Changing Palm Pixi from TATA Indicom to Reliance CDMA
deepakchan replied to deepakchan's topic in Other handsets
Hitesh is my seller and he has already replied here. -
I have bought Palm pixi plus for indicom (from the Buy/sell forum) more than a year ago even before MNP came in and was struggling to get data on for months together. Even after getting data working, there was no data based plan in Tamilnadu for indicom that I could use on the handset. Then while updating the software I almost bricked my pixi and changed to another handset for a while. And then when trying to change back to the pixi, indicom refused to accept the AKEy saying its already used or something like that. Finally I am fed up with indicom and decided to change to Reliance as they are very flexible with these things. Can I do it myself that is load the programming of Reliance to my Pixi and make it work or should I send it to one of the experts here and get it done? I have the palm sdk and drivers installed on my PC which were installed when I was trying to get data on indicom.

I am stuck at this point where you type "novacom -t open tty://" and type mpt d userserial at the -[J prompt. I have attached the screenshot of the error. I have set all the ports in usbpassthrough to none. If I put usb1=diag then even novacom command is not working. Where am I going wrong?

I find that tata indicom has only time-based plans for 1X. All their data based plans are only for their HSIA programmed handsets like Corby Speed, BB8530, BB9650. This is what the TATA ppl told me when I asked them for a 1X data plan. He gave me 4 options. Rs.125 pack - 500 mins, Rs.225 pack - 1000 mins, Rs.350 pack - 1500 mins, Pack 500 - 3000 mins. I don't understand how come they don't have a data based plan in this era of smartphones.

Sorry I shall stick to this thread from here on. Thanks Hitesh. I shall check this and also vijay's post of using mpt 0d and get back to the forum with the exact problem if any. In the first step of the 2nd portion of the procedure, opening up qpst, how do I do that? I am presented only with these after unzipping the qpst package. Also ananth001 has sent me a .qcn file from a working Tata pixi plus with data. I do not know where to use this too.

I think I am missing the pixi diag drivers. Cos when I am at the step mpt d userserial, my pixi isn't detected at all. Is it different from the pre diag drivers? I have downloaded a driver from here. Is it the right one?
-
Thanks Hitesh. Yes it works perfectly and novacom and hence my PC is again able to see my Pixi I am getting the same error that @Bablus is getting. Is the problem solved @Bablus? There is no update from you from then.

How to go to usb pass through mode to set all ports to None in 1.4.5 OS Verizon bypass ROM? ##USBPASS# does not work.

What are the detailed instructions for palm pixi plus to get data? This post is only for pre and contains pre_drivers. What to point to for palm pixi plus drivers? And what to do with the tata .qcn file? I hope that will be clear if somebody points me to the detailed procedure to get Data on palm pixi plus

Yes. I would be very grateful if you send it to me. I am using the Verizon Pixi Plus on Tata Indicom. After upgrading to 1.4.5, I've lost the data settings. I shall PM you my email id.
-
Why is it so expensive? An equivalent unlimited GPRS pack is only Rs.249 in GSM. Is CDMA this costly? That too for just 1X speed?
-
Any body got this working on TATA?
-
Thank you. I am downloading the 1.4.5 right away. I shall follow these instructions and get back if there is any trouble. @all, is there a 1X data plan on postpaid that I could use on TATA Indicom? These guys have plans only for HSIA that too only for HSIA configured mobiles like the Samsung Corby Speed. When I said I don't want HSIA, just give me the normal 153kbps 1X data plan, they are clueless. Nodal officer was of no help. After writing to the Appellate Authority they refunded the money charged at 45 paise per minute when I was connected on 1X for almost a week. Amounted to 3.2k plus taxes. They said they will suggest me a data plan so that I won't be charged per minute basis, but they are every week calling me and informing me that they are working on the issue. I don't know how long it will take for them to suggest me. I am still using only Wifi. Kindly if anyone is using TATA Indicom, let me know what data plan I can use on the palm pixi. <Update> I have updated to the 1.4.5 successfully. The OS seems slick now and the phone feels very fast. It automatically was trying to download Preware in the App Catalog but as I hadn't set up WiFi it failed. Then I set up WiFi, tried to configure email, it didn't work. Tried twice. Fail. Opened web browser, opened touch.facebook.com. Worked. Don't know why the mail app is not able to access the web when the browser is able to. One more thing is instead of Tata Indicom, it is showing Verizon Wireless. Now I shall try to add contacts by syncing to my gmail account. Hope that at least works. </Update> I am trying to install Preware using the techniques mentioned here. I am not able to use any of the three steps mentioned there. 1. When I click the Blue Down Arrow nothing happens. 2. When I double click the Preware standalone installer, nothing happens. 3. When I click linux commandline under webosquickinstall, nothing happens. I have the latest version of Java installed as well as novacomd. Don't know what else I need to do. What am I missing?
