  1. Reliance and integrity???
  2. R-connect Slow Down My Machine!

BEWARE - It can be a KeyLogger The windows OS program is some sort of memory indexing manager. If it takes an unusually large amount of memory, it could be a keylogger Press the keys "CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + K" (it can be customized to another keyboard shortcut though, and hence may not always work). Check for a new icon in system tray. Also do a search for cisvc.exe and cisvc.txt. - the executable and the file which stores all the keystrokes.
  3. this means the tarrifs would increase in 6 months time because the new tarrifs can never be lower than introductory tarrifs If you read this PIB release on broadband, it seems unlikely they will increase monthly rates. The new broadband policy does have some pretty HUUUGE subscriber targets - impossible in our country if higher rates are imposed. And as with BSNL mobile services, they can maintain this low rates if they do get a huge subscriber service. And since BSNL is providing ADSL service, keep in mind that the number of total subscribers currently connected to the network has no effect on individual connection speeds. So the advertised speeds will be available 80% of the time. You know which provider I am rooting for
  4. It is working now - look at the brighter side: someone at bsnl pulled up the page between a Sat midnight and Sun morning. wow Look at this condition That means unlimited downloads will be allowed till June 30. Now if they are really going to offer the service at 256kbps...
  5. I thought this was a tech forum in English
  6. Here is a new way to recharge the prepaid connection on a Nokia 2280. You have 20 prepaid cards and since one would want to have the maximum validity, we tend to recharge only when are down to the last rupee. Here's a method to store the store the PIN in the phone itself and recharge with minimum fuss: Store PIN in the phone: Goto Menu->Settings->Call Settings->Calling Card You will be prompted for the security code (12345 is the default) Select "Card A" ->Edit->Dialling Sequence Select "Access No+card no +phone no" In the "Access Number" enter *340 ( this is the reliance no to call for recharging) In the "Card Number" enter your recharge PIN Come back to the "Card A" menu and press "Select" When you actually need to recharge: Press # Press AND HOLD the "Call" key until "Card call..." is displayed and then start listening When the young lady at the other end starts her blah blah press (dont hold) the OK key Thats all Since the 2280 supports 4 calling cards, one could store three more PINs (hey..we have 20 of them at calling cards B, C and D. Just remember to change to the correct calling cards when you need it. Since the phone security code is needed, I guess it is pretty safe to store PINs here. In this way, if we keep atleast one PIN in any of these "calling cards", we would never go out of charge on a prepaid! Cheers, Anoop
  7. Nokia 2280 Backlights with Service Area

Yes. It always seem to display the base station (or whatever it is). It comes on whenever it is switched on or when you receive or make a call. While on a call, you can (actually, you need to) press the Exit to move to "in-call" options (like mute). And the lights come on everytime the base station changes. On a recent trip on rail from Trivandrum to Hyderabad, it changed everytime the base station changed and along came the lights. Nothing wrong with that - except that unless you switch off your mobile at night, there won't be any charge left after around 24 hrs. By the way, on rail, if you are at a major station, you can know the station name even if you are on the upper berth sleeper!
  8. Nokia PC Suit and Nokia 2280

I tried many versions of PC Suite, but none seems to work. I am now "suspecting" my cable driver. If anyone has been successful in connection the PC Suite and the phone, could they pls tell me any url which has the cable dirver as well as the s/w version which works?
  9. 10 Gb Email Account !

One more thing. In case of not-so-popular companies, it is better to read their Terms and Conditions (assuming they follow them :-). Not just our mail ids, even those mail ids to which we send and from those we receive may also be used for spam harvesting.
  10. G-mail Account

I read some virus has hit the google servers early this week and some of their services have been knocked out. I did not have any problems with gmail, though.
  11. Recharge your RIM prepaid with 2 key strokes

Exactly. And remember to do it before your balance drops down to below Rs.20....They seem to have some other prompts too when balance goes down below this.
  12. Ignoring Nokia

Nokia is a very good phone. Fewer complaints.
  13. About Rim Prepaid

Same here. Nokia 2280 - no problem. Just remember your SMS and RConnect charges are not reflected immediately on your prepaid balance.
  14. Probably yes. Most people I find tend to think that a number starting with an STD code is a landline number. They dont know or it doesnt come to their mind whether the real number starts with a 2 or 3. And if the STD code ends with a 2 or 3 and one doesnt know the STD code, even those who know may be confused. Like, you are given a no 04823235423 - how do you know whether it the number 235423(landline) on STD 04823 or is it 3235423(rel. mobile) on STD 0482??? And if they are going to call this from a landline, they would be paying too much money without even knowing they are actually calling a mobile. I am all for standards!
  15. Nokia 2280 Ringtones

No. The PC Sync software is not supported by reliance nokia phones. We get a "Enhancement not supported" error
  16. Nokia PC Suit and Nokia 2280

You are right. I got the 2280 specific s/w from the nokia site. It still shows the Enhancements not supported message
  17. Effective R-Connect Speeds

It is the case of the b which matters Bps is bytes per sec bps is bits per sec K shud actually be caps though small is acceptable since it has been like that for long. One more stuff - even though 1 byte = 8 bit, in network parlance, 1KBps may not be 8Kbps since network protocols usually have an error correction/parity/stop bit added. (You might see these in modem settings) Here in trivandrum, I get speeds from 9kbps to 38 kbps ( as per pcpitstop.com). I attain nirvana by looking at the network icon in the taskbar tray which announces I am conncted at 230.4 kbps.
  18. Nokia PC Suit and Nokia 2280

Did you find the 2280 in the compatible phones list.? I didnt and so I guess we might have to wait a little more for 2280 supported suite.
  19. New Members Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi, I am Anoop. - 26/M/Trivandrum. Currently working as s/w engr in a pvt company. Hobbies = reading and "some" programming. Used to do cycling and volleyball - but that was in my youth Now, life consists mainly of staring at a 17-inch diagonal emitting all sorts of electromagnetic waves at me. I had ben using Escotel prepaid for 4 years - I quit when they raised their pulse to 60 secs from 30(reminds you of leaders joining one specific party these days - under most absurd reasons? ). Still doesnt regret that decision. (Shhh...actualyy I got a RIM prepaid since I read somewhere they were crossubsidising the Nokia handsets which cost a few dollars under $100 elsewhere. I did so with the evil intention of switching over to BSNL if they did anything spooky after 6 months) Saw none of you had put their "real" avatars in here. So thot of putting my real face in here (shades of a politician again ) Congrats to all those guys who run this forum Cheers, Anoop
  20. RIM Directory - How does it work?

Also I cannot get my name in "RIM Dir". Does it mean that we prepaids(hey we are the really nice ppl who pay reliance even b4 we use their service ) are still not registered as RIM subscribers? Mite this have something to do with our "no voicemail on not available"? I am going to call *369 who in all probability is going to say "forwarding to concerned dept" and the concerned dept is again going to wake me up from my sleep
  21. Effective R-Connect Speeds

One of the best ways to detect the actual speed of internet connection wud be thru the zdnet site. For better results, close all other browser and download windows before you click this link
