Please suggest Android handset under Rs.10,000
rajanmehta replied to imshyam's topic in Handset Suggestions
Amit, those Motorola phones are on Android 2.1 and Motorola has confirmed they will remain on it.. No further updates.. https://supportforum...oftwareupgrades And Samsung Galaxy Fit has lower specs than all 3, Galaxy Pro B7510, Dell XCD 35 & LG Optimus One! Is there some underlying logic/rational in choosing it above any of this 3? -

Huawei Glory Coming To Cricket Wireless, Brings 1.4GHz And Gingerbread For Under $300 Source Normally, when we think about prepaid carriers, one thought comes to mind: low-end devices. Most manufacturers reserve their higher-end handsets for the Big Four, so those who don't want to empty their wallet each month on a wireless plan end up with very little to choose from when it comes to decent phones. However, that is all about to change with Huawei's upcoming Glory phone, which is set to land on Cricket Wireless this November. The Glory packs a pretty hard punch, especially compared to its prepaid competitors: a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8655T processor, 4-inch 480×854 TFT display, 8MP camera, and Android 2.3 – all for under $300. To add to the allure of this phone, Huawei has only tweaked the stock Android UI a bit – adding custom animations, some custom widgets, and a slightly customizable app drawer. The goodness doesn't stop there, however, as Huawei also made it a point to note that the Glory will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012, though we'll have to wait and see if that actually happens. -

Updated: Apple Sues Samsung - Apple Wins Patent Case
rajanmehta replied to sgiitk's topic in The Lounge
Apple Emerges Victorious; Samsung Denied 'Peeking' Right Source A few days ago, we reported about Samsung demanding that Apple come transparent with the designs of its future products. In retaliation, the iPad manufacturer approached the District Court of California, and filed a motion against Samsung. Apple also requested the District Court of California to deny Samsung's requests. Now, it so seems that the Court saw more merit in Apple's claims, and steered the judgment in their favor. According to the judgment, Samsung has been denied the permission to peek into Apple's stash of prototypes to gain confirmation. The judgment further added that Samsung's open ways of proceeding with product releases, didn't quite fit its claims of product secrecy. This in contrast with Apple's well guarded trade secrets gave Samsung the final setback. -

NPCI Opens Floodgates for Mobile Payments in India
rajanmehta replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Eko: The mobile bank for low income customers Source Customers just have to approach local retail stores that are sub-agents of Eko with their identity proof, a photograph, and a personal mobile phone number. Not directly related to NCPI but relevant to finacial inclusion initiative through mobile.. So posting here.. Eko is a low cost mobile banking solution for people in the low income groups. It is just the right service for India, where the workforce is 540 million-strong. Only about six per cent of these workers are employed in the organized sectors. The low cost mobile banking company Eko aims to serve the unorganized segments of our economy. Eko was founded in 2009 with the aim to reduce the cost of financial transactions. The reason? The bigger banks used to target only higher income group customers due to more earnings from them. Eko decided to reach out to low income group customers through mobile phones to deliver banking services to them. Almost at the same time a regulation was made by the Reserve Bank of India, which said non-profit companies could only become business correspondents for regular banks, and that retail outlets such as grocery stores and petrol pumps could work as sub-agents of these business correspondents (BCs). These regulations allow SBI and Eko to work together to allow customers to open zero-balance accounts. Customers can save money in these zero-balance bank accounts and earn an interest rate of 2 to 3 per cent per annum on their savings.— all the banking activities such as deposit, withdrawals, remittance and checking balance can be done through SMS. Low income group customers just have to approach local retail stores that are sub-agents of Eko with their identity proof, a photograph and of course, a personal mobile phone. Eko has managed to reach its target audience easily by collaborating with local retail stores, which are in direct touch with the customers. Mugdha Bhargava, vice president of communication, Eko, said, "We plan to cover Bihar, Jharkhand and Delhi for the next six months and then move to other parts like UP and Maharashtra." She said there was no referral system in place right now and that the company targeted the customers through various activities like nukkad natak, promoter-led and van activities, financial literacy comics etc. The company had plans to associate with banks other than SBI and ICICI Bank, but details were not given. According to another official from the company, Eko is currently present in Delhi NCR region and Bihar-Jharkhand region, which are full of migrant workers. Eko currently engages about 1,300 CSPs (customer service points) or retail outlets to serve customers. These retail outlets are chosen on the basis of certain risk parameters like criminal record, identity proof, shop address proof, and business details like footfall, cash management capabilities, goodwill in the market etc. These retail stores work like mini bankers for low income group customers who otherwise have no access to banking services. The transactions are kept secure with the help of unique and secret PIN numbers. Eko has also entered into a partnership with VeriSign to make sure that transactions are kept secure. The details of the transactions conducted are also sent to the customer in the form of an SMS. -

Sony Ericsson announces Xperia Ray, Xperia Active Source First in line was the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, which previously had leaked under various monikers, like ST18i, Urushi and Azusa. This one has a whiff of the Xperia arc, since it is pretty thin, at 0.37" (9.4mm), and very light at 3.53oz (100g), and also sports the same 8MP Exmor R camera sensor and LED flash with a 1GHz Qualcomm chipset. The Xperia ray brings the screen down to 3.3", though, with the pretty good for this size 480x854 pixels of resolution and Mobile Bravia Engine shenanigans. The phone is running the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be available in select locations in Q3 of this year in black, gold, white and pink. Good thing is that it also sports a front-facing camera, unlike the arc, and it comes with a 4GB microSD card in the box. The second smartphone piqued our interest, though - it is called the Sony Ericsson Xperia active, and, as the name suggests, is targeting the outdoorsman in you. It's a 3-incher, with 320x480 pixels of resolution and scratch-resistant display (aren't they all) that is allegedly able to accurately track your fingers even when wet. This hints at the biggest added value of the Xperia active - it is waterproof up to three feet (1m) for up to 30 minutes. To complement the water- and dustproof sealing, the company throws in a couple of extra sensors like compass and barometer, as well as apps like iMapMyFitness, Personal Trainer, Pulse Watch and Pedometer plus "torch functionality". The cool thing is that а 5MP camera capable of HD video with LED light found its way in the waterproof housing as well, so the Xperia active will capture those 720p videos under water you've always missed on the Motorola DEFY. This one also comes with Gingerbread and will be outed in Q3, with white or orange band, and black battery cover. There is a replacement soft-touch white battery cover in the box, 2GB microSD card, and it also comes with a wristband and arm case for all the joggers out there. -

@Rajanji any suggestions on my query pls.. Is there any other better offers available on mp3 or mp4 players?? You have been relentless in chasing your unclear/confusing query... 3 Posts here + a pm to me... No offence but not the right way to seek info/assistance.. You mentioned, "Can u anybody having experience on this.." No i don't.. Otherwise i would have posted as i do for many others.. "Please suggest me on this.." What to suggest? I am not a mind reader.. Anyway... 1. Run this link to see choices for MP4 Players.. http://electronics.s...d=p3286.c0.m282 2. According to me, it's useless to have tiny chinese MP4 players having 2" screens to enjoy video in any meaningful manner. Either buy a bigger, better quality of restrict yourself to MP3 player only. 3. If you want to restrict to MP3 player only, instead of a player, consider buying Nokia X1-01 for Rs 1,555 here http://www.rimweb.in...post__p__233889 For only Rs 1,555, it gives you a dual sim, dual standby phone with loudest sound speaker (106 phone) + 3.5mm audio jack + expandable memory upto 16 GB + 36 Hours of Continuous music playback. Much better to use it as even music player than those chinese ones..- 6,376 replies

Can the following info be incorporated in bold letters/prominently in the First Post to avoid imported handset users make a bee-line here for EVDO? Thanks.. That is outside the scope of this initiative. You may contact your handset seller for necessary assistance." -

Fallacy to think that Market Economy will stop giant corporations from being "Monopolistic".. America is a shining example. Being a Capitalistic, market driven economy did not stop "Intel" to indulge for years in "Intel Inside" campaign where it was paying subsidies to all major PC/Laptop manufacturers to use Intel Processors. Only condition was that if they availed the subsidy, they can't use "AMD" Processors. They killed effective competition from AMD by this method for many years. Even though a consumer would have liked to go for an AMD system, the choices were not available only from major PC makers. AMD filled a case under European, American Anti Competitive legislation. Went on for a few years. Finally Intel settled the case by paying a few Billion dollars to AMD. So now you are seeing AMD systems from all major PC manufacturers. Microsoft too was sued when Internet Explorer was bundled together with Windows OS. Competition Commission of India is a revamped version of earlier Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practises Act. Now it has powers for mergers/acquisitions also where a monopoly could be created. Still it's not as tough/effective as European legislation. -

Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
rajanmehta replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
RIL may need more spectrum to offer high-speed Net service Source Infotel Broadband, the telecom unit of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), may have to acquire additional spectrum for its soon-to-be launched wireless broadband services, according to a brokerage. The firm plans to roll out TD-LTE (time division-long term evolution) standard-based, high-speed Internet services by the end of this year. "RIL will have to acquire additional spectrum in the lower spectrum bands or acquire an existing wireless operator with CDMA EV-DO (code division multiple access, evolution-data optimized) or 3G (third-generation) GSM spectrum to provide uninterrupted wireless data services as LTE-TD is not suited for coverage outside dense urban markets," Sameer Naringrekar, an analyst with BNP Paribas Securities (Asia), said in a 14 June note to clients. The acquisition will also enable it to provide better voice services, the report said. CDMA EV-DO and GSM are wireless technology standards. RIL did not respond to an emailed questionnaire seeking comment. In June 2010, RIL bought 95% of Infotel Broadband for Rs.4,800 crore. The acquired firm was the only one to win 20MHz of broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum across the country in the broadband airwaves auction for Rs.12,847 crore. "RIL may also benefit by leveraging the tower and national fibre network of an existing telecom operator to shorten the time-to-market for its BWA services. The biggest challenge faced by RIL will be to develop the ecosystem of LTE end-user devices to ensure that prices are affordable to drive widespread adoption. RIL has experience in developing ecosystems of affordable end devices as witnessed during the launch of Reliance Communication (formerly Reliance Infocomm), which was incubated by RIL," the report said, referring to the period prior to the split between the Ambani siblings, Anil and Mukesh. A number of analysts have confirmed that RIL is looking at entering the market with low-cost pad-like devices that will be able to offer a number of mobile services including streaming of media and entertainment content and commercial transactions. One Mumbai-based analyst, who declined to be named, said RIL could even offer eight-inch touchscreen tablet devices connected to their BWA network. "They are in talks with some 13 or 14 manufacturers based out of Taiwan. The tablets are expected to cost between Rs.8,000 and Rs.10,000," he said. "The data plans would also be cheap, I assume, maybe around Rs.1,000 per month." The TD-LTE technology used by Infotel is expected to provide upto 100Mbps download speeds and 50Mbps upload over the airwaves. -
