    I am having the same problem. Even after installing the PL2303 program the cable is recognized only as a USB DATA Cable - not as a USB-Serial cable. So the next steps of installing the dialer applications fail. I dont know if it is the problem with the software (tried different versions of the PL2303 installer) or a problem with the win XP installation.
