Answers to the queries on previous page: I have only tested at Bandra East on either side of the Western Express at home & office. No separate activation was required. Purchased the Pro 3 dongle from a shop and gave him KYC documents. Next day I got a call for confirming details. Then I clicked the 'activate' button on dongle. Once it said failed and on second try it said activated. If I select 'Hybrid mode' then it always shows only EVDO on the dialer app. If I select PRO3 then it takes 5-10 seconds and then shows PRO 3. Speed difference in both modes is not much: 1.5 Mbps vs 2.3 Mbps usually. Nothing that you can make out.
-
OK, reliance dongle is showing "PRO 3" (Rev all the time now. Speeds are usually 2Mbps plus. ping times are quite good though (at least to RCOM Mumbai test servers) Still slower than RCOM 3G which used to be always over 3-4Mbps at my place - but then 3G is a little inconsistent now days - sometimes I have to select '3G/2G' to be able to get calls (data keeps working in 3G only mode but calls keep dropping in and out)

Yes, I finally bought the original Reliance Pro3 dongle. I was trying to get unlocked dongle because I wanted it with WiFi. But then I was not sure that even if i get it activated or use RUIM etc whether they will give me the dongle plans (which are cheaper/better than the phone plans) Have put it in a wifi router as backup to MTNL internet which keeps going off. Its working fine and 40Gb for 999 is pretty good but there's NO PRO 3 signal anywhere in Bandra East & West at least that i could get. If I put it on "Only PRO 3 mode" then it shows no signal. If I put it on Hybrid then I get EVDO and around 2Mbps speed. That's much lower than RCOM 3G which is usually 3-4 Mbps at my home/office but there are no good 3G plans for any operator - all of them are 3-4Gb and then pay as you go. Will put in a complain and see - maybe they have to activate Rev B / Pro 3 separately or something...
-
What I meant was that if I buy an unlocked dongle with Rev. B support (and WiFi - which is not there in RCOM Pro3 model currently), then what do I have to do for getting Pro 3 / Rev B data activated on such unlocked dongle ?

List of 4G Handsets that works for India - Band 3 & 40 (1800 Mhz & 2300 Mhz)

Does the variant of Note 4 which is for India (SM - N 910G ZKE) support both 4G bands ? -
Check for EC315 on eBay, saw couple of listings such as below. http://www.ebay.in/itm/up-to-14-7-MBPS-3G-PLUS-SPEED-HUAWEI-EC315-FULLY-UNLOCKED-/111501701694?pt=IN_Laptop_Desktop_Accessories&hash=item19f604f23e Got one of these !! Loving Rev B speed !!! Any pointer on how to charge the 3001 lifetime 1GB plan? It seems that the option is not available when I go to recharge my prepaid connection online. What did you have to do to activate PRO 3 service on such unlocked Rev B datacard ? I need Rev B datacard with WiFi so dont want to buy the Reliance Pro 3 datacard

Advice Required for Verizon BlackBerry Z10 on Reliance CDMA
ami1 posted a topic in Technical / OS related
Is it possible to get a Verizon Blackberry Z10 to work on Reliance CDMA once its MEID is registered ? Or does it need extensive programming etc ? If possible, then will there be any issue of PIN (say in BBM or appworld) ? though BES/BIS is no longer essential now. Reason I am asking is that I have bought a Z10 (GSM) but my office number seems to be having issues in getting ported to Reliance GSM. Lot of verizon Z10 are available (even with unlocked GSM) and I am thinking if my porting doesn't happen then can i buy a verzon z10 and use on RCDMA ?- 9 replies

How to open PC when not accepting Password
ami1 replied to sadanand.sapkal's topic in General Technical Discussion
I second chntpw, works almost every time. Just remember to change directory into the correct folder before running it. (search for SAM inside windows folder and cd in the folder containing SAM). If you have a problem making bootable pendrive for any of the above solutions, you can borrow one from me if you are passing through Bandra WEH any time. If you are only worried about the data you can copy it by booting any live CD or even windows set up CD and pressing Alt F10 to get a shell then type explorer to copy data to any pendrive etc. BTW, I once had a similar problem and discovered that the keyboard localization had changed to UK and instead of the symbols (in my password) it was typing something else. You can check that by typing your password in the LOGIN box once (don't press enter, just type and see). -
Even I enjoyed audio books tremendously for 2-3 years when I had a 1 hour + drive to office everyday. Bombay traffic would honk so much behind me as I was never in a hurry to reach anywhere. Have stopped since I shifted to location adjacent to office. Only feasible option now is probably headphones while cycling/jogging. Maybe I'll revive it by listening to audio books instead of music. I have a lot of audio books but most are from torrents as at that time the rates were much more than printed books or ebooks. Just bought 2-3 which were too arcane to be anywhere. How much do these cost nowadays ?

I have been using e-cigs or PVs (electronic cigarettes or personal vaporizers or just vaporizer) for 6 months now and anyone wanting any info on these for quiting analog cigarettes (ie normal cigarettes) can ask questions here as i've researched quite a lot and bought lot of useless stuff initially before learning what works. Good thing about e-cigs is that you can quit analogs but still get your nicotine fix - without the 5,000 harmful chemicals. More than 99% of the harm in cigarettes comes from the other 4,999 chemicals including Tar/CO2 etc and not from Nicotine. Most of the manufacturers are chinese as US tobacco lobby is trying frantically to stop US mfrs or imports and trying to spread FUD that its not approved by FDA etc. Fact is that e-cigs are proven to be 100 times better than analogs in various studies. Off course, nicotine is still an addiction so its not something for non smokers to pick up but for smokers to use to drop a unhealthy habit. Also there's no tax on nicotine liquid so governments are also wary of how to treat this. But the sales of e-cigs are over $ 100 Mn now and quality & features have improved dramatically. Its quite practical now and there are various advantages - for example you can smoke inside Car or Home/Office A/C environments instead of opening car window in the heat or going and standing outside, there's no smell or bad taste for wife/GF to complain about, after a few months all the gunk in you lungs go away and you feel much healthier. Some downsides are: ordering from china takes 2-4 weeks to arrive so if you run out of batteries or atomizers or e-juice (nicotine liquid) or cartridges you will fall back to analogs. You need to plan in advance which is not always possible or you end up ordering too much stock. Also customs charges (around 500 for Rs 5000 order) vary and so does the time they take to clear the package. But you don't have to go to customs office, you just pay the postman when he comes to deliver. The cost per month is nearly the same as analogs or maybe little higher during initial months as you settle down. But each order size is 3,000-5,000 which seems little large as we buy cigs for 50-100 per pack and just 1-2 pack at a time. One order will go on for 1-2 months usually. Some forums for more info: www.e-cigarette-forum.com Good (& Cheap) supplier: www.heaven-gifts.com Good Models: newbie: M Series or M401 (looks identical to analogs) later: Joye eGO (looks more like a pipe - but 6 hours battery life compared to 1 hour of M series) You need to get 1 starter kit plus 3-4 extra atomizers (attys) and 10-20 empty cartridges (carts) and 1-2 bottles of 35 ml e liquid of extra/super high strength (denoted in mg eg. 24 mg) For 36 mg strength you will need to go to bestecigs.com but 24mg is also ok. You can also buy pre-filled carts but turn out to be expensive so i don't prefer them. YOu can order pre-filled carts if you don't want the hassle of refilling your carts every 2-3 days (takes half an hour) You can use a USB Pass through (USB PT) to connect and vape (smoke:smoking :: vapour:vaping) without using the battery. I even connect the USB PT to my car cig lighter jack using a motorola car charger to vape in car. Batteries usually work for a month or two before conking off. You typically need to vape for more time than you usually smoke as its slower than analogs. This is because nothing is burned in e-cigs, the atomizer heats a little (60-80 C) and the liquid (soaked in a foam in the cartridge) is vaporized before you inhale it. Since the feeling of a normal cigaratte and look of smoke is there, this product doesn't involve any other changes in your lifestyle and so it is easier to quit. I have been 10-15 analogs per day person for a decade or two and found it difficult to quit as i like the nic kick. But with e-cigs it just took me 2 days to drop of analogs. after a few weeks i threw away my various lighters ash tray etc. and for in a few months i started really hating the smell of cig smoke. Ran out of e-cigs then and fell back to analogs since my next order took 5 weeks to arrive. Switched to e-cigs again after that and am now trying to order in advance. In full disclosure, I still do sometimes have an analog with people (every 3-4 days) when I don't want to take out the e-cig and waste time in everyone going gaga over it and trying it out and wasting time in all types of explanation of how it works. Will write in detail when i have some more time or if anyone has any quries. Just thought that this might help someone quit so...

As per internet search, this error seems to occur when a large part of the initial sectors used to store file allocation table (and it's backup copy) are damaged. There does not seem to be any way to recover this. You can post it to me and I'll also have a go & post it back to you either way. Though there's very little chance as you have done everything possible. Replace Suggest you replace the card, since anyway there would be issues of reliability now and you will keep backing up data to avoid future loss. Usually bad sectors are skipped by low level format and fat is made where ever good sectors are present. But most software (FS driver) has a list of hard coded sectors to start looking for fat and once a lot of them are damaged then nothing can be done. You can manually put fat at different places but that's not worth it in practice. Google has implemented some changes in flash read/write from 4.3 or 4.4 to extend life of the sd card. This can usually only happen if you have some apps moved to SD Card which are accessing files all the time due to bad coding. Usually only the user data part is moved to sdcard but it depends on how the developer has written it. One of the reasons why google is discouraging sdcard more and more with their updates.

Do you get access denied / write protected error when you try to Format ? If the format completes, just ensure that you had selected "full format" i.e. NOT the "quick format" or /q option Quick format only writes the File Allocation Table. Full format will mark all bad sectors and capacity will be reduces accordingly but it will work properly. Though you mention you have tried with diskpart, I am just mentioning the below in case you didn't do it: 1. Start > Run > cmd 2. type "diskpart" -> runs diskpart.exe from system folder 3. type "list volume" -> now you see all your connected drives, see which one is the drive 4. type "select volume #" -> # being the letter of your drive 5. type "attributes disk clear readonly" -> removing the protection 6. Then open your SD, you can now edit, delete, move files. There can only be the following reasons for this write protect behavior: 1. Write protect tab is on lock position on the SD Card to Micro SD Card Adaptor. Are you using a sd card to usb adaptor ? If yes, can you try another adaptor or try formatting on the phone ? 2. File system is corrupt. Use a low level formatting tool like this , Low level tools will skip the file system drivers and write to the sectors directly. read here 3. Disk sectors are corrupt (ie Hardware on the card): In this case a low level format will just mark the bad sectors as such and disk capacity will be accordingly reduced but whatever is left will work fine. 4. The write protection thing is a very old tech using a small diode and light sensor and many issues are possible incl dirt which will start showing it as write protect. If you are using your laptop's inbuilt MMC reader then just try on another laptop or with a SD Card reader. The following should not occur technically but sometimes they do occur due to some random bugs: Did you put it into a Mac by any chance ? Sometimes it changes to GPT and gets really strange behaviour on windows & android. Though it only happened to me while trying to make bootable mac os disk on the sd card. Do you have root on your phone ? If yes, Can you use a root explorer and try to select permissions and see if read only is selected ? Did you by any chance put it in a blackberry with 'Encrypt SD Card" selected. Can't think of anything else. I have only had this problem once with mac and once with google chromebook installer making 18 partitions with GPT on my microsd. Google ChromeOS installer has an option to fix this so I am attaching that too. It'll try to download 4 MB conf file you can let it do that or just remove internet so it fails. after that select options and select format usb drive and it will do its thing and then open windows format tool. Took me 2-3 tries to get my sdcard fixed. chromeosimagecreatorV2.zip

Oh, Got it now. That's like the earlier nokia phones with only numeric keypads where we could type text using T9. I find it much better to just type the characters (a,b,c..) on the qwerty keyboard which comes up in dialer on Z10. But you can install your favorite T9 dialer Android APK on the Blackberry Z10. I thought everyone knew that, but in case you haven't tried that just install Amazon market OR Snap and install your favorite android apps. Download the APK of the T9 dialer. Then email or copy the file to your Z10. Open the file manager on Z10 and click the apk, it will install. (select allow non market apps in Settings). This is for OS 10.2.x . If you are still on 10.1.x then you need to install the APKs from a PC/Laptop using USB cable. Read more here & here See the screenshots of my Z10 with Google Play android apps below below :-

I am not sure what's a T9 dialer, but if you have an android app for it then we can install it on Z10 (preferably running OS 10.2.x where you can just click on the apk and it will install; if you are on 10.1.x then there are side loading procedures) I use the stock dialer or voice command to dial.

How to format write protected pendrive / memory card
ami1 replied to sandeep07's topic in General Technical Discussion
Without knowning the details of your pendrive / OS etc, there are these generic options:- 1. Check if there is a physical write protect switch on the pendrive. This is usually a small switch with lock icon 2. Do a low level format using either dos shell and format & fdisk if required, or in a linux terminal (mkfs.vfat & fdisk if required to remove partitions and recreate partition) If you don't want to format Try chkdsk p: /F /X (p: is your drive letter of pendrive like e: or d: ) in dos shell. You can also try to Boot windows in safe mode (press F8 repeatedly when it starts booting and choose safe mode with command prompt and then do the format Try HP USB Tool if you can't do the above: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool.shtml Try this tool: youtube.com/watch?v=pOhUUwC70B0 (i have not used it. Just came up in google search) 3. Check registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies. The value 'WriteProtect' should be absent or set to '0'. Search on google or see the following two topics for more details: http://davidkramer.wordpress.com/2009/03/23/sd-card-write-protection-problem/ http://m3rlinez.blogspot.in/2007/01/just-rescued-my-write-protected-usb.html -
Tutorial: Activate Reliance CDMA on iPhone 4 CDMA (Cydia method)
ami1 replied to SBINOYP's topic in iOS (Apple)
Slightly offtopic, but, can the ios gurus tell me which model of ipad mini (& IOS version) would be most suitable to be jailbroken quickly ? I just need cydia with apt-get on it. But i have been in touch with IOS jailbreaking stuff since iphone 4 cdma many years back. I am not looking at the retina ipad mini. So, does the older ipad mini come in many models or just 1 single model ? am thinking of buying from ebay for 16k slightly used. -
