Going a little off topic but: How does Droid 2 or Droid X compare to EPIC ? Can anyone who has used both comment ? Does Motorola's signed boot loader etc have any problems for us ?

Government Proposes New Verification Rules For Telecom
ami1 replied to anshu_s09's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Completely useless and senseless red tape. Will solve exactly Zero problems. Phones are just a means of communication. What's next - address verification if you want to shout something to your friend ? If we keep reacting like this for every thing which can be misused by the bad guys then we'll soon be having verification before getting drinking water. People out to do big illegal things won't go back just because of some such minor hassle. So, thousands of employees and govt officers will waste time on this and neglect doing anything of real importance. Essentially, just a ploy to get paid by Telcos to reduce the stringency. -
This didn't happen to me from what I can remember (my pre is currently unusable till i replace its screen - so i can't check now) Do the images show up as a folder (.MapTool) in the photoroll app or do all of them just pop up in between your own images ? I do remember some other app whose images use to appear in the photorol but only as another folder so there wasn't much problem.

Check if its userserial or userial - just type mpt and it'll give the syntax or mpt --help BTW, the mpt command is only to put it in serial mode, if you are using usb mode app to put in serial or none mode then no need of mpt cmd
-
If your usb mode is set to serial port then you can connect qpst/qxdm/unicdma etc BUT you will not get charging/usb-drive options & neither will NovaCom or any linux commandline work. If your usb mode is set to none then you will get charging/usb-drive/media-sync etc options and you can get linux commandline with novacom or WOSQI (webos quick install) BUT qxdm/qpst/unicdma won't connect (since they need serial port) So you need to switch usb-mode to serial when you need to program with qpst etc and otherwise keep it at None so that you can get usb-drive WOSQI novacom etc. Hope, its clear now.

when i enter spc code 000000 its showing wrong code enter again can any one help me from where i can get spc code for palm pixi sprint 1. Ask your seller what is the SPC. 2. If that's not possible then read Muffaddal's tutorial on getting data on palm pre and in the initial portion there's a section on resetting the spc (if i remember correctly)

You just need to click "Pause" in shangmail menu when you are not connected to Data. Then you won't get the error. Whenever you connect data just select 'Resume' in shangmail (and then 'retrieve email')

Read the review in link posted by SA1974 Why does it have Glue ? The screen guard that we usually use just sticks to the screen by cohesion, without any glue etc Good I ordered only 1. Was thinking of ordering 2-3 more. Even though i was very suspicious of why some co would have such an offer, my greed got better of me since it was only Rs. 150/- gamble. Anyway, if its not usable, then I'll have learnt a good lesson for the future.

Yes, Great Find. I too ordered one for Palm Pre. Was a little suspicious at first as to why they are giving these out free. Finally used HDFC netsafe virtual credit card no to pay for $2.85 shipping.

I think i got that error once but don't remember what I did. Usually if the usb drive is formatted as FAT instead of FAT 32 this should happen. See if you can copy it as MapTool (without the dot) and then in a linux commandline (using WOSQI or Novacom) do: cd /media/internal mv MapTool .MapTool Otherwise, try creating a folder .MapTool on the usb drive as follows: cd /media/internal mkdir .MapTool then go into usb drive mode again and try to copy the contents inside .MapTool on you PC to inside .MapTool in the pre usb drive

I really love this form factor with portrait keyboard, but without the hassles of slider like Pre. Though screen resolution does seem a little low.

All About Treo 755p - Lets Discuss The Good And The Bad
ami1 replied to dkaile's topic in Other handsets
^ Try using MDN as login/password (ie your cell no) by going into preferences>network All outgoing being diverted to customer care may be due to telco wanting to verify address etc due to recent strictness by government. My 6 year old airtel connection has a similar issue now and the address they claim to have on record seems to be someone's idea of a joke - Dawood Park in Lucknow !! Am trying to get them to put a new address now. Big hassles due to stupid government policies. -
If the echo problem occurs with the handsfree also then just check if the problem occurs in all areas or only in your home/office etc. ?
-
^ I never had any voice call quality problems with Pre - though i have other gripes about the build quality of its keyboard etc. Just check if any setting like hearing aid/tty etc has not been enabled by mistake.

Government bans all Bulk SMS / MMS temporarily?
ami1 replied to thilak.kmb's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Government people are incapable of thinking ! Its a big and tiring effort for them unless someone is paying for it. -
Government bans all Bulk SMS / MMS temporarily?
ami1 replied to thilak.kmb's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
This is really too much stupidity. I am not getting payee confirmation SMS from ICICI and I need to transfer money urgently. Always used to get it instantly. But not getting it now even after 5 tries of adding/deleting the payee. -
Not really. Only on Tweaks it will do a Luna Restart. Very rare tweak requires a full reboot. Some Apps require a Java Restart. Rarely do the apps get it into reboot.

^ Yes, I was going to mention that Doc is a killer (what a pun!) on such tech issues & you can get in touch with him to get any software & advice about win servers TS etc. -

I have some winxp tutorials for installing it on pendrive and DOMs and although i had got it to work and even have an image saved somewhere it had some issues with installing/updating drivers etc. Will see if I can upload the image or courier a CD. Will also try to include a linux image on the CD/DVD with the requirements you mentioned. You'll need to copy the win or lin images onto pendrive using DD command in linux. Will also send the DOM to you. Mail/PM me your address. Lin image will take time for 1st boot since your hardware will be configured. Win image may boot in safe mode or may not boot at all if h/w is too different. In that case use the tutorial to make another image. Give me a few days i'll do this in weekend. -

If the DOM has IDE interface (or maybe they even have sata these days) then you don't need to do anything at all and you can just install most linux distributions directly i.e connect DOM first then boot a linux CD or pendrive and during install process select the DOM as disk and install on that. Once you've configured everything you can even make it read only so that inspite of what users do the thin client image is the same on every fresh boot (except for documents folder which you can mount read write) Alternatively, you can also copy the files in a linux live CD onto the DOM and run grub and make it bootable. Tell me which distro and version you are using and i'll give you directions. PCLinux install perfectly on pendrives & DOM's. Others should also do but i'll check once if you give me the name. I have a few DOM's with IDE interface - very low capacity though - 64/128MB - I can send to you if you have any need. These are 5-6 years old when we used to get solid state storage very expensive and we had compressed entire thin client OS on 128 MB ! (with Java, Firefox, OpenOffice, Media player, Messenger, thunderbird, file manager) But it used squashfs file system which has extreme compression but doesn't let you write on the fly so any writes are done in a complicated process of overlapping on the base image using unionfs. Old memories ! If your DOMs have some other interface like CF etc then i'll have to check. But almost everything will run with linux, you'll just need to search a little. If you want to make a thin client image you can use some TC distributions or something like MiniME ( http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=180 OR http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=186) - around 350 MB with almost everything. Alternatively, if you want more control on things - install PCLinux on HDD and customize everything, install & uninstall what you want etc and then run ReMasterMe script in PCLinux and it'll create a live cd image of that system. Just copy the .sqfs file inside that iso to any disk/dom/pendrive and install grub on that partition to boot. -

If you don't want to use VirtualBox you can use VMWare - it has linux versions and installs flawlessly. In fact, once you have installed the guest os you can just use the free vmware player to run the OS from next time (if you don't want to buy VMWare or use cracks etc) Even for the initial install there is a simple workaround where you can use vmware player to do the initial install. Here are some other observations: I have used thin clients extensively in all types of enterprise as well as even consumer environment (see novatium.com for consumer thin client) BUT it does eat up a lot of time in configuration etc and any problem brings down the entire setup rather than just one person's PC going down. Besides, the main issue seems to be your ODIN thing overwriting backups in multi user mode. Does it do that even if you install separate copies on a win2k8 server for each user in their separate profile folders ? (do 'install only for me' for each user) If ODIN works, then you could simply have win server and RDP clients on atom or even via thin clients (see VXL thin client website) VMWare will have additional overheads in terms of mem/cpu loads for a no of OS copies compared to just win server. I don't see much use of VMWare unless ODIN just refuses to work in multi user setup. OR maybe you should just buy one of those small Honda Gensets and keep using normal PCs ! -
Thanks for summarizing that so nicely, Tarun.

^ Yes, Even I used to get really confused with that message thinking there's some problem in the phone programming. Took me many days to realize it was Shangmail trying to access internet while data is off.

If someone wants to use a GUI tool for activation bypass, there's a official tool by Palm here (made for developers who want to develop on devices not activated on any service provider) You have to run the jar after doctoring your pre and keeping it connected. I haven't used it since it mentioned that you won't be able to use voice/data services etc etc. But it says one can always doctor again to reset everything. So if anyone is doctoring they can just try it out - it doesn't need linux or cygwin etc and is completely graphical.

Will try to add the above and upload again. Will also see if the patch can be integrated. How does one get pre into esn mode ? Can someone mail me some link or file for that.
