Reliance is also busy doing a Fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) for it's broadband. (that means optic fiber cable is laid upto the kerb of the building ... and then on using a CAT-5 (used for cable tv). They will also be having a metro ethernet (same as what HK company has done). (Actually, reliance's metro ethernet is already being sold to corportes ... I recall congizant bought into it for it's chennai offices). For retail, they were planning to do it, before they go their IPO, expected Dec'05

Reliance mobiles to cost less than Rs.1,500 Publish Date : 5/6/2005 7:53:00 PM Source : Moneyplans.net Staff In a bid to expand market share, telecom service provider Reliance Infocomm will slash mobile handset prices by half to cost less than Rs.1,500. "The company is poised to slash handset prices by over 50 percent in the next three months," a senior Reliance Infocomm official said. "Higher handset prices are a major deterrent for growth in a price-sensitive market like India. Talks are on with handset vendors for bringing down the price to $30 (Rs.1,300)," the official said. In February, Motorola, the US handset maker, had announced plans to sell $30 phones in developing countries, including India. The official, however, did not confirm whether Reliance was in talks with Motorola. Reliance, which offers CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)-based telecom services, feels the move would drive its growth by 10-fold from the current subscriber base of 10.2 million to 100 million in the next 3 years. India's total telephone subscriber based crossed the 100 million mark last month http://www.moneyplans.net/frontend2-verify-6621.html

Heard over CNBC, Infocomm posted a profit of 51 crore in FY05 !!! -- by what they seemed to say, it looks that it's the profit for all of the year Apr'04-Mar'05. It's already known that the 9 month loss (Apr'04-Dec'04) was Rs. 272 crore. If they managed to wipe that entire thing in Q4 .... it's simply incredible. From a loss of Rs. 6 crore in Q3 to a profit of 323 crore in Q4 is great perfomance on a sequential basis. I am still wondering, what really did it for them in Q4 !!!!!! And off coure waiting for the news to listed in print on the internet. (to make sure i got it right from TV )
-
Yeah .. so what I understood was indeed correct ... 323 crore profit on Q4 !! Certainly not from higher subscirber numbers alone: They added about 1 million new (& paying) subscribers ... & got rid of the old non-paying 1 milion ... so the total is same as end of Q3. The new 1 million paying subscribers ... even if paying @400 per month >>> 400 million x 3 = 1200 million in the quarter. That makes, Rs. 120 cr extra profit in Q4 (assuming additional operating costs on the new subscribers are nil ... as is very likely in telecom business). So, where do the remaining (323-120) = Rs. 200 crore come from. Whopping amount --- and that 200 crore is the real mismatch (120 crore profit was anyway expected) ?????? Not from loss-elimination (in Q3 it was only 56 crore ... so that's all they could squeeze out) !!! And what happened to the penalty to the government .... that should have reduced the "expected" 120 crore profit itself !!!
-
I would think someone doing that as rather silly. I love to watch Aajtak, CNBC, IndiaTv news on rworld, which continues to be free .... on my LG 5230 ..... The streaming videos look really marvellous on color handset with a speaker phone. ... and btw .... even for an Rworld enabled handset & postpaid connection, you need not pay membership fees, if you don't want to ... just convert to the day plan ... which charges you Rs. 3/- for only the days you use the "M" apps.
-
500 would be fabulous ... if it were for unlimited time and unlimited download .... but there is no chance that it would be so. (I think it would be for unlimited time; 1GB download & valid 1 month). That is good . .but they should also come out with some Rs. 200/- net voucher, valid for 1 month (and whatever data limit .. say 100 mb or 200 mb)
-
Sir, the majority of their jhols have not been caught ... and there is a 233 crore loss for RIL shareholders (who own Infocomm) .... but the private swiss bank accounts show huge profits Off course the big jhols are not meant to be talked about. keep quiet
-
Oh Really !!! I think there may be a simple solution to this problem >>> Just don't recharge you prepaid for 15 days ... and old balance gets wiped out (They just turn the existing positive balance to ZERO at the end of 15 day grace period. It their automated database query is not that smart -- very likely it isn't -- it would convert the negative balance to zero as well. Thereafter you could use the same handset connection by recharging over a ZERO balance !!! Btw.. even if some one would recharge and all the talktime would get adjusted with the negative balance .. but the validity would still remain ... so u could use it for incoming (if my Plan A above is found not to work) ... Secondly, recharging with a 440 voucher would let your outgoing to RIMs also intact, inspite the -ve balance. (These off course are Plan B .. if the Plan in A does not work). A Plan C is also there ... just use a handset change card for Rs. 22 !!! and get another GSK RELIANCE THROWS UP INTELECTUALLY STIMULATING CHALLENGES >> PROBABLY THEY ARE TRYING TO BOOST THE IQ LEVEL OF RIM USERS (currently this IQ booster service seems to be free ... will they start charging it later )

That was R-Connect and not R-World! 29408[/snapback] This is what I found from news archives: (see the portion I highlighted in RED) http://www1.economictimes.indiatimes.com/a...eshow/30198.cms TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2003 04:36:24 AM] Sign into earnIndiatimes points MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm announced two new tariff plans with tariffs of Re 1 per minute for local and STD calls within the circle and up to 50 kms (even for calls ending outside a circle) for WLL phones including Reliance. For STD calls outside the circle and for distances over 50 kms, the tariff is Rs 1.99 per minute for WLL phones. Under the two plans, subscribers have to pay monthly rentals of Rs 149 and Rs 249 respectively and monthly charges of Rs 100 and Rs 150 respectively. In return they get free outgoing talktime worth Rs 100 and Rs 150 respectively. SMS will be charged at 50 paise per message under these plans. Apart from a rate of Re 1 per minute for local and STD calls within a circle to GSM phones for the Rs 249 plan, the rate is a uniform Rs 1.99 per minute for all local and STD calls within a circle and outside a circle for calls from Reliance phones to GSM and fixed phones. In the case of fixed phones, the Rs 1.99 per minute rate is applicable for STD calls outside the circle up to 200 kms. Effectively, under the first plan, subscribers pay Rs 249 monthly and get 100 minutes at the rate of Re 1 per minute or roughly 50 minutes at Rs 1.99 per minute. Under the second plan, subscribers pay Rs 400 and get 150 minutes at the rate of Re 1 per minute or roughly 75 minutes at Rs 1.99 per minute. They will also get free caller line identification, call hold and call wait facility. The security deposits have been waived for local, STD and ISD facilities. Besides, no processing or activation fee will be charged. A customer subscribing to these plans can also enjoy the benefits of the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer, including free handsets, by becoming a member of the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Club. The customer can become a member of the club by subscribing to either the three membership options at an upfront payment of Rs 6,350, Rs 4,850 and Rs 3,350 on payment and monthly payments of Rs 50 and Rs 100 respectively for three years for the last two options. For the Rs 6,350 payment there is no monthly payment. Club members get a handset worth Rs 10,500 with 3 years insurance, 12 months warranty and colour handsets at an additional charge. Select content of R-World will be available free of cost for the club members till September 30, ‘03. The club members will also get 25% discount on Reliance web world memberships. The Reliance IndiaMobile service is commercially available in around 200 cities presently. It will soon be available in 693 towns and cities across the country. The service is at present supported by over 250 web worlds and retail stores where a customer can walk in and buy a fully provisioned phone over the counter.

This is exactly what the game in telecom is: Depreciation & Interest. Operating costs are quitel low compared to revenues: At 5000 customer care employees, each earning 2 lacs per annum, would be only 100 crore for the whole year !! >>>> Too puny compared to about 5500 crore revenue RIC would earn this year. As for webworlds ... they are the retail face ... and should be self-sufficient in their own right. (Webworlds keep with them good retail commissions, when they sell a mobile phone >> something like, if a private franchisee sells the phone, he keeps the retail margin ... A retail margin on a 5000 rupee phone could be as high as Rs. 1000/- ... quite a loot for retail shops) !!! But to make the point, RIC is not too affected by operating costs (of employees), or webworlds .... it just has to bother about the depreciation & Interest. Telecom is a capital intensive business. MONEY MATTERS

As far as I remember ... Reliance promised free RWorld to DAPO till September 1, 2003. Hope you guys enjoyed it till then.

I am quite satisfied with my LG 5130 ... even though I bought it for 5000 bucks, and now the price has dropped to under 4000 types. I don't use R-connect though.

Looking at cricket scores while travelling to office or even while in office is useful. New headlines / video news (which remains free) is also not just for kids. (I don't, but many people used mobile banking / rail reservations before both got paid ... I don't know, if they would find it useful in paid form). Lots of remaining items ... yup ... are kidstuff, compared to how one could pass the time on internet.

It was only posted on April 05, 2005 by Rediff. The source is the data made available to lenders ... sometime (when / how back !!) A more reliance data (for 9 months - Apr-Dec'04) is the RIL Quarterly reporting to it's investors, where, RIC, which is a subsidiary, also has due disclosures made to the investors. (The report is still available on www.ril.com and clearly mentions 164 cr loss (actuals) for Apr-Dec '04) also ... RIL Annual Report from 2004-05 should be out by 21st April ... so that should give good info on the full year financials of Infocomm

Restrain Reliance Infocomm, Say Cell Companies
SexyGurl replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
I don't think reliance is offering any "subsidy" to make the unlimited STD offers lucrative ! The huge capacity they have built in optic fiber network, is lying all empty ... 700 Rs. is a very good money for them to make, since they do not incur any variable costs on offering that. The optic fiber network is now a sunk cost ... and thus irrelevant to to computing "contribution" (the term used in marketing / finance). In addition, in many cases, the subscriber who busy 700 plan ... may need the counterparty at the other end to buy-in a reliance ... could mean additional revenue of Rs. 200/- p.m. Their problem::: They are probably not finding high enough subscribers to subscribe to their 700 plan too !!!! .... which would enable their optic fiber network to be filled with traffic to higher utilization levels. Many people are fine paying just Rs. 200/- per month ... and fine making just one or two STD calls to their native place at Rs. 1.79 ... making a mockery of an network built at a cost of about Rs. 7-8 thousand crores. Their game still lies in building up subscriber volumes .... those vital cell sites, which take the huge optic fiber capacity to (potential) subscribers in yet uncovered areas. -
I don't know how old this data is ... (source seems to be dated around the time RIC tied up it's $ 750 MM external debt). Apr-Dec '04 the net loss was Rs 164 crores .. with the Oct-Dec'04 quarterly net loss of Rs. 6 crores. (Jan-Mar'05 are expected to generate a net profit of about Rs. 55 crores). So, my expectation is net loss for 2003-04 to be about Rs. 100 crores (not Rs. 233 crores). Their bigger problem is Rs. 15,000 crores of equity which doesn't incur interest costs when calculating net profit >> an economic intereat rate of 5-6% would mean an additional loss of Rs. 750 crores in the last year (over and above the actual net loss reported)

R-world works on on JAVA-enabled handsets. (Many Nokia sets are not java-enabled). I don't know an LG handset which is NOT java-enabled. So, with LG, you are pretty much sure of full R-world. check your Nokia if it is Java-enabled or not. (btw. limited R-world is also available on BREW-enabled handsets also)
-
They deducted Rs. 10/- from my talktime for "buying" the match pass for yesterdays India-Pak cricket ODI. And yes, do deductions of Rs. 25/- membership fees yet. I think, we should have the option of configuring our R-world, so that we don't see the "U" & "E" items in our menus ... the ******s just want to tantalise us .... even though there is pure **** inside those "E" & "U"
-
Yes, they are charging without warning. CAUTION ALL PREPAID USERS: IF U ENTER ANY "M" U'LL BE CHARGED RS. 3/- (DAILY FEE). I got charged Rs. 3/- for today ... and only after realizing called up *333 to convert to monthly membership. It seems that if the PREPAIDS do nothing (i.e. do not get monthly membership) ... the moment they click any "M" they will be charged Rs. 3/- unless they have already been charged such Rs. 3/- in the past 24 hrs. .... So be careful ... there's no warning.
-
Only postpaid subscribers are automatically registered as member (as per R-worldRates) ... I'm a prepaid subscribers. (R-world says, prepaid subscribers need to call *333 to subscribe)
-
I see no damn change since morning today (Apr 1st). I entered a couple of applications marked "M" .... it did not stip me ! I have not called *333 to enrol for the membership, or clicked any button accepting payment of Rs. 25/- .... or even a daily pass of Rs. 3/- !!! What is the funda ... they can't charge me, without my giving an acceptance to the payment ???? And at the same time I have access to "M" apps. (I haven't "dared" to enter any application marked "E" or "U" ... just in case I lose Rs. 2/-, 3/- or whatever)

Restrain Reliance Infocomm, Say Cell Companies
SexyGurl replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Ab fati hai .. itni der se I knew it way back in Dec. when Reliance lauched the 700 scheme, that it would beat the sh*t out of these folks. (Though, there wasn't any ingenuity needed to understand that) >> even TRAI understood it ... hence the damage control exercise of the drastic cut in ADC on national long distance. But, Reliance has a killer advantage with it's 80,000 km optic fiber backbone. BSNL is hopelessly placed to compete on STD becoz that's it bread, butter and oxygen. The only other player airtel is rather weak with only 30,000 kms. of optic fiber cable .... and probably it isn't terabit capable at the one Reliance has. The other thing (i.e. apart from the 80,000 km OFC), Reliance has vast "loot" potential in R-world ... No-one can as yet beat it ... BSNL, Hutch, Airtel etc. ... GSM video capable sets (i.e. Edge sets) just don't exist in bulk in the market .... while Reliance streams videos on 3000 rupee LG 2030 sets !!!! something available with every tom, **** and harry .. .(so, the D***s of airtel, hutch have no chance in high-end data services ) -
Another thing that R-worldRates says is that for Prepaid customers ... they will not be automatically enrolled for Monthly Membership .... they need to call *333 to get themselves enrolled. (While all postpaid customers are automatically enrolled and their Monthly Membership Fee of Rs. 25/- is waived off for April). I called *333 to getting enrolled but they have no procedure right now for giving monthly membership for prepaid. Not sure, but it's possible there would be a flood of calls to *333 on 1st April. (Or am I over-estimating interest in people for the membership )

Has anyone seen "RWorldRates" on R-world .... it says all video news >> Aajtak, CNBC, IndiaTV & NDTV24x7 are FREE (See Free in the RWorldRates) But, I see a "U" mark against all Aajtak etc. What does this mean. Is Aajtak Free or Pay-per-Use !! Another thing, NDTV24X7 is missing altogether from my LG 5130. **** these b*****ds, if they do a pay-per-use on Aajtak etc.
