@Genius I suggested Reliance CDMA but was shot down promptly because... -You yourself thinking of moving from CDMA...aur mujhe usme jana kyu? -Long SMS issue, She hates it when SMS come broken down in 2-3 parts on my CDMA phone...2nd and 3rd part sometime coming many minutes later... -SMS Special characters, regional language issue..She laughs heartily when all i receive is garbage on my CDMA Palm Pixi and she enjoys it the way it was sent on her Nokia.. When i try to explain the superiority of CDMA over GSM...She again laughs...Itni Chhoti baat to ho nahi sakti CDMA me..Mujhe kaha Doctorate karna hai technology pe... -She likes that Rs 98-2GB GPRS packs...Again laughs when i pay Rs 199 For 500MB Windows Mobile Plan on My CDMA.. -

Govt tells telcos to stick to MNP deadline Mobile operators lobbying for further deferring the pan-India rollout of mobile number portability (MNP) scheduled for January 20 have been told by the government to strictly stick to the deadline and have been warned not to violate the norms. The department of telecommunications (DoT), already in the dock over irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum, which according to the government audit watchdog Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) resulted in losses of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the state exchequer, has said there would be no further extension of MNP. "The operators cannot keep on arm-twisting the government every time. Some operators have conveyed to us about the difficulty they are facing in rolling out pan-India MNP from January 20. They have been given adequate time," said a telecom ministry official. MNP will allow mobile users to switch their operator while retaining their number. It has already been introduced in Haryana in late November last year. The government had earlier announced pan-India rollout from January 20. The DoT is also of the view that MNP will help subscribers if the government cancels the license of their operator for delaying its rollout and missing the 2G roll-out obligations or on the ground of their ineligibility. "We are planning to launch MNP nationwide by January 20. Once it is launched, consumers have options available even in a situation where some licencee or service provider loses his licence. Consumers can switch over without losing their numbers or services to other operators," R. Chandrasekhar, secretary, DoT, said. He clarified that there would be no delay in the launch of MNP pan-India. He said that the all operators will launch the service on time. Source: Mail Today -

Two things which i never knew before... .....That Bangalore is in West Bengal .....And Kesav has become Moderator, Otherwise how can he edit the header... BTW otherwise very correct observations, Dipan...

@kesav If you see A-la-carte pricing on Tata Sky and Airtel on the links you posted... They are charging different price for the same channel... Pricing is such that if one selects few good pay channels of various categories like entertainment, news, sports, movies...Total cost will nearly reach the package prices or even more... I think this DTH operators are not going to implement this A-la-Carte order in its spirit and will continue to make merry...

The Spectrum Tussle - Cdma V Gsm

SC issues notice to centre, telecom companies on cancellation of 2G licence NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the centre and the telecom ministry on petitions seeking cancellation of 2G spectrum allocation during the tenure of former telecom minister A Raja. The apex court also wondered how telecom minister Kapil Sabil could doubt the CAG finding when on that very basis the CVC had asked the CBI to register a case in the 2G scam. The court also made TRAI a party after taking exception to its silence on violation of licence agreements by those who got spectrum and recommending cancellation of licence only after A Raja's exit and SC taking up hearing of petitions. The court asked the companies to respond by February 1. The telecom companies to whom court issued notice are Etistat, Vodafone, Uninor, Loop Telecom, Videocon, S Tel, Allainz Infra, Idea Cellular, Tata Tele services, Sistema Shyam Teleservices and Dishnet Wireless.. The apex court is hearing two petitions seeking cancellation of all the licenses of 2G spectrum issued by former communications minister A Raja. Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy and advocate Prashant Bhushan have moved court to cancel all the 122 licenses. The court had last week upheld the plea of Swamy. Kapil Sibal had questioned the figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore arrived at by the CAG in calculating the losses in 2G spectrum allocation. The CAG report had made a severe indictment of A Raja for flouting rules in the allocation of 2G spectrum. Source:Times of India -

@Genius Alongwith your Don't List, If you can cover the following... Right from beginning, there is a Widespread belief that AIDS is ultimately not curable and death is certain...It's only a question, how long... This may be the case in very early days say 10-15 years back, but after that i read that there are many new effective drugs invented... Read somewhere about an Indian Pharma Co's some Cocktail Drug Invention... If you can cover Curability of Aids and New Drugs effectiveness...Should be Good Knowledge for All... -
The moment read the title NEAR BANKRUPT, first thought was to cancell all those tickets and get the refund...Kya pata badme vapas mile na mile... Media Sure Knows how to add MASALA to a simple, known to everyone STORY... Bankrupcy means The Liabilities are so Large that there is no chance of repaying the Debts fully even if all Assets are Sold... And How Can a Govt. of India Enterprise be Bankrupt till the Govt. itself is BANKRUPT..? Here the issue is lack of funds for Capital Expansion Programmes of Railways and Not Bankrupcy.. It's Revenue is still more than expenses...And it is Only after paying dividend to Govt of India of Rs 6,600 Crore that a small balance is left for Capital Expenditure... The Whole Article does not say anything about Railways Liabilities and Assets.....To Consider it as Bankrupt... Hell..if we go by MSN Defination of Bankrupcy...Govt. Of India is Already Bankrupt...Every Year in Budget, The Expenses are more than Revenue...And there is deficit financing...

CBI registers PE to probe role of banks in 2G scam NEW DELHI: The CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) to probe the role of certain public sector banks, including the State Bank of India, for providing loans to certain companies who were allocated the 2G Spectrum in 2007-08 including Uninor and STel. The PE was registered by the Bank Securities and Fraud Cell of the CBI against unknown bank officials, official sources said here today. The allegation is that some banks had allegedly violated the laid down norms and provided finance to two real estate companies who made forays into the telecom market by procuring the spectrum auctioned during the said period, the sources said. This is the second PE registered by the CBI in connection with the 2G spectrum scam besides a regular case against unknown officials of the Department of Telecom and private companies. According to the PE, the banks provided loans, worth over Rs 11,500 crore, to two real-estate companies by completely ignoring the risk factors, given that the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had already registered a case in the 2G scam and the CBI had begun its probe. The public sector banks allotted Rs 10,000 crore to Unitech and Rs 1,538 crore to STel, based just on the licence papers issued by the Department of Telecom (DoT). Out of the Rs 10,000-crore loan to Unitech, the major chunk was disbursed by the State Bank of India which provided a loan of Rs 8,050 crore to the Unitech during 2009-2010. The other banks which gave money to Unitech for its Uninor company were Corporation Bank , Allahabad Bank , South Indian Bank , Canara Bank , Oriental Bank, Central Bank of India , Punjab National Bank , Standard Chartered Bank and Yes Bank . The other company was STel which got the Rs 1538-crore loan from IDBI and IDBI Trusteeship Services Limited, during the period between July to November 2009. In December last year, the Supreme Court had come down heavily on public sector banks for their role in the 2G spectrum scam. A two-judge bench of Justices G S Singhvi and AK Ganguly had said that massive amounts were lent by some public sector banks to the 2G licencees and it must be investigated. The bench had pointed out that about Rs 600-700 crore were lent out as if it was an amount like Rs 60-70. The court also questioned how did public sector banks continued to disburse loans to telecom companies even after the CBI registered an FIR in connection with the 2G scam and searched the premises of the telecom companies in October 2009.
