Dear friends, good morning. I had a Samsung N 191 which served my nicely for 3 years. Now it is dead (almost. It works some times only at my home. so I can not call it mobile any more!) Now I want to switch to another handset. Can you recommend /suggest the following info. (I think this will be useful for other users as well) Make : Model No: Supports Rconnect : Yes or No Colour : Yes or No battery life : Approx Cost:(V imp factor) Other Features : Camera/FM/MP3 etc., Your experience voice : good /average/poor data : good /average/many breaks any other relavant info.., (edit these parameters as applicable). I request many to reply since the idea about your h/s may be very trivial to you. but for us ( we started journey with RIM three year , but did not follow it up). There are so many handsets somany features and Webword guys will give some info which may be true or not. But I expect info from other users to be more reliable. I searched this forum but did not find any info( independent of brand. I got some info under diff brands like LG/NOkia etc., but that is not complete. I strongly feel this info under the folder :Rconnect will be more useful. thanks for sparing your time rgds prasad

Thanks for the reply Utsav. This document contains as you rightly said lot of (updated) information. But unfortunately it does not talk about Rconnect or as they call it Reliance-Netconnect. Anyhow now I had dropped the idea and went for LG 2690 with a new no and Offer. Now I had a different question. can I use it for Rconnect? It supports LG-USBC 1000. But I think this is only for connecting and sync with PC(for downloading tel.data like phone numbers etc.,) I do not know whether it will work or not as a modem (esp 2690) If I try I will let you know. ****added by prasad*** After acquiring little more gyan now I understand that we have 2 different speeds of connectivity {A}connecting with your pc and communicating data between ur pc-phone (but not on air) this you can use on all LG phones whether they are RLite Matrix (low end) or Java Matrix(high end) type . here again you can 2 types of connectors either serial port or USB port. That is what their site and "handset experience" link on rel.info (see specifications/accessories) is telling. they 2 different connectors. {B} connecting with remote computer network using your phone as a modem which requires high speed connectivity(netconnect) which only few models do offer. On the low end models the starting model is Nokia 2112 with data connectivity. that is why a b/w 2112 costs ~Rs 3200 where as in GSM you get a Nokia 1600 colour mobile for ~Rs2800(no modem). R-world story is different. depending upon the model or group(java/brew/rlite) you can use all /few Rworld applications.. That is what the handset tracker.xls file was trying to explain. Now our Rconnect compatible handset question is still incomplete and unanswered **********adding ended*********** regards prasad_Ind

Hi friends, Once again may I request you to provide info about Rconnect enabled handsets. of anymake. whether it is without camera b/w,coloour it does not matter. please mention the est.price (if known) and colour/bw and experience with it. I am asking this because the info on relianceinfo.com in handsets section is not complete. for many sets they just do not mention Rconnect. Does it mean it does not support it? what is the min cost one has to pay for b/w rconnect enabled set? similarly what is the min price one has to pay for a colour set? in this regards your info will be useful for all of us. (ps. if your handset info is already mentioned by some one , you may skip giving reply) ( no need for duplicate entries) with best regards prasad

Did anyone face this peculiar problem? Samsung N191 : works fine in my area : Sleeps any outside area still in the same city I reside at Indore. My phone works normally at my residence without any problem. but when I go into city the phone stops responding. Even when the signal is full. If I try to call I do not get any response. Many times it just drops the signal level to zero and remains like that for some(otherwise simply it is not possible to have zero signal next to the tower !). All my friends say they can not reach me. I went to the samsung service centre. They say they have to replace the mother board. I am surprised,. because if the circuit is bad it should give problem even at my residence. and the problem should be coupled to signal level and not to where I am? secondly when I went on a vacation this phone used to work in some places and it just stops at many places! Did anybody face similar problem? I have seen prev. mails and I am going to try putting my home number as a emergency number and see what happens thanks everybody. rgds prsad indore.

I require help regarding installation of Rconnet dialer on my home pc running on Win2k. I am using Rconnect successfully on that machine+win Me but unable to install on win2k. everytime I install the modem, the message "model detection failed" message comes and installatio is to be aborted. I repeated model installation/ from Rconnect CD all failed with same message appearing everytime. what is the error i am doing? i tried to remove all the drivers of my modem ( samsung N191+usb cable) but no success. i tried to search this forum for the solution with word "win2k" or "windows" in the rconnect section but did not see solution (for win2k) . so posting again. (did I miss earliler postings!) regards prasad

hi regarding the battery problem I had just purchased a chinese battery for my N191 at Indore - Jail road for 250Rs. The information I have got there is a- that batteries are available from 180 -300. b- two brands seem to be alright one is called gsm and another one is called 'cs' or some thing like that "cino indian" looks to be alright c they give 7days - 15/20 days gurantee d they said do not charge it for more than 1 hour e i am happy with the performance . it is lasting for 1 day (read below) ok what happened with my set about one year back i dropped accidentally my n191 set into a bucket of water and picked it up after 2 min. it stopped working . after some drying up it again started working. in addition to this mobile falls from my hands every other day. then it started (battery) only for 4-5 hrs max. then i purchased a original samsung charger for 150/- and now i replaced the battery with chinese one. the one i had purchased is called as "gsm" it has following marks on it: environmental friendly batttery for sam n191/n195 3.7v 800mAh Li-ion some instructions Cellular TOP (made in chine) a hologram "CHAO LI TONG/ CLT/Cellular TOp" btw this is a iso 9001: 2001 company hope this is helpful to you regards prasad- indore

I completely agree with the views expressed above. It is simple. If you use it then pay it. For example when then R-World was made PAID I completely stopped using since my basic requirement was to call others using this RIM phone. R-World was not essential for me. I had spent two years with RIM. Yes I had many problems with these fellows. (customer care). But suprisingly I was never a] excess billed - NO never b] billing details are in clear terms - No juglary (* this I compare with my friend's AIRTEL bill which is so complex that it will take 10-15 minutes to ANALYZE that bill and you must be good at CALCULUS , ALGEBRA etc., to understand that bill) c] roaming concept is user friendly and simple d] they are providing best possible tariffs when you use pre/postpaid with calling cards ** I had shifted from DAPO -> J199 -> J99 since my usage was limited. so overall I am quite happy with the Rel.Info company. So I do not wish that we make it more complex by trying to cheat/bypass it. regards

My friend enquired about DAPO-R-Connect charges Reply is these 50p-25p will NOT be deducted from plan charges. I asked them what to do. their reply is by default you will be charged at 50/25p (are being charged from 22nd) if you are already in zero rental plan . if you r in silver/gold you can shift to new plans till mar 05. this info is available in r-world. i have shifted from dapo->budgest149 -> New Joy 149 since my usage is low. i do not use sms much. now i can browse at night/day without much hesitation. i can not compare with bsnl really. i used to confuse/complain the difference in std rates 2.99 ( rim - NJ149) to 2 (BSNL). i think for being mobile this is premium i have to pay. so when i am stationary (access to landline is available) i use vcc card. similarly net connection. this gives me internet connectivity at office and home with same phone. slighly expensive but alright if netspeeds is slightly better than 3-4 kbps(what we get landline) rgds prasad

Absolutely right. Before seeing this page I had called cust.service and asked the same. One "shilpa" replied saying that if you use activate and deactivate they will charge only prorata. But I am not sure of quanta. May be it is a day( ie., even if you activate ,use and deactivate and this whole thing took say an hour you may be still charged for a day 200/30 +actual call charges ( mins*40p) ) But it is still good that it is prorata. so we can use it as and when we want. and deactivate it . best wishes prasad

The relianceinfo.com site says that for fwp/t the isp charges are collected prorata . ie for every minute you use rconnect a 10paisa will be charged in addition to call charges. for relinace india mobile there is flat 200Rs/month charge if you use rconnect in additional to call charges (40p/min) So fwp is much economical that way if you do not insist upon mobile. Why the relinace does not charge prorate for rel.mobile as well? any idea? rgds prasad

as I understand the "dormant" is like "stand by" in pc's etc., it will be continuously hearing for the user requests otherwise it keeps the overhead between the handset and tower to the minimum. As far as the charges are concerned Reliance is coming up with some other options like Rs 200 + 40p/min Rs 500 (X MB /month free up&download ) + 40 p/min thereafter Rs 1000 (Y MB /month free up&download ) + 40 p/min thereafter amn't sure about X, Y values but may be 100,250 respectively. correct me if i am wrong. So they want to make sure that you pay up some min amount irrespective of your usage. On the otherhand I read a news article saying that MTNL was offering charges /MB down(up)load so they will calculate your total data input and output size from your pc <-> server and they will charge you. fair enough. had requested reliance for similar one. Instead of Rs 200 fixed they can always charge Rs X / MB where they is transparancy. regards sai subha

I want to know about this 200Rs/month charges. Is this applicable to all subscribers including DAPO or they are exempted from this? ( after Mar 2004) regards
