  3. Broadband options in Chennai

I have used only YOU among the three. It was not good because it did not deliver promised speed consistently. But that was in Mumbai. Elsewhere i have heard, many are OK with YOU. You should checkout if either of the three can provide Fiber/Cable connectivity in your area as WiFi won't be good because you're heavy downloader. I have only seen very bad reviews for Tikona everywhere.

  12. Bharti, Idea, Vodafone Can't Add New 3G Customers Till Final Order: SC Source NEW DELHI: In what may be a big blow to major telecom operators in the country, the Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that Bharti Airtel, Idea and Vodafone cannot add new 3G customers till further notice. The court has allowed Vodafone and Idea to be party to the 3G roaming case. While existing customers can still avail the current services, no new customers can be added by Bharti in seven circles, the court ruled. A bench, led by the CJI, issued notices to all parties and BSNL to formally place their views on the subject before the court within four weeks. The case will now be listed on May 9, for final hearing. The seven circles where Airtel does not have license to provide 3G services are Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh East and Kerala. Airtel services in these circles came under a threat after the Delhi High Court vacated a stay on a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) order asking it to pay Rs 350 crore and stop these services at Reliance Communication's instance. Reliance Communicatios claimed that it had suffered a Rs 5000 crore loss in its 3G services despite paying huge license fees for it. Bharti then came to the top court in appeal. Vodafone and Idea have also joined Bharti in the top court. An HC division bench had on April 4 vacated a single order permitting Airtel to continue its 3G services inHaryana, Kolkata, UP East, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, MP and Chhattisgarh. The DoT had on March 15 issued a notification restraining Bharti from providing 3G intra-circle roaming facilities in seven circles where it did not have the spectrum and also levied a penalty of Rs 350 crore (Rs 50 crore per circle) for allegedly violating the licence terms and conditions. The telecom major challenged the decision of the division bench of the high court which had set aside its single judge's March 18 order staying the DoT notification. Hitesh Shah, Research Analyst said "The apex cort's decision is both positive and negative for the companies." Earlier this week, Supreme Court had asked the government to refrain from taking any "coercive steps" against Bharti Airtel, accused of illegally providing intra-circle roaming facilities in seven circles where it did not have the licences for the 3G spectrum. The apex court heard the petition filed by Bharti Airtel challenging the Delhi High Court's order giving its nod to the Centre's decision holding the 3G roaming pact of the telecom major as illegal. The high court's division bench passed the order on a plea by Reliance Communications Ltd challenging the single judge's order saying it has been incurring huge losses for the 3G on a daily basis and Bharti has been using it free of cost. Senior advocate Abhishekh Singhvi, appearing for Airtel, said the division bench of the high court was wrong in entertaining the plea of Reliance as it was not a party before the single judge.

  20. Karbonn A6 seems to be a terrible phone. No pinch to zoom, very low storage (104MB) for app installation, possibly no multi touch screen, Chrome browser not installing. Some investigative dudes are even claiming that Karbonn just made some build prop changes to show the android version as ICS but its gingerbread under the hood. All indian brand androids around 5K budget range does suffer from one drawback or another. Instead of wasting money & repenting later, increase the budget by Rs 2,200 and consider XOLO A700. It's the best/balanced mix of specs/features/design/quality one can get at around Rs 7,200 from any indian brand android.
  21. Firstly can it be done legally? How DOT will allocate 3G spectrum to airtel in those circles if they do that? Secondly even if it can be done, other than getting a pleasure of airtel being punished, it would end up hurting you the consumer as you'll pay much MORE for 3G.

  23. Updated: Apple Sues Samsung - Apple Wins Patent Case

German court Rejects Apple's "Slide To Unlock" Patent Claim Source 05 April 2013 A German court has rejected Apple's "slide to unlock" patent claim, including the 14 amendments that the company suggested for salvaging the patent application, delivering another setback for the iPhone maker in its legal battle with rivals after the US Patent Office recently invalidated its ''bounce back'' patent. According to Foss Patents blogger Florian Mueller who is a paid consultant for several tech companies, German federal patent court, Bundespatentgericht, has invalidated all patent claims related to Apple's "slide to unlock" user interface. Apple had filed cases across Europe seeking ban of sales on some of Samsung and Motorola devices claiming that several of their smartphones infringed on its "slide to unlock" patent. Although Apple can appeal the ruling, the court ruled that the description given by the company for its European Patent EP1964022 application for "unlocking a device by performing gestures on an unlock image" lacked the technical innovation to be granted a patent. The court said that the invention described by Apple in the patent is an old software module that several mobile handset manufacturers have brought out similar design workarounds to do the same basic slide to unlock functionality and Apple's application does not meet technical requirement under European patent law. The ruling comes after the Munich Regional Court in early 2012 granted Apple a permanent injunction against Motorola for infringing its slide to unlock patent, but the Mannheim Regional Court had just a month later rejected a similar plea by Apple against Samsung. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ‘Bounce-Back’ Patent Bounces Back On Apple … And its Samsung Lawsuit Win Source April 2, 2013 The USPTO may just have made a billion-dollar decision. Or at least several hundred million. Ever scrolled to the bottom of a long page on your iPhone, then watched the page lift up from the bottom of the screen and then bounce back? Apple patented that rubber-banding effect, and it was reportedly one of Steve Jobs’ favorite things about the iPhone, since it adds verisimilitude, making what is virtual act as if it is real. That specific iPhone behavior was one of the issues in Apple’s billion-dollar courtroom victory over Samsung, seven months ago. Now, that patent is on shaky ground, and so is Apple’s legal win — or at least part of the proceeds of that win. According to a recent Samsung court filing, Apple patent 7,469,381 patent has been invalidated by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in a statement called a “Final Office Action:” This Final Office Action by the USPTO is relevant because it finally rejects multiple claims of the ‘381 patent … This final rejection includes claim 19, which is the only claim of the ‘381 patent at issue in this action. The jury found at trial that 21 accused Samsung products infringed claim 19 of the ‘381 patent. Claim 19, along with 18, comprise the bounce-back portion of this patent — the ability of the iPhone to show a surface “beneath” a document when the end of the document is reached and then bounce the document back over it. Apple’s original billion-dollar victory, of course, was reduced by Justice Koh a month ago to $450 million. And a new trial is expected to determine the final value of the judgement. With Samsung arguing that one of Apple’s key patents has now been ruled invalid, the amount could go down yet again. Both companies are, of course, posturing, with Apple claiming in late 2012 that the billion dollar settlement was $700 too little. Originally, Apple had requested $2.5 billion in compensation. According to Samsung, the USPTO rejected the patent on March 29 of this year. Apple is likely to appeal the ruling. The never-ending trial of the smartphone giants continues …
  24. Above prophecy came true. Had a horrible experience with Indiatimes Shopping. Ordered a phone worth 12K on 20th March 2013. They did not ship it for many days. Followed it up many times. On 1st April they registered a complaint saying it will be resolved within 2 days. Nothing happenned. Today on 5th April after 15 days from order, i received a call saying they are cancelling the order because the product is not in stock but When i was following up earlier, i was told it's getting delayed because of holidays. Now for Refund, they are saying it will take more 5 to 10 working days (I am not even hopeful on that front as they usually take much more time then that) BTW other phone that i ordered from Ebay was delivered within 5 days. Even for refunds from major websites, it's usually credited immediately / within 24 hours. Guess i am not alone.
