Researchers Say They Can Hack Your iPhone With A Malicious Charger Source Careful what you put between your iPhone and a power outlet: That helpful stranger’s charger may be injecting your device with more than mere electrons. At the upcoming Black Hat security conference in late July, three researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology plan to show off a proof-of-concept charger that they say can be used to invisibly install malware on a device running the latest version of Apple’s iOS. Though the researchers aren’t yet sharing the details of their work, a description of their talk posted to the conference website describes the results of the experiment as “alarming. Despite the plethora of defense mechanisms in iOS, we successfully injected arbitrary software into current-generation Apple devices running the latest operating system (OS) software,” their talk summary reads. “All users are affected, as our approach requires neither a jailbroken device nor user interaction.” The researchers’ malicious charger, which they’re calling “Mactans” in what seems to be a reference to the scientific name of the Black Widow spider, is built around an open-source single-board computer known as a BeagleBoard, sold by Texas Instruments for a retail price of around $45. “This hardware was selected to demonstrate the ease with which innocent-looking, malicious USB chargers can be constructed,” the researchers write. It’s not clear just how convincing that charger will be, of course, given that a three-inch square BeagleBoard can’t fit into the smaller power adaptors Apple sells for charging its gadgets, like the one shown above. But a BeagleBoard could be hidden in a docking station or external battery, and the team hints that others with more resources may be able to advance their work: “While Mactans was built with [a] limited amount of time and a small budget, we also briefly consider what more motivated, well-funded adversaries could accomplish.” When I spoke by phone Friday with Yeongjin Jang, one of the Georgia Tech researchers, he told me that the team had contacted Apple about their exploit, but hadn’t yet heard back from the company, and declined to comment further. I reached out to Apple, too, and will update this post if the company responds. The researchers write that their attack can compromise an iOS device running the most recent version of Apple’s mobile operating system in less than a minute. They add that they can also demonstrate that the malware infection resulting from their malicious charger is persistent and tough to spot. “We show how an attacker can hide their software in the same way Apple hides its own built-in applications,” reads their description. The Georgia Tech researchers would be far from the first to hack iOS devices via their USB connections. The devices’ combined data and power port has been the most common point of entry for hackers seeking to jailbreak their devices to remove Apple’s default restrictions on their devices. The “evasi0n” jailbreak released by a group of iOS hackers in February, for instance, took advantage of a flaw in iOS’s mobile backup system as well as four other bugs to dismantle the devices’ security measures. That jailbreak was used more than 18 million times by iOS users eager to hack their iPhone, iPads and iPod touches before Apple updated their software to block the exploit in March. Given that Georgia Tech is demonstrating a far less friendly technique, expect Apple to move fast to patch the bugs they’re exposing.

Your graphics card does not even have DVI Port? If it has, you can use DVI to HDMI Cable for connecting PC to TV. D-Sub VGA port is really not recommended for connecting PC to Large Screen TV displays due to inherent limitations like it being more prone to noise interference / picture quality being an analogue interface compared to DVI/HDMI digital interfaces. Among the three LED TV you listed, Toshiba 32PB200 is preferable for Shopclues Deal at Rs 19,490 which seems to be the best available. Here again if the major use of TV is going to be as a PC Monitor, i personally don't prefer LED TV's as the color reproduction is garish/non natural and bright compared to LCD. It's somewhat similar to what we experience between a Super AMOLED and LCD display on mobile. The effect is more pronounced and uncomfortable particularly when one sits very near to the TV for longer time. If LCD TV will do, Toshiba 32 Inches LCD 32HV10ZE TV at Rs 15,741 is good deal. >> http://www.shopclues.com/toshiba-32hv10ze-lcd-television.html (Don't know if it has a VGA port)- 6,376 replies

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: 1.5 Star Rating Spare the trouble of rushing to the theater if you're a Ranbir Kapoor fan. Perhaps his first movie to disappoint. Utterly boring/slow mishmash remix of coming of age, friendship, romance ideas from Dil Chahta hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, many others and repeated a thousand times before. If that torture was not enough, you now have to suffer new age copy of the great indian marriage drama inspired from likes of Hum Aapke Hai Kaun but without any fat entertainment quotient.

HTC One with Nexus User Experience: Everything You Need To Know Source HTC and Google announced the stock Android version of HTC One smartphone yesterday. Set to go on sale in United States on June 26, the smartphone has been priced at $599. As there was no proper press release or announcement, lot of questions were left unanswered. Various blogs like Android Central, Android Police and The Verge got hold of the answers for many of these questions from HTC America or Google’s Hugo Barra and we have compiled a quick list of all these answers for you. May be these will satisfy any and all of your HTC One with Nexus experience queries. Which Android version is it running on and who will be providing future Android updates? HTC One with NUE aka Nexus User Experience (we will referring to it as NUE for rest of the post) will come with Android 4.2.2 and Google will provide future Android updates. How much is the internal storage? 32GB and there is no microSD card like the retail version Will FM Radio, IR Blaster or Beats Audio work on HTC One with NUE? No, No, and Yes. Beats Audio is hardware integrated but you can’t make any software tweaks. IR Blaster and FM radio won’t work. Will the HTC One’s weird button configuration remain same in HTC One with NUE? Yes, home button is still on the right and long press for Google Now and a double-tap for recent apps. What about camera customisations and will stock app affect the quality? There will be no camera customisations like Zoe in HTC One with NUE as it uses stock Android camera app. The Ultrapixel camera sensor is still present, so most probably you will get the same quality as HTC one retail version. Even Google’s Hugo Barra said – it’ll just “do what it does.” What about other software customisations like Blinkfeed? If you are really concerned about them, you are better off with retail version as HTC One with NUE will not have any of this and run pure Android. What about availability, will it ever make it out of United States? According to HTC, it will be available in the United States initially, but there are chances that it might be released outside US. What about network and LTE compatibility? Here is the list of support networks. HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US) As you can see the device supports GSM networks, so no luck for CDMA users. You will also get to use LTE on T-Mobile and AT&T in the United States. Will it be SIM-unlocked and bootloader unlocked? Yes, HTC One with NE will be SIM-Unlocked. The bootloader however will be locked out of the box similar to other Nexus devices but you can very easily unlock it with a single command. HTC One with Nexus User Experience full specifications Size: 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3mm Weight: 143g Display: 4.7 inch, Full HD 1080p, 468 PPI 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor Stock Android 4.2.2 microSIM card support Total on-board storage: 32GB RAM: 2 GB DDR2 Internal GPS antenna + GLONASS Digital compass, Gyro sensor, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi a/ac/b/g/n, Miracast wireless display standard, micro-USB 2.0 Dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers, Beats Audio HTC UltraPixel Camera with BSI sensor, Pixel size 2.0 µm, Sensor size 1/3′, F2.0 aperture and 28 mm lens Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) Front Camera: 2.1 MP, 880 wide angle lens with HDR capability 2300 mAh battery

Samsung Galaxy S4 Gets Official Price Cut in India Source NEW DELHI: Planning to buy a Samsung Galaxy S4? Here's good news for you, the device has recently received an official price cut in the Indian market, barely a month after its launch. The phone, which launched in India on the day of its global launch at a price tag of Rs 41,500, is now selling at Rs 40,300 on Samsung India e-store. This translates to a discount of Rs 1,200. The company is also offering a 12-month EMI option for the device. However, while the official price cut is recent, some of the major e-commerce websites in the country like Flipkart and Snapdeal have been selling Galaxy S4 at this price since many weeks now. In fact, some of the smaller online retailers are selling the device for under Rs 40,000. Another smartphone to receive a price cut is Samsung's week-old phone Galaxy Grand Quattro. The company's cheapest phone with quad-core processor was listed at Rs 18,260 on the India website at the time of launch. The device is now priced at Rs 16,900, a reduction of Rs 1,360. This phone, a rival of Micromax Canvas HD, can be purchased for approximately Rs 16,570 on e-commerce websites.

TRAI Imposes New SMS Termination Charges To Reign in Spam SMS Source TRAI has issued new regulations to curb the SMS issues amongst operators and help subscribers. These include a new regulation which will lead to an SMS termination charge of 2 paise applicable across networks for non-commercial messages. Along with this TRAI has also passed an amendment on the termination fee to 5 paise for the commercial messages which was proposed in the regulations made in the year 2010. The regulations will be applicable from June 1 this year. The Short Message Services (SMS) Termination Charges Regulations, 2013, has been issued to resolve the issue between operators over using the receiver’s infrastructure for delivering messages. Newer operators with lesser number of subscribers were benefiting by not paying termination charges and with “unilateral imposition of SMS termination charge” on using the infrastructure of major operators like Airtel and Vodafone with higher subscriber base. Last year, Airtel had taken the initiative and banned SMSes from Aircel, but later allowed it after the government stepped in. A termination charge is paid by the carrier on which the SMS or call originated to the carrier whose subscriber it is delivered. Without any termination charge, the carrier on whose network the SMS terminated would get nothing and yet is expected to deliver the message using its resources. Along with this, TRAI has also amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010 which will lead to an SMS charge of 5 paise per transactional SMS. These are mainly applicable to the commercial SMSes. “The smaller operators are selling bulk SMSs to the telemarketers at comparatively cheap price and the revenue earned by them through the sale of bulk SMS is primarily because they are able to send large number of transactional and promotional SMS to the subscribers of other networks.” According to TRAI these moves has been taken, “especially due to exponential increase in the number of commercial SMSs, large imbalance in SMS traffic between the networks of interconnecting service providers, unilateral imposition of SMS termination charge and in case of non agreement, disconnection by some dominant service providers and growing litigations amongst the service providers.” This apart, TRAI has also issued twelfth amendment to the The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations which will help in controlling the Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC). Two years back, TRAI had released DND service as a part of this regulation to resolve the menace of commercial messages from telemarketers, which were sending messages without registering as a telemarketer with TRAI. Telemarketers will not only pay a promotional SMS charge to 5 paise per SMS but will have to adhere to certain guidelines as well. According to the new amendment the originating Access provider will have to disconnect the services to a commercial telemarketer with immediate effect, if there would be any complaint registered and proven against these telemarketers. Moreover, such subscribers will have to be blacklisted by all access providers for a period of two years to be maintained separately for this purpose. No telecom resources will be allotted to such blacklisted subscriber by any Access Provider. This provision comes into force within 30 days from the date of publication in the Gazette. -
