    Every Poor Family May Get A Mobile Source NEW DELHI: In what could turn out to be its calling card for the 2014 general elections, the government is finalizing a Rs 7,000 crore scheme to give one mobile phone to every family living below the poverty line. Sources in the PMO said the scheme—Har Hath Mein Phone—expected to be announced by PM Manmohan Singh on August 15, will not only aim to give away mobiles to around six million BPL households, but also provide 200 minutes of free local talk time. Top government managers involved in formulating the scheme want to sell it as a major empowerment initiative of the UPA 2. While the move will ensure contact with the beneficiaries of welfare programmes worth thousands of crores, there is also a view the scheme will provide an opportunity for the UPA to open a direct line of communication with a sizable population that plays an active role in polls. The scheme may be funded from the telecom department's universal service obligation (USO) funds. According to a source, 50% of the cost is likely to come from the bidder who gets the right to provide the service and the remaining from the USO fund. The fund is meant to be used to meet USO aims by providing access to phone services to people in rural and remote areas at affordable prices. The resources for its implementation are raised through a service levy fixed at 5% of the adjusted gross revenue of all telecom service providers except the pure value added service providers like internet, voice mail, email etc. According to estimates, the scheme will involve a monthly expenditure of Rs 100 per cellphone. The government is also exploring the possibility of getting service charges subsidized through competitive bidding. The PMO is directly involved with the Planning Commission and telecom ministry in giving a final shape to the scheme. The government has already launched a national infrastructure initiative under the PM's advisor Sam Pitroda that aims to link 2,50,000 panchayats across the country within 16 months through internet so that basic communication facilities can be provided to the rural masses.

    Now on MeanROM ICS (Based on Official ICS OTA). Flashed Chad Goodman's kernel separately. It's giving awesome battery life while sleeping. Just 1% drop in 14+ hours last night. Battery life is also awesome on some other functions. Downloaded 432 MB file on mobile EVDO. Battery % went off just from 56% to 47%. Not so awesome battery life in other functions like browsing, calls but it's OK. Guess will have to try & play with different CPU Governer.
  9. I am wondering why can't CDMA Workshop guys incorporate this function for iPhone? OR they're simply not interested / capable? Because 1 year workshop license costs approx US $ 100 whereas here single device flash costs US $ 65!

    I had used an unbended UPIN instead of wire. Felt is keeps hands more steady. BTW i really like the whacky messages which keeps on flashing in Juopunutbear's command window while the process is on.. "Entering Bar"... "One More Beer"... Yeah right... some consolation when the heart is in mouth knowing that essentially phone is getting bricked and alive again! I tried reverting to MeanROM Gingerbread after flashing Official ICS firmware/kernel but gives bootloops. I guess the new firmware/kernel in OTA ICS won't allow gingerbread to work properly. But some guy was able to revert to gingerbread nandroid backup successfully which he took earlier. S-OFF will still remain in new HBOOT 1.58. Flash official ICS firmware/radio/hboot from here in Step 1 >> http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1808150 Copy the PG86IMG.zip to root of SDCard and reboot to bootloader. It will flash. Don't forget to delete it once you boot in ROM else it will again start when you go to bootloader. Then flash MeanROM ICS 2.6 which is based on official ICS OTA >> http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1645211 Don't forget to flash Official ICS 2.89 Kernel which is in MeanROM-ICS folder after flashing the ROM as this ROM has old 2.17 kernel built in.

    Official OTA Ice Cream Sandwich Update for EVO 3D (Sprint Version) is out now. I strongly suggest not to install it for guys who have already achieved S-OFF. Because the update has new radio and new HBOOT 1.58. Don't know whether it will again allow S-OFF through wire trick / other methods. Hang on! Wait For Sometime! Solutions will be out! EDIT: Some users are now confirming that wiretrick for S-OFF is still working on new HBOOT. At your risk though! For those who are on Stock ROM's, S-ON and not bothered/will never be doing S-OFF, can go ahead.

    Where is the screenshot? Can't see any in the post! Factory reset does not re-install the ROM. Merely resets your account. I suggest you wipe/format everything through recovery and then install latest HTC Stock ROM through RUU to check whether the issue is with software/ROM.

    Nothing to get excited about. Joint venture is a big word to use for such things which are usually nothing more than glorified bots most of the time. We already had one such similar member account RCOMcare in the past. Since it used to post standard responses like THIS instead of actually solving any problems, Arun fired it/blocked their posts. I know of another forum where practically many service provider like vodafone, idea, videocon etc's customer service accounts are present. They just respond with the standard stuff like "share your number at blah.. blah.. places to resolve your concern". Members got so frustrated that vodafone's a/c was banned.

    AFAIK, PRL and NV items should have no role to play for better/worse EVDO Speed. Either it will work if they are right OR won't work at all if it's wrong. Modem and antenna will be different in Tab & S3 and may be superior in Tab giving better EVDO RSSI signal strength thereby resulting in better speeds. For checking signal strength, download CDMA Field Test Application from play store >> https://play.google....S5jZWxsaW5mIl0. And after connecting EVDO, see the results on both for EVDO RSSI and EVDO SNR from the same place. Removing Sprint/Verizon proxies if any should also result in better EVDO speed on S3.
  23. @joshm Mentioned about car charger few posts back... I am using the same and it's good. No idea about bluetooth. As far as safety of credit card usage on tradus.com is concerned, no one can ever guarantee complete safety for any site. Best of sites can and does get hacked worldwide. Having said that tradus is one of the larger e-commerce sites in india with lots of transactions. Now with second layer of safety mandatory in india for online payments where you need to enter your PIN on payment gateway, there are less chances of misuse in the event of card details getting leaked. Still if you're concerned, use virtual credit card OR cash on delivery.
