Pre/pixi - Simple 1 File Backup/restore Of Sms Contacts Emails Call Log
ami1 replied to ami1's topic in Other handsets
That's odd. If the path to the source was incorrect it would have said file not found. See that you are typing the destination path correctly ie /media/internal/ or do: cd /media/internal then: cp /var/luna/data/dbdata/PalmDatabase.db3 . (there is a space and then a . (dot) in above command) If you still get error, Try to cd step by step and see if the path i've given is correct (i am on PRE, maybe its different on Pixie or Pre Plus). ie: cd /var ls now see that the folder luna is shown when you the above do ls, then cd luna ls now see that folder data is shown when you do the above ls, then cd data ls then see that folder dbdata is shown cd dbdata ls now see that the files i mentioned can be seen when you do ls If all is ok till now then try : cp PalmDatabase.db3 /media/internal/ if you still get error, try: cp PalmDatabase.db3 /tmp/ Tell me what happens. Process works flawlessly for me. I do it before any doctor and copy the file back and get back all contacts, emails, sms, call log. Have restored 3-4 times till now. Only browser bookmarks/history isn't restored for which i am still searching. -
If battery is loose then you can try putting a piece of folded paper on top end of battery so that it remains pushed against the contacts at the bottom end. That's what some people are doing in precentral forums.
-
This offer is only valid for a ONE month duration for each user. And only usually given to people who have not recharged data card for past 2 months. That's what reliance support tells me. So its just a way to get non users to start using data again.

Partial Fix For Loosing Browser Icon On Removal Of Battery /sim Change
ami1 replied to Mufaddal's topic in BlackBerry
^ Yes, I realized we have to save TWICE. Once in Reg screen and once in the main screen again. Thanks. Now the BB browser says Not Authorized for every website ? Though opera keeps working. Does it matter if i am using sam1 etc or MDN ? -
Thanks a lot for Pre 1.4.5 bypass rom.

Partial Fix For Loosing Browser Icon On Removal Of Battery /sim Change
ami1 replied to Mufaddal's topic in BlackBerry
+1 Doc. I was having this problem too. EDIT: Have changed BB Reg ID to Home SID ie 14655 (and saved before exiting back from edit menu) but it keeps getting reset back to 2004 once i reboot. Is anyone else having this issue ? -
^ Thanks Mihir. Though i have shifted to the new ver2 ROM quite some time back after i messed up my settings after using F105 kernel. NOW I need a WebOS 1.4.5 ROM from Treo8 etc with bypass. Can someone link to a working 1.4.5 rom ? I have found some ROMs on treo8 but even after translation i can't make out if it would be ok for my sprint pre. here's the link and another one

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
ami1 replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
^ 1. Private keys are never with any agency. Otherwise they wouldn't be called 'private' ! You are confusing 'certificate' with 'key'. Pvt/Pub keys are generated together and only public key is sent to an agency or the other party. Read PKI on google/wikipedia etc. Even if BB servers are located in india the pvt keys are still on BB handset only. And many cos run own bes servers anyway. 2. It is not about eastern - western or british rule etc. or indian submitting to any western country/company. That has no bearing on this. Even if Govt bans BB, there is no slap on RIM's face. They just have less profits. But Indians will not be able to use a good service. 3. Countless number of encrypted channels are available to every one anywhere. If the interception is lawful ie granted by a court or legislation/law then there is no issue - either service provider will give the communication to you or you can arrest the communicating parties and ask them. Getting automated and easy wire tapping mechanism is only for 'fishing' ie just trying out randomly if someone is doing something wrong - ie warantless tapping - no court order/warrant/record/oversight or even suspicion - just tap whoever you want to see if you can find something. (That's why RIM keeps repeating 'Lawful Interception' - they can't say more due to obvious reasons) 4. All this energy should be spent in the actual task of policing rather than foolish things like on wifi and bb messenger/bes etc. But since policing requires actual effort and has risks, babus prefer to do these useless things. Even when IB had clear info on Mumbai blasts 1 week earlier than the event, our government could not do anything. This is the same mentality which was earlier not allowing mobile service at all in J&K and then did not want prepaid and then banned SMS etc. None of that will ever have any effect on the situation which has a different cause and needs a different solution. It is not like before BBs or cellphones there was less crime ! This is just to divert citizens minds from the real issues. Frankly, I am amazed and a little saddened by how easily people believe such propoganda and start supporting the govt on the wrong issues. Why don't we mandate that all couriers/letters should be read by a Govt Dept. And Ban all cellphones altogether. And Internet.... And Carrier Pigeons ! You must understand that the end result of such things is always that all possible misuse of power will always happen. And the government will selectively pick on anyone they want to silence for speaking out against the government because given enough monitoring everyone has broken some rule or the other. But those who submit to govt or pay off, will not be prosecuted Just my thoughts. Maybe I am completely wrong, since most people seem to support this. Let's hope the Govt is able to get its way and that many terrorists are caught through BBs in the next 1 year and we save some lives and losses. -
You have to use a ROM with activation/profile bypass like ROMs from Treo8 - then phone will continue to work on reliance. If you use the official ROMs then you may get stuck at activation step and phone will not work. Links to various versions of treo8 roms are in the forum - in this thread as well as the 3D apps & games thread and maybe in the Data on palm pre thread. I am using 1.4.1.1 which works perfectly.
-
Parin, I think in the specific posts usually the threads get very long over time and its very difficult to search for latest versions. Its much better this way where everything is in the beginning of the thread. For example, I had been searching for qinray pre rom in the threads and couldn't find it but it was easy to get it in hitesh's topic. Hiteshbhai, great initiative. +1 in Advance.

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
ami1 replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
^ Do you think this this will stop terrorism ? Do you think this will even have a minuscule effect on them ? Not even 1%. Then what is the benefit ? If not just more corruption sources by troubling innocent citizens. People who are using illegal weapons and murdering citizens in cold blood are already in for the highest punishment, so stealing a few phones to make calls to their HQ will not deter them at all. And they can use their own encryption etc or just code words for their mails etc. This has zero impact on terrorists. Just like the earlier mandate in mumbai that no one should have unencrypted wifi (just because someone claimed credit for a bomb through such wifi) OR asking for ID in cyber cafes. Maybe now they'll want ID for PCO calls and buying/drinking water (since terrorists definitely must be drinking water !) We are all for more security but not mindless 'security theatre'. There are enough laws that everything that terrorists do is already illegal. So implement those laws rather than waste time on such things by fooling gullible citizens in the guise of terrorism etc. Its the height of stupidity to think that banning a blackberry service is going to impact the terrorists ! Imagine one of them refusing to bomb someplace because his BB data is deactivated ! This is just like our office installed card readers on all doors after Mumbai terrorist attacks. As if they are looking to enter the office politely and will go back if doors don't open ! -
^ Completely agree. Most people seem to think its something good that Indian Govt must be allowed to tap into citizens communications when ever they want - ie without a court order. For justified reasons all this is already available if there is a court order; But Govt wants to do this at their own whims and fancies. And they want telcos to install automated systems so that they can do all this without showing court orders to telcos and asking them to tap the communications. With the extensive corruption we have, this is only going to be used to extract money from innocent people who make some small mistake, while the big fish are going to do whatever they want anyway. Why would terrorists want to use Video Calls ? Its not like they go around with iphone4 and are itching to use facetime to show their face to police ! Neither do terrorists use blackberries or BES. They don't have time to fiddle around with these things. They'll use simple throw away phones (or stolen ones) and their own code words rather than such things. And specially if they know government is monitoring these things they will obviously avoid it. So the only people left to catch are normal citizens. If govt keeps fishing around they are bound to find small time issues with someone or the other whom they can safely hound for money without fear of any retribution. The impact of such issues will be felt many years from now - by which time it'll be too late to protest - as there will be sufficient material against anyone who matters. See what happened in the various phone tapping scandals (amar singh etc etc) and how govt made deals and things were just forgotten. Now they'll be doing hugely more tapping without any logistics problems and covering not just calls but mails messages too. Soon we'll be calling each other 'comrade'

Is your GPS working ? Check in location services and switch it on. Then have you selected offline as map renderer in MapTool After switching on your data see if google maps works (it takes a few tries before it'll work due to slow data speeds etc) If google maps is showing location that means gps is working so we can then troubleshoot the maptool thing. Also ensure that you have hyderabad maps downloaded since maptool will locate you there and if hyderabad maps are not present in the required folder (as per instructions) then it'll show white screen.

Will do that, but the zoom levels will have to be low since with high zoom levels each city is over 200mb. So all india would be many GBs. Will try if i can get upto 14 zoom level. Maybe it'll be better if you get some selected cities with 17-18 zoom levels.

Yes, sam1/password is working perfectly and although billing is data based (shown under rworld in bill) I don't keep it on all the time since callers will get engaged tone. Unfortunately my co accounts dept deducts data usage costs from bill and debits that to us as they say for data only bb should be used, so i need to keep it low. Mine was around 500-700/- last month. Your data bill will definitely be much lower on this than using your mobile number as login/pass since data transfer is quite low on phone while time connected is usually long (due to low 1x speeds and because of limited browsing/downloading capabilities of phones). However, if you are using phone as modem for browsing on PC/laptop then it may be better to use phone no as login/pass.

Want Crm For Small Business Like Mine..
ami1 replied to Sadikk's topic in General Technical Discussion
OK, given below is a list of some good opensource & free CRM &/or ERP solutions - I am assuming you wouldn't want to spend too much and comml ones are quite expensive. Many of these like opentaps compiere etc are used by MNCs like Toyota, Honeywell etc. so they aren't bad at all. There are some other opensource solutions like SugarCRM which have good support but they are not free - though cheaper than comml ones. However, before you get into these, here's some advise based on my own experiences earlier in my career in running a small company:- First, I would suggest that you decide exactly what (& WHY) you need a CRM solution for ? If you are looking at a small salesforce/workforce of say 10-20 people it may be better to use something simpler as CRM/ERP solutions will take up huge management bandwidth and also require a lot of rigidity in your internal policies and practices which are not possible for smaller businesses which are changing very quickly. Even if you are looking at a larger sales/work force, i would recommend hiring a good experienced marketing/sales manager rather than spending time and money on CRM/ERP. Its nearly impossible to fit the infinite range of human behaviours into a set of software rules unless you can afford to have a year or so of time to smoothen out & adapt your policies to your market/product & people and the deep pockets to keep paying the people while you do this. Its much better that each sales person uses his own low tech ways to keep track of his leads/calls/sales rather than centralizing such things. And 1-4 managers/team leaders give your simplified inputs on the performance and take your simple directions/strategy and convert it into actual tactical/operational plans for the salesmen. Things at the top of the business hierarchy need to be pretty simplified - and that can only happen if the responsibilities are given to some leaders down the line to use their own brains on how to achieve objectives within given costs & time budgets. Running a business like a techie is a big NO NO - unless you want to remain small & niche - & even then its difficult. You will need to keep your time & mind on your business rather than the shiny new complex software/hardware which eats up your days while your employees get lesser time to interact with you. You need to leave those things to others - EVEN IF THEY DO A MUCH WORSE JOB THAN YOU. You can only direct. Most probably what you need is a good contact manager, scheduler or some simple workflow system which can be done by using microsoft's outlook or access add-ins and some well though out paper forms and ledgers/journals. Here is a simple writeup/overview of CRM (from sugarcrm) - if you think carefully you'll realize that you need this ONLY AFTER your sales guys have been getting good & stable level of sales for at least 6-12 months and you are expanding rapidly and so your managers need these tools to perform better/quicker/cheaper. Till you are in the start up phase (ie products, customer segments & business models changing rapidly - since you are trying out different things to survive and junking what doesn't work while selecting & improving on what does..) you don't need these things really. Anyways, that my 2penny worth of thoughts. I am not really aware of your business plans so i could be entirely wrong. Here's the list of CRM packages/solutions (in the order of what i think would be good for you) opentaps opencrx vtiger openerp compiere hipergate civicrm Also here's some free & opensource online/e-commerce s/w - I think what what you really need is something like this to manage an online transaction point - if you're a techie then its always better not to compete with the offline people but to use your strengths and have more online presence with only the minimum required offline support. : ZenCart ApacheOpenForBusiness Broadleaf Whew ! Long Post. I can't seem to resist giving advice - must be growing old ! -
Since my main reason for being with cdma has been the better data speeds (& voice quality - though that is a little subjective or debatable), should I shift to 3G (ie GSM / WCDMA) once its launched ? Or does CDMA (EVDO) still have any benefits over 3G ? I want data & calls simultaneously - i guess that's possible in wcdma but not in evdo. Is that correct ? What are the gurus planning to do ?

^ BB Torch does have touch screen. I read on facebook that its available with Sadik for 30K ! (prebooking) - don't know if its the gsm version or sadik has managed to locate a cdma version. BB Torch does seem like a great device (for a BB. don't compare with incredible/evo/pre) -
Pre/pixi - Simple 1 File Backup/restore Of Sms Contacts Emails Call Log
ami1 replied to ami1's topic in Other handsets
Yes, your XP Tablet CD works perfectly. Thanks a ton, Doc. For Call blocking, there are 2-3 apps - search in preware under 'patches' section or use WOSQI and click Tweaks and then on the last tab you can scroll through and find call blocking apps. You can either opt for a 'per contact' call blocking patch which will allow you to select any contact and toggle it to call blocked (for any new numbers you create a new contact and block calls) or you can have the patch to block numbers not in the address book or 3rd patch is where a blocked calls contact is created and you keep adding all numbers to block into that contact. I have the first one - though i don't use it much anymore - i just don't pickup unknown numbers at all mostly (unless i am in a good mood !) There are also options to let the s/w quickly pickup & then disconnect the call so that callers keeps getting charged for a call. Group SMS i don't have much idea. I was assuming that the normal address book will allow us to make groups. Will see if i can find something. -
All About Treo 755p - Lets Discuss The Good And The Bad
ami1 replied to dkaile's topic in Other handsets
^ Do you have the Treo USB cable ? If yes, then you can run the Card Reader App which allows you to export /share the card over USB cable or Bluetooth. ( link ) You can install the app through the usb cable first and then run it and click on connect/export and your card will appear as usb drive on the PC Or see if you can rename your file as a jpg or png and copy/move it to DCIM folder on the Treo (where cam pics are preset) and then use Palm Desktop (Media Tab) connected through USB cable to copy them to your pc. If you don't have even the USB cable then it doesn't seem possible. -
For people trying out the unixpsycho kernels like SR71 or F104 or any other experimental overclocking kernels who get stuck in a reboot loop, you can avoid doctoring you pre by using the following process to memboot the pre by providing boot image from your PC or laptop during boot How to Memboot your Pre if an experimental Kernel puts it into a ReBoot Loop 1. Download: http://unixpsycho.co...alm-joplin-3430 2. Copy the file to your novacom folder a. for windows: program files\palm\sdk\bin b. for windows: /opt/Palm/novacom/ 3. Put your Pre into recovery mode (connect usb cable to PC and hold volume up key while putting in the battery – you will see a big USB icon on pre screen) 4. Run following command: a. on Linux: (after opening a shell) /opt/Palm/novacom/novacom boot mem:// < uImage-2.6.24-palm-joplin-3430 b. on Windows : (after running cmd.exe) cd \program files\palm\sdk\bin novacom boot mem:// < uImage-2.6.24-palm-joplin-3430 5. In case you get any error, try first opening a novacom command prompt to you pre first and keep it open while you run the command in s.no. 4 above. 6. Your pre will boot up and you can then delete the faulty kernel and install the recovery/stock palm kernel or whatever kernel was working fine for you.

^ The best option for phone w/o camera is definitely BB 8830. Anything else will be very basic and useless. He should try out the BB 8830 in hand and reconsider his decision. Otherwise only option for good phone w/o camera is to put a BIG STICKER on the camera in any good handset.
-
^ Don't worry even i got some error messages while creating profile for first few times (i also bought the pre from tushar - he wouldn't have created a profile mostly, so you can create a new one for yourself). Then after some time I could log in to the same profile (even though i never got success message while creating profile) So try if you can log in to the email & password you gave while trying to create profile. Also check that your browser etc is working and you are able to access palm.com in the browser.

BB guys are copying MY PALM PRE. Copy cats. ^ Great pics & review on above crackberry link. I think I'll really like this handset - at least it will have MUCH better build quality than palm pre, though it won't be able to match the lovely WebOS. Will RIM launch a CDMA version soon ?
