  2. LED backlighting in TVs has been a real boon for end users, while manufactures have been able to create stunningly slim televisions. It also keeps the environmentalists happy since there is no mercury used in LED backlit TVs there by giving you a greener product. We tested quite a few LED based LCD TVs in the past and the difference in power consumption is certainly visible while still maintaining a good brightness level. The problem with the term "LED backlit LCD" is that it's a bit too long, which does not look good in advertisements and posters. Manufacturers have conveniently eliminated LCD and simply highlight "LED", duping customers into thinking they are LED TVs, which they clearly aren't. Today we'll have a look at the different types of LED LCD TVs currently available that offer improved picture quality over the other or even traditional LCD TVs. All LED Backlit TVs are not created equal The first thing that you should know is that not all LED LCD TVs are created equal. Just because the TV may have a sticker that says "LED" on it does not mean you'll get the same performance as the flagship model. Stop and think for a moment, if companies used the same technologies in their high-end and low-end products, no one would look at the higher end models, right? There are predominantly two types of LED backlighting technologies; Edge-lit LEDs and Full array LEDs. The first batch of LED TVs that came out in 2009 were based on this technology and was first showcased by Samsung. Today you'll find everyone using this technology in their "cheaper" LED LCD TVs. Edge-lit typically means the LEDs are placed around the edge, which allow companies to make slimmer TVs. There are no major advantages in this type of LED LCD over conventional LCDs when it comes to picture quality. In fact there are many uniformity issues with edge-lit LEDs, like certain areas of the TV tend to be brighter than others, which we noticed when we reviewed the Sony ZX1. This is cheaper to produce than Full array LED LCDs, since they use a fewer number of LEDs. The other technology that can be found on most of high-end TVs of today is Full array LEDs. As the name suggests, there is a full array of LEDs (see pic) sitting behind the LCD panel. This obviously gives you a more even backlighting with little or no uniformity issues. Mid-range to high end models typically have this sort of backlighting, like the Samsung UNC6500 series. In terms of picture quality, there is no real perceptible difference when compared to an LCD. The only advantage here is lower power consumption and again a slimmer profile. The latest crop of LED LCD TVs feature Local Dimming LED technology, which changes the game altogether. What is Local Dimming LEDs? LG was the first to push out this technology in India and today almost all major brands have Local Dimming (LD) in their flagship models. LD on Full array LED TVs give you the better picture quality compared to the LD on Edge-lit TVs, which was introduced this year in the Samsung UNC8000 series and LG LE5500 series. The LEDs used here are similar to the Full array models except that the array is broken into different zones and the LEDs in each zone can be dimmed or brightened depending on the scene at hand. This gives you very good black levels that rival plasmas, since the LEDs in the dark areas can be completely turned off. There is a little catch here though. The side effect of this is a slight blooming effect noticed up close when a brighter image appears suddenly over a dark background. This happens because when displaying a dark background, the LEDs in that area are mostly off and when a bright object suddenly comes into that area, the LED's light up to full brightness and then dim down to the current selected picture mode. This happens very quickly and isn't very noticeable when watching a movie, but if you connect a PC to it with a static background, it's visible. Despite this, these TV's are capable of delivering the best picture quality among LCD TVs. Commercial true LED TVs don't exist yet How would one define a LED TV? It's when a single LED is responsible for illuminating a single pixel on the screen, which is when you could do away with the LCD panel altogether. Today's high-end LED LCD TVs pack in around 1500 LEDs and a typical full HD panel will have around 2 million pixels. So in order for a TV to be classified as a true LED TV, we would have to have 2 million LEDs powering individual pixels, which is simply not possible today, and probably won't be commercially viable for some time. So you see, no matter how companies try to spin and twist words and create fancy slogans, if a TV uses an LCD panel, it's still an LCD TV and not a LED TV. Sony and LG clearly mention this on their site as LED LCD TV, but Samsung seem to have conveniently dropped the "LCD" from all of their LED TVs, which would easily fool the misinformed. Aren't LED backlit TV's supposed to be cheap? Technically LEDs should be cheaper to produce compared to CCFL based LCDs, but our guess is that manufacturers seem to be cashing in on the hype and buzz generated by none other than them. Everybody wants a slimmer TV for easier installation, more bragging rights, etc. and we seemed to have conditioned ourselves into thinking the extra price is justified. Another reason for LED LCDs being expensive could very well be the manufacturing process not being that mature as yet compared to LCDs. It's probably cheaper to manufacture an LCD, since this technology has been around for a while now and manufacturing units are more wide spread as compared to LED LCDs, which just started hitting selves a year back. What the Future holds In the next three to five years we should be able to see a considerable drop in prices as we adopt newer technology for cheaper and better LED LCD TVs. QD Vision is a company that claims to have developed a breakthrough technology called Quantum dots based on nano technology that is capable of delivering up to 40% more power efficiency and a color gamut over 100% of the NTSC spectrum. This is achievable due to the use of nano sized semiconductor crystals capable of emitting pure red, green and blue light. You should see this technology hitting LED LCD models of 2011, which isn't far away. If you were on the fence on getting an LED LCD TV then we'd say get the one with Local Dimming LEDs if you can afford it, or else simply stick with a cheaper LCD TV, as the color reproduction will be better than the "cheaper" Edge-lit models. Better still, if you have a well functioning CRT at home, stick with that and take the plunge maybe next year when prices go down south. SOURCE: Techtree

Samsung to launch Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9 next month in India for INR 35K, 28K Source Read Original Article Here Samsung Mobile India Head Ranjit Yadav today confirmed the launch plans for new Galaxy Tabs in India. According to him, Samsung will release Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9 in the market next month and these tablets will be sold for around INR 35,000 and INR 28,000 respectively. The pricing seems to be pretty decent, but it is still unclear that this pricing is for 3G version or WiFi only versions. I think, it is for the WiFi only versions, as the 3G version of original Galaxy Tab was priced at INR 38,000 at the time of launch last year. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9, which were announced at a Samsung event in March sport a slim form factor and come with Honeycomb and dual core processors inside.
  15. 2G scam: MM Joshi reappointed PAC chairperson DNA Veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi was today reappointed as chairperson of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC), notwithstanding the controversy surrounding him with regard to the draft report on the second generation mobile telephony spectrum scam. Joshi was nominated by his party following which Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar reappointed him as the chairman of PAC which is responsible for conducting the financial audit of various departments and ministries. The term of the previous committee ended yesterday. Joshi's reappointment will be effected from today and he will be the chairperson for one year. The 77-year-old leader has been recently at the centre of major controversy after he circulated the draft report of PAC on the scam. He was attacked by the PAC members belonging to UPA who alleged that the report was prepared with "malafide intention" to defame and destabilise the government. The UPA members created pandemonium at the last meeting of the previous committee of the PAC on April 28 which had resulted in a chaos. Rejecting the charges of being malafide, Joshi yesterday sent the report to Lok Sabha Speaker and wanted her to table it in Parliament. Addressing media, he also termed as "unconstitutional" the claim that 11 MPs of the 21-member committee had "rejected" the report, saying said such a possibility does not exist till the report is "read" by members and "discussed" para by para. Replying to a question, Joshi said he would wait for a decision from the Lok Sabha Speaker on whether the report had been "adopted".
  16. MNP Regulations does not have a specific clause regarding Premium Numbers. It is covered under this general clause through which a port out request can be rejected by your existing operator, Check your CAF Form/Any other agreement you signed & accepted while taking those premium postpaid numbers. If it prescribes any minimum period like 6-12 months or payment of charges in lieu of minimum period, you need to comply with that otherwise idea can reject the port out request even if 90 days are complete from the date of activation. Though there is a difference of opinion among some that Mobile Numbers are property of Deptt. Of Telecommunications and a Telco cannot charge any premium for a specific number, in REAL LIFE, all operators are charging for the same, even officially and have rejected port out requests of premium number customers who have not stayed for the minimum period prescribed under the agreement with operator.

  18. @GENIUS Thanks Buddy... Yes. Sure. That's the purpose of the post.. more people to be aware & take benefit if they can... Just ask not to use it verbatim & copy-paste... I don't want a vindictive Airtel to let loose on me... Lolz... Undoubtedly. That's my experience too. Airtel has the best reliability & service for ADSL broadband. MTNL is offering the same 2mbps Unlimited Plan for Rs 4,999 in Mumbai. MTNL has this weird differential pricing policy since a long time where all good broadband plans are introduced in Delhi first & not introduced at all/very late in Mumbai. Let's hope so It's not part of official plan for Meerut (Checked Airtel Site)... So you will have to through the threat route. Call CC... Request for Dis-Connection... May ask for reason... FUP... Will Take Request... Wait For Retention Deptt Call within 2-3 days... Ask For The Plan... Agree... But Airtel is known for it's unpredictable behaviour lately. Sometime dis-connects without retention calling. So have an alternative ready if this is your primary connection. But IMHO, worth a fight...

  25. 2G Scam Probe.. The 'Rejected' PAC Report Source: http://www.outlookin...cle.aspx?271603 Full Text of the PAC Report http://www.scribd.co...REPORT-20110428 What happened today had been foretold yesterday. There already had been reports of a "deal" that the Congress had cut with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)'s to help it scuttle the report on 2G scam that indicted former Telecom Minister A. Raja — and made critical comments on the Prime Minister's "indirect green signal" and the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram and the PMO. And that is precisely what happened today. More importantly, the report, dictated by the PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi, had recommended that all 2G licences issued by Mr Raja be scrapped and a heavy penalty be imposed on the existing licensees, who benefited illegally by his decisions. The 270-page (with annexures) draft of the PAC report was leaked within hours of the PAC's 21 members receiving it yesterday (April 27) for a final meeting to adopt it today (April 28). In addition to the BJP chairman Mr Murli Manohar Joshi, the PAC comprised of seven representatives from the Congress, four from BJP, two each from AIADMK and DMK, and one each from Shiv Sena, BJD, JD(U), SP, BSP and CPI(M). In unprecedented scenes at a stormy meeting of the committee, the ruling coalition MPs (7 Congress, 2 DMK) — aided, as earlier foretold, by one each from SP and BSP— "elected" Congress member Saifuddin Soz as chairman who put the resolution for rejection of the report to vote. In the end, the 11 MPs —including one each from SP and BSP —claimed to have "democratically rejected" the PAC's draft report. It was reminiscent of how the trust vote on the Nuke deal with the USA had been "managed". The 'election' took place once Mr Murali Manohar Joshi had left the meeting after Soz moved a resolution seeking a vote on the adoption of the draft report. In the "vote" that took place after the nine members belonging to opposition parties (BJP, JD(U), BJD and AIDMK) had left, 11 members rejected the report, Soz claimed. Mr Soz later went to Mr Joshi's office and handed over the "resolution" rejecting the report to his staff. He said he would apprise the Speaker of the developments in the meeting. Mr Joshi himself told reporters that he had adjourned the meeting because of the din created by the ruling side members who claimed that the draft report was "outsourced". "I wanted to say something but they did not allow me. So I adjourned the meeting," he said. Mr Joshi wanted the report to be adopted before April 30 as that is when the PAC's term was to end and constitution of the next PAC would have meant, as he explained in his cover note, examining the issues de novo. Mr Joshi also cited Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar's ruling that the role of PAC cannot be diluted even though the JPC inquiry into the same issue is on. Congress members in the PAC claimed that Joshi was not prepared to listen to them and "ran away". Another opposition MP said the Congress MPs demanded that Joshi resign and did not allow him to conduct the meeting. Mr Soz' resolution, which was moved the moment the post-lunch session started, read, "I move that the draft report on recent developments in the allocation of 2G and 3G Spectrum circulated by chairman be rejected." In case of lack of consensus in Committee meetings, rules of procedure and conduct of business in Lok Sabha provide that all questions at any sittings of the Committee shall be determined by a majority of votes of the members present and voting. Sources said though there were major differences between members the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Joshi reportedly gave each member the opportunity to express his views. Rules state that in case of all financial reports if the majority in the committee decides against presentation of the report to the Speaker, the Chairperson has to go by this decision. The Congress and DMK had yesterday attacked Joshi over the report and demanded his resignation, alleging that he was trying to destabilise the government. The following is the controversial draft of the on 2G spectrum scammet dictated by its Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi. The DMK's Tiruchi Siva and Congress members KSS Rao, Saifuddin Soz, Naveen Jindal and K Sudhakaran have slammed this report as being Mr Joshi's and not of the PAC. They have asked for Joshi's resignation, arguing that the PAC has still not examined all aspects of the 2G scam and as such the probe cannot be wound up with the findings so far. They argue that the probe could be carried onto the next PAC. Mr Joshi, however, is keen on pushing the report before the term of the current PAC ends on April 30, arguing that the PAC's work cannot be extended beyond its term. But the ruling coalition members are expected to stall the report by seeking further discussion and calling more witnesses, including former Telecom Minister A Raja in a bid to prolong the process. If it comes to voting and the dissent notes are found to be in a majority, the dissenting view would be taken as the final, which is why the April 28 meeting assumes significance. Mr Joshi also cited Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar's ruling that the role of PAC cannot be diluted even though a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the same issue has been constituted. Some of the highlights: PM & PMO The Committee's examination reveals a " strange sequence of events" relating to the exchange of letters between Mr A. Raja, the PM, the note from the then external affairs minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee and the processing of the same in the PMO: "The file was sent back to the Telecom Ministry with a note from private secretary to the PM that 'the PM wants this informally shared with the Department and does not want a formal communication and wants PMO to be at an arm's length.' The PM's desire to keep the PMO at an arm's length indirectly helped the Communications Minister to go ahead and execute his unfair, arbitrary and dubious designs. "On January 3, 2008, by just acknowledging the Communications Minister's letter, the PM seemed to have given his indirect green signal to go ahead with his plans and decisions. What concerns the Committee is the fact that when the Communications Minister was in such a hurry to implement his decisions, there was no plausible reason to submit the file to the PM after 12 days." ... "...The Prime Minister's statement that revenue generation has never been a primary consideration is self-contradictory in view of his own statement in India Telecom-2007 to the effect that the revenue potential to the government must not be lost sight of as government across the globe have harnessed substantial revenue while allocating spectrum." A. Raja "The Prime Minister was, in fact, misled when he was informed by the minister [A. Raja] that the issue of auction of spectrum was considered but not recommended by the Telecom Commission and also not recommended by TRAI. The minister was saying half truth, concealing the other half concealing his ulterior design." "...the former Communications Minister deliberately misled the Prime Minister in order to fulfill his nefarious design, leading to staggering loss of revenue which also tarnished the image of the country. On the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram "The Committee are shocked and dismayed to note that the FM (P Chidambaram) in his note dated February 15, 2008, acknowledged that spectrum is a scarce resource and the price of spectrum should be based on its scarcity value and efficiency of usage, but made unique and condescending suggestion that the matter be treated as closed. "The Committee view it most unfortunate since the FM, the guardian of the public exchequer and entrusted with the principal task of mobilisation of resources for public welfare, instead of initiating stringent and swift action against all those responsible for the whopping losses to the exchequer, pleaded with the PM to treat the matter as closed. The Committee cannot rest till the matter is probed in its entirety and the reasons for such an unusual act by the FM are explained to the nation." On Mr Ratan Tata "The Committee are surprised that a person of Tata's stature sent a personal letter to DMK patriarch when the letter had nothing to do with the framing and implementation of policies at the central level." On Radia Tapes "The Radia tapes reveal the tip of the iceberg and provide glimpses of the often unreported backroom deals, shady trade-offs, role of middlemen, quid pro quos between lobbyists and certain journalists, insatiable greed for wealth, etc."
