  6. Does the phone have SMS delivery reports ?? Nayan
  7. Kshah : in- building penetration has nothing to do with CDMA or GSM. It is based on the frequency on which the network operates. Reliance and Tata operate on 800 Mhz and this is the reason that their in-building penetration is better that the GSM networks which operate on 900 or 1800 Mhz. Ofcourse, in a given place, a GSM network may show signal where a CDMA network does not show any signal, the cause being the distance from the tower. If the distance is the same and the power of the transmission is the same, then 800 mhz has max in-building penetration. The advantage of higher frequencies is that they offer hinger capacities. That is why 3G is generally on higher frequencies. Nayan My ranking is based on number of call drops. But if GSM signals are not caught, I am sure CDMA signals will not be there. CDMA has lower penetration than GSM.
  8. Sms On Windows Mobile 6.1

Which are the windows mobile 6.1 devices which work on the reliance network ?

  11. Voice Memo Support In Motorol V9m

I use lg 6250. It is possible to record both sides of a phone conversation. However, I have not been able to figure out a way of transferring/copying the file out of the phone. I remember that with the Gtran, it was possible to record only the other party's voice, not your own. Supernova : (a) does the moto V9M support recording both sides of the conversation ? ( is it possible to copy or transfer the files on to a computer ?
  12. Blackberry 8703e

Ramchi : My question would be - Are you a Reliance Shareholder? I have no shares in any ADAG group company. But what made you think that I do ?
  13. Blackberry 8703e

"You will become your number otherwise!" Deeply philosophical ! Have not seen such insights on RIMWEB. What do you do for a living, Ramchi ? Are you a philosopher ?
  14. Blackberry 8703e

Ramchi : what kind of data speeds are you getting on the SE device without EDGE? I remember when i was using a gsm nokia in the pre-EDGE days, the data speeds were unworkably slow.
  15. Blackberry 8703e

waseemkazi : thanks for the detailed reply> One more question : what is the maximum length of sent sms that the reliance bb 8703e allows ? and how does it handle long sms received ? I am currently using an lg 6250 on reliance. It breaks up long outgoing text messages into parts with max. 160 characters in each part. Similarly, long incoming messages are also broken up into different messages of 160 character length. How does the BB 8703e handle long messages ? On gsm nokia s60 devices, neither outgoing nor incoming long messages are broken into different segments
  16. Blackberry 8703e

kshah : are you using the Treo 700p on reliance ? if so, how have you managed to make it work on the network ? vishalsheth : does the treo 680 have delivery reports ?
  17. Blackberry 8703e

Vishalsheth : Are you happy with the reliance utstarcom ppc ? How does it compare with the Treo 680 ? I had earlier used a Treo 650 on airtel but gave up because it kept freezing all too often. Also, the speakerphone was not effective, bluetooth unstable and there were no sms delivery reports. Does the Treo 680 address these issues ?
  18. Blackberry 8703e

I would be obliged if you gave me your opinion on the BB 8703e (other than commercial/billing issues). I am currently using a Nokia E61i with BB connect from airtel. The service is perfectly acceptable, but the handset has a big problem : it keeps freezing and slowing down constantly. I shifted from the E61 which had similar problems. I am considering shifting to reliance bb for dedicated messaging (email, IM and SMS) as i have a DAPO number, and the Reliance network, because of the 800 Mhz frequency has terrific in-building penetration. (very useful in bombay's big buildings). I know that the bb 8703 will be good as an email device. How is it for sms ? Does it have threaded SMS ? What is the number of sms messages that can be stored on the device ? Can they be backed up on the desktop, and if so how many can be backed up ? Does it keep freezing or slowing down ? How does IM work, particularly gtalk. I plan to use airtel for voice and reliance bb for data and sms.
  19. Blackberry 8703e

Waseemkazi : where have u disappeared ?? Any one else using BB 8703e ???
  20. Blackberry 8703e

Is there anyone here actually using the BB8703e ??

  22. Cdma Vs Gsm

From the user's perspective, CDMA v. Gsm is only one issue. The other huge issue is the frequency band. Indian CDMA providers operate on 800 MHz which has certain unique properties : its in-building penetration is far superior to 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz (the GSM bands in India). Further, the signal is propogated over a much longer distance , leading to better reception in areas which do not have many towers. On the other hand, 1800 MHz is much better for data services. Notice that Airtel data is much faster in Mumbai (where Airtel operates on the 1800 Mhz frequency) than in Delhi (where it operates on the 900 Mhz frequency). CDMA provides a much larger pipe than GSM and hence Reliance at 800 mHz offers the same speed as Airtel at 1800 Mhz.
  23. Genius, can you use the phone with two cdma cards ? Or does "only cdma" mean that only one cdma card works at a time ? sorry for the typos in my earlier post
  24. Hidden Airtel Plan
