Huawei MediaPad Revealed: World's first 7-inch Android 3.2 tablet, Dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm CPU Source Jun 20th 2011 5:30AM It's here folks -- the planet's first Android 3.2 tablet. Huawei just introduced a downright luscious new slate over in Singapore, with CommunicAsia being the launchpad for the 7-inch MediaPad. It's the first high-profile 7-inch tablet we've seen in quite some time, and somehow or another, it's managed to leapfrog most of the currently shipping Honeycomb tablets with a build of Android we've only ever joked about. Huawei tells us that Honeycomb 3.2 is essentially the same as 3.1, but specifically tailored to 7-inch tablets as opposed to 10-inch. Packed within the MediaPad's 10.5mm shell, there's a 217 pixels-per-inch IPS capacitive touchpanel, GPS, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 802.11n WiFi, a battery good for around six hours of life and a bona fide racehorse as a processor: a dual-core 1.2GHz chip from Qualcomm. If all goes well, it'll ship in the United States in Q3 2011. It's a fair bit chunkier than the newfangled Galaxy Tab 10.1 (8.6mm), but still slimmer than the original Tab, which clocked in at 11.98mm. It weighs in at 390g (0.86 pounds), supports full 1080p playback, includes HSPA+ (14.4Mbps) 3G support, offers 8GB of internal storage (as well as a microSD slot) and comes pre-loaded with Facebook, Twitter, Let's Golf and Documents To Go. There's also a Bluetooth module, an HDMI output for catching those high-def flicks on the go, and the Flash 10.3 player ensures that those websites won't be a problem. Unfortunately, the company's left a great deal to the imagination -- like pricing, which is being "sorted with retail partners and providers" -- and all we've got for system RAM is a promise that it's "working with partners on specifics." Oddly enough, the company has "no current plans" to produce a WiFi-only model, which definitely puts a damper on those who aren't interested in ponying for carrier data. You can bet we'll be digging for more, but even with the surrounding mystery, calling us "excited" would be a severe understatement.

Android OS & Apps - Security Threats & Vulnerability
rajanmehta replied to rajanmehta's topic in Android
Rooted Android Devices Facing Security Threats Source Malware jSMSHider could infiltrate your device without your knowledge. The best part about Android is its open sourced nature, allowing users to customize the device to the very core, and change it according to their liking. For that to happen, developers or hackers have to go through sleepless nights to cook up a working Android custom ROM. It wouldn't be wrong to say that Android is the safe haven for hackers and devs. This is the main reason why most brands do not encourage hacking and are striving to make it harder for the devs as the days pass by. However, some companies are actually encouraging the development of custom ROMs. Samsung provided a bunch of Galaxy S II handsets to the developer team of CyanogenMod. Now, a firm named Lookout Mobile Security has spotted a new malware which can compromise the content on your Android device. This particular malware known as the jSMSHider, will make its way through rooted Android devices with custom ROMs and gather your data. The worst part is that most custom ROMs out there aren't safe from its attack. However, the Android device is immune from the malware's attack as long as the user does not download apps from third party sources. Luckily enough, this particular malware has so far not been found to be hooked with the apps found in the Android Market. The jSMSHider malware has not been spotted in any Android device yet, but that doesn't mean that users should disregard its existence or the consequences of its infiltration. When jSMSHider makes its way to your Android device, it will instantly have full access to your text messages, and will have the ability to contact other servers. This essentially means that the data on your device could instantly land on some other device and this malware is also capable of downloading applications remotely without you even knowing about it. Exercising a little caution while downloading content from third party locations is therefore advised, because you never know what you might be getting yourself into. -

Updated: Apple Sues Samsung - Apple Wins Patent Case
rajanmehta replied to sgiitk's topic in The Lounge
Apple Modifies Patent Complaint Against Samsung Adding More Products and IP Rights SourceJun 17th 2011 The legal battle between Apple and Samsung is escalating. Apple has been granted access to Samsung devices that it alleges violate patents held by Apple and in defeat Samsung decided to try the same tactic. Samsung asked the courts for samples of the iPad 3 and iPhone 5, despite the fact that the devices haven't been announced. Apple has now gone back and amended its patent complaint. Apple has asserted that Samsung is violating more of its patents and expanded the complaint against Samsung. The key new things in the document include a more strongly phrased complaint and more detailed copycat accusation. Apple lists more examples of how and when Samsung copied its products. Apple cites the Samsung F700 as the first act of copying designs by Samsung. Apple expanded the list of Samsung products that it feels copy its own offerings. The original list of products Apple accused of copycat included the Samsung Captivate, Continuum, Vibrant, Galaxy S 4G, Epic 4G, Indulge, Mesmerize, Showcase, Fascinate, Nexus S, Gem, Transform, Intercept, and Acclaim smartphones along with the Galaxy Tab tablet. The new amended complaint adds to that list the Droid Charge, Exhibit 4G, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S (i9000), Gravity, Infuse 4G, Nexus S 4G, Replenish, Sidekick, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Galaxy S II. The complaint also lists the Showcase i500 and Showcase Galaxy S. -

Workers Behind iPad 2 Leak Sentenced To Prison Source In a recent case at a Shenzhen court, Xiao Chengsong, General Manager of Shenzhen MacTop Electronics Co, was found guilty of offering 20,000 Yuan (Rs 1,35,000 approx) to a Hon Hai (Foxconn) employee named Hou Pengna for information about the iPad 2. Ms Hou in turn paid Lin Kecheng, a Foxconn employee working in R&D, to take photographs of the device's back cover, a full six months before the iPad 2 was announced. Apparently, MacTop wanted the device's dimensions so that it could start working on the case manufacturing process. The trio will now undergo up to 18 months of imprisonment and additional fines up to 150,000 Yuan (Rs 10,35,000 approx). Looking at the nature of the punishment, taking such a risk for 20,000 Yuan might sound like a terrible decision. However, according to a report, thousands of Foxconn workers live and work in the same compound and get a salary of around $290 (Rs 15,000 approx) per month. Considering their 80-hour work week , it is easy to understand the temptation of easy money. One cannot justify the wrongdoing of the Foxconn employees, but such strict action seems harsh. Previously, Foxconn was in the spotlight when a 25 year old worker committed suicide after being interrogated for leaking the iPhone. At that time, an Apple spokeswoman had made the following statement: "We require that our suppliers treat all workers with dignity and respect". Apple is known for strictly guarding its product development secrets, and expects the same from its suppliers. The fear of losing a multi-million dollar deal drives companies such as Foxconn and the Chinese government to take strict measures. Apple's innovations and designs are worth millions, and totally deserve their secrecy. However, is it more valuable than the dignity of human life?

Vodafone Drops Defamation Case Against Man Who Talks Too Much

We may be missing the REAL point behind LOW response to "Appeal To Reliance For Data Plans" What Do Many may Think As The "Cause" ? RIMweb has 48,890 Members. Still we have only 449 Signatures till today in that petition.. A Noble Cause which if succeeds benefits everybody but most members have ignored it.. Leechers.. No willingness to even devote 2 minutes.. averse to legal sounding word "petition".. No responsibility to the community.. Here is the Alternate Reality.. Out of the total 48,890 RIMweb Members, only 1560 members visited RIMweb even once after 15th April 2011 (The Day When The Petition Was Posted)... We tend to over estimate our reach.. Out of that 1560 members (who should be aware of this petition) 449 signed.. Around 28%. Still that leaves nearly 72% out.. What about them? Well, most of them may not be even on R-CDMA, Must have left long back disappointed with many issues and only two re-deeming features, i.e "Tariff" & "Network Coverage"... Both this features are no longer the monopoly of R-Comm.. Other CDMA/GSM networks have come close to matching it in recent times.. Other reason is that most people may abhor "Petitioning" for something which should have been done by Reliance long back in the first place with competitive scenario & many such past appeals.. Nothing has changed RComm's "We care two hoots about you" behaviour over such a long period of time and people may be skeptical whether this "Petition" will? It simply does not want to listen to it's Customers.. Or for that matter to anything remotely sounding "Intelligent", "Business Like" & "Practical".. Head burried deep in the sand, Heart pumping barely enough to survive & Mind highjacked by "AirHell" ghosts roaming around.. Though i have signed it, drafted a separate long comprehensive petition for forwarding to "Reliance" and sent to HP, i wonder how long one can really expect people to keep on "Begging" Reliance for removing absurd network usage charges, outrageous data plans, confusion between Phone/Netconnect/Rworld/Win Mobile Data Plans, EVDO off for even OMH sim/phones.. That's the "Real" story unfortunately!!! And i still believe that We should have sent an email to each RIMweb member about this petition notwithstanding the stated policy of sending only one email every year.. There is a need to Re-Connect all RIMweb members again with not only ONE but many more emails during the year with this and many other events and increase the response/our impact.. Otherwise we will be in the same "Decline" in future as RComm is "Today". -
As Net Debt Piles Up To $7 Billion, Reliance Communication Faces Key Test
rajanmehta replied to KumaarShah's topic in Reliance Communications
Reliance Communications and R-Infra Out of The Elite Mumbai Stock Exchange Sensex Source Jun 18, 2011, 05.37am IST MUMBAI: The BSE has decided to take two Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group stocks-Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Communications (RCOM)-out of the elite sensex index, which analysts say could lead to a selling pressure on the two stocks. In a late evening development on Friday, the BSE's index maintenance committee simultaneously replaced these two ADAG group scrips on the sensex with Coal India and Sun Pharma. While Coal India is the most valued PSU and the second most valued company in India with a market capitalization of Rs 2.5 lakh crore, Sun Pharma, with a market cap of nearly Rs 50,000 crore is the most valued pharma company now. The changes are effective August 8, a BSE release said. The exclusion of R-Infra and RCOM is sure to add pressure on these stocks, since fund managers who have benchmarked their funds, including passive sensex-based exchange traded funds, will now be forced to sell these stocks and buy the two scrips which have now been included in the index. Lately the RCOM stock has been under tremendous selling pressure as it failed to meet the growing challenges in the telecom space with its peers competing fiercely on tariffs, customer service and also acquisition of new clients. The company in particular and the ADA group in general faced another setback when the government agencies investigating the 2G telecom spectrum scam arrested three of its top executives and grilled the group's chairman Anil Ambani. Over the last one year, while RCOM has lost nearly 50% of its value to Rs 95 on the BSE now, R-Infra too lost over 50% to its current level of Rs 580. RCOM was included in the BSE sensex in June 2006, within months of it being listed on the BSE after the company was demerged from Reliance Industries. It had then replaced Tata Power. Data on the BSE website does not show when R-Infra was included in the elite 30 stocks. The inclusion of Coal India was expected since its blockbuster IPO last November. However, BSE's rules for inclusion in the sensex, among others, required a continuous trading history of six months. For Sun Pharma, this is the second entry into the sensex, but on both the occasions the same has been dramatic. The stock was first included in the index in January 2009 when it replaced Satyam Computer, soon after the accounting fraud in the software major was revealed. And this time, it is replacing RCOM, which was one of the most talked about stocks on Dalal Street just a few years ago. -

That's the standard response of CC, to de-activate Mobile TV from the handset. But unfortunately, the option to de-activate did not exist when i wanted to do it some months back. You can read the horror story here http://www.rimweb.in...nts-resolution/ I hope you don't have to go through that route. Don't know whether they have enabled the option now. Meanwhile try the following. 1. Ask CC under which Menu in RWorld in your handset you can De-Activate. Try fiddling yourself also under various menu options in RWorld. 2. I could find some instruction on Reliance website for De-Activation of News Value Pack. Don't know whether it will work.. Try.. Dial 51234 863 (Toll free) for unscubscription.. OR SMS UNEWS to 51234 for unsubscription 3. If nothing works, walk into a Webworld with your handset and ask the bafoons there to show you where the De-Activation option is there. If they don't find it, Tell them to De-Activate themselves. 4. If everything fails, last resort is here http://www.rimweb.in...nts-resolution/ and it may take a month or so but most probably will work.

GooApple Phone Revealed - Without A Keynote Own an Android smartphone, but secretly admire beauty of iPhones..Here is Something.. If Apple Wants to Sue Someone For Being Copycats, They Should Contact the Guys Behind the GooApple 3G Source Source GOOAPPLE Official Website http://gooapple.com/ Tired of Apple vs Android flamewars? Do you own an Android smartphone, but secretly admire the beauty of iPhones, or you are an iPhone user who lusts after the Android OS? Worry not, the GooApple phone has come to your rescue. Could it be something bigger than the Microsoft/Nokia deal? More importantly, who announced the device - Sergey Brin, Larry Page, or Steve Jobs? Well, no. Actually, hell no. The device has come from our "lovely" neighbour. This could be confusing as we have two lovely neighbours, but since Pakistan has no interest in mobiles (as they are fond of cars - car-bombs, to be precise) the credit for the GooApple phone has to go to China. Cheap iPhone clones are not new, but what makes this one is the attention paid to the minutest details. The GooApple phone is not just a clone, but a perfect replica of the iPhone 4. The build is so close to the original handset that it can use all the cases and screen protectors made for Apple's product. The onboard Android 2.2 is also so deeply customized to look like iOS 4 that you won't be able to tell the difference at first glance. This is the finest iPhone 4 copycat we've seen so far. But the software is what has us intrigued. It's Android at the core, but is so far from it that I couldn't even tell at first. The OS has been customized to look exactly like iOS in most areas, from the homescreen to the SMS app. We're not sure what the specs on this thing are, but performance looked quite decent. If you want the best of both worlds, then the Gooapple 3G may be worth looking at.

Sakshat Tablet To Launch This Month Indian tablet to cost Rs 2,200; subsidised at Rs 1,100 for students. Source India's answer to the OLPC (the Sakshat tablet) seems to be on track for a release as early as this month. The Indian Government has announced that the much touted $35 tablet will be supplied to IIT Rajasthan by the end of June. This will be followed by 90,000 more Sakshats being churned off the assembly line over a span of the next four months. The govt has put a price tag of Rs 2,200 on the low-cost device. If this price wasn't unbelievable enough, students can purchase the tablet at a mere Rs 1,100, which is even lower than the projected $35 mark. That's good value for money, considering the relatively ample storage space on offer and its ability to handle multimedia content with aplomb, as seen in the video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7Jbjmcv_so Here are some of its features that have been revealed at this juncture: 7" touchscreen 2 GB RAM 32GB HD 2 USB ports Open source OS Video-conferencing facility Multimedia capability Wi-Fi connectivity
