  1. Suggestions for CDMA handset with keypad

You will get it from Hong Kong market in Secunderabad. That is may be the only place where you can find it,
  2. Suggestions for CDMA handset with keypad

For OP, I have bought Samsung SCH-B339 handset for 1400/- here in Hyderabad. It is fat handset but very light. Call quality is very good. You get basic MTS handset (unlocked) too for around 850/- . I think if you look enough then you will easily get a nice basic CDMA handset. @mcwintek Even my the dealer from whom I do recharges every month was saying same about dying customer base of CDMA. It seems like in next 10 years CDMA will almost be gone. Still, In Hyderabad, TATA DOCOMO CDMA is best coverage you can get. Thank you so much for 1x information. I was wondering why my internet does not work half of the time. Like you, I tried to switch to TATA DOCOMO GSM but its coverage is pathetic in Hyderabad.
  3. Suggestions for CDMA handset with keypad

Actually I am in same position as you. I have bought MTS Mtag 352, Android CDMA but somehow I did not like these too many features. I felt as if my life got complicated because of this phone, not to mention it is always plugged to charger. Hence I put it on in Buy/Cell forum and starteted searching for basic bar shaped CDMA handset for calling/texting purpose. It is so sad there are hardly any CDMA manufacturers left. I looked arund offline in market recently here in Hyderabad and there are only few handsets I was able to find: Samsung Mpower TV S239 (OMH) Samsung Mpower Muzik F219 (OMH) - this handest slows down after some usage. Everything runs slow after say 7-10 months of use Samsung SCH-B229 (unlocked) Samsung Digirap (brilliant audio clarity and high volume in calls and price is only 1500/-). Bit heavy and fat Online, I see MTS Striker ZTE C121 available from from ebay for around 1K. Make sure you tell us whatever you buy as it helps us too.
  4. I plan to use my TATA DOCOMO CDMA number on an unlocked CDMA handset, one of these two actually: http://tinyurl.com/bjas2ps http://tinyurl.com/aqy68nh I want to use the phone primarily for calling and messaging only. No internet usage or apps playing. I just want to use a good touchscreen phone at around price 6-7K. I want to know what problems one faces when he uses unmatched/incompatible CDMA operator and unlocked handsets.
  5. Unlocked CDMA Handset suggestion

I see it is 2.8 inches touchscreen. Is this size enough for typing SMSs ? I type somewhere around 20-30 SMSs a day,, will I be comfortable doinh that on this small screen. Everything else seems fine to me for purchasing this phone. As fo March 10, I am using MTS Mtag 352. It is Android CDMA. Screen size is no problem because I have installed MessagEase keyboard app. I came to know somehow I am not a fan of phones with shiny-god-like-features
  6. I am using TATA Indicomm (now TATA DOCOMO CDMA) from last 3 years and absolutely no problem in Hyderabad. Excellent coverage as long as Hyderabad is considered as I have never been outside of the city. TATA DOCOMO GSM, well, ver very weak signal strength no matter what handset you use. Idea is much better regarding coverage in this city but their CC (Customer Care Service) is pathetic. TATA CDMA has coverage in areas all around city where Idea and TATA GSM both fail. If OP wants call quality, then he can go for CDMA. If he wants mobiles with features and flexibility at lesser price then I think he must use GSM. 2nd, Qualcomm has stopped all development of UMB (Ultra Mobile Band a.k.a 4G/CDMA) and has favored 4G/LTE which is based on GSM/UMTS network. Hence most probably future will be GSM based
  7. Unlocked CDMA Handset suggestion

@rajanmehtaThanks Rajan but I wanted a Bar touchscreen only. No sliders or flip-open phones.
  8. Wow .. this time I am thanking TRAI for thinking of customer.
  9. Unlocked CDMA Handset suggestion

Okay guys, I take your suggestion and put 351 out of selection. I do not need front cam as I am not gonna use internet/apps. So I am left with 352 and 3.1 . Aalok di you mean this by 3.1: http://tinyurl.com/b4hn6m8 That one seems good for me except that it has 2.8 inch screen, I found it very difficult to type an SMS even on Galaxy Y 3 inch screen. Hence I was looking for 3.5 or 4 inch screen. Any suggestions ? I see Pantech Breakout: http://tinyurl.com/adtc36z
  10. If I buy an Android phone is it possible to not let its apss access internet ? Does android always accesses internet even with default apps ? I am not an app lover but I want to use an android phone and I do not do anything related to internet. BTW, I wanted to buy XOLO A500
  11. I want to buy a new handset with these features: Budget 6.5K Good Call quality (as I talk a lot) Call Recording Candy Bar (qwerty or touch) GPRS/EDGE Bluetooth Twitter (I post tweets using mabile) SD card slot (Hot Swappable) Camera (2MP minimum)
  12. What about BlackBerry 8830 World Edition ? Has anyone used it. How is its battery backup, soun quality, keypad performance for heavey texters ? Is it good enouh for daily use. I was surprised that its available at only 3400/- at eBay
  13. You don't have much options in CDMA. Samsung Mpower Muzik F219 mentioned by Venkatagiri is a great phone. I am personally using it and gifted one to my father and one to brother: Pros: Crystal clear sound battery backup is good comfortable keypad mp3 player very fast response Cons: VGA camera (no phone shoould have VGA camera these days) mp3 player can't run in bakcground Bluetooth is very slow in transfering files But what you expect at 2800/- ?
  14. Hi guys, I sold my NOKIA X2-01 and want to try my hands on another handset. I need 2 handsets, QWERTY for me and Bar for my brother (must be single SIM as none of us likes to keep on punching keys for Inbox1 and Inbox2 ). For me Full QWERTY keypad as I type lots of SMSs (no touchscreens, sliders) Budget 4-5K GPRS/EDGE Bluetooth Good quality sound expandable memory SD card slot (2 GB is enough) Camera/3G/smartphones/frills not needed For My Brother Normay Bar shape handset Budgste 4-5k GPRS/EDGE Bluetooth Good quality sound Good battery backup Music Player 3.5 mm jack is a must expandable memory SD card slot No camera/frlls/3G etc. monochrome/color does not matter Must have good internal memory (e.g. equal to or more than X2-01) In bar style I thought of buying NOKIA 100 but then I see it has same old voice leakage problem as 1280, hence I dropped the idea. for QWERTY I don't any other option except NOKIA X2-01
  15. Poor Earpiece Volume on my Nokia C3 Handset

So your handset got repaired fine with local mobileshop ?
  16. I don't know whats your deal with display size. I suggest: MOTHER --> Samsung Hero (forgot the model number but priced around 1350 or 1450) FATHER --> Samsung Mpower Muzik F219 (excellent phone, have used myself and gifted two handsets to my father and brother. crystal clear sound, no signal breakage, good battery backup) ony downside is bluetooth is quite slow.
  17. Nokia X2-01 Review

Hi guys, I have used NOKIA X2-01 for 3 months (or 5 months ? I don't remember). Here is what I have observed. Its no-frills phone, boasts no 3G, no MP cameras but a basic phone priced at 3550/- when I bought it: Pros: Excellent keypad: not comparable with E5 of course but at this price very good keypad. Texters will love it. Interface: S40 interface is quite good. I liked it everytime I saw or used it. In fact, I will say one of the best. Size: Size of phone is quite good in hands. Neither small as BB, nor bigger to be uncomfortable. Its base is little bit thicker than usual and shape is contoured a bit which may look strange at first but that special-shape makes it easier to hold it and form a stronger grip when you are taking it out of your pocket. Sound Quality: Sound quality in call is very good, voice is pretty clear whenever you talk/listen on both sides, not even a single time it will be of lower quality. Volume of ringing is average/medium. Just less than those songs played on indo-chinese crap with irritating-high volume. Cons: Speed: Phone is slow, whenever you open Inbox and it has lots of SMSs then it pops up with a messahe written "Opening Messages" and while closing another pop saying "Closing Messages". When you connect/disconnect the calls there is always 1-2 seconds lag in response. Battery: Does not last longer, have to charge it everyday if you talk for 2 hours everyday. VGA Camera: It has VGA camera, so camera lovers just forget this phone. You know how useless VGA is. Call Drops: I have checked different reviews on internet. Searched hundreds of gooles pages but no one seems to have call drops issue with this phone though I faced lots sometimes. Don't know whether location of my rented house is like that. Loudspeaker: Don't ever turn on the loudspeaker. I think at 3550/- its the best QWERTY phone you can get. I don't usually buy NOKIA but this was one of the best phones I ever had.
  18. My friend owns NOKIA E72. Now he wants to buy a new phone and asked me if Android can beat Symbian in terms of technical facilities. I said Of Course it does . So here are his requirements: Budget 11K Capacitive touchscreen with slider QWERTY. Bluetoth, Wi-Fi. Nice music and video player Good sound qaulity Very good battery life Android 2.3 or greater (I heard icecream-sandwich is going to be out soon) large internal memory (greater than E72) 32GB or more expandable memory
  19. Qwerty vs Touch

I have a NOKIA 1280 and I type lots of small SMSs (200-300 characters long). Few days back I typed 600-800 character SMSs and my hand ached like anything. It pained whole that day. I was thinking of buying NOKIA C5 but now because of hand pain I thought a QWERTY phone will better (Motorola Charm ?) but my friend advised me to go for capacitive Touchscreen instead. I hate touchscreen phones, especially when Android eats the battery like women eat gol-gappas. I just want a simple GSM phone with these features: Lightweight (100 gm is fine) Bluetooth (for transferring files) good audio quality with 3.5mm jack and of course, comfortable enough to type lots of SMSs. Whats you advice ?
  20. Qwerty vs Touch

If you say so then Android with SWYPE will be my next move
  21. Qwerty vs Touch

Well, I got clearer about my priorities and requirements over time: Basic phone with nice User Interface. No Wi-Fi, 3G and other hi-fi stuff. I never even used GPRS in my phone till date. No need to worry about phone camera. Will buy a digital camera of 5K, so that I can print photos too. checked out Android phones, and noticed they use too much of apps. The screen is full of useless stuff (for me). I just need interface with messages, call log, contacts, settings, bluetooth and calculator, mp3/ogg ringtones and thats it. So I had a list of handsets like Samsung Ch@t 3222, LG GW300, LG C310, Samsung corby TEXT etc and I bought NOKIA X2-01 in the end for 3050/- from HotSpot mobiles in Secunderabad (Hyderabad). I still like my old NOKIA 1280, except that fact that I hate it sooooo much for its speaker is at the back. NOTE: NOKIA X2-01's first impression is: QWERTY keypad is good and upper buttons to make/accept calls and center select button, all feel quite hard but what else you expect at such a price. Quite large screen size it has.
  22. New Launch: LG 6160 OMH

Thanks Kesav for the info. I 2nd the motion by accepting only category-4 handsets. I think Samsung Mpower Muzik F219 is in this category too. These boxes that carry OMH Diamond Logo are category-4 ?
  23. Samsung Guru 559

What about the keypad ? is it soft or hard or just average ? Mpower Muzik F219 (at 2800/-) has soft keypad with good sound clarity. I thought I should get B559 if it has same.
  24. I want to buy mobile (whether CDMA or GSM) with these features (budget 7K at maximum): 1. 2/3.2 MP camera (must be very good in quality) 2. Bluetooth 3. Good battery backup 4. software/hardware must not have any bugs. 5. Bar type (no flaps/sliders) 6. single SIM
  25. Sorry, its 2.8K with bill of course. Still I prefer Mpower Muzik SCH-S379.
