source: http://tech2.in.com/news/smartphones/samsung-blocks-svoice-feature-on-nongalaxy-s-iii-devices/309342 Samsung blocks S-Voice feature on non-Galaxy S III devices When Apple launched the iPhone 4S, the highlighted feature of the smartphone was the voice recognition assistant, Siri. However, unlike most Apple features, this software was available only for the iPhone 4S and not for any other of their iOS devices. The new iPad, though has been an exception, since Siri features on it. Recently Samsung showed off the Galaxy S III and like its Cupertino rival, the brand too, has equipped a voice recognition software with the feature called S-Voice, which of course is one of the highlighted features of this yet to be launched handset. Like in the case of Apple, wherein developers began dishing out this software to other iOS devices via a jailbreak, Samsung too is facing a dilemma where developers at XDA forums have offered S-Voice to other Android devices running Google’s latest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. It seems that this feat has not gone down too well with the folks at Samsung and they have now blocked this service from being used on any other device, except on the Galaxy S III. As per a report by TNW, “The S-Voice APK, which contained services that were exclusive to the Galaxy S III, allowed owners of other Ice Cream Sandwich-powered smartphones to install Samsung’s new voice assistant (its Siri rival) and perform commands on their devices. It appears that in the last 24 hours, Samsung (and it’s partner Vlingo, the technology behind the voice functions) have begun detecting requests from non-supported devices and blocking them, displaying the message: ”Network Error. Please Try Again.” A post by an XDA member provides details about the script that is sent from Android devices to Vlingo servers and states that when they try accessing this feature on a handset other than the Galaxy S III, they receive the message which states, 63.116.58.58 10.8.0.1 HTTP 340 HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found Expert Info (Chat/Sequence): HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found 404 The report by TNW goes on to state, “By sending a string of data that identifies the device generating the requests, Vlingo can proactively block any device that shouldn’t have access to S-Voice. However, this does mean that it could be possible to spoof the device ID of an unsupported device, fooling Vlingo into processing requests again.” It appears that Samsung wants the S-Voice feature to be exclusive to their Galaxy S III smartphone. The brand has added a lot to the feature set of this handset, hence they aim to keep this new feature exclusive to this device only and do not want it shared on other Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices

Upgrading Firmware For HTC Droid Incredible to 2.3 Gingerbread
n_iceman replied to jewrajka's topic in HTC
I am using stock. Not loaded any roms. Have 2.3.4 on my Dinc1 Since I had many duplicates, I used 'Contact remover Plus' - which I think is a fantastic app, if not for the following problem. it gave me the same error "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" I had to Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Running select Contacts Storage and Clear Datk. The sync worked with my 'Google contacts' and got my old data back IMHO: Basically, if you have complicated contact fields ...like notes, birthdays, company names, and other non-phone-number fields, and then merge two such complicated contacts, then the result is a contact card which has two such fields in your phone. Now, the phone contact list works properly, but the syncing with 'Google Contacts'. gives the above -
100+ Reasons Not To Buy A Windows Phone 7.5

WOW ! From the link in the above post * Direct Call: When texting or messaging someone, lift the S3 to your ear and it will automatically dial that person. * Smart Alert: Put your phone away for a few hours. The minute you pick it up it will vibrate to notify you of missed calls and messages that need your urgent attention. * S Voice: Siri’s twin brother that uses natural language recognition to look up stocks, search information, give you a weather report, set an alarm and more. * Tap to Top: When you’re in the middle of a Web page or at the bottom of a contact list, tap the top of your phone (not the screen) and the phone jumps to the top. * Buddy Photo Share: Take a picture of a few friends and it will use face detection to identify who that is and instantly email or MMS the picture to all the people in that image. * AllShare Play: An AirPlay-like system that lets you share your screen and media with other S3 users or DLNA devices. * Smart Stay: The S3’s front camera tracks you to keep the screen on while you’re looking at it. Look away and it dims the screen. * S Beam: Tap your S3 with another phone that has S Beam and you can transfer files at blazing speeds (a 16GB HD video in less than a minute). So that’s some smart stuff there. For Samsung, this was playing Apple’s game and being one up on them. For the first time, it was all about the user experience – the ease of use and the separation of complex hardware from the simplicity of features that we all want.

It has 512 MB RAM will that be an issue? I think 1 GB would have been better. I bought this tablet (iberry 10") for 14990. The build quality is just okay. There is lot of lag. I wish it had more RAM. The processor looks 'under-clocked' or whatever. My HTC Incredible phone is much much faster and smoother. It is also 1Gz. The display is not so good. Accelorometer doesnt work well.. Basically 'itne paisey main itna ich milengaa'. Its definitely a compromise on many fronts. It makes me wish I had spent 10k more and bought a 7" samsung tablet and the peace of mind which comes with it. Buy costly, regret once. Buy cheap, regret forever. I am posting this, so that everyone else can learn from my 'mistake' of buying a 'cheap' android tablet. If anyone else has had a different experience with any other brand, pls post.

If I buy a bluetooth dongle for my PC (or laptop), can I set it up so that all the audio from the PC goes to my Jawbone ERA bluetooth headset (or any other bluetooth headset for that matter) ? Can we connect PC and Android phone both simultaneously to the Bluetooth headset? This was I can watch movies/ listen to songs on the laoptop without worrying about getting missed calls on my phone, which will also be connected to the Bluetooth headset.

I recently purchased a used Incredible 2 from a reputed seller in our forum. Unfortunately as soon as I purchased it, within 3-4 days the battery went dead (as in 'deep-discharged') and I had to throw it away and buy another one. Soon the charging port stopped working, and I have to use external battery charger for using the phone. Now the mic is also not working, and I am really troubled. I dont really blame my seller as the piece was not under warranty, and I am sure he was unaware of all these future problems immediately on selling it. ~~~ My phone repair guy in Hyderabad says that the 'motherboard' is faulty and we have to replace it. But it is not in stock. I have patiently waited for about 20 days, but no relief so far. If someone has a bricked Incredible 2, maybe I can buy it cheaply from him for the 'motherboard' spare-part. Can any of the RIMWEB gurus kindly provide me a solution, on how to get the piece repaired? I can even courier the piece to any of you if required. Please help gurus.
