Does the iPad 2 Live Up to our Expectations? Read on to find out the improvements Apple brought with the iPad 2 and how it could have been better iPad 2-Hits and Misses Apple, like any other corporate entity, is known to remain tight-lipped about any new product before it is officially launched. It is a necessary thing to do as any information leaked can be used to deliver a game-changer rival product by its competitors. There were very high expectations about the specifications of the iPad 2, months before its launch on March 2. So have those expectations been fulfilled, or have they left us high and dry? It's time to take a closer look. 1. Size: Thinner = Improvement The first generation iPad measured 246 x 190 x 13 mm. The iPad 2 has dimensions of 241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8 mm, which means that it is actually a lot slimmer (it seems almost flat, as against the bulge at the back of the original iPad) than its predecessor. We consider it an improvement. 2. Weight: A little lower = No improvement The iPad 2 weighs 601 grams, which is less than the original iPad weighing 680 grams, but it is still quite a bit to hold for too long. So this cannot be held really as much of an improvement. 3. Looks and style: Same as before = No improvement Barring some minor changes due to additional hardware such as cameras, the iPad 2 looks just like the original iPad. Apple could have done better here. It still features the old brushed aluminum and glass finish, so the carbon fiber body rumor was proven to be false. To clear our point here, take the example of the iPhone 4 - it looks dramatically different and dashing when compared to the iPhone 3GS. So there is no improvement in here. 4. Display: Same as before = No improvement It had been speculated months ago that the new iPad will sport a Retina Display, but that was not to happen. Both the iPads have the same 9.7-inch LED-backlit oleophobic IPS display, with a resolution of 1024x768, which means a ppi (pixels per inch) of 132. Obviously, there is no improvement in visibility in sunlight, as had been speculated. The aspect ratio is 4:3 and as before, you will see thick black borders at the top and bottom of the screen while watching widescreen videos. Incidentally, since the display remains the same, this also means that all the apps developed for the original iPad will run on the iPad 2 without any modification. 5. Performance: Faster = Improvement The iPad 2 can boast of better performance because it is powered by Apple's new 1GHz A5 dual-core processor as against the single core A4 processor used in the iPad. Although it is safe to assume that the performance will not double, there will be major performance gains for applications which can take advantage of the extra core (and we assure you that such applications will quickly start coming up in the App Store). Interestingly, the battery life has been maintained at 10 hours (probably due to optimized components and due to the lower power consumption of the A5 processor) as was the case before, so no change in there. Yet another reason for better performance is the 512MB RAM as against 256MB from the original iPad, which will be helpful while running multiple applications at the same time. 6. Graphics: Faster = Improvement While Apple has claimed that the iPad 2 has up to nine times the graphics performance as the original iPad, this may not be farther than the truth. The reason is that the iPad 2's graphics are powered by the Imagination's PowerVR SGX543MP, which is a multi-core powerful chip. 7. Topmost model storage capacity: Still stuck at 64GB = No improvement The highest flash memory storage capacity available in the iPad is still 64GB. This could definitely have been better because the cost of flash memory has dipped to less than half of what it was at the time of the launch of the original iPad. It would have been easily possible to bring out a 128GB model, facilitating storage of more apps, videos, music and other data, but was sadly ignored by Apple. And no, there is still no option to expand memory by a memory slot. And it also does not have any USB port to access external storage either. But that was expected, because Apple expects you to transfer data using only their iTunes application. Thunderbolt cannot be implemented in the iPad 2 because one of the basic requirements for Thunderbolt is PCI Express, which is absent in the iPad 2. 8. Dual cameras: Each for a different purpose = Improvement One of the most visible physical additions in the iPad 2 is the inclusion of two cameras - one at the front and the other at the rear. The front camera is a VGA resolution camera, meant to be used for FaceTime video calling applications. The camera on the rear is similar to that of the iPhone 4, with a 5x digital zoom, and capable of recording video at 720p HD resolution at 30fps. The still image megapixel specifications of this camera are not officially mentioned, but it has been found to be not more than 1 megapixel (similar to the rear camera on the iPod touch). This rear camera is just a bonus feature as we don't see you actually using the bulky iPad 2 to shoot videos or photos. 9. Support for GSM and CDMA: In a way, by means of two different iPad 2 versions = Improvement Weeks before its launch, it was rumored that the iPad 2 will be able to communicate with CDMA as well as GSM networks. So while this is indeed true, the iPad 2 has been introduced in two versions - CDMA and GSM, separately. This means that you cannot switch from GSM to CDMA or vice versa using the same iPad 2. 10. Price: Same as original iPad = Meets expectation When the iPad 2 was launched, Apple immediately set its price at the same level as the original iPad and reduced the price of the original iPad by $100. This means that you get better hardware at the same price point and if you are short on cash, you can always get the original iPad, which is still a good tablet. 11. Louder audio: Possibly = Possibly an improvement The iPad does not have loud speakers. Even listening to a podcast in a comparatively silent room from a few feet can be a frustrating experience. The iPad 2, on the other hand, features speaker grills, which look larger than the three tiny holes on the original iPad, giving rise to speculations that the audio may be sufficiently louder. We won't know about this until reviews start coming out. This is still a mono speaker, so you will have to wait for the next iPad to deliver stereo speakers. As we can see, the iPad 2 is not exactly a revolutionary new product, but an upgrade to the original iPad. Source:Techtree

LG Optimus 2X Android With Tegra 2 Processor
rajanmehta replied to rajanmehta's topic in Other handsets
LG Optimus 2X comes out on top of the Motorola ATRIX 4G in benchmarks We don't know if this is due to the fact that the retail Motorola ATRIX 4G doesn't have its Full HD 1080p video capabilities unlocked yet, but the LG Optimus 2X seems to come on top judging from several benchmark tests, including ours, especially in the graphics department, although both phones run the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core chipset. Moto said that a firmware update will come further down the road that will unlock Full HD 1080p video recording and HDMI playback for the Motorola ATRIX 4G, which our review showed it is not able to do now. Rumors pegged the reason to be power-management issues Motorola had with the Tegra 2 chipset, not only on the ATRIX 4G, but also on the DROID BIONIC, so it is probably ironing it out with NVIDIA. This is the companies' first effort with a dual-core chipset, so we can cut them some slack, but still LG has nailed it from the first try, and it shows in the benchmark results. The Test Lineup In the graphics department the LG Optimus 2X clearly comes on top both in older and newer benchmark tests: As for productivity and browser performance, the LG Optimus 2X and the Motorola ATRIX 4G have a negligible difference from one another, which is again a bit odd since the ATRIX 4G has double the RAM at 1GB vs the 512MB on the Optimus 2X. It is worth noting, however, that both dual-core phones are roughly three times ahead of the single core chipsets in these browser and general productivity measurements. Whatever causes Motorola's problems figuring out the performance of the Tegra 2 chipset on it handsets, hopefully the promised firmware update will remedy that. Granted, the ATRIX 4G has a screen with larger 540x960 resolution to fill in with pixels than the 480x800 resolution on the LG Optimus 2X, but it also has twice the RAM, so what gives, Moto? Cool Things You Can Do With A Wireless Router

D-Link offers PowerLine 802.11n router... Use Your Home's Electrical Points in Addition to Wireless!!! Product Page http://www.dlink.com...s/?pid=DHP-1320 Using PowerLine technology, router and modem maker D-Link unveiled the Hybrid Wireless N PowerLine Router, also known as the DHP-1320, a networking solution for extending wired and wireless home networks using a home's existing electrical wiring. The 802.11n 300 device offers throughput of up to 200Mbps and uses the Atheros Hy-Fi chipset to expand coverage and simplify setup and management. The device is aimed at helping to extend Ethernet or Wi-Fi networks into what would otherwise be "dead zones" either too far away from the router, too heavily shielded (like a basement or attic) or too impractical to string additional wiring to. The D-Link device provides previously unreliable areas with bandwidth sufficient for HD video, gaming, VOIP and other uses, turning the existing electrical system into an extended Ethernet network. The DHP-1320 is simply connected to the high-speed cable, DSL or satellite modem, then plugged into an electrical outlet -- instantly distributing broadband to every electrical outlet in the home. PowerLine adapters are then used to connect computers and other internet devices either through a wired or wireless connection. The DHP-1320 comes with three 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports, supports WPA2 wireless encryption (the PowerLine network itself is also protected using 128-bit AES security), and easy network configuration. The unit also supports IPv6 for future-proofing. Accessories include a PowerLine AV 4-port switch, a Wireless N extender and Network Starter Kit. The DHP-1320 itself costs $130, and the various adapters range from $100 to $140. Source:electronista -
ODROID-A tablet fits 1366 x 768 res on a 10-inch screen, dual-core Exynos inside transparent shell Engadget Samsung might not have quite enough Exynos 4210 processors to sell a tablet of its own based on that Cortex-A9 dual-core beastie, but it's found a few to hand over to Korean partner Hardkernel for this here ODROID-A reference platform. It's strictly a dev kit, and as such is unlikely to find its way to your local Best Buy any time soon, but we have to admire the specs on offer. First up is the delightfully dense 1366 x 768 resolution, a rare sight on a 10-inch display, followed by a transparent rear panel that bests anything out on the market right now in terms of sheer sex appeal, and then there are also two MicroSD slots, a HSPA+ modem, HDMI output, a USB 2.0 port, cameras on the front and rear, and a crazy 9000mAh battery. How all this is supposed to only cost $750, we don't know, but then we also don't know how to qualify to get one when it becomes available later this month. 99.7% Of People Still Haven't Bought A Tablet Yet Business Insider Apple's iPad tablet is probably the fastest-selling new consumer electronics device ever, but the potential for growth in the tablet market for Apple, Google, RIM and others is still massive. Only 0.3% of the Earth's inhabitants owned a tablet at the end of 2010, RBC analyst Mike Abramsky notes today in a detailed, 88-page report about the future of the tablet market. That means 99.7% of the people on Earth still haven't bought a tablet yet! In this chart, Abramsky plots the tiny smartphone and tablet user base (394 million worldwide) versus other market, such as TV subscriptions (600 million), total PCs (1.3 billion), and mobile subscribers (5.1 billion). Abramsky predicts more than 400 million tablet users worldwide by 2014, including 185 million tablets sold in 2014. But he thinks Google Android, not Apple, will come to lead the market, representing 40% of the 2014 tablet market, versus 34% for Apple, 13% for Microsoft, 8% for BlackBerry, and 5% for HP WebOS.

Who is Winning the U.S. Smartphone Battle? March 3, 2011. nielsenwire. The answer depends on whether you're looking at operating systems or manufacturers. The battle for the hearts and minds of consumer smartphone owners continues to be a heated one according to data just released by The Nielsen Company. When it comes to consumer marketshare by operating system, Android (29%) appears to be pulling ahead of RIM Blackberry (27%) and Apple iOS (27%). But an analysis by manufacturer shows RIM and Apple to be the winners compared to other device makers since they are the only ones creating and selling smartphones with their respective operating systems. HTC follows with 12 percent of consumer smartphone owners having an HTC Android device and 7 percent owning an HTC device running a Microsoft OS. Ten percent of consumer smartphone owners had a Motorola Android device and one percent owned a Motorola device running a Microsoft OS. Finally, of the three most popular smartphone operating systems, Android seems to attract more young consumers.

iPad in iPad Alternatives? Yes.... It's Worth It... Apple iPad 2 Launched with Dual-core 1GHz CPU Slimmer, lighter, carries two cameras, and the launch cost is same as its predecessor After months of speculations and rumors, the moment has finally arrived. Apple has unveiled the second generation Apple iPad 2 tablet at an event held in San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. New Apple iPad 2 is mere 8.8mm thin and sports dual-core 1GHz Apple A5 processor but carries the same 9.7-inch display. Apple announced that the iPad 2 would be also be available in White color. The Apple iPad 2 retains the screen size with 9.7-inch LED-backlit display and the company clearly rubbished the possibility of any 7-inch tablet. It is said to be 33 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter compared to its predecessor. Design Although Apple CEO Steve Jobs couldn't stop emphasizing on the new design, the iPad 2 looks nothing different from the iPad from the front. However, when looked from the side, it certainly has shed a lot of weight and got the iPod touch 3G like slimmer back panel. Weighing a mere 1.3 pounds, the new iPad 2 measures 8.8mm slim which is just a hair thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2011. Processor Apple has used in-house designed dual-core 1GHz A5 System-on-Chip processor inside the second generation tablet. It's capable enough for multi-tasking, video recording, FaceTime video calls and loads apps faster. The Graphics core boosts nine times better visual performance compared to the first generation iPad. Cameras Back camera: Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still camera with 5x digital zoom Front camera: Video recording, VGA up to 30 frames per second with audio; VGA-quality still camera. Connectivity The iPad 2 will have 3G network support along with Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Apple has shelled out a new HDMI cable connector that promises 1080p HD video output when connected to the proprietary 30-pin dock connector port on the iPad 2. Other Features Apple has added three-axis gyrometer along with accelerometer in the iPad 2 that can be used in several innovative apps and mostly gaming. The side switch will now offer users two options - Mute or Rotation lock. Several users were unhappy when Apple had changed this function via a software update for the first generation iPad. At the back panel lies the speak mesh that seems to promise a decent audio out put. Battery life The battery life remains the same - 10 hours when in use and a month long stand by time. Pricing 16GB iPad 2 WiFi - $499 32GB iPad 2 WiFi - $599 64GB iPad 2 WiFi - $699 16GB iPad 2 WiFi+3G - $629 32GB iPad 2 WiFi+3G - $729 64GB iPad 2 WiFi+3G - $829 HDMI Connector Cable - $39 Poly Smart Cover in 5 colors - $39 Leather Smart Cover in 5 colors - $69 Availability The iPad 2 would be available from Apple Stores, AT&T and Verizon. 26 more countries will get Apple iPad 2 from March 25 onwards. It is not surprising that India isn't listed amongst those 26 countries. Apple iPad 2 will be available from March 11 in U.S and in some 24 other countries from March 25th. Source:Techtree
