Image Quality of DSLR vs Compact Camera
rajanmehta replied to drali's topic in General Technical Discussion
Read this exhaustive and clearly explained article for Optical vs. Digital Zoom http://www.photoxels...l-digital-zoom/ . Better lighting in addition to Camera's flash will always give you better pictures as all studio like photographs you see have additional and focused lighting. When you see beautiful pimple in all its glory on an actress face with photo taken by someone like Gautam Rajadyaksh, it is due to focused lighting. -

Hide And Password Protect Your Files And Folders For Free
rajanmehta replied to abhi.r's topic in General Technical Discussion
Checkout this great free utilities (Some cases Shareware) for hiding, encrypting folders and data. http://www.makeuseof...-freeware-apps/ Beware before use, understand each app properly otherwise may land you in trouble. Additionally both XP and Windows 7 has inbuilt tools in NTFS file system for making folders private. This is good option if one creates normal users, logs in with admin for himself and switch users as and when necessary. -

Samsung Epic 4G Vs Htc Evo Vs Htc Incredible
rajanmehta replied to gaurangbhartia's topic in Android
I wonder any of the veterans have ever tried programming this beauties on BSNL CDMA. This may cover a large segment of users who are outside the coverage area of Tata Photon+ and Reliance Netconnect Broadband+. Also in BSNL, Unlimited EVDO is available at Rs 750 per month (though with USB Modem but there may be some way) so no crying for cheap and affordable data. Can be a killer combo for many users craving for such handsets. -
Source: Techtree Apple's iOS operating system hacker, the Chronic Dev Team, has announced that it will release new jailbreak tool Greenpois0n for iOS 4.1 based devices. Joshua Hill aka p0sixninja confirmed the estimated time of arrival of greenpois0n through his Twitter account. The Chronic Dev Team has chosen binary date - October 10, 2010 (10/10/10) and binary time 10:10:10 AM in the morning for the release. Don't ask why because it means a lot to geeks. New Greenpois0n jailbreak would be usable for all Apple iOS 4.1 based new iPhone 4, fourth-gen iPod, iPad and the latest Apple TV models. So, on October 10, you can visit greenpois0n.com and download the necessary jailbreak tools for your iOS 4.1 running device. This jailbreak tool will have a self-explanatory interface that can be used to jailbreak your device and install Cydia package manager on it. The iPhone Dev Team's SHAtter exploit on Apple TV shown earlier this week will bring untethered jailbreak only to latest Apple A4 SoC based iPhone 4, iPod touch and iPad devices. The iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd confirmed that the SHAtter exploit and greenpois0n won't work on iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 3G. A generic jailbreak tool, that will be usable with any generation of iOS running device with any version of iOS update, would be out eventually. But till then, loads of testing will take place. So far, neither the iPhone Dev team nor the Chronic Dev Team has seriously tried to prevent installation of cracked apps on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Although both teams warn users against piracy, certain apps and libraries that allow cracked iOS Apps exist.

Image Quality of DSLR vs Compact Camera
rajanmehta replied to drali's topic in General Technical Discussion
Could have supported all my answers with various links, data and what not? But if the exact use which you outlined is the case, no need to spend huge amounts on DSLR's. With advancements in Technology, today's Digital Camera's are up for the job. This is like a debate which raged in early nineties for reliability and performance between SCSI Hard Drives and SATA. See where SCSI Hard Drives today. It is already dead and even in Servers you find SATA Hard Disks good enough for the job. Example is not entirely related but you can understand what i am trying to Say. Technology advancement has broken many age old notions and beliefs which many of us generally still hold true. DSLR in your particular usage scenario will be more of a style statement and ego booster at a huge cost rather than offering any real world tangible benefits compared to a good spec digital camera.. -

OFFTOPIC @raccoon Check Tikona Wibro if it is available in your area. It is wireless. Does not have totally unlimited plans but have heard good feedbacks here in Mumbai. Moreover they first give a demo to your place so you can satisfy yourself whether a good signal is available. Link For Tikona Tariff Plans for Pune http://www.tikona.in...cityid=1&mid=13 -
BSNL Slashes Its 3G Internet Further
rajanmehta replied to in.raghav's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
A good move from BSNL. It was forced to pay for 3G Spectrum in all circles at the higest rates bid by private operators. It had no choice to choose and bid for a particular circle based on commericial viability. Now it has to recover those thousands of crores which deplted its reserves badly. Except Mumbai and New Delhi, BSNL is everywhere though good 3g network may be a question mark at some places. But BSNL's this move may get it even the usual broadband subscribers in addition to Mobile 3g subscribers who are crying for good speed unlimited data plans and which private operators are not giving. With 3g Sim USB Modems available only at Rs 1200, it may garner a huge chunk of such subscribers and may have good impact on broadband tariffs of private operators. It may not have immediate impact on 3g tariffs of private operators till MNP Comes as all high end users are loath to change their numbers for economical plans. -

Techtree News Recently, French mobile operator SFR had accidentally put up details of Palm Pre 2 smartphone. Now, images of Palm Pre 2 were spotted at MobiFrance. Unlike the regular grainy photos, as most secretly leaked images are, these look like the first exclusive photos of Palm Pre 2. And as the French site mentions, Palm is set to launch new Pre 2 smartphone within days. Aesthetically, the Palm Pre 2 carries the form factor of Pre and Pre Plus. However, a bigger screen and flatter front does manage to interest us. Inside the phone lies 1GHz powerful microprocessor with 512MB memory that is deemed to make WebOS 2.0 fly. Check out the photos of Palm Pre 2 below.

Absolutely. +1 for factual post with facts and figures rather than abstract theories. On Speedtest.net, India is ranked at 138 out of a total of 185 countries in terms of broadband speed. Just have a look at the list of countries which are ahead of India, makes a shameful reading. By the way Pakistan is at 128th Place. -

Come on Dear!! The report is based on analyzing failure rates for over 30,000 laptops prepared by a company which is actually Warranty-Provider on the ground. If this does not look Reliable to our Skeptical mind, i wonder what will? I could not have purchased anything in Electronics, Gadgets in all this year's otherwise. I believe in Dhirajbhai's tech gamble theory along with intelligent research to convert the purchase decision as an informed one.

Source: Lifehacker Laptop Reliability Study Highlights The Most Sturdy Laptop Makers There's nothing worse than buying new gear that malfunctions shortly after you purchase it. If you're in the market for a new laptop, check out warranty-provider SquareTrade's detailed laptop-reliability report to find the most dependable hardware. The warranty company released a research paper late last year analyzing failure rates for over 30,000 laptops covered by their warranties. The report is full of good information worth considering before your next big purchase. The highlights of the study: Looking at the first 3 years of ownership, 31% of laptop owners reported a failure to SquareTrade. Two-thirds of this failure (20.4%) came from hardware malfunctions, and one-third (10.6%) was reported as accidental damage. Netbooks are projected to have a 20% higher failure rate from hardware malfunctions than more expensive laptop computers. ASUS and Toshiba were the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16% having a hardware malfunction over 3 years. It's interesting to note that, on a whole, netbooks are a lot more failure prone than laptops. It's also perhaps a little surprising that a company like Apple, known for its hardware, still ends up a percentage point or two worse off than companies like ASUS and Toshiba when it comes to laptop malfunction rates. Samsung Epic 4G Vs Htc Evo Vs Htc Incredible

What Dr. Mufaddal says about data being on affecting battery life is really true as in my case even on Palm Pixi when Data was on 24 hours, my mileage was only a day. Once the data stopped working, i am getting nearly 2.5 days with just voice and sms. And Yes when data is working in 1x, Voice calls will get a busy signal. But even if you are not actively accessing data in browser etc. for 24x7, still data being on makes a difference in battery life as background applications like mail sync will use data at regular intervals. -
New Reliance Netconnect Plans - The Way Forward For Reliance!
rajanmehta replied to HetalDP's topic in Data services
Wow!!! Can't wait to hear the details!! Hope this time it will be really competitive and will help Reliance CDMA stay ahead of the competition. Reliance has to understand just one thing that it has the same fanatic advanced user following as Apple has for Mac!! All this advanced users are opinion leaders and if Reliance has attractive data plans, it has no real competition as tarrifs, voice quality are all beyond competition. This is for their own good rather than users. -

MTNL Reduced The Broadband Rental For 512Kbps
rajanmehta replied to manishag's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
After TRAI declared that minimum 256 kbps speed will only be named as broadband by any ISP, there was a discussion paper wherein certain ISP's (Airtel or AirHELL was prominent in this) floated a suggestion to have FUP. TRAI has never issued any order authorising or making it mandatory for Unlimited Plans. Neither did it said as unauthorised. It is a commercial decision by the ISP to reduce the bandwidth requirements and share the same bandwidth with more users and discourage heavy downloaders who are on 24x7. Airtel started the data cap on all plans which were Unlimited and other ISP's have followed. It has no legal sanction. As of today, Airtel has FUP on all their Unlimited Plans. MTNL does not have FUP. If you want consistent service & download speed, stick to Airtel and change your plan to a higher data cap if you want to spend more. If 100% reliability & speed is not a huge concern, shift to MTNL & enjoy Unlimited download without FUP. MTNL has a fairly good network and works most of the time.
