Hi Greatest, I work as a volunteer at a Religious institute "Shri Swami Samartha Mathh, Shrivardhan". We are in the process of creating a website. What will be the yearly cost henceforth to maintain the site? This site will be mostly stationary, with only static pages, and hardly any dynamic pages. Will your offered product be helpful in my case? -

Kamalbhai, gift him a good cycle, and a camera. Both will cost in total around 6k ( talking about a normal cycle and budget camera, not the high fundu cycles). Gym is not advisable. Swimming may get too repetitive. Besides, swimming at this age may make him grow very tall very fast. My vote is for cycle + cam. EDIT: On lighter note, gift him a brother/sister next year start planning now only, so by next Jan you will have the gift ready! (j/k, don't take it in bad way)

Mumbai's Death Trap: 10 Railway Commuters Die Per Day
ani_meher replied to kshah's topic in The Lounge
kalpeshaparmar: sorry to hear your loss May your sister RIP. In Mumbai, the cheapest commodity is life. Each day, 5.30 to 8.30 timing is a deathtrap time on all stations. On 26/11, the terrorists hit at bit late time. God forbid if the attack would be few hours earlier, the death number would be tremendously high. I truly feel for mumbai people including myself, no leader to look to, no policy to make life better for common people. Just pay taxes and live in fear -
Win7 for sure. I never went for Vista, didn't think it was worth an upgrade from XP. Even XP I was using with old windows theme only. Windows 7 is a real upgrade, with everything working smoothly. I tried Linux many times in past, but each time the learning curve failed me. SOme thing or the other just wouldn't work. EDIT: The last time Linux failed me was this. I was working on a pretty old PC with very less RAM, and wanted to play some movies on it. By default, movies just won't play, or even VLC played them very jerkily. In XP, I went to System properties and increased Cache size, and voila, all the movies were played effortlessly. I was using puppy linux too, as dual boot. No matter what, I just couldn't find the cache RAM to increase, and hence the movies never played smoothly This is just one example. That was the time that I stopped playing with Linux, and focused more on getting work done!

I can't contribute much technically, but I compensate that (I hope) by posting nice deals, ways to save money n stuff. Non techies can try this route.

This is NOT a spam thread. This thread is genuine money saving guide for many people like me, who like good stuff, but are careful about price too. About the topic in hand, as to how to save money on home appliance. When we buy anything, the price is MRP, that is, Maximum Retail Price. The name itself puts me off! I like to buy at MINIMUM Retail Price, not maximum! So this tip will save a lot of precious thousands. I was getting bugged by wife for a frige at home. We selected Samsung 230 liters single door, because the 190 and 210 liters contain two racks, and 230 one contains 3. Also, we had no use for huge ice compartment, so focussed on the single doors alone. It costed some 14000rs with stand, without bargain. With bargain, a couple hundred less. Then I started hunting the market. Usually when the buyers buy at MRP, they want their products to be spotless, not even a thumbprint. So if the product gets damaged in transit, it is scrapped completely. But what defines a damage? You will be surprised to know, that even a one inch light scratch classifies the product is damaged! Such so called 'scrap' pieces are bought by dealers who may retouch the appliance and sell, or even directly sell without bothering to do anything more. Such products are available for atlest 30% discount than MRP. I found such store in Pune It takes patience and hope to wait for your product to arrive at them , because product availabiity is more of luck than surity for them. But luckily, the same fridge was in stock with them, and I got it shipped at home for 10k a cool 4000 rs saving on a brand new stuff. With Samsung, the warranty is covered by company, so I got as much warranty as a showroom piece would get. YOu have to really look hard to notice the small dent on the front left. We couldn't find it for a long time, then when he brought the fridge out in open, then in sunlight we sat the dent. 4k for a small dent is good compensation I think For future reference, I checked out a Samsung 22inch LCD TV. It was costing some 16-18k in the market. There, it has some scratches on the bottom button panel, and thus was scrapped. It was costing 12K with Samsung warranty! Now I know where I'd be heading if I am planning to buy a TV! They had many such stuffs, microwave ovens, TVs, washing machines, fridges etc. Only Samsung gives company warranty on such items, other companies don't provide any warranty. In that case, the dealer himself provides the warranty, but how reliable can that be is a question. So anyways, I hope this tip would save you good amount of money. I will NOT be putting the name of that dealer here because I don't want to advertise free of cost! He is on Pune-Wagholi road. You may PM me for name and number. I hope someone will be able to offer me similar tip on saving money on Chevrolet Spark in Pune! Anyone?

@dkaile : Why are you paying Rs 750 extra? The official price for the stuff you listed is 21750, except for that bluetooth dongle. You will get one from outside for 50-100 rs.

For past few days, I am very much impressed by mechanical skeleton watches. The original ones in Titan costs some 10k-15k! But we can get some chinease made from ebay for about 700-1000rs, which definitely look good. Have a loot at the attached images, and see for yourself. If you have/had a skeleton watch, how was your experience? Did it require too much maintenance? If I order a watch from ebay, would I have to pay any duty. What would the duty be if at all it is caught?
-
Sorry I forgot to update this thread. I bought 4th watch in August. The cost was some 1000rs shipped to Mumbai. It never fails to attract attention! Only gripe is I have to wind it daily. Really a very impressive watch.

Thanks for your suggestions guys! Thanks for the superb reply! I really appreciate the time taken to answer the query I know bro. It's no problem. All in all, I think my choice is now reduced to wall fan or tower fan. I am still keeping the tower fan option open, because I read on a site that there are two types of tower fans, the smaller ones work as you describe. The taller ones are sufficient for a whole room. But wall fans are now certainly on my list. Any idea as to what company I should stick to? Above mentioned Cinni, doesn't operate in Pune. How are Usha, Bajaj, CG etc? Also, there are these two fans by Usha: Rs. 1995 Rs. 1350 Extra powerful motor for higher air delivery Powder coated steel parts with anti-corrosive treatment for longer life Can be used as a table fan, a wall mounted fan or a ceiling mounted fan
-
+1. It is not refurbished. It's a brand new piece with cosmetic damage.
-
I stay in a rented house, that's why can't pop in a fan in ceiling. Besides, tower/table fan is portable, so I can take it with me. In Pune, usually fans are needed only 4 months a year, rest of the times it is cool enough. But when they are needed, they are needed badly!
