That was solely, because when you had nothing left to say of TRAI ... you started talking about "Reliance, Tata being against 3G licences", which was not true ... HUH ! So, really it is 250 rupees unlimited internet via PC. That is surely useful. Use it a lot & burn the sh*t out of Airtel. And I'll support you in broadcasting it publicly, left, right and center ....
-
I'm glad you have airtel in your area. Honest and without smiles. Or actually, a sympathetic smile. Probably Rs. 250 per month of GPRS is giving you sufficient value .... like I value the services I get for Rs. 25 per month. I wish your services were also for Rs. 25 per month. (even if only, for WAP). Yahoo messenger is covered for me within my Rs. 25/- per month (using R-surf .... which is part of the membership plan). But, Rs. 250 is surely more decent that EDGY-thing ... too much talk, and empty container.

I whole-heartedly recommend you to use EDGE for internet access. (HUTCH charges 10 paise per kilobyte) = 100 rs. per MB and ONLY Rs. 10,000 for 100 MB download. (Rs. TEN THOUSAND ONLY for 100 MB DOWNLOAD). I am generally not vindictive .... and can't help having a self-satisfied smile ... that people like you, MUST BE TREATED LIKE THIS. YOU DESERVE THIS. (or maybe I should say, you deserve ATLEAST this). I PRAY, THAT EDGE IS LAUNCHED SOON ENOUGH IN YOUR AREA, SO THAT YOU CAN USE IT FOR INTERNET ACCESS.

FYI .. EDGE is not 3G. Your "international" GSM operators are already charging @ 1 rupee per second (i.e. Hutch, I don't know Airtel charges), for providing video services via EDGE. Again FYI .... EDGE services are not at all popular .... given the HUGE prices: 1. EDGE-enabled GSM handset cost ATLEAST Rs. 7000/- (If you don't agree, then please post the name any one of your "entry" level GSM handset and it's price). 2. Hutch charges @ 1 rupee per Second to watch streaming videos. This is over and above Rs. 50/- per month mandatory charge. Services offered on Hutch are same or less than R-world Videos. Hutch TV offers: Aajtak + Clippings of popular TV serials. I have already mentioned Reliance's charges for Videos. NDTV 24X7 english news is ABSOLUTELY FREE. i.e. if you are a reliance subscribers .... you get the service free. Aajtak .. unlimited, no per second charge. For Rs. 25/- per month. (25 per month is the membership charge ... where you get a range of data services, both text & video). -- I use Aajtak, CNBC, NDTV 24X7 .... and a Punjabi religious video (Mukhvak, from Golden Temple) .... EVERYDAY, TWICE (on my way to office & back). Pay just 25 from my talktime. I have owned a color handset, with speaker (LG 5130) ... and have NEVER bought a prepaid voucher more than the Rs. 199 value. (Sometimes 149 voucher also). Using the service for over a year. LG 5130 is available at Rs. 3800/- with free talktime R-2-R of Rs. 1000 (buy someone on this forum bought it for Rs. 3500 too). Black&White video enabled reliance sets are even cheaper than this .... but a watching videos in color with a speaker is a different experience. I can just smile ... if someone suggests EDGE to me. R-world is available all across the network. (works equally well in those villages, where the network is there) -- those 4 lac villages being covered. I honestly advise you to wait SOME MORE TIME, till your "international" operators start EDGE services in your area. And please pray, in the name of COMMON INDIAN, that videos offered over the EDGE are available UNLIMITED and for just Rs. 25 per month. After all your "international" operators do understand that some people just can't afford @ 1 rupee per second. And pray that, once these "international" operators are given 3G licenses for FREE .... they will give you whery-whery-whery cheap service (off course cheap not in quality, but in price). BEST OF LUCK.

>> Even the entry level GSM phones contain following features, 1. EDGE/3G 2. Camera wit Video 3. Bluetooth 4. Expandable Memory and other list of other options. Your market knowledge impresses me. btw ... .assuming you do use a GSM connection ... are you enjoying watching videos on EDGE. (even if, it's an "entry level" set)

ok ... have fun using DSL. I am happy with wireless internet access @home, and broadband at webworld.
-
I thought I was the laziest person in the world .... but you beat me ... I am yet to feel lazy, going over a Reliance webworld. (And it's sure practical to set up webworld type PCOs all across India). -- Infact, reliance is connecting 1 million building in 20 cities, for Broadband using Fiber-to-Building already.

Nobody is buying all the spectrum .. and neither is anyone selling all the spectrum to one party. Tata offered to buy a one-operator's requirement for launching 3G services. Airtel (Singtel + Vodafone + Bharti) want the same thing for free, for which Tata is willing to pay 1500 crores. I see no logic in offering to either. There should be open bidding ... including NEW international players like Cingular, Orange, Nextel, Korea Telecom, Japanese providers .... Deutshche telecom. They have money ... want to launch 3G .... good for both India and Them. If Hutchison Whampoa or Singtel don't have money, then Sorry. Keep providing 2G services only. And by the way, don't be a fool .. that IF we gift the Spectrum for free .. .the prices of 3G will be any cheaper. Price will be, what WE as customers are willing to pay ... not what someone is going to steal from your pocket. Eg. If Nextel or Cingular pays Govt. of India 4 billion dollars .... it woulud like to earn back, fine. But it better keep it's COSTS in check. Provide Indians the services, at what the COMMON INDIAN can buy. Otherwise no one will buy the service & it's Nextel or Cingular's problem to look for getting back it's investment. FIRST RULE OF MARKET: Given sufficient competition, PRICE is WHAT THE CUSTOMER IS WILLING TO PAY. Not equal to: Cost + Profit Margin. That doens't work. Lastly go and get a REAL BROADBAND experience at any Reliance webworld. You'll know the difference, clearing your mindset. As for people "migrating" .. check the latest figures. The PROPORTION of CDMA subscribers to GSM subscribers is rising in India. For all wireless subscriber additions, last month 34% of the additions were by CDMA, 66% by GSM. (Total 3.24 million subscribers were added in October ... 1.1 million by CDMA operators)

Reliance and TATA opposing more spectrum ....no?? Ratan Tata said, he is even willing to BUY it (For around 1500 crores). The "international" players (if you mean the current GSM operators) .. want it FREE. As of Date: GSM operators are holding 25 MHz of spectrum. CDMA (i.e. Reliance + Tata) are given only 5 MHz. Neither by subscriber base, nor by traffic, is GSM 5 times CDMA in India. They want more (and I have hardly any problems with that) .... the Finance Ministry has: Why should a National Asset be given off to non-Indians (nearly 50% of GSM players are owned by "international" players) for FREE?? It's like Taxing poor Indians but giving a National Asset for free to outsiders. I feel, that govt. should REDUCE taxes ... and raise money from SALE of Spectrum. Why shouldn't HUTCHINSON WHAMPOA, SINGTEL or VODAFONE pay from Spectrum? These same players paid HUGE money of the order of BILLIONS of DOLLARS in other countries. Why should we gift all this free. We do want to use that money, to build our ROADS, PORTS, POWER PLANTS. AND EVEN IF DON'T WANT TO BUILD ALL THAT ... WE'LL KEEP THAT MONEY IN SAFE DEPOSIT. WHY THE PHUCK, GIFT THE SPECTRUM FOR FREE ????

Broadband for means ... being able to use Broadband-only apps ... which is (1) video conferencing, (2) high-resolution video games over internet. I am ok, with a dialup type connection at my home, and use PCO-type services for real broadband (for some years). Broadband, EVEN AT 256kbps is NOT HERE ... for the kind of people who started using mobile post-2003. Total wireless connections (Mobile + Fixed wireless) = 72 million. Copper based POTS = 44 million. DSL is not applicable for wireless services. (so 72 million are out). Out of 44 million coppoer-bases POTS lines, a big chunk is out because of Distance from exchange factor. Another Big chunk is out, because the existing wired copper network is not capable of using DSL (.... i don't know the reason, but BSNL chairman said this to TRAI). I am willing to BET, Broadband in India won't be driven by DSL. It's better to drive internet using wireless (like R-connect type services). Ok ... it's not broadband. But what's important right now is connectivity, not Broadband. India has less than 10 million internet users right now. First thing is to push that number up to near 100 million. For Broadband, shared services (primarily thru optic fiber) are going to work.
-
Even I don't oppose it. Just that if someone is having "too high" that things will change drastically because it ... fat chance. In any case, I think the future of Broadband in India, in immediate future, for common man, will thru shared use ---- thru Reliance Webworlds etc. (Like PCOs were used before telephone revolution). Broadband at home, is still some years away. And DSL is no "significant" solution.

HELLLLLL ! I am not even participating in this thread .... just a coincidence that I hopped in. WOW !!! -- see a new KIND OF CR*P here. I am hardly beyond spitting out niciest abuses ... even if the mods choose to edit them out later. REMEMBER -- I DON'T S*CK ... I cHeW. ANYONE WANNA TRY ?

Reliance not "surviving" international competition. !!! It's crushing it ... a bit too hard You saw the unfolding of the Jamnagar refinery .... THE LARGEST SINGLE GRASSROOTS REFINERY -- IN THE WORLD. AND NOW IT'S BEING EXPANDED TO 60 MILLION TONNER (NEARLY DOUBLE). Reliance simply rocks. Even Infocomm.... 80,000 Kms of optic fiber network. Presence in 5000 cities and 4 lac villages (by end of year). You can ask anyone knowledge-able about Indian telecom Industry ... what MONSOON HUNGAMA did to Indian mobile industry. Tata, I agree is just-an-other competitor. No heroics there. But, it along with Reliance, brought the old-GSM operators to their senses. Now, if you're claiming that Airtel, Hutch would have been charging the currently applicable tariffs, if Reliance & Tata & BSNL were not there ... it's easily laughable. In fact, specifically, Hutch is still quite pricier on EDGE-BASED DATA SERVICES ... Read another thread ... It cost's @ 1 Rupee per SECOND .. to watch "HUTCH-TV" on EDGE. (includes Aajtak, and other video-services). (Not to state the mandatory Rs. 50 per month charge). What are Reliance's tariffs: UNLIMITED VIDEOS (AAJTAK, NDTV 24X7, CNBC, ...) just with Rs. 25/- per month. No PER SECOND CHARGE. Actually, NDTVX7 english video news it TOTALLY FREE .. not even Rs. 25 per month. And Bollywood videos: Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi HITS, DHOOM, KAJRA-RE etc. @ Rupees 2 per launch (AGAIN NO PER SECOND CHARGE). The old-GSM has still not behaved as far as data services are concerned. But it's competition: If they don't mend their ways, they will get eliminated completely from the HIGH-END DATA SERVICES MARKET. As for TRAI, maybe here, it could set up an upper band, on this DAYLIGHT-LOOT by old-GSM operators on Video Data Services.

I'm sure Ramchi is enjoying the state of Power Sector in India. Great Electricity Bills ... no corruption there. WOW ! If only Telecom would have followed the things as they are there in the power sector .... Ahhh ! Sh*t ... if we could somehow make our Telecom sector like the power sector .... we would become "eligible" for a decent comparison with Nigeria or Sudan. -- Jokes apart, Ramchi has already forgotten the telecom tariffs, before Reliance entered the sector. Shall we revert to pre-reliance tariffs dear? Atleast Rs. 800/- for low users ... and 4000-5000 per month for high users. Hmmm.... I wonder, who are you being paid by.

Maximus: You forgot to thank me, for my post

True, everything is not perfect ... but compare TRAI to what other regulatory authorities do. IRAI - Insurance Regulatory Authority of India ... Total Cr*p. I fail to see why it exists, if it's that dormant. Power Regulatory authorities - The less said, the better. Atleast, TRAI hasn't chosen to play a DEAD DOG.
-
I also hate it, as much as you do. I'd love to distribute my MMS clips from 6255 ... but can't !!! I'd love to distibute my beautiful pics but can't. If anyone wants to buy my 6255, pm me. Please. There is no alternative.

I managed to read 4 to 5 sentences from the above (each from a different paragraph). In general, it doesn't sound positive ... and I get a feeling that someone's modesty is being outraged. As always, I remain sympathetic towards TRAI ... it's influence has been very positive, thus far.

My company banned chatting on net. (Yahoo, rediff everything)... i just have to do sex-chat After that I found out a java chat site, which luckily was skipping detection. Found this one: amishapatel.50megs.com/amishachat.html (It's actually run using parachat). Not at all stable ... crashes frequently .... but when one is hungry, anything to eat is great. Alas, the bast*rds, cut-off that chat site also. I was forced to find web-forums ... where I could do my sex-xing. But the status is, my company doesn't allow any damn sex-forum either, now. Searching day & night, evening & afternoons .... I couldn't find any sex-forum that was allowed. What did I find: RIMWEB. Google is crazy --- Search for SEX SEX FORUM FORUM, FORUM & SEX, SEX ON FORUM, FORUM FULL OF SEX. ... HUH ... and all u find is: RIMWEB !!! ------------------ luckily rimweb isn't blocked. and the bad parts are: 1) There are not many girls here. 2) The mods won't open an exclusive forum for adult-only chat. (Bloody, they don't realize, some aspects, even about telecom, should be discussed only by adults).

I would have preferred SexyB*tch or wh*re ... it's so much more of a turn-on Alas, those f*kkers would have disallowed. (ok .... to be honest, i don't want the old name to be associated to the cr*p I type in here). You just have too much fancy expectations from DSL ... it has managed to crawl only in the countries which already have a lot of copper already laid out. EVERYBODY is moving towards Fiber-to-building. Anyway, you sure, your house is within the specific distance from the BSNL / MTNL telephone exchange .. so that you are DSL-eligible ? Else even if you have copper coming from the exchange to your house, it'll be useless. Try your cable operator too .... you may get something better over the coaxial cable. And the best thing --> get RICH enough, to buy an Fiber-access internet  (Or for time-being use webworld ... I was dazzled by the speed there) I access the net thru my company ... and on the weekends always get 1 Mbps (to my desktop). On other days, between 256kbps - 512 kbps.

And what about DoT (really Govt. of India -- the NDA govt) being one-sided, when they, wrote-off a massive LICENSE FEE payable by Airtel, Hutch, Idea and other players ... when converting to a revenue-shared model ? These guys bid way-too-high ... and they cried-to-tears their way out of the high bids. In was entirely justified to permit BSNL, Reliance and Tata, when the original mobile operators failed to charge up the market (simply becoz of their Rs. 16 per minute tariffs). And neither meet their contractual obligations regarding committed license fees. In any case, TRAI has only advisory / consultancy capability over policy matters .... DoT already has full power over policies. But once the policy is set, TRAI should be allowed to implement it fairly. As correctly mentioned above, an "arbitrary DoT" riddled by politicians (read Maran), is far to worse than an "arbitrary TRAI" .. becoz is has to defend it's opinion in Black & White Objectively. So, atleast TRAI has been more transparent .. and has always put clear reasons of it's stand (though, all of it's stands are subject to scrutiny by TDSAT and higher courts, if the operators, subscribers are dissatisfied).

Reliance is connecting 1 millions building by optic fiber ... over 20 cities. In any case, India doesn't have sufficient copper laid out by world standards. It's just good that we didn't have to lay copper earlier .... now all over to replace it by fiber. India is among the rare major markets which will go directly to fiber. (Even china has a overhang of about 300 million copper based POTS services). India has just 44 million or so. btw... just in case some one develop fancies .... hardly 10% of the 44 million lie within the specific radius of the telephone exchange, where DSL technology could work. All telephone connections are by default not able to use copper for DSL .... only within 2-3 kms. of the telephone exchange can.
-
I don't know why such a fuss is being made about this. What do you expect the private operators will change ... by this "access". --- The private operator will probably need to buy DSL-compatible equipment (mostly from abroad), and install it in the telephone exchanges of BSNL / MTNL. BSNL / MTNL have already bought the same equipment already and installed it. I don't know what extra-value private operators bring, by buying up the same thing, again. --- Anyway, once they have bought, the private operators will either buy up capatity on optic fiber of BSNL to link the existing telephone exchanges to their own internet backbone. BSNL / MTNL already have their own connectity from exchanges to the optic fiber backbone. Please explain, how value will be added by private operators doing the same thing. --- Private operators will then over BSNL / MTNL's local loop (copper cable) provide DSL internet access. THIS IS JUST WHAT ACCESS IS REALLY MEANING HERE. BSNL / MTNL will continue to provide telephone services over the same copper. They also offer DSL over the same copper ... but now you want private operators to move into BSNL telephone exchanges to try to offer DSL internet over the same cable. What f*kk are they going to do .... anything marvelous there?? --- You'll still have to buy up DSL modems at the other end of the copper cable. --- You expect great prices, once the market is divided up into more number of players .... each of whom will buying up new equipment (for DSL), which is fast becoming a defunct technology ?? Boss, Fiber-to-the-building is the technology over the future. Hardly to fuss about too much about any wonders happening by BSNL letting private operators offer f*kking DSL internet over it's historically-proven to be dicey copper cables !!! In fact, I have hardly heard telecom operators, screaming about BSNL not providing access .... .I don't know why Baijal and DoT is so interesting in forcing the private operators into BSNL exchanges. More of inconvenience and hoop-la than anything concreate. Private operators ahve to go the Reliance way .... laying optic fiber to build a Metropolitan Area networks .... Optic-fiber-to-the-building. Copper is already junk technology. F*kkers are fighting over the skin, while there is hardly any pulp in the fruit.

Oh yeah ... and when Abhay has made his application .. it's very likely that Baijal (of TRAI) will invite him to Delhi .... and award him with the Special Award for "Extraordinary Services to the Telecom Industry". Relax ... it's not worth the 3.97 users who will actually use it, before the application (1) collapses, or (2) becomes outdates. If it's not NECESSARY to do something ... It's NECESSARY that it MUST NOT be done. Though, I could offer you a half-an-hour long date, at a schedule of my conveniece .... if you do succeed in building that App.

Choose Your ILD Operator - Trai to implement Carrier Access Code
SexyGurl replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Yeah.. one way video should work @ 256 kbps. (so smashhits would be ok) A video Conf won't ... because you need to download as well as upload data for videos. In fact 512 kbps is the minimum speed a reasonable (i.e. small TV screen big) VideoConf would work. (Of course, small video chat works even in dial up .... but u know the size of window during yahoo chat !!! ... )
