In case you already have a CDMA - Relaince, you must opt for another something, like a Life Time Prepaid BSNL/MTNL which has the max. network coverage in remote/rural areas, national highways etc. Here while travelling, always keep your phone on single service provider instead of permanent dual. This will save a lot of battery.. change to dual or to MTNL only when there is no RComm signal. Damages - In LT Prepaid once in 6 months, u must recharge for min of Rs. 200..

If you really want to compare this plan, compare it with RComm's My Truly Unlimited Onnet 995 Plan. You pay Rs. 1500/- extra for this plan to get Unlimited Local/STD/SMS's but you dont get the benefit during Roaming. Whereas RComm's plan remains exactly same even during roaming.. although there's no Free o/g other than R-R. No doubt Tata's is a very good plan but what is the % of ppl going to use it ? Initially it will be cool to flaunt your bill but then remember that CDMA phones will give you a headache after talking for hours. This plan will be dumped after few months unless it really makes some personal/business sense. i.e. Only soon to be couples, STD/PCO owners can stand to benefit the maximum; nothing beats their calling frequency. @ PK Daga saab.. I do understand the meaning of Phone tapping.. Thats exactly why i doubted the idea that TATA will find out whether phone is being used for commercial purpose that too without monitoring the voice conversations! By looking at the CDR's you will definately find repeat calls. for eg. your neighbours servant keeps calling his village every few days from the same local booth (on Credit basis).. so the no's will surely repeat in the month. And if you really want no's to repeat & to beat the system, give a better price compared to other Booth owners or lesser than prevailing market rate of Re 1/- per minute. This way, the CDR list will rarely have any unique no's. When i take this plan, i can start a new thread & put you all too on Con-call & charge just 50p for your STD calls & mint money. (Just explaining the business strategy !! )

Sh*t ! I had already dreamt of becoming a millionaire thru this STD/PCO business.. But lets see how they find out.. Phone tapping is illegal.

Yes, it says GSM/CDMA Calling.. Also, it separately displays both signal strengths.

@sadikk Is this true even for Data cards? I thought this dropping issue was for limited to Landlines & Net-connect via phone. However, i've not really experienced this with Data card. Its only goes into dormancy when not in use.. but not dis-connected.

My Dear @ksh@t, If not the STD/PCO booth, atleast the next person will be concerned about the condition of the earphone at the end of the day. The handsfree pores will be plugged so badly with earwax, that you would never want to discuss further... Best solution: Put the guy on conference with the Booth landline or his mobile.. Neither does the BB gets touched by anybody except the owner, nor does he pay extra charges for Conference since both Local & STD is Unlimited Free! Infact, with this con-call method, a smart STD Booth operator sitting in Mumbai can do business at an all India level with other Booth operators in India eg. by con-calling his STD booth friend in Delhi, he will connect a Delhi customer to his relative in Chennai ! Can anybody beat this idea.. Tata will soon say Tata to this Unlimited Tariff. As VinayakPai has suggested, this idea will backfire.. Indian public will outwit them..

@Sunil.. Since you already have an Airtel LT prepaid connection, you can add the GPRS plan @ 600/month or 20/day scheme as explained by Ganesh. Only thing is that u cannot talk & browse the same time. If that's not an issue, its the best piece of advise for you right here from Ganesh.

Great.. infact Sadikk can tie-up with Rim-Web & share a small part with them for effective marketing & most importantly help locate 'ASC's' for those sets which lack warranty. RIMWeb can officially rate such gadgets to help RimWebians. Come-on i don't think we trust anybody else more than few senior RimWebians like Sadikk & other GURUs in 'those kind of Gadgets' for both Sale/Service. They say 'Unlimited' but its actually Freedom 650 - unlimited hours plan what they give. Atleast here in Bangalore, this is the gimmick story. They also say that someone will definately call for change of plan once the 2 months get over, but no sign of calling & it continues in the same old plan with same charges, till you get your 3rd bill & freak out.

@ Sadikk Bhai should have his own virtual gadget-shop online (Webpage) where all available products should be featured. Currently newbies & many other members can only catch a few of his gadgets thru various different topics spread across the Forum. It will really help us, who pay for something like BlackBerry, when cheaper/better options are available.

All ASC's are different in their approach towards customers.. just like WW/WWE's. If they are facing irate customers whole day, they get seasoned accordingly. In Nokia ASC, they tell customers that major repairs take place in Chennai, while Chennai service centres say the reverse.. basically they buy time for 20-25 days. Ever wondered what would have happened in such cases without RUIM phones.. (We generally keep spare RUIM based basic sets for the same reason for smooth temporary phonebook & no transfer). All ASC's are 3rd parties & they only fear the 'Circle After Service Centre Manager' who will be employed by Service Providers like Rcomm, Spice - Only he can command them. If you are having any issues at the ASC's catch hold of him - i don't know how, although we manage it here. It basically comes down to the attitude of every ASC, its boss & its staff, each having their own unique attitude/approach towards equally challenging customers.

Yes, anybody will concede that finally its worth taking that risk. The pro's outweigh the cons especially the amazing battery life with above-avg. feautures for its class & price. I agree with Honest.

^^^ My dear Jayanth, I think that your handset goes into dormancy mode after 2-3 minutes. Regards. Not really, Normally these Data Card/LL's go into dormancy mode but they don't get dis-connected. As i mentioned earlier, it gets dis-connected after few mins. Whether active or inactive !

Have a look at this for a D88n complaint to Spice ASC.. Driving rough, due to customer - dissatisfaction. Date:23/09/08 M/s. Spice Mobile Ltd. D-1, sector-3 NODIA-210 301 (U.P) Dear Sir, Sub: Complaint regarding faulty instruments - Spice CDMA/GSM dual Mode Model : D88N Color: Black IMEL: 353480020228*** ESN: 3CBOD*** We have purchased a mobile SPICE D88n from M/s. ***, Bangalore under their Invoice No.08/507 dated 02/06/08. We very much regret to inform you that, the instrument is not functioning properly from the beginning itself. We append hereunder the problems for your information and necessary action: 1) Incoming SMS is always blank in CDMA/GSM – both mode. Atleast we have to wait 10 minutes for SMS incoming and if we open the inbox immediately on receipt of the message, the message box invariably blank. 2) When we dial the Phone, there is an engaged sound & very low call connect sound. If we speak for 10 minutes even though battery fully charged phone heated up so much & at that time, it is very difficult to hear & the incoming voice is broken. 3) The ear plug & cord is not working properly. 4) While speaking, suddenly the phone shuts off completely without any warning & it needs to be Re-booted. 5) When we forwarded a message it will say message not sent & saved in draft box. 6) During long conversation voice broken, disconnect very often due to heating of the phone & battery discharge very fast. 7) If we connect the Bluetooth, then lot of disturbance in the audio quality. 8) Already the phone one has been sent four times to Rajajinagar & Gandhinagar service centre for repairs. Gandhinagar Service centre has not responded & refused to give any service.. Rajajinagar service centre had repaired/serviced the phone four times on different occasion in past 2 & half months. 9) Regularly, when phone set hang off, we ourself re-boot the same by going to restore factor setting & entering the password 1122, This we have to do on regular basis. 10) Near by five times our person Mr. Venkatesh has gone for repair of the instrument but still SMS is not functioning properly & software was reloaded subsequently. The old software replaced by new software & was re-loaded but yet not functioning the instrument properly. 11) When we visit the service centre, several customer are facing the same problem & register the complaint. The Service Centre ppl are baffled & ask us why we have bought this failed model !! So please arrange to re-place this defective instruments with a new instruments of dual model immediately, otherwise we may be compelled to take up the matter with Consumer Forum and other legal department for necessary of cost & business damages due to non functioning of the instrument. Going by your last post, just remembered one thing. Since for such phones, there will not be any warranty/Service centres, what should be done. There are very few trustworthy KShah's in every city It would be dangerous to give in unsafe hands.. Why i say this is because, i might give the treo Pro a thought in the near future, as dkaile was suggesting.
