Cannot Connect To Reliance Network While On Roaming With Palm Treo 755
ami1 replied to vivekmukherji's topic in Other handsets
Well I think i faced a similar problem after buying Treo and going out of Mumbai the first time. Although my earlier handset (nokia 6265) used to work everywhere ie in roaming, the same number on Treo stopped working when i went to Ahmedabad and I had to call up customer care and get roaming activated AGAIN. This took the whole day but after that its been working in other cities w/o any problem. Funny part is that the 1st CC agent claimed roaming is activated and there must be some other problem. But the call got disconnected and i called second time when the 2nd agent said that system is showing roaming not activated and then he put in the request to activate roaming. After 5-6 hours it started working and hasn't stopped ever. Don't know if you're referring to similar problem or something else. Just thought i'll put in my experience. -

Am I correct in assuming these issues are only when browsing on phone using RWorld connection and not RConnect connection ? -

How To Jam A Gsm Mobile Phone Mannually
ami1 replied to satyanjoy's topic in General Technical Discussion
Yes this method is quite convenient & works. However, after 10-15 min of phone not contacting the tower, most networks again starts giving 'mobile is switched off' message so you may need to put back battery and switch phone on for a min or so & then take out battery again. -
How To Jam A Gsm Mobile Phone Mannually

Here my experience with doing this over the years: On reliance I used to enable 'forward all calls' (by dialing the forward all calls code or using the menu on nokia 6265) without first configuring any forwarding number. The caller would then not hear any ring only the words 'i am sorry' & disconnect. Call fwd can be disabled by dialing the requisite code. On some older samsung/lg phones we could unscrew the antenna and put phone inside anti static wrapping bag which is usually provided with motherboards or such electronic things. If you want you can try searching for how to make a 'Faraday Cage' which doesn't allow any RF inside. Or you can search for do it yourself GSM Jammer circuit which is quite cheap if you don't want more than a few meter range. Now on Treo i just use the call block application. -

@mufaddal: Yes, that's true. Preloaded maps would be much better than googlemaps. But this works ok, in the absence of other alternatives - have been trying to get a Mogul from Sadik for quite some time now but.... " Sadik has left the building " ! -

@Harshal / Mufaddal GPS works with this treo as good as with the Nokia 6265. In nokia i was using a Holux GPS device (purchased from ebay for 4K - holux 1000). This GPS is matchbox sized device with a bluetooth connection which transfers data to the phone and interfaces with google maps or mgmaps (mgmaps.com) Initially, there were 2 problems with Treo: 1. I was unable to connect treo to holux which uses BT serial port profile. 2. Google Maps for Palm doesn't have any menu option for connecting to BT GPS device. On googling i found that there is a software called WAI (where am i) - attached below or can be downloaded from mytreo.net/downloads/where-am-i,1172.html or http://wfmh.org.pl/carlos/ whereami_1.9_for_google_maps_gps.zip This app is able to connect Palm/Treo to holux or other GPS devices over bluetooth SPP and then it runs google maps and shows current position on the map in real time (as in nokia 6265). In both Nokia 6265 as well as Treo 755p there is no turn by turn navigation etc. But once you can see the roads and your own position you can easily navigate. The requirement of internet connection has never been a problem as after connecting to rconnect/rworld I use google maps extensively in map as well as satellite view (for quite extended durations w/o treo going into dormant mode and not waking up etc.) * In case you don't have a GPS device & still want to try WAI out then you can select 'mimic gps' option and it will generate a random lat-long for current gps location. Then select 'show my location in googlemaps' and it will run googlemaps and show this position on googlemaps. Pl. note that many times random lat-longs will be over the ocean so you will have to zoom out 5-6 times otherwise all you'll see is blue background. My only minor problem has been that WAI always runs the old googlemaps which comes preinstalled in the sprint ROM. As per WAI FAQ, it can only call the ROM version. The my location feature in some phones I think is tower based and not accurate as it can only triangulate to 0.5-1 km accuracy while most GPS devices incl the holux i have even show on which side of the road i am (if you're zoomed in fully) Hope that helps. -

Thanks mufaddal. Have another query: I have a holux keychain GPS which i used successfully with Nokia 6265 by connecting over Bluetooth (serial profile) and using Google Maps. For Palm I found that there's a program called "where am i" which is able to connect over bluetooth to GPS and is then able to call Google Maps and show the current GPS position on it. However, it has a known limitation that it calls up the old version of Google Maps from ROM (1.2) and not the updated one which we install (for eg 2.0.2) Is there any way to overwrite the preinstalled ROM applications in Treo ? or any other way to get this app to call the new google maps. Thanks for taking out so much time to reply to my queries and also the Docs to Go 11 solution. -

Flash Player for Palm Treo: There's a flash player for Palm OS which works quite nicely on my treo 755p. Seems to have been ported from the Flash Player for Sony Clie. Attached below. flashInstaller.zip Also attached are some SWF games and a HP scientific Calculator which work in this. palm_swf_games_etc.zip All SWFs have to be copied to /PALM/Programs/MMFLASH (create the folder if its not there) If flash player shows 'loading...' for more than a few seconds press menu button and select Mid or Low resolution instead of High resolution. While most SWFs from the web will work, if its too CPU intensive then it'll take too long to load/run. Does anyone know how to get this to render flash in opera mini or blazer ? -
OK. On treo i am able to watch even 720p video (without even downsizing it first) with exceptional quality and no frame drops or audio sync problems. Surprisingly, we'd been struggling to get that done on a small embedded system with a P4 and intel onboard graphics ! - we had to use a nvidia card finally which created size/power problems. Makes it difficult to decide between the Treo & Mogul. If only the treo had wifi/gps and no internet problems or the Mogul had call recording & good video drivers etc. Maybe the best option is to own both Mogul & Treo like you Mufaddal ! Sorry for posting about Treo in mogul forum; couldn't resist.

Am unable to receive calls when Treo 755p is online/connected to the net. Callers get an engaged tone. Is this normal for Treo ? I was able to receive calls while online in my Nokia 6265, although opera would quit after the call. Even if the internet arrows are grey and not green & I am not using any email/browser etc. the callers still get engaged tone. Is there some way to fix this on treo so that calls can be received while online ? Thanks. -

What is device address ask something like 00:00:00:00:00:00 In my case I wasted 15 minutes while forgetting to set the TREO on "Visible" so my laptop couldn't see it. Just check. On touching the bluetooth icon (on TREO) the drop down for visibility will be shown (if bluetooth is on). I GTS WR game installed which was earlier SOLVED properly when my treo hotsync ID/name was dd. Amitabh i think a ltl sympathy is required for New users too who are not well versed with the enormus things Treo is capable off doing (and not doing) but its the goodness of the members that people like me even think of buying PDA phones.... Sorry, didn't mean in it that way at all. I am myself a new user and must have spent tens of hours understanding/trying all things and asking numerous questions to these guys. Actually i was thinking of answering some of your queries but never got around to finding the time so I realized that the gurus here must be spending a lot of time in helping us. thats all. No doubt that we new users need to ask a lot of queries to understand these phone etc. and its only because of such forum/users that we even think of buying these. Regards. -

Anyone has Mundu IM with the solution ? I had downloaded Mundu 4.0 (solved) attached with one of the posts but it says missing some libs. Then i installed Mundu trial from mundu website and overwrote with the solved mundu and it worked for some time but started giving an error 'can not work on this device'. The Mundu trial works fine but obviously expires after a few days. Thanks in advance. (after reading kets4u's queries I realized how difficult it must be to keep answering the queries of the new people buying TREO/HTC or other handsets....) -

No you will not lose reliance settings etc. I have just updated yesterday. Just use NVBackup to make a backup first and then connect with cable to PC and run the sprint file on pc. It will give directions for the rest. Don't forget to nvbackup as apps/contacts etc. will be erased so you will need to install nvbackup after the rom update and then do restore by selecting the backup you made (on the sd card)
