Rahul Gandhi walks into ICICI to cash a cheque. As he approaches the cashier he says, "Good morning Ma'am, would you please cash this cheque for me?" Cashier: "It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID?" RG: "Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I am Vice President of the Congress Party. future PM. Cashier: "Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the regulations and monitoring of the banks because of impostors and forgers and requirements etc., I must insist on seeing ID." RG: "Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am." Cashier: "I am sorry sir but these are the bank rules and I must follow them." RG: "I am urging you, please, to cash this check." Cashier: "Look Sir here is an example of what we can do. One day, Sachin Tendulkar came into the bank without ID. To prove he was Sachin he pulled out his bat and made a beautiful shot across the bank. With that shot we knew him to be Sachin and cashed his check." "Another time, Mahesh Bhupati came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made a fabulous shot whereas the tennis ball landed in my cup. With that shot we cashed his check. So, sir what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you, future PM?" RG stands there thinking, and thinking, and finally says, "Honestly, my mind is a total blank... There is nothing that comes to my mind. I can't think of a single thing. I have absolutely no idea what to do; I just don't have a clue". Cashier: "Sir should i give Rs 500 OR Rs 1000 Notes?

  3. Au by KDDI - HTC EVO 3D - ISW12HT on Reliance CDMA?

This Au KDDI & Sprint EVO 3D model is exactly the same in specs. Japan runs different varieties of CDMA networks and some of the phones there will be not compatible with CDMA networks elsewhere. But this KDDI EVO 3D model does not seem to be among the incompatible. Devices mentioned as Passport Global in specs at Au KDDI should run on CDMA networks in india. (This one does show as Passport Global)

Ericsson Sues Micromax For Patent Infringement, Claims About Rs 100 crore In Damages Source NEW DELHI: Ericsson, the world's largest mobile network infrastructure player, has sued homegrown handset major Micromax for patent infringement, marking the arrival of bigticket technology patent litigation to Indian shores. The Swedish network equipment maker has moved the Delhi High Court claiming about Rs 100 crore in damages, saying it was taking legal action after three years of negotiations failed to yield a licence agreement on 'standards-essential' patents. The claimed damages make it the largest patent suit in India's IT and telecom space, reckon patent experts. Ericsson alleged that India's largest domestic handset maker has refused to enter into a licensing agreement covering its patented innovations across several wireless technology standards such as GSM, EDGE and 3G. Justice Manmohan of the Delhi High Court, in an interim order last week, asked Micromax to pay between 1.25% and 2% of the sale price of disputed devices and deposit the amount with the court. The court also allowed Ericsson executives to join customs officials in inspecting Micromax's consignments to check for devices violating its patents. "Indian courts respond swiftly and with speed, if a strong case is made out. This case marks the arrival of big ticket patent litigation in India," said Ericsson's counsel Pratibha Singh. Executives close to Micromax, which accounts for about 5.5% of the 200 million mobile handsets sold annually in India, rejected the charges saying the Swedish company had failed to adhere to global commitments on providing its industry-essential patents to handset makers under so-called fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. They also point out that the litigation was not unique to Micromax as Ericsson had recently filed a similar suit against South Korea's Samsung for failure to license 'standards-essential' patents. Executives close to Micromax claimed that Ericsson, which is no longer a player in the handset space after it exited its JV with Japan's Sony, was now trying to extort what they termed "irrational and inequitable licence fees". If Ericsson's suit is upheld by the Delhi High Court, it will have a big impact. If the Delhi Hight Court upholds Ericsson's suit, it will have a major impact because it may significantly undermine the low-cost business strategy of several domestic handset and tablet companies. It may also mark the beginning of a spate of litigation that may impact the Indian telecom handset and tablet space in the near future. Ericsson is learnt to be mulling legal action against a few other local cellphone companies as well. Local players selling low-cost handsets include Lava, Spice, Karbonn and Intex Technologies. Despite exiting the handset space, Ericsson continues to be among the biggest patent-holders in the mobile phone industry along with Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung. "Ericsson has taken legal action against Micromax for refusing to sign necessary licences on FRAND terms. For more than three years, Ericsson has made numerous attempts to sign a licence agreement with Micromax for products compliant with the GSM, EDGE, and UMTS/WCDMA standards. Since this is a pending legal process, we do not have any further comments," the Ericsson spokesperson said. The Micromax spokesperson said the Indian company was committed to negotiate a FRAND agreement. "Micromax is committed to negotiating a FRAND licence with Ericsson as has Ericsson undertaken to providing a FRAND licence to Micromax. Since the matter is pending before the honourable court, it would be incorrect for Micromax to make any further statements on the matter." The disputed handsets and tablets of Micromax include select models from its popular Ninja series, Funbook Talk, and the Canvas 2 series. Executives close to Micromax said they would abide by the interim order and pointed out that the court had asked both parties to negotiate a FRAND licence agreement which would be valid till the next hearing. These executives said Micromax would deposit the interim payment with the court. Technology giants Apple and Samsung have fought a long-running war over alleged patent infringements in various parts of the world, as have Taiwanese company HTC and Finland's Nokia. However, there is a significant difference between the big-bang global patent wrangles and the Ericsson-Micromax case. While in global patent fights both protagonists are technology owners, in the Ericsson-Micromax case the Indian player is not technically the owner of technology.

  14. Are Lenovo CDMA phones available now?

AFAIK, none of the handsets mentioned in this topic is CDMA. Some websites/sales people misunderstand WCDMA mentioned in specs (which is a moniker for GSM 3G) as CDMA which is wrong and then the confusion starts.

  20. DoT refuses to extend licences of Vodafone, Airtel; asks telcos to participate in spectrum auctions Source NEW DELHI: In a major setback to Vodafone India, the telecom department has denied its request for extension of licences in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata that are coming up for renewal in late 2014. A top communications ministry official said a similar request from BhartiAirtel has been rejected as well. In a communication to Vodafone, accessed by ET, the telecom department (DoT) has said under the new policy on spectrum allocation, airwaves have been delinked from licence. Therefore, the firm must participate in the auctions to be held later this year to access airwaves at market price. "Unless you participate in auctions and get your bid confirmed, you would not be entitled to wireless licence, which is a requisite," DoT said. It added that Vodafone was given a chance to participate in auctions, concluded early this month, but it stayed away. "In the circumstances, we find no reason to grant you an extension contemplated by Clause 4.1. It is also not expedient to do so as there is no inclination shown by you to come to settle new terms and conditions in pursuance of and in conformities of the extant policies...Consequently, your request for an extension for 10 years on the same terms and conditions stands rejected," the DoT notice said. DoT's Refusal to Prolong Legal Battle The department went on to add that government held the sole right to allocate spectrum and that Vodafone cannot claim any right, "much less preemptive right" with regard to extension of its permits under Clause 4.1 of the licence. A Vodafone spokesperson said the company was 'deeply disappointed' with the rejection of its request. "Vodafone is deeply disappointed with the summary rejection of its request for extension of its licences in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata service areas by DoT. This decision is against the interests of our several million customers in these cities/circles. In addition, there appears to be no acknowledgment by DoT of the full and faithful operation of the licence (by Vodafone) for 18 years...Vodafone has also been consistently contributing several crores in revenues to the national exchequer. Clearly, in DoT's opinion, these aspects are not important for determining expe-diency," the spokesperson said. A senior telecom department official added that similar notices would go out to Bharti Airtel by Monday or early next week. DoT's decision will prolong the legal battle between telecom operators and the government and will in all likelihood cast a shadow on the government's plan to refarm, or redistribute, airwaves in the 900 Mhz band.

World’s Smallest Blood Monitoring Implant Tells Your Smartphone When You’re About To Have A Heart Attack Source A team of scientists at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland have developed the world’s smallest medical implant to monitor critical chemicals in the blood. The 14mm device measures up to five indicators, including proteins like troponin, that show if and when a heart attack has occurred. Using Bluetooth, the device can then transmit the data to a smartphone for tracking. The device can also track levels of glucose, lactate, and ATP, providing valuable data for physiologic monitoring during activity, or in possible disease conditions like diabetes. As far as tricorders go, this device may be the one you have been waiting for, provided you are on board for the implant. Outside the body, a battery patch provides the 100 milliwatts of power that the device requires by wireless inductive charging through the skin. Each sensor is coated with an enzyme that reacts with blood-borne chemicals to generate a detectable signal. For patient monitoring, a device like this would quickly become indispensable once introduced. In cancer treatment for example, exact dosing is critical. Numerous blood tests are often required to calibrate the treatment according the to the patient’s particular ability to break down and excrete the drug. Often these parameters change when the disease, or the therapy, directly affects the organs involved in these processes — typically this would mean the liver and the kidneys. Often in the hours before a heart attack, fatigued or oxygen-starved muscle begins to break down, and fragments of a heart-specific smooth muscle protein, the troponin mentioned above, are dumped into the blood. If this can be detected before disruption of the heart rhythm, or the actual attack, lifesaving preemptive treatment can be initiated sooner. To be fail-safe, this depends on the patient having access to their data. Dependence on the integrity of multiple weak links to the cloud, to the doctor, and back again — as is often the prescribed future care scenario — are unacceptable, particularly when heart attacks might be counted on to occur precisely at those times when those links may not be there. Assuming the battles for patient rights will be won sooner rather than later, the next important choice would be getting the proper ringtone when that fateful troponin call comes. A standard ringtone with universal appeal would let bystanders know what was going on and assistance could, at least in theory, be had. At the moment the device has a limited number of sensors, but there is no theoretical ceiling on this. Nor is there a limit to the kinds of enzymatic reactions or other detectors that could be used with those sensor channels. In the muscle breakdown scenario, for example, multiple products are in fact continuously generated in a tissue-specific manner which can give valuable information to athletes, and weekend enthusiasts alike. Ions and respiratory gases in the blood at different body locations can also be mapped. When coupled with powerful analysis packages, a device like this could help make the patient the customer once again. For now, the device is limited to the lifetime of the enzymes — typically after a month or two they can be considered expired. For all the patent trolls out there, this may be a good time to pen your imaginary device that includes provisions for rapid, and hopefully painless, deimplantation. 25. If one does not need something, don't buy it: however great the deal may be. As far as retracting the bid is concerned, many bidders do it. Best option for you is to contact the seller and request cancellation of the transaction. If the seller agrees, matter ends. If he does not, most he can do is to file a dispute with Ebay. Even in that case, Ebay won't be able to force you to buy. Generally Ebay does not suspend the account of the buyer if bid retraction has happenned only ocassionally or for limited number of times. In extreme case they do suspend.
