  1. Samsung Galaxy S III

^^^ When the individual component cost figures come out and totalled, manufacturing cost of S III most probably won't exceed US $ 200. iPhone 4S costs approx. US $ 188 to manufacture and apple does not manufacture anything, Samsung is biggest component supplier to apple. Assuming Samsung sells components at some profit to apple, the cost for own use has to be even lower.

  6. My Health Tips

Alongwith quantum of sleep, quality of sleep is equally important. Most of us in today's modern age also don't get the second part right. The thing is when we go to sleep, we don't De-Activate ourselves fully. (At the brain level). Till the last moment before going to sleep, we are doing some activity (browsing, other things) which keeps the brain fully engaged. There is no cooling off period. As the most powerful machine ever invented, brain is working at full throttle all the time till the last moment before we go to sleep. Like a Quad Core processor firing on all cores OR a nuclear missile which is fully armed OR a car parked with engine on. Obviously there is much wear and tear. I have in the past tried the concept of Yoga Nidra. There are various CD's available from different brands and people. The process takes about 20-25 minutes and dis engages the body and brain fully before one goes to sleep. The quality of sleep after this method is amazing and one notices perceptible difference. However could not continue it for want of time.

  8. Ummm.. That's not what i wanted to convey... Nothing related to courts interference in policy making as such... What i wanted to say was that when lawyers in the union cabinet who have little political base / wisdom are guiding / making policy decisions which are then automatically accepted as gospel truth by a supposedly brilliant economist prime minister who is no LEADER in any sense of the word OR is having any real authority as such and without a second thought.... That's the only end result one can expect. We have all pygmies disguised as titans!

  10. This is wholly unscientific but worked with fascinate when it suddenly went into airplane mode and will not come out of it no matter what... Pull the battery out, then micro SD Card, wait for 2-3 minutes, put micro SD, then battery and power on. If that does not work, then stock ROM can be ODINed.

  12. Govt. Plans To Ask All Existing Telcos To Pay Market Rate For Old 2G Spectrum Held By Them Source NEW DELHI: The government plans to ask all mobile phone companies to pay auction-discovered price for the 2G spectrum they hold for the remaining period of their licences, as it seeks to create a level playing field, said a top telecom ministry official. The move will send shockwaves among existing operators as back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest these companies will have to shell out several thousands of crores if the Cabinet approves the policy change proposed by the communications ministry. The DoT will present a note to the Cabinet on this issue next week, said the official. "Telecom companies that lost permits following the Supreme Court order must pay a minimum of Rs 3,622 crore for every unit of 2G airwaves in the upcoming auctions if the telecom regulator's pricing is accepted by the Empowered Group of Ministers. But the operators whose permits were not quashed have not been subject to any market-determined fee for the airwaves they currently hold. The method we are proposing will ensure all operators pay the same price for airwaves," the official added. This official further said incumbents such as Bharti, Vodafone and Idea, and dual-technology players such as Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices could pay the auction-determined price for the entire spectrum they have in the 1800 MHz band and extend the validity of their licences by 20 years. TRAI Told to Study Impact "But this is not applicable to the 2G spectrum held by incumbents in the 900 MHz band. Here, they have to pay the auction-determined price only for the remaining tenure of the licence. This band will be refarmed (redistributed to all companies through an auction process) when mobile permits come up for renewal beginning 2014," said the official. Incumbents such as Bharti, Vodafone and Idea hold 2G spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in more than half the country. In the remaining regions, these companies have airwaves in the 900 MHz band. All 2G airwaves held by Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices are in the 1800 MHz band. The DoT has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to study the impact this proposal will have on tariffs. This is part of the seven-point reference made by the department to TRAI on Tuesday. Last week, the Telecom Commission, the highest decision-making body of the communications ministry, failed to reach a verdict on the reserve price recommended by TRAI. The commission decided to ask the Empowered Group of Ministers on spectrum auction, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, to fix the reserve price. It also decided to ask TRAI do a cost analysis of the impact its spectrum-pricing proposals will have on customers, companies and the government's revenues, and present it to the panel of ministers so they can take a decision, Telecom Secretary R Chandrasekhar had told ET.

  17. Affordable Dual-Core Gsm Android Smartphones

Yes. One has to choose from whatever options currently available in the market. I was talking more as an expectation from masses for 13-15K budget. That too will happen in a few months time as has happenned with availability of low cost android handsets. That's the beauty of android ecosystem. More manufacturers, more models, more choice, continuously lowering prices.
  18. MTS HSD Activation Change SMS

^ ^ ^ In addition to that, another reason would be imported CDMA android smartphones available at upto 50% less cost then similar spec / model GSM counterparts.
  19. Affordable Dual-Core Gsm Android Smartphones

Good Topic. Nice work. BTW, how do we define affordable? According to me a decent spec dual core android between 13 - 15K should fit the definition.

  21. Letsbuy Shuts Down Store, Redirects To Flipkart

Flipkart's prices have become atrocious since few months. It is selling most high value items at MRP. You can get all those at few thousand less at other sites like buytheprice. Even books have become too costly on Flipkart and available at a much lesser price elsewhere online. As far as honesty and reliability is concerned, yes Flipkart branding is Reliable. But it's bit like Prime Minister Manmohan Singh analogy. The Guy also has an Honest branding but what we will do with that honesty if we have to pay a high price for it?

What Killed Ranjan Das, A Fitness Freak At 42 And Critical Importance of Good Sleep For Your Health Few months ago, many of us heard that Ranjan Das, CEO and MD of SAP Indian subcontinent died after a massive cardiac arrest. One of the youngest CEOs, he was just 42 year old. He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner. It was common to see him run on Bandra's Carter Road . Just after Diwali, on 21st Oct, he returned home from his gym after a workout, collapsed with a massive heart attack and died. It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India . However, it was even more disastrous for runners amongst us. Since Ranjan was an avid marathoner ( in Feb 09, he ran Chennai Marathon at the same time some of us were running Pondicherry Marathon 180 km away ), the question came as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumb to heart attack at 42 years of age. Was it the stress? While Ranjan had mentioned that he faced a lot of stress, that is a common element in most of our lives. We used to think that by being fit, one can conquer the bad effects of stress. The Real Reason However, everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to make do with 4-5 hours of sleep. This is an earlier interview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program. Well-known cardiologist on the subject of 'Heart Disease caused by Lack of Sleep' have distilled the key points below in the hope it will save some of our lives. Some Excerpts: Short sleep duration ( <5 or 5-6 hours ) increased risk for high BP by 350% to 500% compared to those who slept longer than 6 hours per night. Young people ( 25-49 years of age ) are twice as likely to get high BP if they sleep less. Individuals who slept less than 5 hours a night had a 3-fold increased risk of heart attacks. Complete and partial lack of sleep increased the blood concentrations of High sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-cRP), the strongest predictor of heart attacks. Even after getting adequate sleep later, the levels stayed high!! Just one night of sleep loss increases very toxic substances in body such as Interleukin-6 (IL! -6), Tumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha (TNF-alpha) and C-reactive protein (cRP). They increase risks of many medical conditions, including cancer, arthritis and heart disease. Sleeping for <=5 hours per night leads to 39% increase in heart disease. Sleeping for <=6 hours per night leads to 18% increase in heart disease. Ideal Sleep In brief, sleep is composed of two stages: REM ( Rapid Eye Movement ) and non-REM. The former helps in mental consolidation while the latter helps in physical repair and rebuilding. During the night, you alternate between REM and non-REM stages 4-5 times. The earlier part of sleep is mostly non-REM. During that period, your pituitary gland releases growth hormones that repair your body. The latter part of sleep is more and more REM type. For us to be mentally alert during the day, the latter part of sleep is more important. No wonder when you wake up with an alarm clock after 5-6 hours of sleep, you are mentally irritable throughout the day (lack of REM sleep). And if you have slept for less than 5 hours, your body is in a complete physical mess ( lack of non-REM sleep ), you are tired throughout the day, moving like a zombie and your immunity is way down. Finally, as long-distance runners, you need an hour of extra sleep to repair the running related damage. In conclusion: Barring stress control, Ranjan Das did everything right: eating proper food, exercising ( marathoning! ), maintaining proper weight. But he missed getting proper and adequate sleep, minimum 7 hours. In our opinion, that killed him. If you are not getting enough sleep ( 7 hours ), you are playing with fire, even if you have low stress. Unfortunately, Ranjan Das is not alone when it comes to missing sleep. Many of us are doing exactly the same, perhaps out of ignorance.
