  12. Review: No Nap.. Rs 350 Device Can Save Your Life From A Tragic Accident When You Dose Off.. Source Road accidents kill 13 lakh people every year, while Indians make up two lakh of these fatalities. To put this into perspective, India houses less than 1% of automobiles worldwide, but still accounts for a staggering 15% of total road traffic deaths. A vast majority of these casualties are attributed to driver errors, some of which are caused by fatigued motorists dozing off at the wheel. Fortunately, Chinese ingenuity has spawned a cheap and inexpensive solution dubbed No Nap, which promises to prevent drivers from nodding off. How It Works No Nap is a nifty anti-snooze alarm that sounds an audible tone when the driver falls asleep at the wheel. This potentially lifesaving device clips onto your ear and stays put as long as your head is upright. As soon as you tilt your head forwards, say when nodding off to sleep, a stell ball shifts position and shorts the circuit connected to the inbuilt speaker. This activates an alarm that blasts an effective 100 dB beep, jolting the driver into consciousness. Powered by three button cells, the mechanism is simple yet effective. A cheaper, but considerably more uncomfortable, all-plastic alternative can be purchased from DealExtreme.com for $1.7 (Rs 75 approx), shipping included. However, that will take well over a month to reach your doorstep. Unlike the previous all-plastic version, No Nap's revised design is relatively more ergonomic and secure, thanks to a soft rubber clip that hooks onto your ear. Moreover, the updated version is slim enough to be used in conjunction with spectacles. This cannot be said of the original. Its light weight ensures that wearing one isn't much of an annoyance. Bikers can use this device too, provided the helmet isn't too tight. A simple yet effective design. On The Road The No Nap sounds perfect in theory, but how does it measure up in the real world? I drove around wearing the device to check if it really works. The short answer is: yes, it does work as advertised. When worn correctly, the alarm would go off whenever my head tilted forward around 20 degrees from the normal position. It screamed into my ear during every single one of my simulated naps. While I found that the device can be triggered even if you peer down into the glove compartment, this isn't an issue due to an easily accessible push-button switch that disables the alarm at will. Since its steel ball triggered mechanism is susceptible to gravity and inertia, I expected false alarms due to braking and uneven surfaces. However, this isn't a problem because real world tests revealed that only the negative acceleration brought upon by severe braking may set off the alarm. Even then, it's only momentary. Neither speed breakers nor uneven roads managed to cause the No Nap to register a false alarm. Ditto for hard cornering. Only the largest potholes, when driven rashly into, will evoke a sharp squeak from the device. However, that's hardly an annoyance. Ideally, I should have deprived myself of sleep before evaluating the device. Unfortunately, TechTree employees don't get dental insurance. Conclusion At Rs 350 a pop, what we have here is a cheap solution to a very serious problem. More importantly, one that actually works, much unlike the usual Chinese duds. Most tourist and transport vehicles are driven by overworked, fatigued, and hence dangerously sleepy drivers. In such cases, the No Nap anti-snooze alarm proves indispensible to ensure the security of life and limb. If you regularly travel interstate, drive at late hours, or otherwise indulge in long drives, there is no reason why you shouldn't get one. Forget road safety, the Editor has ordered this for all employees to enforce "No Napping". If the alarm does go off while driving, please take it as a sign to pull over and drink some coffee. Better yet, listen to your body and take a nap before you move on. Like they say: better safe than sorry. Performance: 4/5 Design & Build Quality: 3.5/5 Features: 3.5/5 Value: 4.5/5 Mojo: 4/5
  13. Apple iPad 2

Reliance Communications Gears Up To Offer Dedicated 3G Data Plans For The iPad 2 Source In an endeavor to offer exclusive, fastest and dedicated 3G Mobile Broadband Services over high end devices like Apple iPad 3G and iPhone 4, Apple along with Reliance Communications is readying dedicated 3G data plans for the iPad 2. With just the state-owned BSNL offering dedicated Apple iPad 3G data plans, tablet PC users claim it has hampered the adoption. BSNL offers 3G data plans for Rs 99 for a day (unlimited data download) and a monthly plan for Rs 599 that offers up to 6GB of data for free. While Rcom's specially tailored tariff for the 3G Data access on Apple iPad 2 starts from Rs. 203 to Rs. 1100 and offers 1 GB to 10 GB 3G data usage respectively. The free data usage benefits will be applicable Home and Roam network usage anywhere in India with minimum 3G Data speed up to 7.2 Mbps for 3G circles and GPRS/EDGE speed for non 3G circles across India. The key feature of this tie-up will be that the plans may not be bound by a contract for activation or cancellation at any point of time. "The customer will have to procure the iPad from the market, while the Reliance 3G iPad plans will be activated from Reliance World outlets reportedly. Post-free data usage in all plans will be charged for Rs. 1 per MB. If we compare the Reliance 3G Data Plans with other private 3G operators than Rcom's 3G pricing strategy is better terms of data usage and post-free usage charges. However still state-run BSNL and MTNL offers cheapest 3G data plans for their normal 3G subscribers as well as iPad customers across India.
  14. New Online Reservation Website For Indian Railways

E-Ticket racket: IRCTC Cracks Whip On Agents Source NEW DELHI: It's the great Indian Railways e-ticketing ripoff. An illegal network of agents who not only plough in profits to the tune of lakhs by conning passengers to cough up five times the e-ticketing fee, but also hacking into the IRCTC website to corner tatkal tickets in bulk. So, if you wondered why a confirmed tatkal ticket is so difficult to get, you have got your answer. Also, when you are being charged Rs 100 by a travel agent for a confirmed ticket, you are being duped. The actual fee is Rs 20. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the principal agency for ticketing, has recently stumbled upon this scam. Sources said sub-agents have developed a software package through which they hack into the IRCTC website during the opening hours of 8am to 9am and book tatkal tickets . These shocking revelations have prompted IRCTC to set up an anti-fraud squad at the internet ticketing centre. In the past three months, the vigilance department has launched surprise raids on about 150 sub-agents. Now, it has fixed the rules for booking e-tickets. First, only a single user can register on one email ID to book tickets. And agents will not be permitted to book tatkal or normal tickets between 8am to 9am when the IRCTC website opens. Second, registration of all new principal and sub-agents has been stopped. The department has also found that travel agents have created several IDs to apply for e-tickets, which were later de-activated. In June alone, the department deactivated around 2,831 multiple user IDs used to issue e-tickets. An IRCTC official said, "It has been found that passengers are charged somewhere between Rs 100 and 200 for every e-ticket, but no acknowledgement slip or receipt is given. Instead passengers are told these charges are included in the price of the fare. Also, agents are supposed to charge a fee for every PNR number, but they charge for every passenger on a particular ticket. Agents also don't ask passengers to fill up requisition forms before issuing tickets nor do they display ticket charges anywhere in their offices. This is in gross violation of rules."

  16. @raccoon Had a Singer Food Processor which did a flawless duty for 12+ years of heavy use without any major problem. Now it's given to a relative since 3 years and working fine. Only a motor belt was replaced once. The model was exactly similar to this one > http://www.singerind...Home.aspx?id=17 Now on Maharaja Food Processor since 3 years. Gifted a Maharaja to a relative 9 years back which also is going good. People also have good things to say about Jaipan and bad experience with Bajaj. And for this type of items, you may get a better price with home appliances shops in your city than Online Deals. Similar to Lohar Chawl in Mumbai which is the area to buy such stuff at better prices.
  17. A nicely configured HTPC can do everything any Media Player can do and probably at a lesser cost All in One Solution.. Why go for Media Players.. There is no config involved.. Installing Software/Codecs etc.. Ready Solution.. Just works out of the box.. It's Smaller/Sleeker.. Adds to your Cool Quotient lying in a Corner.. Some Media Players have dedicated powerful hardware decoders/upscalers which may do a better job compared to low cost built in graphics of most PC's Lower power consumption.. Couch potatoes need a REMOTE to control everything.. Why use an HTPC instead of Media Player.. You have the entire config option in your hand.. Do it your way.. What you want..No need to rely on Media Player manufacturer for updates.. There are solutions to play anything/everything.. Will have all the features/functions of a Media Player + More Economical/upgradable all in one device.. (Compared to having separate Media Player in addition to a PC..) There are ways to take care of the REMOTE thing.. If you're not using a small HTPC Cabinet.. Storage Increase is easier.. Can add as many as 6 Hard Drives internally.. As and when you need it..Without additional external storage taking up space on your table.. Media Players with attached Blue Ray Drives are Costly.. + Most of the Standalone Blue Ray Players still are difficult to get rid of Region Locking for blue ray discs.. There are ways but you will suddenly find that you don't like the player on which it is possible for other reasons/features/cost.. Installing a Blue Ray Optical Drive on a PC and taking care of Blue Ray Disc Region Unlock through software is easier in comparison.. + You can have Blue Ray Writer.. 50 Gigs of storage in Single Disk.. Some clarification may enable members to give productive suggestions.. Is there a budget in mind for Home Theater? It can start from few thousand and can go to infinity.. Is there an existing PC intended as a part of the Config OR looking for a New PC? Again Budget?

Thanks.. Suppose if i take care of 1 & 3 and install Verizon Official OTA, Will it mess up with any of the configured Reliance EVDO/PRL/Other settings? If yes, What's the best/painless way/method of taking complete backup of all those settings in one shot & re-installing later after the update?
  20. @FEVIN-RAJ 3G should work in GSM in India on that as GSM arena shows 3G network for Fathom as HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100.. http://www.gsmarena....fathom-3356.php Still KSHAH is using fathom.. Can answer definitve.. @loypalm Dollar has not fluctuated by 10% today.. Which is approx price increase they made..
  21. Verizon Samsung Fascinate - Beauty With The Brains

My Fascinate does not show/install official OTA updates released by Verizon.. What is the most probable reason? -Phone is rooted.. -Phone is working on other than Verizon Network.. i.e.. Reliance.. -Phone is not on Stock Official ROM but on a leaked Android 2.2 DL30 & Radio DL09.. What's the solution to get the OTA updates for us in above scenario? Mainly interested in the latest radios but weary of installing/messing up manually..
