MNP - Are you Switching your Mobile Operator?
rajanmehta posted a topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Mobile Number Portability is now launched in Haryana and expected to be operational all over India by 20th January 2011. If we go by the media reports, internet buzz, it seems that majority of the mobile customers will switch to a new operator as they are not happy with the present operator. But will that be the actual scenario? MNP Experience in most countries have been different and the actual migration has not crossed more than 5% anywhere. So what do you as an actual Consumer think? Please participate in the poll and do post your comments regarding reasons for migrating OR not migrating. Let's get the real picture. Thanks. -

Eye Writer How do you communicate when your brain is active but your body isn't? The EyeWriter, a collaboration from the Ebeling Group, the Not Impossible Foundation and Graffiti Research Lab, uses low-cost eye-tracking glasses and open-source software to allow people suffering from any kind of neuromuscular syndrome to write and draw by tracking their eye movement and translating it to lines on a screen. The device was created for Tony "Tempt" Quan, an L.A.-based graffiti artist who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 2003. After trying the EyeWriter — the first time he'd drawn anything since he was fully paralyzed — Quan said, "It feels like taking a breath after being held underwater for five minutes." The device is an eye-tracking camera that mounts to a pair of glasses, which interprets eye movement as cursor or pen movement. but it's not just that it's eye-tracking software, which has existed for years. It's that it's a) open source, designed to be an inexpensive DIY task, and c) implemented with software that allows paralyzed people to again re-engage with life and helps using Computers for Drawing, Text-Input and Communicating. Beauty of the device is that it is assembled from commonly available hardware at a Cost of Approx. $ 50. This is what i call real meaningful use of Technology.

Huawei Ideos to launch in India this month for a sub 8K price One of the most talked about Android launches of the year is finally making its way to India. At the ongoing India Telecom 2010, we visited the Huawei booth and got out first good look at the cheapest Android 2.2 smartphone. Huawei Ideos was first announced at the IFA trade fair in Germany, and subsequently launched in many countries and got rave reviews, but it is yet to make its debut in India. During our small talk with the Huawei Team, they said Ideos will be the first of their Android 2.2 range to be launched in India and it will happen very soon i.e. this month. Officially they have not decided a final price for the smartphone, but according the company, the price would be sub Rs 8,000; we hope it comes down to sub 7,000 to beat Micromax Andro pricewise. Huawei Ideos is a feature packed FroYo powered smartphone, which was manufactured in partnership with Google to make Android a mass OS. It features a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen, 528MHz processor, 3.2MP camera, brightness, proximity and accelerometer sensors built in, MicroSD storage, Android Vanilla UI, HSDPA, Bluetooth and Wi-FI connectivity. This is Huaxi, China's richest village! Mera India Kab Aisa Hoga? Read On and Be Amazed!!! Image: New houses are seen at Huaxi village in Jiangsu province. Huaxi village, set up in 1961, is China's richest village. It is also called the No.1 Village of China. Here everyone lives in a villa and owns cars -- imported cars. Image: A row of new homes in Huaxi village. In this village of Huaxi, a booming market town of 36,000 in China's affluent eastern province of Jiangsu, every family has at least one house or villa, two cars and $250,000 in the bank. Image: A man watches the Huaxi village from a vantage point. The villagers homes/villas are of around 4,000 sq ft to 6,000 sq ft area. The annual sales revenue of the village is around $30.78 billion. Image: A woman looks at jewellery in a shop in Huaxi village. One man is credited with turning around the fortunes of the village: Wu Renbao, who was the secretary of the village's local branch of the Communist Party. Read on to find out how he did it . Image: Lu Jianmin watches television inside her house in Huaxi village. Wu Renbao adopted a set of policies that were an amalgam of free market economics and customary principles of communism. Image: A woman carrying a baby walks at a tourist area of Huaxi village. About 40 years ago, Wu Renbao, a farmer himself, propelled a movement which saw Huaxi transform itself from an agriculture-driven economy into an industrial powerhouse. Image: Workers wait for an elevator at the construction site of a high-rise building in Huaxi village. The village built factories by the hundreds and the disciplined villagers, who all work seven days a week and take breaks only once in a while, soon realised the fruits of hard labour and smart transition from agriculture to industry. Image: An employee works at a clothes factory in Huaxi village. The village itself is like no other Chinese village or city. It resembles a western suburb that has been just plucked from the American countryside and transplanted into China. Image: An employee works at a clothes factory in Huaxi village. Officials from elsewhere in China tour Huaxi to find out how this once sleepy village, with just 576 residents in the 1950s, is now so rich and why non-local businessmen would donate million-dollar factories to buy the privilege of a local residence permit. Image: An employee works at the Huaxi Iron and Company in Huaxi village. Huaxi Village has adhered to a path of 'relying on the collective economy and working for common prosperity', says People's Daily. Image: An employee works at the Huaxi Iron and Company in Huaxi village. Big items like villas and cars are distributed in a uniform way to the villagers here. People do not have to pay for it as the village distributes this wealth. Image: Pollution is seen over an industrial area of Huaxi village. The construction and decoration are uniformly designed by the village, and also paid for by the village. Rediff

MNP - Are you Switching your Mobile Operator?
rajanmehta replied to rajanmehta's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
@Greatest +1 Yes. Kunal. Liked your smart idea about actually checking out the coverage in the areas where one is going to use the network. Very Practical, particularly when no one network is strong everywhere. Doing this before actually shifting your primary number is good otherwise again we will have to wait for 90 Days. -

@Hitesh. Thanks mate. Let's see the validity of the point First the Forum allows maximum 3 questions in a Poll. So i don't understand how all 3 polls can be merged with this poll and still all the questions intact. Presuming more questions are possible, Let's see how the merged poll, questions and choices will look like. 1. GSM or CDMA what will you choose -GSM -CDMA 2. What Operator will you Choose -Airtel -Hutch -BSNL & MTNL -Idea -Aircel -Spice -Reliance -TATA Indicom 3. Which Generation of Technology will you Prefer -GSM -CDMA -HSDPA (3G GSM) (7 to 12 Mbps Download in 5 Mhz) -EVDO (3G CDMA (Upto 3.6 mbps download in 1.25 Mhz 4. With Mobile Number Portability Available, Are You Switching Your Current Mobile Operator -Yes, I am Switching to a New Operator -No, I am Pretty Happy and not switching Now Try Voting. MNP - Are you Switching your Mobile Operator?

I understand and appreciate the RIMweb member community to be smart and intelligent enough to differentiate between chalk and cheese!! Though every voter's intelligence is rated very low by being not able to differentiate between loksabha or Bidhansabha polls, i hope You all can differentiate the context between the three poles mentioned. One says Post MNP whether you will prefer GSM or CDMA- This was when MNP was not introduced. Second Says which operator you will move to- This was when MNP was not introduced. Third asks Whether you will leave Reliance when MNP is available- This was when MNP was not introduced Now here we are talking about Whether you will change your operator now since MNP is already available and in the background of media reports that there will be massive migration of customers and actual low migration experience worldwide. This is an overall assessment of how much total migration we can expect and has no direct relevance with the earlier polls. Every Voter in India is very intelligent and smart and political parties have understood this at their own peril. -
Hari, Don't need to understand anything above as not having EPIC But..... Appreciate the modest approach (Much needed at RIMweb) reflected in the words of Topic Description "By the NOOB for the NOOB". And +1 For that.

First Chrome OS Netbook Expected this Month
rajanmehta replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
Google Unveils more of Chrome OS, Netbooks in 2011 After an array of announcements since yesterday, at an event held in San Fransisco, Google finally unveiled the latest avatar of the Chrome OS. Apart from the things that we already know about the "Cloud" based OS, here are the latest juicy tidbits. - The Chrome Web Store will be a centralized location for people to discover new web apps. They are divided into categories like the way apps are in the Android OS. Some of the popular examples are TweetDeck and Amazon Kindle. The store will consist of free as well as paid web-apps. Technically, as these are web-apps most can pretty much be opened on any other browser and in any other OS by going to chrome.google.com/webstore once it's live later in the day. But the installation, navigation and integrated payment system will work only in Chrome. Bottomline: It'd be better if you use the Chrome browser. -There's a Cloud Printing service that lets you wirelessly print to any device on the network using a Chrome OS netbook. -At the times when the Internet connection is not available, you can still use apps offline provided they are designed that way. For example, a button on the top-right switches Google Docs into offline mode so you can continue work even offline. -Chrome OS Netbooks will come with a Qualcomm Gobi wireless modem that will work worldwide. In the US, CDMA operator Verizon has been chosen to provide Internet access on the go. Plans start from USD 9.99 per month, and the first 100MB data per month is free for two years. There's no contracts to be signed before using this service. - Citrix, a virtual desktop app maker, showed off Microsoft Excel and Solidworks eDrawings running within the Chrome browser window (the actual apps were running at a remote data center) - Notebooks (mind you, not Netbooks) from Acer and Samsung running Chrome OS would go on sale globally in mid-2011. Other OEMs will follow later. Sorry to break it to you fellas, but no official Google-branded Netbooks in today's announcement. But... -They're staring a Chrome OS Pilot program where they have a testing-grade, non-commercial notebook running Chrome OS. Initially, only a certain companies will get their hands on one. If you live in the US, there's a chance you might get one if you register at their Application page here. Applicants will get the Notebook codenamed CR-48. It's features are as follows: - a 12.1 inch display- an Atom processor- full-sized keyboard - big touchpad- Wi-fi 802.11n and World-mode 3G- 8+ hours of active use battery life- A webcam - Runs on an SSD (Solid State Disk) and weighs 3.8 pounds (1.72 kilograms) There you go, those are the highlights of the Google Chrome announcement that just happened. For regular joes like you and me to get their hands on a device running Chrome OS, it's still disappointingly a couple of months to go. Techtree
