Dear Mr. Ganesan, Tata DoCoMo is operating on the GSM 1800 MHz frequency in most of the circles since the GSM 900 MHz frequency has already been used up. I guess it should be 1800 MHz in Tamil Nadu too, but I don't have any authentic source of information to support it. -

Dear Mr. Shashank, I tried Karnataka Tata DoCoMo CC (09036012345) form AP Tata Indicom/Idea/Airtel. I got the reply "The number you have dialed does not exist, please check it and redial". Probably the point-of-interconnection (POI) is not yet activated between Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh. Could you please tell me from which network & at what time you tried Karnataka CC number..... -

Dear Mr. K Shah, Tata Tele and RCOM can roam on each others networks provided they both have signed Roaming Agreement with each other. I'm sorry, I don't have any information with regard to that. Roaming agreements commonly are used where no one company can offer complete national and international coverage. -

Dear Mr. Kanaga Deepan, Unlike Tata Indicom, where any sort of Tata phone (mobile/walky/wire-ine) would be un-conditionally considered on-net, Tata DoCoMo is not considering both Walky & Wire-line as on-net. Only mobiles (DoCoMo/Indcom/Virgin Mobile) are considered as on-net currently by Tata DoCoMo. Source: Tata DoCoMo TN CC team. -

Please dont bring negativity to the positive discussion that is going on. Does it really matter whether he is tata employee or a reliance employee? Is it mentioned in the rule books that an employee of tata cannot be a member of this forum. Has Mr. Bhargava told anyone to buy tata docomo or contact him for a connection? He is just another enthusiast like we are! I love his spirit. You have to be one such person to understand his zeal. Hats off to him! If you have info related to the topic - share with us. We would really appreciate that. Dear Mr. Sonam Kumar, Thank you so much for your support!! -

Dear Mr. Ravi, I just want to say that I'm currently not a Tata employee !! I'm currently pursuing my medical internship at NRI Medical College in Andhra Pradesh. I could not understand what strategy you are talking about......? My college URL: http://www.nrias.com My professional information as a part of NRIAS: http://www.nriasalumni.com/contact/executive_board.htm There are strong reasons why I admire Tata Group so much, but I can't explain it here. Sorry for discussing something that was off-topic! -

Himanshu, I bet,the local rates were 1 and 2.40 respectively for local and STD when True paid was launched. May be you were in a costly tariff. I agree with you, Mr. Sonam Kumar! I got my Tata Truepaid mobile (Nokia 2112) in the first month of the launch and my mother used Airtel, so I got the chance to use both at same point in time. -

Dear Mr. Himanshu Kumar, Tata Indicom introduced it's Prepaid (Truepaid) services in September 2004 click here for proof. Airtel slashed it's pre-paid tariffs bringing down the local call charges to Rs. 1/Min in August 2004 (a month before Tata Truepaid launch). Click here for proof. Tariffs apart, the Platform (CDMA/GSM) related issues that I mentioned are more important than anything else and hold true why Tata Tele and RCOM forayed into GSM. It's true that CDMA company can never be compared with GSM company, at least in India. -

Dear Mr. Himanshu Kumar, 1) Yes, you are right Tata Indicom started its prepaid as Truepaid and initially offered local calls at 3 paise/sec and STD calls at 5 paise/sec. Which adds up as Rs. 1.80/Min for a local call and Rs. 3/Min for STD call. Though the per-second offering was quite interesting, it was not at all competitive, because other operators were providing local calls at Rs. 1/Min and STD at Rs. 2.40/Min which was far cheaper than Tata Indicom. Though the per-second billing was good, soon this offer proved to be detrimental to even moderate users and soon this tariff structure was phased-out and standard tariff was put in place. Later, starting from around the year 2005 Tata Indicom started offering some of the best voice tariffs which got even better as time passed. The reasons why Tata Indicom has under-performed is a different story altogether (I mentioned it below) and has little or nothing to do with its tariff offerings or network robustness. 2) CDMA operator could never be compared with a GSM operator on any terms, atleast in India. Reason being: (i). lower ARPUs (Average Revenue per User) of CDMA compared to GSM. (ii). lack of availability of wide range of handset models in CDMA segment. (iii). CDMA is a proprietary technology of Qualcomm which demands rolalty fees for every CDMA phone manufactured anywhere in the world, while GSM is an open technology. (iv). The Telecom Ministry is biased in terms of spectrum allocation and is more favorable to GSM service providers. (v). CDMA on the whole was considered inferior/cheaper by many people who don't have much knowledge about radio technologies. (vi). Roaming is a big hassle with CDMA network, especially International roaming. Even national roaming on another CDMA network is restricted in India. (vii). There are several other miscellaneous issues like: (*) There is no USSD in CDMA. (*) Call conference setup is not as easy as in GSM. (*) SMS characters are restricted to 160 per message, there is no option of multi-linking as in GSM. (*) CDMA phones manufactured before 2007, had poor power management, they drain battery if there is no network. Having said this, I'd like to say that CDMA certainly is technically superior to GSM, but most people didn't cared it and was not a commercial success in India at least in the voice segment. -

Dear Members, Well....I think it's too early to say anything about the tariff offerings, because market dynamics will ultimately decide them. Even if Tata Tele changes any of it's offerings, it will be & should be better than it's competitors, as the company cannot afford anymore major mistakes. Despite offering some of the best voice tariffs, Tata Indicom still struggules to gain substintial market share, this is mostly attributed to being a CDMA operator and partly to sluggish company operations. Hard lessons were learnt from Tata Indicom operations till now and in the wake of the under-performance, Tata Teleservices is now more aggressive and more determined to stay ahead in the business. But the change came at a high price, because owning, running and maintaining two technologically independent telecom networks could have adverse financial implications on the company. I'm confident that Tata Tele would certainly emerge as a market leader in the near future. I just pray and hope the best for Tata Teleservices. -
